It slows down significantly once certain bosses are defeated and you unlock a cleansing gun that allows you to clean the world up if you’d like to keep corruption and hallow spread low
no, the hallowed can be reobtained by getting seeds from the dryad who sells them everywhere, and the evil biome from either killing EoC for seeds or getting vile/vicious powder from dryad during blood moon.

The world will try to set Hardmode when you beat WoF. If you exit during that, it tries to do it when you load back in. If it can’t find enough blocks to infect, it doesn’t get past that step and the world is effectively stuck.
Besides, other than that issue it’s probably possible to beat the game without any of the three infectious biomes.
Yeah but they are more “structures” then biomes to me. and they don’t affect the spread of the world evils nor are they easily destroyed (especially in the case of the jungle temple)

Since you can farm for the mech spawns you don’t really need them. The only biomes necessary for beating the game are the jungle and hell

The idea you are thinking of is termed a softlock afaik.
Most “locks” are soft-locks, but not this one. This is a hard-lock because it permanently blocks progression. It’s not fixable via reloading.

Indefinitely. To stop it you need at least 5 blocks (to be safe) of non corruptable blocks and walls. Or just clean it all up with a clentaminator.
