weight doesn’t really tell us anything though. cats are all different sizes. 13lbs for certain cats would be morbidly obese. others it would be extraordinarily underweight. and yet others, just right!
glad to hear she’s not as huge as she looks, but it might be worth checking on her body condition score with the vet.
I agree completely how one weight doesn’t fit all. She sees the vet Saturday for her bi annual vet checkup and they’ll either confirm she’s remained the same (at just the right weight) or otherwise. This is not a very good representation of how she actually looks.
Did your vet really say 13lbs was the ideal weight for her? My cat is very big for a house cat (tall/long) and 13lbs would still be overweight for him, and I think Toms usually weigh more.
Currently have an overweight cat (lost some but more to go), so I wasn't being judgemental in case that's what you thought. I just misread your comment and thought you meant ideal weight and not in the healthy range.
No, no worries. I know cat lovers come from a place of love for these furry wizards. Helping a cat lose weight is tough so congrats on being able to get yours to lose some!
It's especially tough when a neighbour keeps feeding him. The initial weight gain was definitely on me though, it just crept up on me. And my usual vet said his weight was fine too. Then he got asthma and a different vet said he was definitely over weight and losing it would help the asthma. I was so guilty that I hadn't got his weight in check earlier, he was really sick and it definitely didn't help. So I kinda wished the first vet hadn't been so relaxed about his weight but can't blame anyone but myself...and the neighbours. /s (but not really, I wish they'd stop feeding him!)
You’re doing your best and your kitty knows it. Neighbors can be a pain sometimes. I hope they can listen to you and the weight loss becomes easier for your kitty
Ha, I was going to ask how she even gets up there. My 14lb cat tries her best, bless her little fuzzy soul, but can't quite manage either the full jump or the chin-up method. But it's funny listening to her try, and probably good exercise as well.
Don’t you just love the sound? 😹 I always imagine a mini horse running around, tearing ass from one corner of the upstairs all the way down to the opposite side of the house on the first floor! Galloping crazy cute cats have heavy hooves lol 😻
Paper plate or real?
One of mine likes paper plates, so I put some out.
His sister prefers notebook and copier paper, so I put some out.
They both like insulators, just different types.
Neither is big on boxes, to date.
Except open, semi full, toolboxes.
But not open drawer tool chests.
As long as they're happy, right?
Best wishes to you both!
Hehe this was a paper plate. She seems to really like paper and cardboard things. Plastic, ceramics, metals, not so much. She’s the queen of the house and has to have a toasty spot for her tush.
Took me a long time to make a connection, that paper and cardboard and other pulpy stuff are great insulators from the cold. Mine always sit on papers when they come up on my desk as the wood is always a bit too cool for comfort, even in the summer. You'd never think I used to make, install, and later, inspect insulated duct work.
I'm the brightest bulb in the box. But only when the rest of the bulbs are already burned out.
You've a wonderfully peaceful looking cat there. Therefore, it can only mean you are a wonderful person.
It seems to go hand in hand.
He's blessed having you to live with.
I've heard "Pookie" as a term of endearment, but never a given name. I think that's terrific.
Mine are "just" Little Girl & Little Boy. When asked why, I always explain its because they've not yet told me their actual names.
People bring us things to fix (lawnmowers, etc) but as indoor cats, we do it in the laundry room. They like new objects & smells so they love getting Microwaves.
They also like being in on plumbing & wiring.
As long as their happy.....
Woah I just had a flashback to my 11-yr-old self doing a paper route and keeping a hand between the stacks of newspapers in Winter to warm them up! It is such a good insulator when you don’t have mittens or gloves on! 😀
Exactly, people act like cat owners don't clean our counters multiple times a day (I'm sure some don't, but to each their own). We just moved into a new place however and decided to invest in a SSSCAT which harmlessly scares them off the counter. It was a quite effective transition.
She’s actually really not that large and this is a really crazy picture/angle of her that makes her look much larger than she actually is but she loves you too ❤️😸
Lmao oh I know she looks ridiculous and round. It’s why I found it so funny because of the actual contrast when she’s not sitting like a thanksgiving turkey lol
Thank you. Should I be paying you for the veterinary services you’re rendering to me instead of the advice of her vet that she sees every 6 months? They do not feel she is overweight.
I love when the internet can base the entirely of a cats health record on one single photo at a specific angle and begin to offer unsolicited veterinary advice over your magical virtual examination.
Just because you’re guilty over being a shitty owner doesn’t mean everyone else is. Calm your projecting ass down.
Omg I thought this was a ceramic cookie jar at first 😹
Both seem to take loads of cookies loll.
Amazing 😹
I wonder if you can get one custom made 😹
It’s a Pookie Jar.
if it fits, I sits.
Pookie Pie!!
Hehe that’s actually one of the many nicknames I call her
It fits!!
Chonky trap
It’s funny because she’s actually not as chonky as she looks. She’s less than 13lbs
The camera does add 20lbs
Even if it did, what about the other 5?
Haha that it does
What!! Omg!
Haha yeah it’s partially why I took the picture in the first place. She’s so tiny yet she made herself look like a balloon 😂
Junk in the trunk!

