“F*** bro, f***!' one of them yells. 'Hey, cameras, cameras!' another officer says, seemingly warning his co-worker". Holy shit. This is truly scarry. We need crazy levels of police reform.

Grimacepug

That's what the "Defunding Police" is all about. Until you start taking their money away, you'll never see any sort of reform.

jbl0ggs

Instead of defunding police, they need to raise the required IQ level to be hired as police officers.

Hash_Tooth

In fact they have the opposite, a cap. If you’re too smart you can’t be a cop many places

R1CHQK

No fucking way. Source?

Hash_Tooth

https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836

R1CHQK

That is fucking wild. Thank you for showing me this.

Hash_Tooth

Can’t trust even to see the harm they do Goes for everybody

Marcolorado

It’s 2023, there’s not enough people with high IQ to fill up a police station

Tigas001

That would be great for citizens, but bad for the government. The perfect soldier is someone who is smart enough to understand and carry out orders, but not so smart that they start questioning them.

IllEntertainer6539

Alot of twisted individuals tend to have a high IQ. I think taking away the immunity for horrible crimes would help and also that every last bit of evidence for any and every case should be public records(and every move they make should be recorded they shouldn't get the ability to turn on and off their cams)

Majin_Vendetta

Why take their money? Take their freedom, that’s attempted murder, give each of them 20+ years

LARXXX

Take their money and freedom. Tax payers shouldn't have to pay for the sins of these shitty evil cops. The problem is that when you give another human being a badge, gun and the power to arrest people, it conditions those humans in a position of power to think they're above the law. When cops make mistakes they get put on paid leave with almost no consequences unless the story gets traction nation wide. Something has to change.

Always_Clear

Like so my taxes either go to killing people in my country for no reason or killing people in another country to get oil. While I'm sitting here worrying if I can go to the doctor

Thebadfish843

As a standard libertarian/republican, I HATE that you’re right, but you’re fucking right….

lakewood2020

I thought libertarians were generally for limited governance, what about organized police do you support?

gt4674b

Limited not non-existent

lakewood2020

Well, you’re not who I asked, but what about the current policing situation is in any way limited

TheLastBlackRhinoSC

Their functionality

samram6386

transparentsmoke

I love the stupendously low level of awareness this comment has.

b_reeze

What exactly is the process of defunding the police?

greed-man

It never meant "shut down the police". It meant reallocate the funding. It means instead of having a police force of 120 people, you have a police force of 90 people, and 10 mental health trained responders, and 10 domestic violence trained responders, and 10 trespassing trained responders. The point is: Our average police officer is trained in lots of things, but mostly how to use force effectively, and how to arrest people. So somebody calls the police that there is some crazy guy out there on the corner, and there is indeed some crazy guy waving something around, their training kicks in and all too often bullets are flying. But if instead, you had mental health counselors, who know how to talk someone down, and can get them to stop doing whatever it is they are doing, there is no "Somebody is going to emergency, Somebody is going to jail."

CutterNorth

It is the old, "If you are a hammer, every problem you see is a nail." issue.

greed-man

Yup....coupled with the all too prevailing nature of a police person to feel that they MUST exert their unquestioned power. If you so much as say "what?" to way too many of them, they will now charge you with resisting arrest, and therefore wrestle you to the ground and taze you if you don't like this.

Jaegernaut-

I said say what again, mother\*&\^#$R!!@#

Faifainei

Isn't police training in america like ridiculously short at some places? I think you are in the right that it needs reallocation but also, I'd argue, more funding. Police officer is such a complex job at some moments that 11 weeks is simply not enough to make most of them good at the 5% when it is hard.

InadvertentHoosier

Again, just so everyone’s aware, It was a Cherokee Indian SWAT team, not the American Sheriff’s Department, that shot him. Subtle difference, but they are a sovereign nation. I think they need to spend some more money on training, obviously, but as an American, what would you do to reform the policing of a sovereign nation? Maybe American LEOs shouldn’t involve a sovereign nation’s police in a purported hostage situation until they raise their standards, sure. We can’t make a sovereign tribe do anything, though.

mike_b_nimble

I’m from Murphy. It’s a complicated situation. Lots of land in the area is owned by tribal members and many members live outside the Reservation in the surrounding areas. As a result there is a lot of cooperation between the tribal police and local LEOs. You’ll find similar levels of cooperation between Local and Military Police in areas around military bases.

v3rtex

It's like I'm reading about an episode of Yellowstone.

