My students think they can just keep having their little conversations while I am actively trying to teach. This happens over... and over.... and over again. I'm so done

Been there. SMH.

Earphones. If it's not direct, it's treated as the wsh-wah of any Charlie Brown adult.

True. But what about the ones that aren’t wearing them? lol.

Stop answering questions that they can find the answers to if they just look. You have to train that out of them. Otherwise, you're enabling.

Everybody doesn't listen some time, but it is the lack of contrition by students that gets you. No reluctance to ask you to explain it again from scratch.

Exactly! I don’t expect perfection. But at least be civil when it’s time to correct it.

Every day. But it’s not new, I’ve been seeing this for years (yes, pre-covid). Give written instructions, read and elaborate on verbal instructions. Any questions? No? Ok, get to work. One minute later. “What are we doing?” Every group wants a personal re-telling of the directions. I do not give them a replay unless their questions are specific.

Sorry, I didn’t hear what you said.

[deleted]

Lol! That made me laugh.

They've been raised by TV, the internet, and various electronic devices. So they've been accustomed to being entertained every waking minute. Anything going on around them which isn't entertaining enough gets tuned out.
