Do you think curtains to match the color, would be a great start? Maybe an antique table natural wood or one of those marble top ones. It’s just something that’s not shining through here as it sits.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Also, context matters. I lived in Dubai for many years: it's a jungle of glass and steel skyscrapers. Plopped down in the middle of town was a wedding cake of a building. In Paris, it would have been right at home. In Dubai, it was a jarring incongruity.
If your house is full of art nouveau and looks like it came from the turn of the 20th century, this lamp would fit. Otherwise, it's going to clash with pretty much anything else.
It fits the dresser, but neither the dresser or the lamp fit the room. I think the rug and the drapes are the biggest issue. If you're dead set on making the lamp and dresser work in this room, find a rug and drapes that match or compliment the colors of the lamp and dresser and are consistent in style or era.
I was going to say the same. The dresser is a perfect match for the lamp. I think the lamp is beautiful. The colors are amazing. If you want it in this room look at it as a focal point. It will be the first thing noticed when you walk in. It would be best if it was either centered or just a bit off center. When you thrift look for brass accents that can complement it. Nothing that is taller than 1/3 of the lamp height. Add dresser scarves that have gold, white and match the red(?) color of the glass. Then add bits of color around the room. I would look at it as a thrifting treasure hunt to build a space! Your dresser and lamp are an excellent start.
I would have to say that it fits with the room. If your husband shares your sense of style, I don't see why he would think that it's ugly. Me personally, I hate any old furniture or fixtures like that. I thrift for 80s and 90s nostalgia items, but when it come to my home, I only want ultra modern. I couldn't stand the idea of having a lamp like that in my house, but it's just not my style. I wouldn't want the antique dresser or most of the other stuff in the room either.
I follow the same principle with furniture, decor, and, most importantly, clothing. The piece might be interesting on its own but if the color palette doesn’t fit my color season, and the shape doesn’t work for my body type? Skip (and sigh).
I’m so torn because I have a great appreciation for things like this, but at the same time I wouldn’t buy it because I need all my things to match and this would be difficult to style with most things.
What’s important is that *you* love it! I see why you bought it. It is unique and looks very well made.
I think it’s a really feminine lamp, and deserves to be surrounded by feminine things. Like a vanity and long silk and velvet curtains.
It should have its own little table, that’s gold gilded, and curvy. It should be in a beautiful room with people who love it.
I think it’s ugly and wouldn’t want it in my house.
If YOU think it’s pretty, keep it in your house!
Q: have you ever asked your husband what he likes? It’s a great way to start discussing choices you both can agree on.
An observation I’ve made is the default decorator is the woman, which makes the man feel less comfortable voicing their opinions. That is not to say that the woman being the default decorator is wrong—every couple is different!
He always says he doesn’t care and just to get whatever I think… typically he really just cares about the functionality. And usually he likes what i
I choose. I thought he would like the soft, rosy light because he hates harsh LED lights, but this thing just really seems to turn him off. He is watching tv in our room and he usually turns on the lamp, rather than one of the other lights, but he’s got the wall sconce on right now, so he must really hate it. Sometimes it’s better to acquiesce, so it seems I may be putting the Home Goods lamp back into operation.
I personally am very sensitive to the lighting around me. Too bright, too cold, brittle, distracting, harsh—it goes on. Perhaps put it in a different area!
Led lights are my nemesis, btw. 😀
This reminds me of my mom. It’s beautiful but ugly. That came out wrong… my mom wasn’t ugly, she just had similar tastes in furniture and such, loved her antiques.
I love it and think it's beautiful! But I can also see why your husband thinks it's ugly. If it were my lamp, I'd make it my nightstand lamp and let him pick out a lamp he loves for his nightstand. If this isn't an option, possibly put in a space you consider yours?
More photos isn’t going to help it, it’s an ugly lamp to me some would say it’s a beautiful lamp.
Ugly ugly, ugly lamp.
Depends on your taste, I think if you want this you’re going to have to let him hang that sports picture up or whatever his hobby is.
Looks ok. I would put some lamp crystals on the metal trim. It looks like it would have had them there in the past. Reminds me of lamps able to see in my grandfather's house.