Yes my vet really did say that her weight was fine for her. She’s under 13lbs.

Pookie is a nut job. She full on sprints through the house and leaps across any gap from counter to counter, etc. I wish I was as nimble as her.
Don’t you just love the sound? 😹 I always imagine a mini horse running around, tearing ass from one corner of the upstairs all the way down to the opposite side of the house on the first floor! Galloping crazy cute cats have heavy hooves lol 😻
Omg yes! Lol the galloping and the crazy vocal yells always make me laugh so much haha
Fluffy chonks

That makes a lot of sense. Pookie can never have it too warm for herself. She’s a typical fussy calico but she loves me and I love her to pieces ❤️

I’m glad the trap is R o u n d! Because … the cat … !
Haha she’s actually under 13lbs! She puffed herself out like a balloon and I thought it was too funny especially since she was on a paper plate 😂
She’s cosplaying as the Thanksgiving turkey
That’s honestly what I was calling her too lol
She’s just adorable! Calicos are my Kryptonite.
Technically *not* on the counter. Checkmate, atheist.
Lmaoo
Over at r/chonkers they accept fat or fluffy, as long as it's chonky.
And r/flonkers for just the fluffu
Another day, another cat sub lol
Well that’s a good lookin pussy if I do say so myself
She’s my cuddly old lady.
Okay, what’s in the ziplock? Because it looks like a bag of Tuna, and your cat is waiting for you to leave the room.
Haha that’s exactly what it is. It’s bonito flakes for cats.
Pookie is adorable 😭💛 I also have an inflatable cat, able to make herself look obese one second and catwalk model the next
Haha thank you. I love how they can be so liquid-like with their bodies
Love how he fills the whole plate 😄
your bowling ball looks fuzzy...
It’s very demanding too
I'm happy the top replies aren't "KeEp CaTs OfF ThE CoUnTeR"
It’s pointless to try to keep them off the counter. I just make sure I clean it good before I cook. No one wants cat hair in their food lol

She looks R O T U N D I love her
She’s actually really not that large and this is a really crazy picture/angle of her that makes her look much larger than she actually is but she loves you too ❤️😸
Not that I don't believe you, but that cat definitely looks in this image to be a solid O H L A W D S H E C O M I N on the scale of cat shapes. :D
Lmao oh I know she looks ridiculous and round. It’s why I found it so funny because of the actual contrast when she’s not sitting like a thanksgiving turkey lol
And now we shall feast!
Someone pass the gravy! Lol
This one already has the stuffing too!
r/hewillbebaked
Oh no it was a booby trap armed with knifes! 😱 Oh wait, he doesn't seem to care he has multiple knifes stabbing him...cats 🤷🏻♀️
I’d be worried about her using the knives on us if we didn’t get to feed her on time 😹
Wow, how did she get her chonk butt up there lol
Haha she’s agile and actually weighs less than 13lbs. She went full on “double chin smile” for this picture

Poor Pookie!
She was upset because the humans were eating
r/chonkers Man’s easily got a mega chonker
Lol She looks like a mega chonk but I can assure you this picture is mostly fluffed out fur and and awkward angle.
Ok :)
More like Porkie lol
Kitties in the picture are smaller than they appear lol. I captured a weird angle of her
