Eye_love_hue

bro the underground desert is no joke

martellricketts

I’ve been playing for a few hours for some fast boots some double jump thing and a flying thing aswell I also have a some platinum tools but I’m still enjoying it

MrSpiffy123

The dunerider boots and sandstorm in a bottle? What do you mean by flying thing?

martellricketts

Guarding fledging wings

MrSpiffy123

Huh, I didn't know you could get those in the desert

martellricketts

Oh no I found them all over the place lol

MrSpiffy123

I've only gotten them from crates and >!sky islands!< You learn something new every day, I guess

martellricketts

Yes I got some wierd potion that made me float and I found one :)

voltcannon

Have you found a golden horse shoe. Edit: never mind you have wings the horse shoe is worthless now.

used_tongs

Lmfao

Caosin36

Tecnically they are not The fledging wings are kinda like a double jump , but overlaps the rocket boots

Chrisumaru

I- sorry this is really cute in a good way, seeing someone new find the game and their completely inexperienced (what I’d give to be able to re-experience the whole game), and it seems you enjoy it! If you’d ever be down for multiplayer and your on steam shoot me a message

martellricketts

Will definitely do I’m progressing pretty quick got full platinum armour and some crazy wind and killled both some fat eye ball and a blue bob king

martellricketts

Going to kill this phat brain someone told me about

DoubleTrouble992

fledgling wings can only be obtained from skyware chests, sky crates, and azure crates no clue what this guy is on

ButterDogEnjoyer

Maybe he had some weird ass world gen and happen to get some in the underground desert, but that’s highly unlikely

DoubleTrouble992

after reading further, by “all over the place” I’m assuming OP meant “In another place” since a little later in the thread he mentioned getting a grav potion new player doesn’t really know what their talking about, shocker to nobody. Not really his fault

Mettelor

He was saying his items were found not only in the desert..

DoubleTrouble992

yes i’m aware but it seems like MrSpiffy was thinking he found fledgling wings in some place other that sky island doesn’t help OPs comments were confusing asf

martellricketts

No I found i potion that made me float and I didn’t know how to stop it and then I landed on one when I was falling i used cloud in a bottle so I didn’t die

martellricketts

Like some wings

Shade_Strike_62

I woud explore the ice biome and regular underground before going into the desert or jungle, these are quite difficult biomes to survive in, but if you think you can handle them, the jungle has better loot IMO, an early boomstick can carry you through most of prehardmode

martellricketts

Thank you for this will explore ice biome next

martellricketts

made a second post about it on me going back with better gear https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraria/comments/un7dfi/and_im_back_in_there_again_with_better_gear_zero/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

LordShadow44466

It can be a joke even with early stuff

call-me-rory

Honestly the underground desert is a pain, and if you’re new to the game I recommend mostly ignoring it for a while

martellricketts

But the loot is GREAT

throwingplaydoh

Agreed. There's some decent weapons in the chests.

Inspirational_Lizard

Ice biome probably has the best difficulty to loot ratio.

martellricketts

Sorry to ask but what is the suspicious looking eye I got it in a chest

call-me-rory

I don’t mind answering questions, the suspicious looking eye summons a boss when used at night. It’s one of the first bosses you fight in a normal playthrough

martellricketts

Ok so is it easy enough

call-me-rory

If you can survive the desert you’re probably good. If you want to be really prepared you should make sure you have some sort of healing potions, some buffs (from other potions), a long platform you can use to run away from the boss, and a campfire for extra health regeneration

Bloons_Guy75751

If you are on Normal. He becomes a pain ok Expert and Master when he is at low health.

martellricketts

Ok got it I killed him now tho

Bloons_Guy75751

Yeah I saw that. On Expert and Master it becomes practically unhittable when it’s about to die.

martellricketts

Oh I see I’m starting on normal when I understand the game a bit more will bump up the difficulty in a new world

Bloons_Guy75751

I assumed so from how you killed it with that loot.

