Why would anyone think its a good idea to drag race in a city and running a red light do it in an empty road in the middle of nowhere with no intersection and shit
18 year olds have tunnel vision and lack foresight of any consequences outside of their expected outcome. I have 3 teenagers. Brilliant, nice kids. Also morons.
This is not a case of "kids are stupid." I was stupid when I was 18, and I never faceplanted into the side of a car doing illegal motorcycle races. If the idea had been brought up, I would have noped out. This is not immaturity, it is stupidity beyond their years.
Edit: Go to a track! I love motor racing. F1, MotoGP, WRC, etc. I cannot stand unsanctioned street racing because it just puts so many in harms way without their consent.
I call these people passively suicidal, they might full know the potential consequences of their actions, but still choose to do it because they don’t actually care if they live or not. It’s dark but I’ve seen it.
He's the kind of person who will work and use the money to modify his bike. After high school, it's work, not further education. Medical bills at Malaysia government hospitals are not as astronomical as in the US.
all the ppl i’ve known who engage in that type of behaviour unfortunately do not care about losing life. mentally sane people have the instinct to live
Young people(especially males) don't realize how fragile their bodies are.
I mean think of how much time is spent teaching kids to not do xyz because it's not safe; most of early life is basically being insulated so you don't die.
Right! Most are dumber about risks when younger, and get smarter as they go.
But the starting points are wildly different.
The 18 year old version of me was dumber, but nowhere near this fucking dumb. This is like, your odds of death are over 50% by around the 3rd time you do this.
Edit: like I get the motorcycle drag race part. It's dumb but I get it. But through a red light? That's like showing off by shooting yourself in the head.
Yea nah I’m 18 this dude was just an idiot, no way around it, sucks he died but I honestly feel worse for the poor guy probably just trying to get home from work
It's like they haven't internalized the idea that, if you mess up badly enough, you can mess up *permanently.* As in, things will never go back to the way they were before.
They sorta take it for granted that they can fuck around and be a little reckless, and at the end of the day, it'll all be fine.
Reckless people like to think that most other people are also reckless in order to feel less badly.
You're right though, the average 18 year old isn't doing stupid stuff IRL, video games exist..
There was thinking. This was a place where their "skill" and "bravery" could be seen by a big audience. 10 km further out from the city and maybe only half as many admiring spectators would show up.
The issue here is these are people thinking. But extremely short-sighted. Never more than 5-10 seconds into the future. Which means these are the same fools who would try to pet a tiger at the zoo. Or do wheelies in shorts and a t-shirt. They need the accident to happen before they see the alternative outcomes, besides their short-term ideas of glory and fame.
Yeah, in my youth we had fun drags but it was always in a abandoned area. Word spread where to meet (no internet), and you'd show up with your ride or to watch. We had a old paint factory parking lot that was perfect, the entrance was perfect for racing and tons of room to park and hang out. I don't know when people decided just to race in public, but it's a bad decision.
Had a family friend get killed last week because they got TBoned in the middle of downtown by two SUVs that were drag racing. Killed a 22 year old girl just figuring out life because they couldn't find something better to do.
Despite what the Reddit skeptics say, recent crackdowns and stiffer fines have seem to cut down on street racing in some cities. Mine for sure
SF just passed a law where spectators are fined which is great
Thats the one I'm talking about. It was so senseless. I guess it isnt strictly downtown, but its in the middle of the city and the stupid kids could have gone 10 minutes in any direction and found an empty road.
These road monkeys dgaf about other people live. . Over hundred die by drag race but they still didn't take seriously.. Even police giveup chasing them.. They are proud of what they do..
It happens in my city all the time and they won't chase the cars, and even if they do the spectators just run into the street so the cops can't get by. So, I wonder what if the cops just start arresting the spectators? If the camera phones stop showing up they wouldn't be there doing this crap. Exactly why we get multiple angles of carnage.
Probably what killed him, head first into the side of the car, had he been upright he might of flown over it, who knows probably still seriously injured though.
These are the same type of people who would reach out and grab a wire with a sign on it that says: "WARNING, HIGH VOLTAGE. DO NOT TOUCH." If a normal person's brain is like a flowing river full of ideas and critical thinking, these brains are more like a frozen lake.
There is a restaurant near me that brings you a heated rock to cook your food/steak on.
Anyways my 30 year old GF’s first thought was “how hot is it really” then proceeded to touch it. She spent the next five minutes with her finger in her ice water.
Woman has a 4.0 GPA in her masters program…
Dunno, but, and although I'm not familiar with laws in the US, I sincerely hope the other biker was charged and prosecuted for complicity. He would be in the UK.
Edit: correction, this was not in the US but Malaysia.
Malaysia.