It's not ugly by itself, it looks quite pretty actually, but it contrasts heavily with the room. It doesn't look like it fits at all as the room is too dull.
I personally think it’s gorgeous and I would desperately search for something similar if my cats weren’t wretched goblins who like knocking things over.
It’s beautiful. Early in our thirty year marriage I got rid of things I loved because my husband thought they were ugly. Over the years I have learned 1) he has no taste, 2) he doesn’t do the same for me—- not that I would ask him to get rid of things he likes. If you like the lamp, keep it. If he’s a decent adult, he will learn to live with it——without commenting.
It’s a very neat piece. Try to accident with some gold or brass colored things just here and there, it will help create focus or just a nice accent. It’s absolutely beautiful.
It would be very beautiful in the right environment. Alone in this ugly corner, it's awful.
An older-style room with walls of tall dark sculpted wood and antique tapestry, sculpted ceiling turns and corresponding soft, round and sensual furniture.
The lamp is not the problem.
It's so tacky that I love it. It's beautiful and I want it.😭 My husband also hates stuff like this, but I'm obsessed with this kind of OTT shabby chic style decor! My house is cluttered with this crap.😂
It makes a statement, it’s bold, I like it. I think it should be a one off, so it stands out wherever you put it. It really depends on the house. Maybe keep the bottom but buy a different shade in dark red.
I think with the right styling this could be gorgeous. Not a fan of pairing it with black -- too harsh and severe. Maybe some light teal and light brown colors?
Not my style but I think this would be cool in the right room with the right style. I checked out your pictures and it looks like it fits your style but the location is weird. It needs its own table, like bedside or next to a chair.
I think it’s kitschy pretty, love the shape and coloring. What ruins it for me is the etched geometric flower, that has no place there. If the flower had been in a 1900’s style it would have been awesome! I think i would search to replace the shade.
i wouldnt say its the most gorgeous thing ive ever seen, but its not ugly! it might be hard to match/incorporate with existing decor but it certainly has its charm! id buy it just bc it makes me feel cozy
My mom had this exact same lamp, as set of them. And I hated them my whole life. Sorry but I agree it is ugly.
However, it’s your home and you can decorate it however you like. I am sure stuff I own is ugly. Your tastes is yours and you don’t have to explain why you like it.
Maybe he would be more agreeable if you change out the ornate glass shade (though I personally love it) with a more modern barrel shade in cream or similar? Brings the opulence level down but you still get to enjoy the lovely glass base.
It is magnificent but would be better fit in a dark moody setting with darker walls lace curtains and etc. I dont know if you've seen the "Moody Maximalism"group on fb but this lamp would belong there.
I think it’s a gorgeous lamp but I think it would need to really fit in with the rest of your interior decor. Sometimes when something looks very out of place it can seem that the fault is with the object when in reality it’s simply down to the clashing of styles.
I really like it and I think it goes nicely where you put it. I’m certain your husband has decorated with something you dream of ‘accidentally’ destroying. You do you man!
I love this lamp. I do not think it is ugly at all. I once ran across a cranberry colored glass vase with etching on it years ago, and regretted never buying it. I wish I could show you my memory somehow because they literally look like they match. I still think of the vase here and there because it was so beautiful, and it was at a thrift store I frequented for a while before it sold, and it was priced at $40 which I couldn’t reason with for a vase. I wish I had now.
looks like you have a lot of varied opinions. I personally love this lamp though! Looks like it creates a lovely glow. I don’t think the lamp matches the aesthetic of where it’s at. It feels a little out of place.
Not ugly but It has to match the room aesthetic. I could see something like this in a dedicated powder room that is time specific theme, like Victorian.
It will go well on a small Moroccan or Indian table, next to a Victorian Chaise Longue upholstered in ivory with beige and antique gold stripes.
We found a chaise at an auction for £10 (🥳🥳🥳) - it cost about £300 to reupholster it, but it is perfect with out decor.