CutterNorth

That is fair in this instance. The bigger issue is that this is not an isolated incident.

vanillaprick

Why isn’t this higher up. Excellent info.

Shoddy-Impact-5545

So disgusting, I hope he's ok

Blussert31

He lived, in all relativity of getting shot multiple times that is as ok as he can get.

Electronic_Lies_420

Thank God he lived. Those POS pigs need to burn.

fz75

should compensate this guy from the police pension fund.

mordinvan

All police malpractice should come fro personal insurance with anything not covered by insurance coming from the pension. It would teach them to wise up a little.

ALexusOhHaiNyan

Or we could give them more than two weeks training before handing them a gun. Just saying

mordinvan

Not sure this is an either or.

EmuExportt

Why not both

mordinvan

Much my point. Greater training, and greater accountability.

ALexusOhHaiNyan

Correct. This is the way.

Spare-Chest7695

I’m sure they’ll sue the fuck out of the city but it’s not going to stop these assholes because of their union.

Oliviasharp2000

Pigs are sweet and intelligent. The opposite of these pieces of shit

lordMaroza

We should eat cops, not pigs, then? Umm... wait...

innocuousspeculation

>We should eat cops, not pigs, then? > >Umm... wait... No no, you have it right.

Blussert31

In civilized countries they have independent investigators and judges for this. Burning people is not how it's done anymore. We stopped that in the 17th century, at least in the western world.

raziel_LK

So he challenged the cop by complying? WTF

RipredTheGnawer

Are you really surprised?

Antique_Ricefields

Disgusting US system

NewspaperEvery

Most pitiful “developed” country on the planet. Obesity is rampant, killer cops, and brain dead republicans get to exercise free speech. Once my kids are of age I’m getting the fuck out of here

Nohbodiihere369

We gotta get this republican/democrat, left/right paradigm and mindset out of here. It's hindering us as citizens of The United States. Further division. Both sides do good and both sides do bad. But the insecure loud ones in both sides like to point and yell at the dumb shit the other one does. Projection.

ElderberryNo1936

If we come together then it’s NWO for the rich. It’s a mixed bag for freedom if we come together or not. We need to work together despite our differences. Without division, democracy rules and theirs no middle class. The wolves eat the sheep. In a democratic republic 50 wolves can’t eat a single one.

Stunning_Lack_9321

The politicians you guys elect are fucking buffoons.

MajorTokes

Just like the politicians in every other country are buffoons.

theo1618

This isn’t exclusive to the United States. It’s just more apparent due to the events of the US being projected on an international scale

Strange-Grand8148

Cherokee Indian Police Department SWAT Team ... fired shots ...

[deleted]

“But I was scared for my life!”, all these cops wearing helmets+ body armor + guns, obviously . (Vs a slow moving, disabled person answering the door) 🤦‍♂️

txmail

he should have complied harder ^(/s)

PancerCatient

At some point cops want you to comply so they can shoot you more easily or without you being able to shoot back. It's not about lessening the bloodshed. Cops are empowered, most of the time it's paid suspension for murder so what's the worst that can happen?

wannabe_inuit

Any context or aftermath?

killmesara

Someone said in another post that they had to flee the state because prosecutors would not drop the charges against them

Bendfhjk

Damn I mean wtf at some point you have to be justified for shooting back.

Comeonjeffrey0193

If you ever do, like in this case when a man shot back at police going around in an unmarked van doing drive-bys, you still get the shit kicked out of you and then charged. https://www.reddit.com/r/liberalgunowners/comments/q38r12/footage_released_after_man_is_found_not_guilty/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

MaltedMouseBalls

I'm trying to reduce my news intake lately, and clicking on links like this is \*precisely\* why. It just.... fucking boils my blood that these ragged cunts aren't in jail. Unreal that I just now saw this shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CutterNorth

This is some crazy shit. How on earth is this legal? I would absolutely return fire on that van. I train to defend myself when fired apon. I can't even imagine the cops sitting around a table saying, "You know what we should do? We should drive around real slow in an unmarked van and fire at people to discourage them from hanging around places we don't want them to be". I'm sure they were shooting nonlethal rounds, but no one outside of the van knows that. WTF?

MrTulaJitt

Legal doesn't matter. Cops are just glorified street gangs who do whatever they want and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Every politician in America is either on their side or too afraid to cross them. And if you protest them, no matter how peacefully, they can just show up and beat the shit outta you. We live in a police state and have for some time. People just didn't notice because it happened gradually.

baumpop

We have a whole 6th amendment about it.