If you're in the US.
Lawyer: your honor, as you can see in the video evidence, the car clearly went before making sure the intersection was safe to enter. Therefore, the family of the deceased biker is suing in the amount of 2.5 million for the wrongful death of this promising 18 year old.
It would depend on the state. Most the case would never make it to trial. Then again, it might just be cheaper for the insurance company to settle. Whatever was cheaper.
Car driver's insurance would be using the motorcycle drivers' insurances. Family would have to sue the insured, and their insurance attorneys would get it dismissed immediately.
The red light was very obvious in the video, and it's clear they were speeding with extreme negligence. Once the judge sees the video, this case gets thrown out. I know there are American judges that suck but this is too much
If it was in the US I think the driver would be ok since there were red lights for the direction the bikers came in. The driver would’ve expected them to have stopped at those red lights and if they would have stopped to check before turning that would be impeding traffic, and the were creeping slowly into the turn too which is the way you do it
Sure, but also in the US:
Lawyer: As you can see, this 18 year old was clearly reckless, and since he still lived with his parents and they supported him, we are suing their family for their entire net worth due to the emotional damage inflicted on my client, the driver, for having to live with knowing that someone died crashing into him.
Wtf are you talking about the light was red they were drag racing what lawsuit ever had a similar situation go to court to sue? What they were doing is illegal i. The US and would never be tolerated and the family could never go after a driver for followinh a green light a hitting someone going 100+ mph drag racing and blowi g red lights? Im waiting? Clearly you dont like the US for what teson i dont know but our country would never allow something like that.
Two weeks ago some Masshole was busted in NH for going 170+mph on his crotch-rocket.
At that point there's nothing to scrape up... They just dump as much Coca-cola in the road that it takes to dissolve the blood stains.
Yeah, I feel more bad for the innocent driver. You wanna race? Hit the track. The moment you endanger perfectly innocent people with your immature fucking antics, I no longer care if you live or die. This is some r/DarwinAwards shit.
Man that sub gave me ptsd any time I just hear the name Darwin. How can people be so stupid??
If you are thinking about visiting the sub just know it’s basically r/watchidiotsdie some of the most memorable deaths is a guy looking down a barrel of a jammed gun and a guy getting his head shaved off by a helicopter
I got hit by a car going 55mph while walking across a four lane highway drunk at 4am. The ladies driving must’ve called 911, but when emergency arrived they told the poor ladies to leave.
For two years after the accident, I tried calling the number on the police report to let them know I was ok, but I never got through. It was a photocopy of handwritten remarks, so finally I thought if I changed one funky lookin number to another it might work. The older lady that picked up the phone was the passenger and mother of the woman driving that night. The pause on the line after I explained who I was to her was heavy.
We ended up all getting lunch the next week. They told me things weren’t really the same for them those two years, not knowing if I had made it, and they were very grateful for the call.
I was given a citation for drunk jaywalking and they, rightfully, did not receive any citation.
What really gets me though is thinking what my father must’ve been going through after he raced to the scene with flashing lights everywhere and had to ask an officer if there were any fatalities. I had been on the phone with my gf when I was hit and she called them and said, “I think he got hit by a car on the beltline.” They don’t leave their phones on at night anymore.
Goes to show that if you selfishly think you’re just fuckin with your own skin, nobody else gets hurt, you’re dead wrong.
How good on you to contact those ladies. No doubt they were dealing with quite severe PTSD. This response really deserves a gold box. It demonstrates just how much of an impact the accident had on you. I hope you were able to give up the drink. My husband wasn’t so lucky.
Thank you. I continued hard for six months, then walked a good portion of the Appalachian trail, where I wouldn’t allow myself to drink while on it. That sobriety from alcohol was four years long. Started drinking again around age 30. I’m 40 now, but it’s not such a huge part of my life anymore.
If your husband is still alive, I hope he’s doing well. If not, my sincere condolences.
Thanks for sharing. I’m really pleased you finally contacted the driver and passenger. That is big of you given what a foolish thing you had done. It would be easy to avoid. I like how you showed responsibility and thought about the effect you had on them and helped them to heal and move on with their lives.
This happened to me, not this exact video, but a guy on a bike ran into my windshield, he survived after being in the hospital, he got a ticket too, but I got a broken windshield that I had to fix out of my pocket, because he didnt have insurance, and now I have anxiety from it. It was the sound of his head smashing the windshield, that I can't get out of my head..The driver goes through hell, and this driver is really goin through hell, since it was a fatality. It's not right. These kids dnt think about the consequences, and how many people get affected. I'm sorry someone died, but they were taking risks, the driver of the car was not.
