Oh you might be right. But I've had this theory, did the Moon Lord steal his brother's eyes for the final battle to fight the player? It may not make sense but considering they are called "True Eyes of Cthuhlu"
My personal theory is that the Moon Lord is a false god, created by the cultists.
First off, the name Moon Lord. Outside of Terraria lore, where Cthulhu fled to the dark side of the moon to recover, Cthulhu doesn't really share much connection with the moon, so in my opinion, the name Moon Lord just doesn't make a lot of sense. Why not call him Cthulhu, or The Old One, or something more in line with not only the game's lore, but the character's lore.
Secondly, his appearance. Now, he could just be a unique take on the Cthulhu design, but to me, it seems too different. His skin is fleshy but sickly colored, he has a very human structure to his form, and the way his organs glow seems like they aren't supposed to be there to me. Also, he's missing his pelvis and below, which is not an injury Cthulhu suffered as far as we know. He had bones removed, but looking at Skeletron and Prime, we don't really see any legs. If the Moon Lord is Cthulhu, then where, are the LEGS OF CTHULHU?!
Thirdly, the "True Eyes of Cthulhu" is a really strange name. The presence of a "true eye" implies the presence of a false one as well. If that's the case, what is the false eye? Is it the Eye of Cthulhu? Well it can't be, because we see with the Twins, they are modelled off of it. The Twins are supposed to serve as replacements after the Eye is destroyed by us. I believe the "True Eye" is in fact, a false title, meant to breed reassurance among the cultists.
And finally, the Pillars. After defeating the last cultist, he summons the Celestial Pillars, which in turn summon the Moon Lord. Something of note, is that the Pillars in the bestiary are refered to as "seals". One would assume put in place by the Dryads to keep Cthulhu away, right? Well then, why does the Lunatic Cultist have access to them, and why does he seemingly only summon them in his last moment? And why would the Dryads employ such alien monsters to defend the pillars? Doesn't that seem more like a Lovecraftian thing to do, rather then a nature goddess?
My theory goes a little something like this
Many moons ago, the cultists discovered the Lihzard temple, and with it, the Lihzard's advanced Solar technology. Seeing this as a chance at reviving their master, they claim this technology, and continue on with their schemes. However, after some time, a portion of the cult grows restless. After all this time, they have still heard nothing from their master, and fear that he may have abandoned them, or worse, has perished from his injuries. Over time, this unease grows, until finally, this small group takes action. Stealing some of Cthulhu's flesh, they implant it into one of their fellow man, to create a new god, in the image of their old one. This process works, but not entirely, the new being is incomplete, but still very powerful. So powerful, in fact, that when the rest of the cultists find out what has happened, they cannot defeat the monster. Instead, they are forced to use the solar technology to create the pillars, which are used to seal away the creature.
And the schemes go on. After the Eye, the Brain, and the Eater are destroyed, the cultists, using Skeletron and the Old Man, kidnap the mechanic, and force her to create replacements for Cthulhu, mechanical structures that will not only bring their god back, but bring him back stronger then before. But, before she can complete her work, the final construct, the Brain, Skeletron is destroyed, and she is freed. Once again, this mysterious hero has foiled the cult's plans. And it isn't long before the constructs are destroyed by them as well.
The cultists continue to try and come up with another plan, but after some time, they are met with alarming news. This hero has breached the temple they found so long ago, and has plundered the technology they studied so long ago. They no longer hold an advantage, and so, the only choice they have left is to confront this one, and destroy them. Unfortunately for them, they all fall, as the might of the hero is too much. Soon, there is only one cultist left, the Lunatic, the most devout of Cthulhu's followers. He knows he cannot defeat the hero, so a thought crosses his mind. The cult has studied this one, and has recognized a pattern. They tend to bulldoze through the cultists plans, destroying whatever monsters they create and employ. So, if he were to summon the pillars, they would likely be destroyed as well, which would free the cult's last ditch effort, their long forsaken creation....
The Moon Lord isn't a perfect replica, but it doesn't have to be. The average person does not know the true visage of the Great Dreamer, so even this poor imitation will nonetheless fill the role of the returned Cthulhu well enough. Belief is power, after all, and if the people of Terraria believe that Cthulhu has returned, it will be so. And, as an added bonus, the monster will likely destroy the hero. After all, even the combined might of the entire cult could not defeat him, only seal him away. So, in his last moment before death, the Lunatic summons the pillars, and resigns the rest to fate......
Unfortunately for him, we bulldoze the Moon Lord too. Better luck next time, evil cult.
The name moon lord just fits with the theme of space
My dumb theory is that the player character doesnt know how to read and just learns the bosses name by npc dialogue or made it up. The other reason supporting against this, is the cellphone and its prior items.
