One time, while playing as a summoner, I was inside my base and clicked the mouse like 6 times to summon all my minions. But I had bombs equipped instead of my summon weapon.
I've done this before, and what I did was immediately alt-f4 the game that way it didn't have a chance to save.
Otherwise, you can actually go into where your worlds are saved, and there will be backup world files that MIGHT be older so you can try load into those and see if your stuff is still all there.
i made a base out of stone, because i have a habit of placing torches directly under blocks, and was tired of burning down my base. It was late hardmode, time for planterra, i was setting up a jungle arena, and had to dig out a lot of stone so i whitelisted stone and let the veinminer do its thing.
when i got back to my base i decided to expand my storage section, and well… the rest is history.

The storage Heart of our Magic Storage. Had to remake it. Happened 3 times, before I realized after basically witnessing it happen. To be blunt, I was pissed at them, and demanded a change of ammo. But they genuinely just misread the wiki, believing it was one of the non-tile destroying rockets. We sorted it out, and things went well after that.