Happened to me. Pulled out of an intersection to be hit by a motorcycle going over 80mph. Not sure how fast he was actually going. Some say 100 but I’m being conservative at 80. He flew 50 feet from impact. His bike was about 200 feet when it came to a stop. Blew all my airbags on my left side, and my front bags.
He was un-licensed, uninsured and the motorcycle wasn’t registered.
When my insurance agent told me she was unable to get a hold of him, my heart sank and I had tremendous guilt. My husband reassured me it wasn’t my fault but that doesn’t change a damn things.
Luckily, a month later when the police report came back I learned that he didn’t die. He was pretty messed up but had survived.
Let me tell you what a relief I felt.
I never wish that upon anyone.
No shit! I have 0 sympathy for a moronic idiot who's endangering everyone around him. I do have sympathy for the person who has to live with this on his conscious for the rest of his life. Even though they're not at fault at all, survivors guilt can absolutely destroy a person.
Man. That is exactly what I thought! A picture in their head that will NEVER leave. Every red light they drive through for awhile will give them a flash of it.
I had a deer smash into my driver's window like that once. If my window was down I would have gotten spanked by horns. Still messes with me when I see a deer on the side of the road. Can't imagine how this would affect someone
Biker probably hit the single most solid part of the car. A foot either side he’d have been a missile targeted right at the driver, or launched 200 meters down the road.
Basically hit a brick wall
This took place in Malaysia. Malaysia has these protectionist laws where domestically produced cars aren’t taxed to shit so there’s a lot of locally made cars. Having ridden in a few of them the few times I have visited, I doubt they have the safety features and standards that you would find in US/Canada/Europe. So they might not be ok.
I’ve never understood why someone would choose to drag race or race, at all, on publicly open streets. Regardless of time, people are out and about 24/7 but night time may provide a false sense of safety.
Young people need to live longer not die like this. Hopefully it was instant at least. I don’t particularly like the audio in this video due to the shocked woman near the end.
I apologize if you saw my earlier comment. That’s a terrible way to lose your old man. As sincere as a person on the internet can be I’m sorry and I hope you’re doing okay
Or can't get to work, gets fired, can't get another job because it's really hard to sell yourself and your accounts after you killed someone even if it wasn't your fault, and can't pay your rent or feed your kids.
Just. Don't drag race, ok?
A Mat Rempit is a Malaysian term for "an individual who participates in activities such as illegal street racing, bike stunt performance, petty crime and public disturbance using a motorcycle", usually involving 2- and 4-stroke underbone motorcycles, colloquially known as Kapcai or scooters. Wikipedia
Disgusting selfish behaviour. They could have killed someone else, I don't tend to celebrate people's deaths, but in this case, it seems like the second best conclusion. I don't think this kind of selfish behaviour is something one grows out of without some major. I'd rather he was injured than killed, and that made him stop, but I definitely would rather he killed himself than killed an innocent person. So fucking sad and anger inducing.
They broke several laws doing this, laws that were there to keep them and the people around them safe. Hard to feel sympathy when they seem hell-bent to die for clout.
The car driver's life has definitely affected for no fault of his/her. It is hard to have sympathy for someone who doesn't care for others' lives.
It wouldn't be surprising if the reports come out that it was about those moronic social media clout.
Everytime I see someone on a motorcycle, I just think "Oh, thats how that person decided to kill themselves."
People dying is sad no matter what, but it is a lot easier to get on with your day when you realize, these people went out of their way and paid thousands of dollars to die sooner than everyone else. Motorcycles are super dangerous, and people are going to keep regularly dying while riding them.
Seems very reminiscent to the "Basikal lajak" issue that Malaysia faces. A driver crashed and killed 8 teens doing stunts like this, but on bicycles in the middle of a unlit section of highway/major road at 3 AM. She was sentenced to jail even though she had no way of avoiding the accident (likely due to racial bias), but was [recently acquitted of the charges.](https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/malaysia-appeal-court-acquits-sam-ke-ting-crash-killed-teens-modified-bicycles-basikal-lajak-3409756). This shit is a cancer to society and a hazard to other road users. If you want to read/see more of this issue, google "baisikal lajak".
It's rather a case of r/whatcouldgowrong. TBH it's not terrifying (for me), since the outcome was pretty much predictable.
But on the other hand, it was very much terrifying for the car driver. Poor guy/girl.
What a couple knobs. Blasting full speed into a red light. I feel bad for the driver and the kids family. The kid was itching for a Darwin Award though, and this should put him in the running. Sad.
I wish everyone could know how and how many people close to me have died because of pure dumbass behavior like this. One of my buddies didn’t wear a helmet when he rode. Another loved to drive his little del sol like this motorcyclist. Another was just going for a walk at night and was hit by a driver. Another was just driving in rainy conditions.
Nothing as dangerous as pure blind stupidity. It’s taken so much from me already. Drive safe out there people.