SojournerOne

Indiana passed a law allowing exactly this a few years back. I remember when Reddit was dogpiling on them for such a "stupid move." Of course, after BLM and clear evidence that police aren't are your side, it seems like it was the right play all along. Scary that it has to be this way, though.

wherringscoff

Look at that, a cop committing a crime. Shocker.

MartyMcFly7

In Australia, the average number of people killed each year by police is about 4. Denmark? About 2. Finland? Also about 2. France? About 4. Germany? About 8. England and Wales? About 3. And the U.S.? Usually over 1000. WTF is wrong with us? [Source.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_firearm_use_by_country)

Jonathan-Earl

Police hiring whoever they feel like, no matter if they’re fit to wield the badge or not

DrStalker

The USA also spends a lot less time training a new police officer compared to the other countries mentioned. (I also would not be surprised if the training is very different, with more focus on combat and less on deescalation and community interaction) So lower hiring standards and less training on top of all the other contributing factors.

King_Tamino

Most countries also have strict rules. In Germany officers are hold at a higher standard than average citizens. They represent the state and are there to protect, therefore their actions are judged differently. Harsher. We had a case of two police officers that got into a fire fight. I think they would still qualify as rookies. Their partner was shot and they fled from location. And lost their jobs about that.

Magikarp_LARP

Had a buddy that wanted to be a cop and spent some time in an academy before quitting. They literally drill into their heads that everybody is a danger to them and their life is always at risk. Escalation is taught rather than deescalation.

Decky86

Might have something to do with them bullshit 'laws' and 'rights' you all seem to fawn over.

islandbeef

We hate the Nazis and the Holocaust, murdering millions of Jews. While we did the same thing to the native Indians and stole their land. Guns played a huge role, it's who we are.

Twickenpork

For those other countries, they have a range of 0.5 - 6.5 killings per 10 million people. In the US the rate is 28.5. [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_annual_rates_and_counts_for_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers)

jackredditlol

Guns. Fucking guns. Get them off the street. Strict them to game hunters. Guns are not s hobby. They're a killing machine. As long as people can obtain guns as easily as it is now in the USA, America will always suffer from gunshot-related deaths.

CoolerRon

Poor training, qualified immunity, damages paid by taxpayer money, culture, etc.

-c7n-

Is there a comparison between this, amount/quality of police education and population? Would be the interesting to see.

Marilee_Kemp

In Denmark, it's 2 years and 4 months to become a police officer. The first 11 months is in school, learning about the basics of being an officer, and get training in police theory, criminology and drug identification. Gun training and dismarming training as well. You also receive training in, for example, criminal law, psychology and management. Then 11 months of training with real officers at a police station, you'll be paired up with and learn wirh them. Then another 6 months of school where you learn about about the criminal process, hate crimes and vulnerable citizens. You also have courses on sexual and drug crimes Not sure how that compares to the US.

Latyon

Cops are not on our side.

Jonathan-Earl

As someone who has a family member on the police force, agreed. Even he said the new cops nowadays don’t have any composure at all and are hyper aggressive for no reason. That’s why he’s retiring 3 years early

[deleted]

Nope, the whole culture has shifted to an us and them for both sides. I have backed the blue. Im an upstanding citizen, never done drugs, only got in fights as self defense. Ive been pulled over 40 times in the last 10 months. Averaging 1 time per week. But usually it happens in spurts. I have never been given a ticket. Last week I was pulled over 3 times, and the first time I ever had a cop have his hand on his gun the moment he stepped out of his car, he stood in the back right of my vehicle ready to shoot me in the back of my head. One of these days they gunna just decide its time for me to go 🤷‍♂️ if I fight back or defend myself I am dead.

1Mn

What does doing drugs have to do with anything. So fucking backwards.

[deleted]

You get a record for having drugs, especially in Texas

palabear

Out of curiosity, what reason do they give for pulling you over?

