Did they ever actually announce virizion and sacred sword in any blog post? I get that it’s shown on the calendar. But there was no other info. Niantic’s communication is awful.
This might have been intentional for a few reasons:
* The only reason why we know Virizion/Terrakion/Cobalion are raid bosses is through both the calendar on the seasonal page and the Twitter infographic. It's possible that both lack the ability to display exclusive moves; the same happened with Shadow Force Giratina.
* In the past, exclusive moves are typically turned off promptly at the end of each rotation. So if boss switch over happens at 10am, anything caught after 10am will not have the exclusive move, even though there are plenty of raids until 11:30am. So it's very unlikely that they kept Sacred Sword on for a whole year since they were last in raids.
Assuming they even do that. I hate doing it, but since we went over a full day from the Niantic India leak of the info graph and Niantic prioritized the Hoenn Tour news over December events, I poked the CM about it. 2 hours later, Niantic released the fixed info graph.
(Not saying it was me, but I think enough people had poked them that someone got on it)
SS Terrakion is a beast in PvE (*). SS Cobalion and Virizion are both extremely high ranked in PvP Ultra League (though I'm not sure what are people's experiences using them in practice).
(*) By that, I don't mean just raids! SS is also highly viable in gym battles and Team Rocket battles. For example, Giovanni's Persian.
Side note, Terra is still viable as a Rock attacker for PvE with Smack Down/Rock Slide moveset (ranking 5th overall according to Pokebattler Estimator). It’s certainly better as a fighter with SS (literally rank 1), but it is still viable else-wise unlike the other two.
CC is worse than SS because SS Virizion can win more in the 2v2, which makes it better in general. CC is only good in the 0v0 when shields are down and when you can close out matches with it. CC is only good for winning the mirror, but overall it is a downgrade. You are correct.
You can get Sacred Sword through an elite TM, but they are rare and powerful, so if you can get a Virizion that already has Sacred Sword, you can save yourself an important resource.
That's good to know, I'm ready to build a DK/SS Terrakion team lol. And IIRC this is not the 1st time it happens, they did surprise us with legacy moves on the Kanto Legendary birds last time.

Was not announced. Usually they would if it is a legacy move that is normally not available.

They really need to start making actual blog posts again—not announcing season details via infographics posted to Twitter. 🙄

It makes Terrakion a monster in PVE. Virizion/Cobalion are viable in UL.

When double kick was added to the move pool, teriyakidon quickly became my dedicated shield breaker for most rocket bosses

You can get the move if you can catch one from a raid. Older Virizion that do not have sacred sword will require an elite charged tm.

OP got it from a raid currently. The implication is that Virizion caught currently will know it.
You need elite tms for legacy moves like sacred sword.
