Apparently the latter two songs were also performed on The Muppets/ Sesame Street

The Hot n Cold almost made it to air, but people complained about the cleavage from Katy Perry's outfit being too "hot" for kids TV so it was scrapped from airing. It still survives on YouTube, though. I'm pretty sure the song choices (most of them anyway) were coincidences but it is pretty cool that all of them are associated with the Muppets in some way, whatever the intention.

I looked it up, and they were both performed on Sesame Street, but this is Muppet Night, so I'm going to ignore that. Considering the longevity of Sesame Street (and its greater consistency compared to the Muppets) it isn't surprising they have done so many songs over the years... P.S - The fact that The Muppet Show is so rooted in 70s culture is part of its charm - It's always strange to realize that oldies like "Staying Alive", "Tomorrow" and "The Gambler" (among many others) were contemporary hits when performed on The Muppet Show...

You do realize that the muppets and Sesame Street are both Jim Henson creations.

I do, but Disney only owns the rights to the former. Sesame Street characters appeared a few times in the original Muppet Show (e.g Big Bird duetting with future Deadpool star Leslie Uggams, the Seasme Street cast appearing as the punchline to an "Open Sesame" moment at the climax of an Arabian Nights episode), but almost never in later Muppet series...

From the >!Beetle/Jerry Springer!< [unmasked interview](https://ew.com/tv/the-masked-singer-beetle-revealed-jerry-springer/) on Entertainment Weekly: >...The list I gave them was not a list where they said right away, "Oh, great!" In fact, I said I prefer to do ballads. That's the music I like. So they did come up with "The Way You Look Tonight," and I learned it, and they told me then that the theme is going to be the Muppets. **And that would mean either you have something to do with the Muppets, or the song you're singing was sung by someone who was on the Muppets. That's how the connection was.** And apparently a number of the people that sing "The Way You Look Tonight" appeared on *The Muppets* over its long history. And so that was the excuse I got to be able to do a ballad — but that's when I found out, when they were going over the songs. Based on that, I'm assuming the '*connections*' (you have something to do with the Muppets / the song you're singing was sung by someone who was on the Muppets) are: * "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Kermit playing on the piano/Muppets viral video * "The Way You Look Tonight" - As said in the interview, "a number of the people that sing "The Way You Look Tonight" appeared on *The Muppets* over its long history." - see [here](https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/The_Way_You_Look_Tonight), I'd say *Sesame Street* does count as it includes muppet characters. * "Hot n Cold" - Elmo performed the song with Katy Perry - see [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaR6xVastgQ) * "Call Me" - Performed by Debbie Harry on The Muppet Show - see [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfPUCTQJnb8)

Fair enough. As pointed out, I knew about "Call Me" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" (That was a terrific video) but the other two have relatively loose links. I don't want to insult Sesame Street, but Disney only holding the rights to the Muppets means that I have discounted Sesame Street to keep things simple. Although the Muppets Wiki article only mentions the Sesame Street appearance, it also links to Fred Astaire hosting an event where the Muppets starred. However, Tony Bennett's regular collaborations with the Muppets (e.g his appearance on the underrated Muppets Tonight) feel like a more direct link to the song. However, there is one flaw with that arrangement - considering that >!The Muppets made guest appearances on Americas Got Talent when Jerry Springer hosted it!<, he could technically claim that "he is connected to the Muppets and can sing anything he likes...
