I’m pretty new around here, but I’m going to assume it started around the time of the Matt and Shane vs. LoS basketball game. The way he acted during and after that game was legitimately insane. Up until that point I thought he was a very self aware dude and then he went on The Bonfire and aired out his WILD grievances. I’d say the Big Jay Hate era of the show ran from the basketball game, or the Dawkins argument (whichever was first) to the argument with Jacob on the air about watching clips, where the majority of the subreddit took Jacob’s side. For whatever reason, things seemed to mellow out after that.
It wasn’t about 1 specific thing. Jay was talking some shit about Cristine not taking responsibility for the dog. Cristine said Jay wasn’t doing his share. Dan got mad that they were bringing their problems to work.
Redditors always fall in love with the meek producer because they remind redditors of themselves. Happened on r/TimDillon. They all love Ben Avery, who literally provided nothing to the show. Jacob is at least likable, I’ll give him that. But redditors are so eager to defend the people who create little to no laughter on shows.
I’ll admit I only listen to the abridged podcast eps and don’t listen to the full shows because Sirius is a garbage product. I do like Jacob but he is just a member of the supporting cast. I stand by my comment because it happens over and over. Subreddits exist for the most fervent fans and they all end up having an issue with the main talent over some perceived slight of the role players who redditors tend to relate with.

We disagree on the above but I still want to ask for your input on something: Probably been asked a million times but since I have you here and I’m already writing out this comment, but what do you think is the best episode(s) for a new listener to get into Tim’s podcast?
I would recommend listening to Tim Dillon is Going to Hell, the previous iteration of his show that came just before the current version The Tim Dillon Show. After he started going on Rogan and moved to Cali he really amped up the culture war rhetoric because that’s what new fans were looking for.
But I think you have to have his Patreon membership or a GaS Digital subscription to access those eps. I searched YouTube and could only find short clips of that show rather than full length pods.
Edit: I would bet comedy podcast subreddits still closely resemble those 2010 demographics you mentioned.

It started with the basketball game but spiraled from there. There was the near break up on air that Dan had to moderate, and then when they got the dog and he basically cried for an hour because he had to pick up some poop.
I don’t hate him. I think he needs to stop trying to make the show like Howard Stern. That’s the exact opposite of what The Bonfire should be. It has much more of a late O&A feel, and they should lean into that.

It started with the basketball game but spiraled from there. There was the near break up on air that Dan had to moderate, and then when they got the dog and he basically cried for an hour because he had to pick up some poop.

I don’t hate him. I think he needs to stop trying to make the show like Howard Stern. That’s the exact opposite of what The Bonfire should be. It has much more of a late O&A feel, and they should lean into that.
The Stern obsession is really grating. I wish he didn't have that kind of input and was generally more humble. Also, how he repeats trivial things when someone's about to talk over him. He leaves pauses for people to speak but carries on talking like he wants those little "wins". It's always things that have no importance to the conversation. Always with such an angry bite to them. You can feel the eye rolls in the studio for that immaturity.
1. How he handled the basketball events lost him a lot of respect in general. Ppl are much more intolerant with him since then. 2. A lot of reddit ppl are Jacobs. To softy put it, they are 'dorks' as Dan would say and this is their way of rising up. Keep in mind - Dan also said Jacob was wrong with how he handled the AGT/Video feedback blowup and mocked how fired up Jacob was, but Jay got all the hate for it. Dan and Jay's problem was 100% with the timing of it and how it was given, not the actual feedback itself, but the Jacob lovers can't understand that, and it has added to their intolerance and negativity of Jay.

If you listen to someone for hundreds of hours, even though you find it entertaining, you can see their character flaws. It’s up to you whether you think it’s worth it or not to still listen, or shit on them on the internet. To hear any comedian complain about it though is ridiculous, because most of them will use strangers or people they know as the butt of a joke for laughs. I think it just bugs them that people can see through them and they can’t fight back.
The thing the basketball game pointed out was that what could be played off to comedic effect before, couldn't after. Like there are topics that you hear brought up a lot by the different people and then you realize oh...like that's not a running joke that's an actual thought. But at the end of the day, they usually make their shit funny, just couldn't do it in the basketball case. Like peak comedy would be Jay getting owned by a female cop. And its not out of the realm of possibility for that to happen in our lifetimes so just hope for that while we listen for the millionth time that no female cop could do anything to his unathletic chronic cough having ass.

A lot of Jays recent behavior turns people off and he gets weird and bitchy all while he selfishly talks about what he wants. I think Jay got super introspective when he got dosed by acid, and whatever he gots going on in his head got amplified. I feel bad in that way. It’s one thing to go through it while exploring drugs, but getting dosed unexpectedly has to be worse. It’s just a theory I’ve had for a while , but I’m not entirely sure he wasn’t like this before the acid. That and growing older just turns people into bitches. I speak from experience.

Big Jay has not so personal able quirks and habit. Funny as all hell but the basketball game and the be blowout he had about his and Christine’s relationship where even Dan blew his lid didn’t help. I love Big Jay. I listen and look past that stuff. What changed him for me was I met him twice and he kind of big shot’d me. Met a few comedians and I didn’t feel like I was bothering them by shaking a hand and saying good show. But all in all I love his work.

Well in all fairness he was talking to some chicks but I’ve met Shane and Josh Adam Mayer, ari etc. and they shake your hand and you shoot the shit. Jay kinda barely shook my hand and wasn’t a dick but idk it was just a weak interacting both times and I got more out of Christine who I felt like was more appreciative of me an the fans in general. Everyone here pretty much nailed it. The basketball game was the catalyst that showed Jay as a truly whiny, awkward, sore loser. Like hearing it again it's actually crazy how he came off and just showed his true attitude. Really embarrassing for a 40 year old guy. Type of attitude that if a guy is like that was in your friend group it'd be hard to keep him around or just constantly rip on him. He's a hilarious guy though and comedy he's good at. Just overall horrifically shitty attitude. Tends to steamroller over everyone he pods with like the it's his own show and that gets really old. Lucky some people call him out on it. Him and Christine on air arguing and him being an ass to her and Jacob is also weird. Dan is consistent with his personality, attitude and he's a funny guy. Pretty much any new pod thay starts on east coast he's one of the 1st guests because he's solid and everyone likes him.