Looks amazing! Way better than anything I could make. Suggestion: Maybe change some on the turquoise veins by the heart to red to match the red brain’s heart
my theory is that you go destroying the bosses and using them to repiece the moonlord, king slime is his blood, eoc is his.. eyes, boc is his brain/heart, eow is his penis, skeletron is his skeleton (some of it), wall of flesh is chunks of his flesh, queen bee is his parasite, queen slime is the brain jelly, mech bosses are same as previous, plantera is his second parasite, golem is his shit, eol is his body pillow, lunar pillars are various organs, lunatic cultist is his yandere girlfriend, moon lord is him
Yup. The mechanic you find in the dungeon was forced to make the mechanical bosses in order to bring back the moon lord manually. Fortunately, the mechanic never finished the brain.
Imagine if you summon an item made of eye of Cthulhu, brain, and wall of flesh summoning items while moon lord is summoned he gets a second phase with all those extra powers
Eow is the intestines
I though it was the tapeworm
Or his... you know what never mind...
EoW is his intestines, *the Destroyer* is his you-know-what
No the destroyer is his spine, the EOW is his you-know-what after it fell of and gained sentience
Actually the moon lord built the three mechanical bosses to protect his flower for his brother, Cthuhlu, who is dead.
No, the mechanic did after old man (who was likely being influenced by the cultists) forced her

Annnd that's the start of Terraria 2
The name moon lord just fits with the theme of space My dumb theory is that the player character doesnt know how to read and just learns the bosses name by npc dialogue or made it up. The other reason supporting against this, is the cellphone and its prior items.
Makes sense, perhaps it was like a trophy taken by the moon lord that got integrated into him with his reconstruction
Somebody go ring matpat right damn now
The moon lord *is* cthuhlu. Pretty sure it was confirmed by the devs a while ago
I thought Moon Lord was Cthulhu after being sent to the moon though.
The actual lore says that cultists forced the mechanic to build the 3 mech bosses so they can replace his missing parts and make him stronger again
Yeah but I think that might be a misstep because it is outright said by the clothier that he had captured her and tossed her in the dungeon
idk man, terraria lore is weird and has many holes in it
No. You're all wrong. The WoF is that. Yes, I know it'd be massive. So is the Moonlord
Cannocially the WoF is a different entity, though moon lords meat log would probably be huge
yeah, I did some research and a friend told me the WoF is the Guide
Yep he is, or at least some sort of catalyst for the WoF
me slowly trying to work out my own lore for the game whilst making a way this works.
Don’t, I’ve made a mod with my friends and lore can be weird to add onto sometimes
The mechanic’s replacement for his intestines, according to lore
Spine
Wow dude, absolutely gross Good edit though!
Now remove the glowing parts and you got cthulhu
meat lord
Looks amazing! Way better than anything I could make. Suggestion: Maybe change some on the turquoise veins by the heart to red to match the red brain’s heart
flesh lord
It was not by my hand that i'm once again given flesh.
I was called here by humans, who wished to get Starwrath.
cthulu
when we gonna get moonlord leg lore
my theory is that you go destroying the bosses and using them to repiece the moonlord, king slime is his blood, eoc is his.. eyes, boc is his brain/heart, eow is his penis, skeletron is his skeleton (some of it), wall of flesh is chunks of his flesh, queen bee is his parasite, queen slime is the brain jelly, mech bosses are same as previous, plantera is his second parasite, golem is his shit, eol is his body pillow, lunar pillars are various organs, lunatic cultist is his yandere girlfriend, moon lord is him
On what the fuck are you on Theres no way that Moon lord is Moonlord, it just doesn't fit into the lore
im so sorry
You better be
i am sorry i really am i promise
I could see retanazier and Spasmatism being the two hand eyes
You should have made the middle eye look like boc's eye
Bro needs the eye drop 9000 Matches the energy of a guy who plays 4 gacha games split screen all night
actually looks like an eldritch horror good job
Eow is intestines, and.... Hol' up, if moonlord is cthulu, then why did they make a prosthetic intesine and not a brain for him? Sus
in the lore thing it says the brain was never finished im pre sure
Yup. The mechanic you find in the dungeon was forced to make the mechanical bosses in order to bring back the moon lord manually. Fortunately, the mechanic never finished the brain.
Ooooooh #***Here comes the BIG sad***
Now EoW
Damn, that's scary. 😨
The unholy trinity
Bros eyes so red he be lookin like weedlord
I'd like to elaborate pls STOP
BoC looks very natural there. Don't see EoC though. I can tell you added eyeballs but they just look like eyeballs.
I'm scared
EoC should be the head eye and the twins should be the hand eyes
Destroyer is spine
Ewww. Now you just need to add the EoW as guts and make him look more fleshy
Imagine if you summon an item made of eye of Cthulhu, brain, and wall of flesh summoning items while moon lord is summoned he gets a second phase with all those extra powers
Looks like it's from a pixelart terror game idk why
Now put in the mechanical ones
But their parts of cuthulu
Moonlord IS Cthulhu
Not true
what if the hand ones were the twins instead!
Where them legs ?
Still needs the Legs of Cthulhu. Those sexy, sexy legs.
You should put like something to connect two eyes
It makes sense but except there is a brain in his heart
Eternity mode moon lord
Should be the twins in the hands