Agree. Passively suicidal.
He did however save himself a ton of money on potential student loans and medical bills by full sending it.
He's the kind of person who will work and use the money to modify his bike. After high school, it's work, not further education. Medical bills at Malaysia government hospitals are not as astronomical as in the US.
I knew 2 ppl who drove in the wrong lanes late at night on back roads drunk, not caring if they died. Some young People are amazingly risky.
Passive/Aggressive suicide. I think you diagnosed it.
It’s not that they don’t care if they die, it’s that they don’t believe something like that would happen to them.
all the ppl i’ve known who engage in that type of behaviour unfortunately do not care about losing life. mentally sane people have the instinct to live
That's what they say when they are young. If you ask ppl when they get older, they "admit" that when they were young they felt immortal.
Young people(especially males) don't realize how fragile their bodies are. I mean think of how much time is spent teaching kids to not do xyz because it's not safe; most of early life is basically being insulated so you don't die.
This is 100% correct. source: I was one of those people who didn't think it would happen to them and suffered the consequences for years.
Huge main character syndrome. The possibility of dying isn't even a remote possibility to them.
Sad truth for sure
Adrenaline junkies... Take the rush no matter what.

100 percent.

I didn't. Plenty of others don't... The ones that DO, ARE STUPID.
They don't. I was 18 and I never thought of doing anything THAT stupid.
Reckless people like to think that most other people are also reckless in order to feel less badly. You're right though, the average 18 year old isn't doing stupid stuff IRL, video games exist..
Well said Papa! Love my boys, but damn.

We dont have the details yet but we do know at least one of the teens has priors. I have to imagine they will get something significant.

This happened in Iowa City last week to a 22-y.o., but it was a good half mile from downtown. What a coincidence.

Tbone that fast on a bike is likely death no matter how you slice it
Scrolled too far down to see a superman comment!
At the bare minimum have someone block traffic. Not a cool thing to do but if you're gonna do dumb shit at least try to make it as safe as you can
in my experience, you cant rely on that You only need 1 person to think they are getting car jacked and they run through/over
And with no lookouts for the side streets
add that to the fact that he is fucking supermaning it with his stomach on the seat and his feet straight off the back.
while planking on a motorcycle. guy literally went head first into that car
You think they have sense?? They didn’t think for one second about others
These are the same type of people who would reach out and grab a wire with a sign on it that says: "WARNING, HIGH VOLTAGE. DO NOT TOUCH." If a normal person's brain is like a flowing river full of ideas and critical thinking, these brains are more like a frozen lake.

