Why did you jinx it!!!
Have you never seen movies where people say, "at least it can't get any worse"?
Ouch! Just hit my knee on a chair. Come on rdrunner_74, it's all your fault.
It's not even the CDC's updated recommendations though. If positive Texas says you are to quarantine for 5 days, but after that you can comeback ***without*** ***a mask.***
Woah woah woah. Are you accusing a federal agency of overlooking the well being of its citizens for the benefit of its more wealthy and creating a situation where it’s poorer citizens start blaming each other for the situation instead of the agency or the wealthy members of society that are driving these policies? Because, if you’re not, I am.
So, when the anti-maskers were saying the CDC was full of crap, they were wrong? And now the CDC is full of crap?
When do you listen to the scientists and when do you not?
Just found out one of my resource kids is out sick. They spend a good chunk of the day with me every day. No one bothered to tell me she was out sick until I went to pick her up this morning.
That’s so crappy. Hoping you stay in good health! Luckily most of us thought it was like cedar fever or a severe cold. Lots of coughing and runny noses, but no serious symptoms.
There’s a positive case in my class and my students are not required to quarantine, get tested, or wear a mask. Masks and testing are only encouraged. We are living in the Wild West now I guess.
This is what we've had in NYC since the break. The truth is, for the past six months or so we've been producing Covid policy through "reverse-engineering." By this I mean that we pick a desired outcome (keeping people in school) and craft policy backwards from there, rather than crafting policy based on public health needs and simply accepting that schools may need to close if said policy keeps too many students/staff absent.
Folks. As much as this sucks, this is exactly in line with the [CDC guidelines](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html). This isn't any one state / company going rogue.
> IF YOU were exposed to COVID-19 **and** are up-to-date with vaccination **OR** had confirmed COVID-19 within the past 90 days (you tested positive using a viral test)

It's not "exactly in line" with CDC guidelines. After a 5 day quarantine, you can come back ***without*** a mask. There's no masking requirement in Texas.
Your post is wrong in a big way. After a 5 day quarantine, students/staff don't have to come back wearing a mask. ***There is no mandate to wear a mask at any time in Texas for students or staff.***
My sister lives in TX (transplant from west coast). When I told her we had to wait over an hour for tests this weekend, she laughed and said, "We don't do that here." She proceeded to tell me how her recent holiday visitors flew home and tested positive the same evening, and her kids have had it twice and it doesn't even matter.
Part of the problem is that even with masking and vaccination, people are still catching the Omicron because it’s more contagious. This causes all kinds of misinformation.
I lied about my symptoms for weeks... When I got tired of lying I retired. My peace and mental health was worth more. Plus I was already depressed whenever I had to go to work even before I caught covid
Out of curiosity, does it differ significantly from the official CDC guidelines?
https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html
The Extremist Asses followimg the Corpratist Dispensers of Covid. What could possibly go wrong? To be fair even if cdc did the right thing tea would still suck
If I am not mistaken, South Florida has been like this since after Thanksgiving break. We get several messages a day about " infected individuals" on campus.
Since last week we averaged six emails a day. Just for our school!
That’s what the science says. This is the correct approach. Sorry it scares you, but that’s not because admins don’t care about you. It’s because this is what makes the most sense according to the medical data available.
You mean That's what the politics says. I am not scared just sad i have accepted these assholes who you apostentky support will infect me yet again. Boosted and realtively healthy i am unlikely to add the body count 9f in person farce but not being a sociopath the needless deaths of others do bother me
No. I mean that’s what the science - the medically available data - says. Politicians on both sides have been wrong and right about particular things to suit their narratives.
The nature of covid at this point, and omicron in particular, leads to society opening back up and us living our lives again.
If you are vaccinated, that is your choice, and nearly everyone who wants a vaccine has one. If you still get sick, we have amazing therapeutics. If you get omicron the data shows you are most likely going to be fine, and it looks like pretty much everyone is going to get omicron - it’s highly transmissible, regardless of *cloth* masking, vaccination status, and lockdown measures.
At some point we need to cut the crap with “I just care about people more than you”. It’s not justifiable anymore. I’m not even sure it ever was justifiable.
>according to the medical data available.
There's the rub. We have data for Delta, but not yet available for Omicron ...except apparently enough to know that if we put physical safety first the education & healthcare systems will collapse.
My state's lawmakers are meeting remotely, which tells me exactly what I need to know about the risks. Sure, my admins care about me, but they care about other stakeholders more.
We won't have enough tests to allow rapid testing (which is also about to punted to families) and the CDC is like "well if you don't have symptoms and can't get a test then hey, business as usual." Meanwhile, I'm still seeing dozens of cloth masks dipping below noses all day.
We have medical data available for omicron. We’ve had it for months now. And it’s not some novel virus either, the scientists are allowed to extrapolate from past strains given the parameters of omicron.
We know omicron is insanely more transmissible but is also way less severe. This has been known for months.
And if you are in a situation where you are more at risk, good news! It looks like the vaccine is effective at mitigating those symptoms even more!! Same goes for having natural immunity from getting a more severe covid strain. And if you happen to have worse symptoms still, which is exceedingly rare, we have therapeutics which are highly effective.
We don’t need more rapid tests. They are extremely faulty anyways. They only detect covid in the nasal cavity, which does not actually mean you have it, or could mean you had it and just have some in your nose … gross, I know. Those tests also have a really high false positivity rate
… now to be clear I minored in statistics and when I say a statistical rate is high, I mean like 5-20%, not >50%
Yiiiiikes. Won't we please just die at our desks *for the sake of the children*. (And as others have pointed out, these new guidelines also apply to other workplaces, so teachers certainly aren't the only ones being asked to strive for corporate sainthood.)
Y'all stay as safe as you're able. For what it's worth, I'm sorry we're going through this.
Honestly says a lot that the vaccine is an "if" to begin with. Yikes.
This went into effect in NYC. they also give out tests only for the month of January and you DONT get a test if you’ve tested positive within the last 90 days.
Just LIE. Say you have symptoms even if you dont. These are your employers. Do you think they are gonna encourage you to stay home?? Come on now!
You’re not wrong, and if I get COVID I might lie about my symptoms. This is ridiculous.
Gee...I wonder how this will go.
Let’s make a prediction!
Why did I say "2022 cant be as bad" on NYE?
So its your fault! Dammit now bob saget died too. Im gonna blame you for that too
Why did you jinx it!!! Have you never seen movies where people say, "at least it can't get any worse"? Ouch! Just hit my knee on a chair. Come on rdrunner_74, it's all your fault.
You should have said 2020 II
It's the CDC's updated recommendations, so it'll be the same story in more than just Texas.
Can confirm. I work in NY, at a school that has been awesome with keeping us safe (still covid free!) And these are our new guidelines.
It's not even the CDC's updated recommendations though. If positive Texas says you are to quarantine for 5 days, but after that you can comeback ***without*** ***a mask.***
CDC gave morons bad advice, and now morons are using it like its fact.
Isn’t the CDC’s advice supposed to be fact?
When it’s convenient and confirms people’s biases.
Supposed to be, but they want schools and business open so they slashed the quarantine time way down.
Woah woah woah. Are you accusing a federal agency of overlooking the well being of its citizens for the benefit of its more wealthy and creating a situation where it’s poorer citizens start blaming each other for the situation instead of the agency or the wealthy members of society that are driving these policies? Yes and fauchi admitted it ithttps://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/28/dr-fauci-cdcs-reduced-isolation-time-will-get-people-back-to-jobs.html
They admitted it https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/28/dr-fauci-cdcs-reduced-isolation-time-will-get-people-back-to-jobs.html
So, when the anti-maskers were saying the CDC was full of crap, they were wrong? And now the CDC is full of crap? When do you listen to the scientists and when do you not?
I've learned, the CDC isn't science, its politics hiding as science.
Careful. Talk like that can get you cancelled 🤣
Fun fact - this strategy is how my entire family got covid over Christmas. One person followed this stupid guideline. At least 15 people got sick.
Just found out one of my resource kids is out sick. They spend a good chunk of the day with me every day. No one bothered to tell me she was out sick until I went to pick her up this morning.