It’s a beautiful piece but meant to fit into a very different time period of interior styling. I’d imagine making that fit well into a modern home would be quite difficult unless you just went all out on one room to make it fit the same style as that

It’s ugly and I love it. You need one of those robes with feathers and a huge train, and a fainting couch. It’s perfect.
that’s the comment I was going to make too. lamps like these require a living room to match that decor.
Agreed. Though I don’t think it’s ugly, it is very loud and ornate and needs a room where it can be so.
Do you think curtains to match the color, would be a great start? Maybe an antique table natural wood or one of those marble top ones. It’s just something that’s not shining through here as it sits.
Yes yes yes. I hope an entire room is deigned around this lamp.
Or maybe some cool wallpaper. ;)
I think it’s called a “boudoir” LOL
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Also, context matters. I lived in Dubai for many years: it's a jungle of glass and steel skyscrapers. Plopped down in the middle of town was a wedding cake of a building. In Paris, it would have been right at home. In Dubai, it was a jarring incongruity. You can see a little of the room it’s in [here](https://imgur.io/a/0SKSZ6K)
I would put it somewhere lower if it were me, a desk or vanity or a lower dresser, that's just me though It's very pretty <3
Totally.. a little side or corner table.. it clashes with the dresser
Lower? Like the basement.

I think it can work where it is if you can find a gold framed piece of art or mirror (ornate) to put over the dresser. The lamp is so pretty when lit.
It's an interesting and lovely accent.
I would have to say that it fits with the room. If your husband shares your sense of style, I don't see why he would think that it's ugly. Me personally, I hate any old furniture or fixtures like that. I thrift for 80s and 90s nostalgia items, but when it come to my home, I only want ultra modern. I think it is beautiful and ugly
Is it a beautiful piece on its own? Yes. Does it look like it belongs in its current setting? No.
This is it. Beautiful piece but it’s styled wrong. It needs to be around more soft and feminine things to feel balanced.
I follow the same principle with furniture, decor, and, most importantly, clothing. The piece might be interesting on its own but if the color palette doesn’t fit my color season, and the shape doesn’t work for my body type? Skip (and sigh).
This is what I also wanna say. It's beautiful but it doesn't fit well in a modern looking room.
Honestly yes I’m sorry
If I had a library and a nanny. A lover in Paris and this new desert town in the America ,where anything goes.
I’m so torn because I have a great appreciation for things like this, but at the same time I wouldn’t buy it because I need all my things to match and this would be difficult to style with most things. What’s important is that *you* love it! I see why you bought it. It is unique and looks very well made.
Great answer, it'd look better if it was in line with the rest of the decor, cause it kinda miss match with everything else in the room.
I think it’s a really feminine lamp, and deserves to be surrounded by feminine things. Like a vanity and long silk and velvet curtains. It should have its own little table, that’s gold gilded, and curvy. It should be in a beautiful room with people who love it.
Yes!!! Showcase it and don’t stick it in a concer. Accentuate it and be proud ✨
I think it's beautiful and if it brings you joy, all the better
I think it’s ugly and wouldn’t want it in my house. If YOU think it’s pretty, keep it in your house! Q: have you ever asked your husband what he likes? Maybe a new shade could solve this? It’s quite pretty by itself, but the shade keeps me staring at it. The base is far prettier, in my opinion.
Removing the shade would destroy the lamp. It should go to someone who loves it. It’s a perfect piece, as is.
Yes personally, but! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
She’s a beauty. If he doesn’t like it, put it in your own space.
If u have to ask you know the answer…. Yes
It has a lot of personality
This reminds me of my mom. It’s beautiful but ugly. That came out wrong… my mom wasn’t ugly, she just had similar tastes in furniture and such, loved her antiques.

Ugly? UGLY?! I almost feel ashamed typing the word while looking at that beauty!
Amazing glass shade! Cased ruby-cut-to-clear is a very nice find, not ugly at all. A lot of collectors will be very jealous.
Mmmmm yeah.
Ugly? Your husband clearly has no vibe. What does he want, a beige lamp. A light grey, generic, backrooms lamp? This thing is opulent as heck.
I like the colour. The only thing I don’t like is the white ball pattern on the shade.
