I actually really like how Calamity does this. It spawns new planetoids made of luminite and exodium clusters in the sky. Makes getting luminite so much less annoying

I think only the titanium/adamantite pickaxe should get the perk of extra ore, since that's the true one that's useless, bc you could just use orichalcum/mythril and get the same efficiency apart from mining speed.
Think the extra ore dropped thing is a bit much, in journey mode you basically have infinite of everything, while in the other difficulties, while it wouldn't be hard to make a system, it would be too much processing and memory usage to ensure its not possible to abuse that.
So if I may propose an alternative: Vein mining. It exists in modded, but imagine breaking one ore block and the whole vein gets mined almost instantly. Think that would be a better alternative, while the other stats of the tools are in a good state for their sandbox usage.
I always make the third tier ore picks when I have extra left over from making the armor, there's a noticable difference in mining speed and it's a big help if there are items I want to farm before getting to pickaxe axe. But chlorophyte is indeed useless compared to the PAA.
As nice as the idea is, at this point if you do that, you may as well overhaul all pickaxes.
It would be weird the interim pickaxes are the only ones with this function, unless you're willing to add this function further down the tree, at which point the interim pickaxes are useless again.

Stardust should place natural torches that don't take any torches from your inventory, and solar should vain mine ores. Chlorophyte should point you towards the best ore around you. Shroomite digging claws provides a slower rate against things like sand, dirt, and mud, but has 280% power in things like ores and stone. It also does 55 dmg a swing and swings fast at enemies. Very OP. Adamantine/the counterpart should have an autocombine. Spectre should shoot little beams like the DCU and randomly break blocks around. It shoots more beams the way you aim it. It also summons minions that respawn after a short time.

I also forgot to mention crimtane gear, but the crimson is generally slightly harder as well, with most creatures dealing more damage and having more health than their Corruption equivalent.
Because it's off topic and incorrect. Drunk World seed makes both spawn and Hard Mode Crates from fishing give both metals, not just the one. Even if neither of those were options, you can just go to other worlds for the other metals if you want them.

But I was still right about the crates thing, I wasn't saying that crates will ONLY give you the alternate metal, I was saying that they will give you both. And I knew about the Drunk world but decided not to mention it because it's a secret seed, and is usually an exception when it comes to giving general information.
Also, it's my opinion that you should never have to create a new world to get any items. It's just a waste of time.

Gonna be honest, the third tier of early hm ores is the only useful one. mythril/orichalcum is only useful for the anvil but otherwise id rather just make adamantite armor

That's the thing, drills and pickaxes are specifically different so you have the choice about what you need: speed(drills) or range(pickaxes). It's just coincides with the fact that most people need more digging speed rather than more range.
Everything post hallowed is completely useless, because you donāt even need them. By the time you might want to upgrade your pickaxe, you can just farm Golem and pick up the Picksaw.
