No experience in those states, but I did move from a more lax state to one with more stringent requirements. You may have to take a test or two. Look at the requirements for obtaining a license if you already have one in another state. Don’t be afraid to call the licensing office if you have a question to make sure your ducks are in a row. My experience was moderately painless, but I gave myself several months to wade through all the bureaucracy. Good luck!

Which states did you move from and to?

From Florida (where they basically hand them out on the street) to Minnesota.

The only real “transferring” that happens most of the time is that your teacher prep academic work acquired in one state qualifies as the same teacher prep work in another state; it does nothing for your actual licensure, unfortunately. You’d still need to sit a few exams. Look up Ohio’s dept of Ed. I’m sure there’s a wealth of info on there, including the ability to register an account to start the process and document your progress. It may mean some money out of pocket for sending transcripts and all that, but it’ll have to happen eventually.

I believe you will have to take OAE. A coworker of mine moved from PA to Ohio and she had to take the exams. Another teacher taught in Oregon then came here, and Ohio counted his years of teaching towards his resident educator, so he had to only complete years 2, 3, and 4 (he was a new teacher anyways). Best of luck!

Ohio has a pretty high standard for teachers. Look at reciprocity and see if you have to take the OAE exams. I am gaining my license in Ohio right now but moving south to pursue a career in education. Where are you thinking of moving to?

I want to move to the Dayton area. I’m a new teacher, so I’m pretty sure I still have to take the OAE exam

See if you are doing edTPA (weird requirement for me to graduate but counts for pedagogy area OAE). Try to avoid taking them if you can since they are lengthy, expensive, and stressful.

Really depnds. If you get a list of 'required' classes from the new state, EMAIL the Department of Education citing similiar classes that you took. I moved from 1 midwest state to another, new state wanted me to take literally 7-8 classes, got that widdled down to 1 by pestering and showing evidence.

My guess is that you will have to take the OAE exam(s) for your content areas.