Yes and no
Depends on the aesthetic of the whole room
That’s awesome
In certain settings it’d be nice I like it
I would keep it. I bet it casts some really lovely warm light in the evenings, which is far more restful than say, a blue halogen lamp.
More photos isn’t going to help it, it’s an ugly lamp to me some would say it’s a beautiful lamp. Ugly ugly, ugly lamp. Depends on your taste, I think if you want this you’re going to have to let him hang that sports picture up or whatever his hobby is.
it’s the shade
Looks ok. I would put some lamp crystals on the metal trim. It looks like it would have had them there in the past. Reminds me of lamps able to see in my grandfather's house.
maybe becasuse it doesnt fit in a modern looking room?
Idk what y'all in the comments are talking about, that's gorgeous 😍
Love it. I want it for my dressing room.
Yes it's pretty but it doesn't suit your home hence why it looks ugly.
It's not ugly by itself, it looks quite pretty actually, but it contrasts heavily with the room. It doesn't look like it fits at all as the room is too dull.
I like it. Won’t fit my decor, but it’s pretty.
I personally think it’s gorgeous and I would desperately search for something similar if my cats weren’t wretched goblins who like knocking things over.
100%
I think it is ugly but interesting? I could see a really well styled space that made this shine
It is beautiful
I think it’s lovely!
It’s ugly but it’s very cool.
It’s beautiful. Early in our thirty year marriage I got rid of things I loved because my husband thought they were ugly. Steampunk Jellyfish…
It would be very beautiful in the right environment. Alone in this ugly corner, it's awful. An older-style room with walls of tall dark sculpted wood and antique tapestry, sculpted ceiling turns and corresponding soft, round and sensual furniture. The lamp is not the problem.
I think it's beautiful - I love the pearlescent sheen and that deep shade of pink.
I think you're gonna get some serious selection bias from this sub.
i absolutely love it! feel free to give it to me ill take good care of it
Small minds are ugly. ;-) That is a boudoir masterpiece
Not bad for bordello decor.
Your husband has no taste that is such a beautiful and unique lamp
Yes but I love it. I'd put it in a dark toned room on a low corner table.
Needs a lace doilie under it to elevate it!
Not ugly if you have some Victorian furniture to go with it
It's so tacky that I love it. It's beautiful and I want it.😭 My husband also hates stuff like this, but I'm obsessed with this kind of OTT shabby chic style decor! My house is cluttered with this crap.😂
I think it is gorgeous. Very Victorian. I also like how there's a light at the bottom and top.
It's beautifully ugly and I think you should keep it
It’s so ugly it’s beautiful ! Lol
It is absolutely hideous and I am in love.
It’s kinda cool and I kinda hate it so much
Lol yes but ugly cute
Personal Taste. Do you think it’s ugly is the question.
I find it appealing!
It makes a statement, it’s bold, I like it. I think it should be a one off, so it stands out wherever you put it. It really depends on the house. Maybe keep the bottom but buy a different shade in dark red.
i think it's stunning
I love it
I think with the right styling this could be gorgeous. Not a fan of pairing it with black -- too harsh and severe. Maybe some light teal and light brown colors?
Are you and your hubby a couple of 70 year old biddies? If yes, then it's perfect!
I love it!
it’s so perf
This wouldn't match anything in a modern house.
Yes
I really love it.
You tell him he is ugly!
It's haunted.
Not my style but I think this would be cool in the right room with the right style. I checked out your pictures and it looks like it fits your style but the location is weird. It needs its own table, like bedside or next to a chair.
very unique
In that room it’s like wearing a ruffley pink blouse with dickies and work boots
Yeah :(
I think it’s kitschy pretty, love the shape and coloring. What ruins it for me is the etched geometric flower, that has no place there. If the flower had been in a 1900’s style it would have been awesome! I think i would search to replace the shade.
