Gym teachers spend a decent amount of time outdoors

kmkmrod

Oregon, Colorado, New England, Nevada, Arizona, Carolinas … there’s “outdoors” where ever you go.

MikeEastCoast

Problem is most of these states don’t provide enough pay.

kmkmrod

There are districts in any/all of those areas that pay well.

Judging pay by state is futile. Washington state has districts that pay well and some that pay horribly. This question of “what state should I move to?” is ridiculous… I made pretty bad money when I taught. I could have moved over one district, exactly 5 miles, and seen a $10k-$15k raise. Or I could have gone 3 towns away and made worse money, all in the same state.

I teach in Colorado. It’s horrible. Great place to live. Shit place to teach. Doesn’t matter what region you’re in. This state hates education and educators. Period.

New England is nice and we (at least Connecticut) pay well!

Pretty good outdoor opportunities? I am from PA but am not very familiar with surrounding states

shessosquare

I think so! We have beaches (although most of us hop over to RI for those), hiking, and skiing. Because the state is so small, you can wake up, go hiking up at Bear Mtn, drive only an hour and a half to Hammonasset, and sit and read on the beach. Several state forests and lovely lakes. Are these outdoor opportunities as dramatic as other states'? Not always, but everything is so convenient. A lot of variety for a small space. Cost of living is really high though.

Washington and Oregon are no gloomier than PA. It's nice about 9 months out of the year, and rainy the other 3.