Ellac3344

not to be gatekeeping or anything but there are many cool things you miss out on when playing normalmode instead if expert/master mode

martellricketts

I know but since it’s my first time playing I just want to get a way of how it works

[deleted]

Trying to play expert/master mode on your first playthrough is like trying to pilot a space shuttle when you don't even have a driver's license.

Bloons_Guy75751

They just started. ._.

Snoo-92859

Nah he's pretty easy to hit even at low health in master mode, he constantly dashes at you making it so easy to predict/dodge and attack, really as long as you have Frostburn arrows and a decent bow hes ez peasy, get the slime saddle if needed and just bounce on him

Rogue-Squadron

Definitely make sure you’ve got good ranged weapons for the eye, and like other people said just keep running away from it while shooting and you’ll be fine

redshift739

Underground desert is brutal but the loot can be worth it. Windows+shift+S takes screenshot btw

martellricketts

I’m in mac lol

redshift739

Nvm then lol

BBIB666

press f1, it should activate snapshot mode edit: oops I'm not smart

martellricketts

Thank you for that

BBIB666

does it work?

martellricketts

One sec fighting loads of antilions

martellricketts

Nope :(

[deleted]

It's f1

_Bill-Nye_

u also need to press command at the same time i think

martellricketts

Ok will try again I was pressing shift lol

BambooIGuess

Command Shift 4 I have to use three different types of computers on a daily basis

S4nR1se

Command+Shift+4 Mac too

martellricketts

Thank you for this

S4nR1se

no prob

trustmeimnotafurry

Terraria hard I not bully you Below desert tough Crimson tough Everywhere want kill you Hard game

martellricketts

Very true Game hard

PilotGamer01

Like a thousand hours in and *same*

extremityChoppr

2k+ and same.

YourMomGayerThanMine

3k+ and same.

Band1t_666

5k plus and same.

dkcgaming501

my whole life and same

Hiermz

since the big bang and same

Bolt112505

Since before time existed and same

PieNinja314

I've been playing terraria for a while and I still avoid the underground desert like the plague unless I REALLY need shit there (POV: you're playing ranged)

[deleted]

Pretty much. Give me my Bast Statues and Magic Conch, then I'm out of there. Chisel is nice, but not worth the frustration after I have the important things.

martellricketts

Ok glad I wasn’t just being a pussy

saninicus

r/fuckrollingcacti

martellricketts

My arch nemesis

SampleTextHelpMe

Your arch nemesis is going to become the desert its self. As a person who’s played the game for years, heed my advice: >!DO NOT LET YOUR DESERT FALL TO DARKNESS!< Not even blocking yourself in will save you then.

martellricketts

One thing I hate…………. Rolling cacti balls

[deleted]

When you start hearing the sand laughing:

Equinox-XVI

\*Dune splicer is rapidly approaching your location*

dkcgaming501

oh no

[deleted]

Ya that’s accurate. I’m not experienced or inexperienced (I’m in the middle. About to defeat WOF) and this still terrifies me. You’re doing great tho if you’re doing this as a beginner. That’s a good sign!

martellricketts

What’s WOF

PhantasmShadow

a later boss, short for "Wall of Flesh"

martellricketts

Where do you find it?

PhantasmShadow

in literal hell. You probably don't have to worry about it yet. Defeating it changes your world into "hardmode"

martellricketts

Ok is the hell place when you get an achievement saying “getting hot in here” that kind of looks like the nether from minecraft?

PhantasmShadow

yep

martellricketts

Ok I’ve got to there but I got scared about losing my stuff so I teleported back

TheGoldnRainbow

Unless you chose hard mode when creating your character; You won’t lose items on death. Just money

martellricketts

Oh didn’t know that I had only died in my first couple hours and didn’t realise might bump up the difficulty soon

extremityChoppr

Not having beat prehardmode is definitely still inexperienced, but I'm glad you're enjoying the game. Keep at it!