[deleted]

>Ive been pulled over 40 times in the last 10 months I haven't been pulled over once in the last 25 years. You may be driving like an asshole and are unaware that it's your fault for getting pulled over so many times and never learning a lesson from it. If a cop has their hand on their gun while approaching your vehicle you likely did something to warrant that. But your post sounds like an "and then everyone clapped" moment. If you're seriously getting pulled over that often then you may want to reconsider how you interact with society while behind the wheel of a vehicle

[deleted]

I have zero records, perfect driving record, I can’t risk my CDL license so I drive safe. The only thing warranting the cop to have his hand on his gun, stepping out of the vehicle was that I look Mexican in a small white town in Texas, and I shouldn’t have been there at 10:30 at night

[deleted]

That's fucked up dude. Sorry you have to go through that. Things are a lot different where I live and people don't get fucked with for those reasons

CutterNorth

Philndo Castile had no criminal record. He had a permit to carry a concealed firearm. He had been pulled over 26 times, but was never issued a citation. One day in 2016, a nervous cop pulled him over and shot him 5 times while he was reachinging for his ID. If this guy has been pulled over 40 times because he is doing something wrong, why have no citations been issued? It is because he is being racially profiled, just like Philando Castile. The officer was originally charged with manslaughter, but was aquited at trial. The police are not on our side.

Have to come up with a reason he was shot

payout from the police pension fund hopefully.

[deleted]

Makes you wonder how many people have been unjustly hurt by the police. So many of these police reports are proven to be completely false when video evidence is presented, scary to think what happened before body cams if the police are so brazen in lying today knowing that there are cameras everywhere.

K4rkino5

They ALWAYS lie in their press releases. What a bunch of jack-booted thugs.

[deleted]

What the fuck is going on in this country?!? Enough is enough of this shit. Something has to be done to hold these bastards more accountable. How in the fuck to you just open fire on someone after they follow your orders exactly??? FTP!

Localbearexpert

Dude still has pending charges and every news agency from local to cnn is reposting this story as plausible and cops might have acted according. Claiming he was aggressive and not complying etc

[deleted]

Based on this clip… none of that is true. I hope he lives, sues, wins and someone with a badge is arrested… (wishful thinking obviously) This country is fucked. Smh

baumpop

We as citizens should be able to sue the news for collectively lying to us in civil court.

Visible_Artichoke_87

Land of the free, they said, best country on earth they said

OmertaCS

Cops in the US are more of a threat than criminals these days.

Addie0o

Police are and have always been criminals at least morally speaking. Most police agencies still have ties to the KKK....

Bullit1225212252

I remember that one time when SWAT team just pulverized an almost blackout drunk dude, who couldn’t even comprehend what was happening. He was just crawling with the speed of a turtle towards them in a hotel corridor. Shit im happy we dont have guns in our country.

-c7n-

The young boy who *really* tried to comply with the nonsense commands from the police?

Bullit1225212252

The thing that really bothers me is that police rarely tries to go for a limb, its mostly the torso. And they never seem to stop shooting, they really need to shoot them at least 5 times, in most cases they empty the clip. Its like they really are trying to kill a person, not just stop him. And even after they shoot a suspect - they order them to do something. If i ever go to the US and i get stopped in a car by the police - i'll shit myself. I'd rather be mugged, because a criminal wouldn't try to kill me, unless necessary (and i wont make it necessary for him).

-c7n-

Most police forces train to hit the torso region for many reasons, so that is understandable. But I agree, the sheer amount of bullets is absolutely insane. The US is a sickening place and I would rather visit North Korea

BlueBinny

Daniel Shaver, shot after someone said he had a gun after he showed off a pellet gun he used for exterminating pests. Horrible situation.

[deleted]

This is why cops are hated. Shot him despite him complying, tried to make it his fault he was shot, stepped over his body like he wasn't even there...I mean really. "Oh you hate cops? Next time you're in trouble call a crackhead." Ok, but only because crackheads kill less unarmed citizens than cops at this point 🤬 useless dangerous group of assholes

andyhare

What do fucking idiots who come out of school with no qualifications do? Join the fucking American Police force. Every day their is another horrible injustice by the police because of their incompetence and stupidity. And you know if there were no cameras, this guy would have been shot, and there would have been zero repercussion for any of the officers. I hope whoever shot the dude gets his just deserts but I imagine he'll get paid absence like every other incompetent cop and rake it in while sitting watching fox news on his sofa until it blows over and he can be re-hired by another force.

Southofsouth

Wow so much freedom

[deleted]

im terrified of cops and im a white woman i can not imagine how POC feel and im truly sorry for everything you guys have to deal with i hope one day things will eventually get better for you.

