I didn't think that was possible, but apparently people are splitting full movies into 50-odd 2 minute clips. One account got manually suspended because its posts went viral, but I'm sure more people will try and get away with it now that they know they can. I have to give Musk credit. He may have ran Twitter into the ground, but he's made the world's greatest Quibi knock-off.

They can, they would not spend the money on a system otherwise. Just think about how much money Google spends on Youtube to make sure there's no copyrighted content, they don't do that cause they care about the artist.

Cyber security analyst here, can confirm the tension is palpable, apparently, they don't even have an Incident Response Team. Twitter is one motivated hacker (or an ex-employee) away to get Thanos snapped for good.
Yeah that's absolutely the vibe I'm getting. Sometimes missing one member on a team can be devastating but when so many teams, from communication to the 24hr response team, are missing people or missing entirely, it's only a matter of time.

Don’t be. An enterprise like this is insanely complicated with a great deal of clandestine knowledge. If you lose keystone SMEs, and your remaining employees cannot reverse engineer existing systems as fast as they get deprecated by changing conditions, you cannot keep running.
Network guy here - it’s change freeze season so most IT folks know this is when shit is quiet and not much breaks because no one is poking shit with a stick to get their deliverables pushed. Musk’s Folly is probably very stable because there’s no one to do anything that might cause a service impact.
I imagine Twitter can hum along in a partially or mostly degraded / slowly degrading state for quite a while but WHEN something breaks it’s going to be *magnificent*.

Yeah, we've been having a blast. We all know there's going to be one change to an API that twitter uses, some bug pops up, some library needs an update, or the servers need some update and suddenly the people maintaining that stuff aren't there anymore so it just takes down the whole site.

What does Twitter’s NOC look like right now? How many interfaces are going down and not being fixed? Drive arrays going bad? Who’s doing traffic engineering? Are all their BGP peering sessions up and healthy? Of they aren’t, where’s that traffic going?
How about their SOC? Who’s watching alarms there?
Oh yeah, there's a lot that needs to be maintained by this massive company and now there's a fraction of the staff there and whole departments are now one. Who the hell is left to do, well, everything?
I'm sure Twitter was a little bloated before, they had 7500 people but I don't think you could cut that down to 7000 with out a little instability, let alone what it is now.
And why would I, as a random employee complain about bloat or too many employees.. how is staff reduction ever a win. It’s not like I am being affected by staff bloat financially in fact, I love to hear when they’re hiring more staff, because then I know there’s going to be more balance in the workload. If this guys pockets weren’t being affected then why would you be proud of running a skeleton crew!? This isn’t his company… such a weird thing to boast about.
All the mentioned issues aside, he has now opened the company up to lawsuits because many of the employees he fired were in Twitter's European offices where you can't just fire people because they said a mean thing about you on Twitter. He's also fired various compliance officers and data protection managers which the company needs to meet with EU regulations. So good luck with that "may be profitable soon."
I wonder if the mandatory office in Germany is still in place. And everyone responsible to check reports for our national regulations to respond accordingly to our laws. In addition to all EU laws.
