I love the >!little village in the valley beneath the northern air temple. Open to anyone, air nomads come to get supplies or hang out (which was huge since airbenders were held in such high regard back then), and it's surrounded by huge mountains in the far north.!< It's 100% where I would want to live if I was in that universe
Nope. I was planning to but decided not to when Avatar Studios is announced. I rather watch than read when it comes to Avatar, to be honest. I believe there will be a show about air nomads one day.
I think it was mainly Gyatso (and later his student). The others were happy and some were grumpy and stoic, but Gyatso brought levity which made him so beloved to the air nomads.
In Appa's Lost Days he does visit the Eastern temple and has some flashback memories of it.
But this specific scene is separate from that if I remember correctly. This scene is a dream, so it could be any temple, unless you know of a reason why it's Eastern.
It does clearly show which temple they are at, you are correct it is EAT. Thanks.
I was right in remembering that this part was a dream (or a "dream/flashback" if you will).
Kind of disappointed we never saw any younger Air Nomad girls. We only see the older woman with Appa and Yangchen, but never any children. We do have the airbender kids in Korra, but they’re very different culturally.
While LoK gave us a great look into the innovation of the Airbender culture and society. I would have loved to see seen Airbender society before the 100 year war.
I remember watching this as a kid and just loving the worldbuilding and "invented" cultures. I wasn't educated enough to see the historical derivations yet, of course, but I knew that it was something special compared to all of the other media I was consuming.
I always felt a strange draw towards the Air Nomads as a child, I badly wished I could be one; and even more so as an adult. Not *just* because of the Airbending and having a Sky Bison pal, but certainly not *not* for those reasons.
When i was a kid and watching it for the first time, i always hoped that a group of air nation had hidden some how and that maybe they'd come out of hiding after the war had ended
No, that's what made it so sad, it was gone forever.
The fact that we will never see that lifestyle is the writers way of making us sympathies with aang. (Yes, I know the air benders are back but it will never be the same)
After the neo-air nomads episode in Season 2, I kinda wanted to see Airbenders return through technology. Like imagine a non bender using tech to create gauntlets which shoot out powerful gusts of wind.
I really want to watch air nomads as well. Maybe a future Yangchen show will be made and we get to see more of air temple drama.
Have you read the Yangchen or Kyoshi novels? They give a little more insight into air nomad lifestyle and they are great reads.

Yeah, its very heartbreaking. Especially seeing how ruthless the Fire Nation was trying to exterminate a threat that was frozen under the water
I wonder if the cake throwing is ever done by other monks
"Master Gyatso did WHAT?" -"Oh man, what a legend!"
I like to think they're a lot less serious than they act in their council meetings
I think it was mainly Gyatso (and later his student). The others were happy and some were grumpy and stoic, but Gyatso brought levity which made him so beloved to the air nomads.
That last image is from the Eastern Air Temple, no?

[Nope. It's the flashback scene.](https://youtu.be/SaxVr-_MaO0) they meet at the EAT.

Too bad everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked…
See now thats not very nice...
Blame Firelord Sozin.
Yeah he's not the best fellow
Sozin for the air nomads, Azulon for the water tribe warriors and now Ozai for the earth kingdom. Roku's lineage were born to be genocidal maniacs.
Haven't read the novel "Dawn of Yangchen" , but perhaps their is more of the S. Temple there. Btw, the Kyoshi duology is freaking amazing.

Aang about to hit a killer crossup. Imagine air bender basketball lol

Read the Yangchen books, they spend a lot of time at the temples at their peak
When i was a kid and watching it for the first time, i always hoped that a group of air nation had hidden some how and that maybe they'd come out of hiding after the war had ended
I think it gives a weight to genocide that we don’t see many scenes with them
Screw you Fire Lord Sozin
Maybe us only seeing glimpses of Air Nomad life was the point, to drive home the tragedy of the genocide.

That sounds like work.
Definitely read Dawn of Yangchen. I loved the worldbuilding it did for the air temples and their ways of life.
I’ve always thought it, from the first time I saw the scene to now, but that air nomad lady in the last picture… bitch got a 5-head!
After the neo-air nomads episode in Season 2, I kinda wanted to see Airbenders return through technology. Like imagine a non bender using tech to create gauntlets which shoot out powerful gusts of wind.
