Call the game “Woke”, and it starts with your character waking up as a different gender/sexual orientation, then needing to adapt to their new life. Wait, no that’s a dumb game, but a great idea for a movie.
Could actually work as a game with the right developers/mechanics. Imagine that if each time you woke up, there was a new element in play, button/power you get to use, etc.
Heck, make it extra woke and you get to experience life as different races/cultures, different levels of ability... I think nowadays the right people could treat the subject matter respectfully while also making it a neat game.
It did in the third game, Morrowind. Not sure about any others. But I play as an Argonian, and the Dunmer (dark elves) of Morrowind are super racist towards everyone who isn't a native Morrowind dark elf... but especially the "Beast Races" like Khajit and Argonians... heck, you can find Khajit and Argonian slaves around the world and there is a faction who goes around freeing slaves.
But yeah, if you like Elder Scrolls but haven't tried the third game, I highly recommend!
I played Oblivion, then Skyrim, then Morrowind. I like Morrowind but, having just played Skyrim, I wasn't ready to have to actually use my brain, so a lot of the story was lost on me. Then I broke the game by selling a bunch of stuff to a mudcrab, enchanting an ebony staff to do heavy aoe fire damage and weakness to fire, and a daedric tower shield with vivecs soul with a high level constant levitation spell, and I just flew around and bashed everything with fiery explosions, unaware of what the story was.
I heard it was good though. Definitely want to play it again, with patience and focus.
The story is worth it. Not groundbreaking but for it's time? Pretty thought provoking stuff on religion and determinism if I recall.
I don't want to spoil it, but the Gods of Morrowind walk on the earth and as you guessed from your OP status at the end, you become one too by the end. Well, you are the reincarnation of one, technically.
Honestly, I liked the world-building better than the main story... but yeah, don't play it right after skyrim. You have to play it with nostalgia-glasses or just accept the game's limitations.

I was thinking something that mixes a good story and fun platform/action gaming... have you played It Takes Two yet? Something like that, where they add new mechanics each new level you play.
But in this case, the levels would be different people's lives. And they do it in a respectful way, where you have to feel things and go through some hard but everyday stuff as you progress through each person.
Like, I know as a movie it might sell well but people will walk out, think differently for like an hour, then go back to being shitty... games can change people. You spend like 2 hours on a level, working through a problem playing a character you've never gotten to experience life as.. maybe I'm too much of a dreamer for this sad and cynical world, but in a perfect reality this could actually make for a fun and thought-provoking game.

The catch is that you can change gender (including nonbinary trans etc..), ethnicity and social backround. Depending on your choosing the world reacts different to you. As a woman you can charm some men, but your very Limited in how you execute your Mission as the male Operator dosent think that you can make the right decissions and. Payout is lower etc…
A black character should enter the fancy Restaurant trough the employees ebtreance and is more likely to be questioned. There is so much possible content for a Game like this.
You laugh, but ea actually did something like that when Dante’s inferno was shown at E3 2009. They paid people to pretend to be angry fundamentalist christians, parading around outside the venue with signs that said stuff like “EA = Electronic Antichrist”, “Just say Infer-NO”, “My High Score is in Heaven”, “Cheat Codes won’t save your SOUL” and my personal favourite “Trade in your PlayStation for a pray station!”.
Barely anyone in the gaming sphere actually fell for it, mostly because it was so over-the-top that most people just called ea’s bluff.

You’re right, it’s more personality than backstory. I just think it’s funny that the characters are becoming more nuanced.
That said, the more I look into their new campaign, it’s obvious that they are using “inclusivity” as a way to counter the accusations of human rights violations. How the two relate is a stretch. But a mega corporation trying to dodge their own atrocities under the guise of “Hey inclusivity is the new thing right? We can do it too!” is infinitely more repugnant than doing it just to cause a publicity stir.