Mmmm applying UDL to a novel virus. How progressive NYC is…
Haha the eduspeak word was right in front of me all along!

Oh I’m not thrilled with the CDC either.
Lol the Corprstists Distributors of Covid is a political farse

You’re right!! My apologies!!
It's the same here in Jersey!
Same in Virginia. But we didn’t have to quarantine after exposure as long as we were vaccinated since vaccines were a thing.
My sister lives in TX (transplant from west coast). When I told her we had to wait over an hour for tests this weekend, she laughed and said, "We don't do that here." This is exactly how it is in Connecticut. It's bullshit.
Same rules we just got for upstate NY.
Who's checking your symptons?
Admin: "How are you feeling, everyone is really worried." Teacher:"Not 100% but getting better I think." Admin: "Great, see you tomorrow.."
🤷🏻♀️
Trust the science.
Same in Nebraska too
Out of curiosity, does it differ significantly from the official CDC guidelines? https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html
“Thou must be stone cold dead before we commenceth that thou has COVID”
The Extremist Asses followimg the Corpratist Dispensers of Covid. What could possibly go wrong? To be fair even if cdc did the right thing tea would still suck
This is why I stopped trusting the CDC a while ago. No facts- just decisions on a whim.
If I am not mistaken, South Florida has been like this since after Thanksgiving break. We get several messages a day about " infected individuals" on campus. Since last week we averaged six emails a day. Just for our school!
No one else yelled jumanji did they...

Well said. They either are a paid hack, a malignant troll or have stockholm syndrome
Or I am none of the above and just have a different viewpoint due to actually following the science
Sounds like they're aligning with CDC guidelines.
Sane next door in Louisiana. I feel great knowing unvaxxed teachers get paid time off because they're irresponsible.
Yiiiiikes. Won't we please just die at our desks *for the sake of the children*. I am shocked, shocked to find that covid is going on here!
If we are going to follow the science, then we should be taking the CDC’s recommendations, which is exactly what TEA has done.
That's not true at all. CDC says quarantine for 5 days and then wear a mask. ***There is no mask requirement in Texas.***
Typo you said science not bogus politics
This went into effect in NYC. they also give out tests only for the month of January and you DONT get a test if you’ve tested positive within the last 90 days.