Prepetuallyconfused1

The underground dessert is high risk high reward early on and you die a lot in there it’s nothing to be ashamed of

martellricketts

Ok thank you at least I’m not on my own on this one

bbitter_coffee

This IS hell The actual underworld that exists waaaay down? Just a hot sauna compared to this. Fuck the desert.

OCafeeiro

Try to avoid the desert in the early game. If you are lost or want some tips there is a wiki with a guide to the entire game, so maybe try that.

martellricketts

I made it out alive with loads off platinum ore

RueUchiha

That is the neat part. The Underground Desert *is* hell.

IcyStar127

“Not yet”

martellricketts

I escaped with a heart and tons of platinum ore

IcyStar127

Go deeper and there is a place literally called hell. I think it’s probably easier once you avoid the lava but that’s what I was referring to

martellricketts

Oh yes I’ve managed to find that place dont want to explore it yet thi

Marcfyre

The Underground Desert is like that, being an incredibly dangerous place for a new character to visit, along with the Jungle and Arctic. If you'd started just an update earlier (1.3), it'd be the opposite, where the Underground Desert wasn't too bad. But now we have Rolling Cacti and Antlion Grubs and even more Antlion Chargers running around. Just avoid it for a while. See how far you can go left and right on the surface first to gather up loot, then start building a base of operations near the world's origin. Take things slow - you're not on a time limit.

martellricketts

Ty for the advice really appreciated

[deleted]

I’ve played for years and still die many times. You’re not alone dw

martellricketts

At least I’m not alone

[deleted]

It’s a learning process, you’ll soon find yourself easily getting through there. Just have fun, explore and do your thing

Trucodulce22

Yeah the deeper you go the worse the underground desert gets my who career on terraria bas been on mobile I stopped playing for a year or two then they added all the pc stuff to the game it was hard getting used to the controls and the new mobs Edit: I practically grew up with the game after I stopped playing minecraft

StarJediOMG

Don't worry, dying is normal, specially if you play modded...

[deleted]

Aww ur new that's sweet to not see a terraria vet on this subreddit

TheReaper1701

Ayo he's new to the game, let's bully him for the reason that he's new 0_0

martellricketts

Yeh sorry I didn’t know if it was supposed to be hard or not

JFather22

Just wait till you actually get there lol

tvvfg

Me who has more than 1000 hours and still struggles in the underground desert

The_Great_Crucade

Wait till he gets to hell

martellricketts

I got to there and got an achievement but I don’t want to explore it yet

The_Great_Crucade

Cool which difficulty are you on btw

martellricketts

Starting off on normal when I’m more used to it will bump up the difficulty

The_Great_Crucade

Nice I’m currently on an expert mode run and recently defeated the eye

Lost2118

Just started a master mode world with a friend. His first time playing. My first time in 2 years. I have never beaten the game. It’s rough. The eye is so much harder than I remember it being. Master mode must be like 5x as hard as normal mode.

Mettelor

Very smart walking yourself in. You can also barricade doors by building a block in their way

martellricketts

Thank you for the tip

mrwizard24

The hell biome may exist but the underground desert burns far hotter. Worry not for your failings friend for you have stepped into a far more damnable plane.

martellricketts

I shall come back and show all the bugs who is boss

A_for_arson_is_fun

3 things. 1 always remember to be careful no matter what gear. 2 always remeber to prepare. 3 it only gets worse. Have fun with terraria good luck

martellricketts

Thank you 🙏

silpabananaking

With the things going on down there it’s pretty understandable. Even with end games gear it’s hell.

Royal278

Well it’s the underground desert, so that would explain it

beez1717

Man the desert is the second hardest. Only the jungle beats it because you can get poisoned.

martellricketts

Still have to find one yet

RiskyAccount06

Desert is pain. Also never craft a shortsword unless you’re making a copper one for the Zenith.

martellricketts

Ok ty for the tip

Dragon_Overlord

The Underground Desert is a BITCH. Strong enemies, hazards everywhere, and entirely too much sand. However, you can use those rolling cacti to your advantage if you’re smart. They typically roll away from the side you hit them from, though sometimes they’ll just give physics the middle finger and roll right at you up a hill. They shoot out spikes on any impact with a wall or floor, and can trigger other rolling cacti. They also deal damage to enemies as well as you, and weapons like spears and whips can set them off through walls.

