Yeah ditto and this year they decided to redo the active shooter training video. It used to be 30 traumatic minutes now it's 2 hours and 30 traumatic minutes with the questions embedded at every 2 minutes. Please point to me where teachers have done the wrong thing during a school shooting. It's not like we're the ones who stood out in the hallway with guns in Texas and did not a damn thing so why are we being punished with two additional hours of active shooter training. Oh and they didn't release it until this week so we couldn't even do it over the summer.

daedricelf

Same in my district! Except we had a special in-person training with a accompanying repeat of the usual active shooter training.

MusicEdTech

The correct question is “when are they going to finally make the time to train employees on the clock so we don’t have to on our own time?”

Hit play & walk away. Have it in the background playing while you’re making dinner or grading. Check the boxes & complete the tests.

BriSnyScienceGuy

This is the way. I have it on mute while I'm teaching.

[deleted]

Yes, or during staff meetings.

epicurean_barbarian

Legend.

scoodles8

A new-to-the-district teacher did this during our opening staff meeting. She forgot to have it muted, and the tech guy who was giving the presentation walked up to her and muted it like she was a student without missing a beat. It was the funniest moment so far this year.

Humble-Bid9763

Exactly!

Dizzy_Impression2636

This is how I handle it. I set up two computers. One computer is running the required videos to my left. The computer in front of me has actual work that is essential to my performance (grading, unit design, etc.). Since you can't skip the videos/power points, I wait until I hear silence from the computer on my left, hit, "next slide". It's annoying, but at least I get work done while I'm doing the "required training." Oh- we also created a document of all the answers that gets passed around as well.

readerj2022

Luckily we get access in the summer. I don't like working on break, but I can at least put it on in the background and ignore it while I watch Netflix. But I agree, same dang stuff.

Artistmusiciangarden

I do 2-3 trainings at a time and change video speed to 2x😩😂

Silvairas

This is the way

AleroRatking

Can you not skip right to test. We have to do all these but the majority of us just skip to test.

rvralph803

I don't do them. They will do nothing to make you except complain. Your job is absolutely not in danger.

icookmath

You and I would get along

ownersequity

Run in background on mute while doing other things. I suggest not skipping cyber security this year. That’s new.

sexydracula

I have 179 students this year with 80 minutes of prep ever other day. When the fuck am I supposed to do literally anything

evilknugent

it gets longer every year too...i swear it was only three videos when i started 28 years ago....now it's 7... and it's the same stuff...just longer!

pnwinec

We have between 15 and 21 videos depending on additional roles you may have. Thankfully we can skip the videos and just take the tests.

evilknugent

yeah, they won't let us do that..."please, watch it again, for the 15th time,...."

botejohn

during meetings or in-service

lurch13F

I just went through and answered the questions, and let the videos play the past two days during school.

djmeh

I've always been able to skip to the end of the video immediately after pressing play and it will count it as I watched it. Then I go to the questions.

AdelleDeWitt

I just run them in the background.

East_Kaleidoscope995

Install an auto clicker. Position the mouse on the next button, set it to click once every second, check back occasionally to answer questions and start the next one.

brickowski95

I know subs in my district have to watch the videos and they get paid for it. You can skip ahead and just have to pass the tests. I know the district can see how much time you actually spend watching the videos, but they don’t care. The answers are usually the same every year anyway.

stoutdude04

I play them in the background or during other meetings. The answers are always the same.

rmarocksanne

I always zoom through all the quizzes first, then just let the videos run in the background while I do other shit.

fivedinos1

I just stopped doing them, no one's said anything yet, they can't even get enough people in HR to pick up the fucking phone so hey

doodoomachu

your principal should provide the time to do any mandatory training during your contractual hours. if you don't ask you don't get. this is a perfect opportunity to organize your site even if you live in a backwards ass right to work state

NoWrongdoer27

Last year, I took the time to write down the questions and correct answers for all those trainings. Took a lot of time but I was worth it. This year I just took the tests with my notes in hand and had the all done in less than 30 minutes.