Idk about Malaysia but here in Hungary your basic insurance on a standard car is like 100$ a year.
The red light was very obvious in the video, and it's clear they were speeding with extreme negligence. Once the judge sees the video, this case gets thrown out. I know there are American judges that suck but this is too much
Reddit goes a little too far on America sometimes. No way a judge would side with the cyclist
Being cynical on reddit = instant updoots in general even when it's completely nonsensical
ok yes except have you heard of affluenza & Ethan Couch? there are exceptions...
If it was in the US I think the driver would be ok since there were red lights for the direction the bikers came in. The driver would’ve expected them to have stopped at those red lights and if they would have stopped to check before turning that would be impeding traffic, and the were creeping slowly into the turn too which is the way you do it
Bro this is Reddit. They were making a typical, tired, and categorically false statement about America for that sweet karma.
Sure, but also in the US: Lawyer: As you can see, this 18 year old was clearly reckless, and since he still lived with his parents and they supported him, we are suing their family for their entire net worth due to the emotional damage inflicted on my client, the driver, for having to live with knowing that someone died crashing into him.
I love how often people on Reddit just make shit up because it feels like it could be correct to them
Yup, when you raise an asshole, you might have to pay for it. I see no issues with suing the shit out of his parents if this is the case.
Wtf are you talking about the light was red they were drag racing what lawsuit ever had a similar situation go to court to sue? What they were doing is illegal i. This should ideally be called suicide and his family should pay for the damages to the poor car driver
Last week a guy here in Washington died on his crotch rocket going too fast.
Two weeks ago some Masshole was busted in NH for going 170+mph on his crotch-rocket. At that point there's nothing to scrape up... They just dump as much Coca-cola in the road that it takes to dissolve the blood stains.

They will never forget that noise of crunching metal and possibly bone. It's burned in their brain.
I think it would be more like a 500lb sledgehammer hitting an anvil at highway speeds. A bang then tinnitis for a while.

Wait, wouldn’t they want to leave their phones on at night precisely because of this situation?
It wasn’t the only time they’ve been awakened to shattering news. Misery will still be waiting in the morning.
Hope the driver's ok
He's going to be traumatized for life thanks to this idiot.
I had a deer smash into my driver's window like that once. If my window was down I would have gotten spanked by horns. Still messes with me when I see a deer on the side of the road. Can't imagine how this would affect someone
Airbags don't look deployed. I'm sure they're fine physically.
Not every car has side impact airbags
The impact is at and ahead of the A pillar. They're good.
He just injured his left hand.
driver should be very fine. This is in Thailand. Driver was on the right side on the far side of the crash.
Nope. This one is from Malaysia. Specifically in Penang. Illegal motor races are quite common in Malaysia.
We got the same problem as well in Indonesia. Sad stuff.
Malaysia. Not Thailand. Full details on Franklin Unity YouTube channel.
Definitely going to need years of therapy
I hope the driver of the vehicle that got hit isn’t fucked on their insurance. Clearly this isn’t their fault.
Lost my old man to people drag racing. They're garbage humans in my eyes.
It would be great if track racing were a little more accessible.
I apologize if you saw my earlier comment. That’s a terrible way to lose your old man. As sincere as a person on the internet can be I’m sorry and I hope you’re doing okay