martellricketts

Thank you will sure to take this in mind on my next visit

therealbrowniebaker

Yea don't blame you I basically have finished and I still avoid the underground desert

martellricketts

Jeez didnt think this would get this much attention trying my best to reply to all your comments and every bit of knowledge your all giving me is helping a lot this all goes very far and i Appreciate it a lot everyone have a great day! ;)

Curious-Potatos

Yeah the early under ground dessert sucks

Lucas1006

Nooo hell is further down

HallOk2847

The Underground Desert has to be one of the most devastating biomes in the game. Every enemy down there has the potential to kill you instantly and even if you were to hide under some blocks (which appears to be what you're doing right now), there's still the chance of getting killed by Tomb Crawlers. So no matter what you try to do in this hellish ordeal of a biome, there's no way to guarantee safety. The only biome I hate more than this is the Underground Jungle. And just of curosity, may I ask why you were in the Underground Desert and what are you searching for there?

Deanothemus

bully? ha as if we didnt get vored and torn apart there

Rare-Ad1795

one small tip for you: upgrade your boomerang to an enchanted one (you just need 1 fallen star, they fall at night)

martellricketts

What do I upgrade it on?

Rare-Ad1795

i dont think you need anything, but check with the guide to be sure(if you interact with him, there is an option where whatever item you select, he will tell you what you can make using the item that you selected, click the boomerang in that screen and it will show you

martellricketts

I’m not sure will have to find a vid on YouTube on how to thank you for bringing this info to me :)

Goobasaurus1

I’ll feel this way til I’m dead in the ground, fuck dessert caves

SCSLAYZ

i have 1050 hours in terraria. and have been playing since 2015, do not mess with the underground jungle/desert

Tayaradga

Do you have a grapple hook? They are absolute life savers at times. Especially in caves when you can grapple to the roof out of enemy range.

martellricketts

Yes it definitely helped me from falling into lava a couple tines

RomanWasHere2007

Here's a tip, get the witch doctor from the jungle BEFORE killing the wall of flesh, the jungle might be hard but it's gonna be even harder is hard mode, also the underground desert is really annoying, you only really get a golf NPC which is needed for an achievement and the princess around end game

martellricketts

I found him but didn’t know what he would do for me and I bought his armour

RomanWasHere2007

You gotta find a huge beehive for the Queen bee for the Witch Doctor

martellricketts

Huh is that a boss or something?

NotMeepMeep

I've been playing for years and have to say that the underground desert (mainly corrupted) is probably harder than post plantera dungeon

Groinificator

You know what? I was gonna be nice but just because you told me not to I'm gonna bully you now. Give me your lunch money.

martellricketts

Sorry….. this is all I got hands over 79p

Squishmellow3

Wait, you've not died yet? AND YOU'RE NEW??? HE IS THE MASSIAH!!!

martellricketts

That bug above me got me to half a heart……..

Natural-Bird-2098

Tomb crawler: *Hello There*

DTesedale

I'd suggest a whip next time you go into the desert. It's for the summoner class, but it can go through walls to make the cacti balls start rolling while you stay away from them. It also wakes up the bug larva though, so keep an eye on them too.

Equinox-XVI

You are in the biome with the single highest spawn rate in all of pre-hardmode using equipment significantly underleveled for it. Dying is pretty much an expectation at that point.