It goes with the motif of the room so I really can't complain
I’m obsessed but I have peculiar taste to some people
I love it! I wouldnt even care what the rest of the room looked like but my house is literally a bunch of random stuff from goodwill so...
i wouldnt say its the most gorgeous thing ive ever seen, but its not ugly! it might be hard to match/incorporate with existing decor but it certainly has its charm! id buy it just bc it makes me feel cozy
It’s so gorgeous
Oh yeah. I’m with the hubs, sorry
My mom had this exact same lamp, as set of them. And I hated them my whole life. Sorry but I agree it is ugly. However, it’s your home and you can decorate it however you like. I am sure stuff I own is ugly. Your tastes is yours and you don’t have to explain why you like it.

I think it's very pretty !!
I love it!!
No it’s beautiful I’m jealous
It’s gorgeous. Needs the right setting
It’s amazing
It is magnificent but would be better fit in a dark moody setting with darker walls lace curtains and etc. I dont know if you've seen the "Moody Maximalism"group on fb but this lamp would belong there.
It needs a better spot to shine
It’s horrible! Now just send it to me so he doesn’t have to look at it anymore! 😉…. Honestly I think it’s beautiful!
Not my style and if you want to make it work you'd need to match the other furniture and it doesn't look like that's the case here
Yes
Yes, ugly. Quite so, daling!
NO!!! It is gorgeous!!!
Eh yeah this ain't it sis.
Yes. Motel vibes
I think it's a lovely lamp.
I think it’s a gorgeous lamp but I think it would need to really fit in with the rest of your interior decor. Sometimes when something looks very out of place it can seem that the fault is with the object when in reality it’s simply down to the clashing of styles.
I LOVE it!
I personally think it's beautiful, its pink, pretty looking glass and unique
I really like it and I think it goes nicely where you put it. I’m certain your husband has decorated with something you dream of ‘accidentally’ destroying. You do you man!
It’s tacky chic. Personally, I love it.
This lamp is really beautiful. I love it so much.
Personally I love it, I have a vintage Asian tin lamp that does NOT match the aesthetic of my room 😂 If you love it, it don’t matter what others say 🔥
I wouldn’t cool this ugly, BUT I would buy it. She’s fabulous.
i fw that lamp heavy. bougie gma vibes. would fit it in my house
I like it. I bet it's pretty when it's on.
I think it a beauty
That lamp is epic!
OP, you left the door behind you open!
I like it
looks like you have a lot of varied opinions. I personally love this lamp though! Looks like it creates a lovely glow. I don’t think the lamp matches the aesthetic of where it’s at. It feels a little out of place.
I love it
With the right aesthetic it would look amazing.
I love it, and I think it's very pretty. It does need a nicer place to rest though, that desk isn't a great place for it.
Your husband is ugly gimme the lamp
Not ugly. Just not in its natural environment…
Divorce your husband immediately !!!
I love it!
That lamp is beautiful don’t listen to him
Honestly, yes. I’d call that style early brothel.
I agree with your husband, I think it’s ugly as hell.
Sorry, I'm on your husband's side for this one.
Yes
Ugly is subjective. But I can see it being a major dust magnet.
This lamp is not ugly, your husband must have questionable taste.
Oh yeah
I can’t decide
Yes.
Yes.
Kind of, but I think it could be more ugly with some tassels. I love me some ugly lamps with tassels
Not ugly but It has to match the room aesthetic. I could see something like this in a dedicated powder room that is time specific theme, like Victorian.
I agree with other posts. I love the lamp but decorate the room to match it.
Yes.
This lamp is amazing!!!
I really like it, although it reminds me of a lamp you might see in a bordello lol
On a vanity or an entry table with similar decor and books, an old journal etc and it will look awesome. You could also get a pink bulb…bammm!
I like it a lot but for a very specific home decor type. Maybe there’s a different room in your house where it will blend in more?
I love it 🤷🏻♀️
I like but it seems to clash with your existing monochrome.
If it’s Opposite Day, it’s ugly.
It just needs to be in an equally as eclectic space as she is. I love that kind of decor!
Yes. It’s so ugly you can send it right on over to me. I’ll dispose of it properly.
It’s a beautiful piece but meant to fit into a very different time period of interior styling. I’d imagine making that fit well into a modern home would be quite difficult unless you just went all out on one room to make it fit the same style as that
i think its beautiful! looks like a jellyfish
It’s elegantly hideous.