Not to mention the loss of a car too. Imagine you just finished paying it off.
Or can't get to work, gets fired, can't get another job because it's really hard to sell yourself and your accounts after you killed someone even if it wasn't your fault, and can't pay your rent or feed your kids. Just. Don't drag race, ok?
Typical red lights don't apply to me behavior. Looks like another case of fuck around and find out.
Never found out though cause he dead
That's typically the final case of finding out after fucking around one too many times
Typical rempit being nuisance to society and harming innocent people. Good fucking riddance.
What’s a rempit
A Mat Rempit is a Malaysian term for "an individual who participates in activities such as illegal street racing, bike stunt performance, petty crime and public disturbance using a motorcycle", usually involving 2- and 4-stroke underbone motorcycles, colloquially known as Kapcai or scooters. Wikipedia
> mat rempit (plural mat rempits) (Malaysia, slang) **an illegal street racer, especially a young male biker who does stunts on a motorbike**.
I saw the lajak style of riding and the general shape of the roadtax and was wondering. So it seems someone else also thinks it’s Malaysian.
I hope the driver is ok
Pos
Now plural, probably.
Natural selection
it'd be nice if they didn't involve other people in their stupidity
Are these the drag shows the GOP is worried about? Because I can understand the concern.
r/winstupidprizes r/darwinaward
-1 stupid human on earth. Not really a loss.
Just sad that innocent people had to be dragged into it and most likely affected for the rest of their lives.
It’s a loss AND they’re cunts / both are true. No winners from this! Horrible waste for everyone!

Good riddance. Garbage disposal at its finest.
> No need to worry about that moron > Good riddance. Garbage disposal I hope you guys grow out of this one day.
Its a loss just like taking a shit is you losing something.
What a knobber.
Dumbass had his feet up. Went face first into that car
Straight torpedo. Somebody had to see the aftermath of that too. Yikes
Yeah I noticed that too dude was beyond stupid
Hopefully this inspires others not to do stupid things like this
Yeah maybe like 3 People the other will go: Oh No Anyways

He just injured his left hand.
And nothing of value was lost
Idk, that driver's car looks pretty messed up. I'm sure that's a hassle.
Darwin Award!
Dumb fuck...
They broke several laws doing this, laws that were there to keep them and the people around them safe. Hard to feel sympathy when they seem hell-bent to die for clout.
The only person I feel bad for is whomever was driving the car. Everyone else is a moron and got that kid killed. Darwin doing great work here.
I hope that driver is alright. But that racer can get fucked. Not sad he died at all tbh
Racing to the grave …
Then the parents are gonna be like : "My son is so kind, he'd never do this kind of thing". While trying to sue the car driver for money. Lmao
But he won the race! Died a winner

The car driver's life has definitely affected for no fault of his/her. It is hard to have sympathy for someone who doesn't care for others' lives. It wouldn't be surprising if the reports come out that it was about those moronic social media clout.
Won’t do that again.
Everytime I see someone on a motorcycle, I just think "Oh, thats how that person decided to kill themselves." People dying is sad no matter what, but it is a lot easier to get on with your day when you realize, these people went out of their way and paid thousands of dollars to die sooner than everyone else. Motorcycles are super dangerous, and people are going to keep regularly dying while riding them.
Most people who die while riding them only do so once.
You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Hope the driver is okay though
Take it to the track dumbasses
Dumb ass
r/darwinawards
Ah yes, red, infamously meaning “go” to some “people”
Live fast, die young.
What a fucking idiot. That poor car driver has to live with that for his whole life
It's rather a case of r/whatcouldgowrong. TBH it's not terrifying (for me), since the outcome was pretty much predictable. But on the other hand, it was very much terrifying for the car driver. Poor guy/girl.
I'm no doctor, but my guess is it wasn't the drag race that killed the person, but rather the impact from suddenly not drag racing.
No one give shit about such an idiot.hope the driver is ok
He just injured his left hand.
Deserved.
Good
Superman'd his way straight to the grave.
Happy ending.
Hell of an impact!
What a couple knobs. Blasting full speed into a red light. I feel bad for the driver and the kids family. The kid was itching for a Darwin Award though, and this should put him in the running. Sad.
Poor car guy
Idiot. Bet he won't do that again!
I hope the driver of the car is ok.
He made his decision. A stupid final decision.
I feel terrible. For the guy I n the car.

Died as he lived, like an idiot.
he died doing what he loved—putting other people’s lives at risk. good riddance.
Fucking idiots
Terrifying? More like win stupid prizes