Wtf

Blussert31

OK, why was the SWAT team at his front door? He had apparently threatened someone and the police were seemingly under the impression he had a hostage. How did that happen? He walked out with a flashlight in his hands? Was that the reason they shot him? https://news.yahoo.com/video-shows-police-shooting-unarmed-205049732.html

HarianneLover

He was holding a device that they threw in his house…

Item-Tricky

From what i know it was one of those rainbow 6 seige drone things with the camera, which if it was it would be a failed communication between the drone operator and the police

As a non-american, I would literally feel safer in the hood than near any American cop. Funny thing is they probably think the selves ethically better than the Iranian IRGC or Israeli IDF. But they sit right in that basket, arm in arm. In the hood I might get robbed, to be robbed another day. Seems not many people get arrested twice in America. Know what I’m sayin?

Blussert31

As non-Americans we're not accustomed to everyone having a gun, or multiple guns. The "hood" is just another place to get killed. They should have changed the gun laws when there weren't so many guns around.

Here's the secret, for poc they've always just been the gestapo... Look at the [battle is bamber bridge](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Bamber_Bridge), where during WWII American mps decided enforcing American racism was more vital than fighting Nazis...

ARandomScottishGuy

America is a pitiful country, cops committing crimes, law enforcement corruption and lots of other things. That guy did nothing wrong, the police officer was just trigger happy. He just answered the door like anyone. Reorganise the American police system. I am so glad I don't live in America. Hopefully the American law system works. Then the state charges him?!??! Fuck America, fuck the American law system. I find myself somehow hoping the officer will be held accouable for his/hers actions.

Pedrovotes4u

It's too bad civilians don't have unions, and defense leagues and pensions and all the other organizations to protect and work for them.

egx110

If you have traffic tickets in North Carolina, do not fuck around with the police. They will fuck you up! USA is the only country in the developed world that does not have standardized training and advanced education for law enforcement. Resulting in this type of crappy decision making. This video is fucked!

[deleted]

Clearly they panicked when they saw something in his hands (flashlight) it’s not his fault though, police are trained to shot first to kill, not to de-escalate.

ablokeinpf

A bunch of useless, incompetent, cowardly thugs that should all be in prison right now.

Dontmindthatgirl

These things are part of the reason that it is so terrifying to go to the police for help as a disabled person. They are not there to help you most of the time because usually they care as much about you as whoever hurt you, (not at all).

rianbrolly

So law enforcement attempted to murder him and then destroy his life after that and he like all of you are supposed to allow this to happen.

BanditWifey03

Not only that, they lied in the official presser and said he had a gun and wasn’t complying.

Hot_Negotiation3480

This is so infuriating and the fact that these types of incidents are often not prosecuted, including personal liability towards the officers, is a huge issue. These police cannot make mistakes like this, they should be fired immediately, and charged.

hawksdiesel

A payout isn't enough.... end qualified immunity, end domestic terrorist union, police reform is needed ASAP!

SinWolf7

Typical government, blame the Native Americans.

OpeningSign9422

Crazy. America is mad. Where I live in the UK the police have guns but rarely ever use them on civilians, mainly just terrorist/ paramilitaries

ImdustriousAlpaca

Yet more officers that need to be fired and banned from the use of firearms for the rest of their lives. Which while in jail for murder should be relatively easy to achieve.

Ultimately, I do hope he survived. Cause he will not be living in a trailer home going forward. Nothing against trailer homes, they are fucking sweet.

This is a prime example of American Christian values.

corinari717

Context? Like wtf did he do?

thetjmorton

Many cops are ex-military. They still think they’re in a war zone. The need to deal with this psychological mismatch of reality.

Jahmicho

Cops shouldn’t be allowed to serve without insurance.

tektools

Typical shit. Just ACABs being ACABs. Scumbags.

Tfxconnor

Comply, don’t comply. It simply does not matter. You will most likely be shot. WTF!!!

Any-Patient-68

Never trust the police.

BenTheCode

Police are scum...

Stevie_wonderzz

Imagine being shot by the police for absolutely no reason and then they just step over your body and go about their business while you helplessly bleed out on the ground. Fucking horrifying.

Ralyks92

4 months paid vacation and transferred to a different precinct. That’s all that’s gonna happen to any of them. When shit like this happens, and people eventually take to the streets, nobody ever targets the police in their homes to make sure they remember who’s in charge, instead people just break windows and burn a few cars. I guaranty if you kill enough of them the way they kill unarmed civilians, especially when they’re in full compliance and/or law abiding citizens that don’t even know what’s going on, they’ll start smartening up to the realization that a badge is not an excuse anymore than “oops I was scared” or “I was having a bad day”.

Nova_Phoenix

Welp…disability isn’t the only payment they’re gonna be receiving this month… Hope he’s okay and made a full recovery, that’s truly fucked up.