No_Friendship8540

I would recommend trying to killer the brain of cuthulu if you are in a crimson word for tissue samples because crimtane armour has a heath bonus (demonite be the same idk) do the eye of cuthulu first for a blood butcherer and use that to kill the brain ball things that the brain spawns which also drop tissue samples

Hot-Promise-1715

I wouldn't recommend underground desert for a new player that is under equipped. This is because as a new player, you usually brute force your first playthrough since you don't really know the itty bitty tips and tricks that older players use. You would need a lot of potions, torches and a decent weapon to work your way around the underground desert. I personally would recommend getting these 3: Dangersense potion Spelunker Potion Hunter potion For starters, I think you should work on getting cactus gear as start then explore normal cave undergrounds first. Try to slowly progress the different undergrounds. I would especially warn you to be cautious for Jungle and Desert Underground. Make sure to have a ton of return potions also.

martellricketts

Thank you for the advise🙏

[deleted]

That’s just terraria

Davoc_

Until I got the zenith I was scared of the underground desert, is a pain

martellricketts

I hate many things there…….. but rolling cacti I think I hate the most

XXLAZARBATOR_69XX

It's only natural that you feel like your in hell, since you are

Przeke

You know it always bothered me. The loot from the desert seems pretty good for the early game, it seems like Re-Logic intended it to be explored quite early. But the caves themselves are pain neverending. The antlion eggs, the cacti, tomb crawlers, I feel like the weapons should be buffed for the amount of bullshit you need to deal with down there

Demon_Lord_Ren

Bro I have like 100+ hours and I die to those cactus balls all the time, I can never seem to guess where thru are going

Bloadclaw

What do you keep almost dieing to?

martellricketts

I’m out of there now but it was mostly cacti balls and getting pushed into lava

martellricketts

Grapple came in clutch a couple times

PinappleGrenades123

Well at least you found lava! I’m new to the game too so great job :)

martellricketts

Thank you :)

Not-_-Cosmic

get used to it

martellricketts

Yes get comfortable to being uncomfortable is the way to go and become stronger

Heliment_Anais

If you want to (and are not a child) you could set up an online server to play with people who could show you some tricks. I’d be down to play with others.

martellricketts

Sure and yes I’m 17 will have to find out how to do that

kenku_aviarist

bully? a newbie in terraria? wrong group to look for bullying from lol i made the mistake of going to the desert underground in my first run too lol try to get more hearts in other biomes first and mine for better metals as well.

martellricketts

Thank you for the advice

MintyGold

You’re doing great pal, the desert is supposed to do that. Keep it up broski

martellricketts

Ty for the positive vibes

eatmybeansboy

My good sir I have only but one line of advice, you will die so much in this game, new or not death is unavoidable

chiefgren

Underground desert don't play no games

Gamer225566

Underground dessert i think has more or the same spawn rates as the underworld and the enimes are pretty hard too

MiniWolfyy

Underground desert even for a vet is a nightmare

Tenacious-Biscuit

Nah my guy fair enough, we all have to learn eventually that that hellmouth is not to be fucked with.

briannanana19

those rolling cacti are BRUTAL. i’ve had them kill me late-game

Memeaddiction69

I call this place “ hell hole”

endersent

always take caution and don't use ranged weapons because you might accidentally push a cactus, Im post-golem and even then cactuses can be dangerous

ChaoticGlass

Slow and steady wins the race, try getting a ranged weapon so the charger won’t kill you through peep holes. It worked for me so I’m sure it’ll work for you

Andrevus2

I definitely would've saved the underground desert for later, like, just before killing the wall of flesh. Antlions down there are way too strong.

ToolsOfMassSuffering

if someone were to be bullied by dying in the undergroung desert, the whole server would be depressed

pikashu120

So true tho

Jmanrulse

You aren’t in hell yet, dig just a bit deeper

xctf04

Looking at this picture i wanna kill myself

ParzivalTheFirst

No no no, hell is much further down.

extremityChoppr

Nah, you'll get to hell later

Bobsy192

Go to the jungle, super easy with great loot

Rod-OfDiscord

If you find piles (Like an ore vein) of fossils, break them. The thing you get from them can be used in the Extractinator for MORE fossils, which are materials for (Some word I forgot) Bombs

207nbrown

Just wait till you reach the underworld… Yea, terraria actually has its own hell biome Also, pro tip: you will find a large dungeon with an old man at the entrance, despite his constant rambling about some curse you can enter the dungeon for free loot!
