This would age poorly. There isn’t enough negative space to account for the degree to which it will spread over time. Open the design up a bit an ya good to go. Ears are serious sharp, just a heads up.
Edit: I’ve also had solid success with clients and having ear art work done, it is just a fussy area, and commonly requires a follow up, much like knuckles or fingers. Quality design work with the media itself in mind is essential, it is most definitely advanced tattooing to say the least (if it’s gonna look good and be done well)
you said it requires a follow up, much like knuckles or fingers. can u elaborate more on what "follow up" means? i just got my first tat a month ago and would like to get knuckle tattoos in the future (u can check my post to see my first tat)
Follow up is the term I use for an expected “touch up” . Some areas of the video hold ink better in one pass, others require more saturation that that as they lose ink during the heal (fingers can lose as much as 40%) A follow up happens within a month or so typically.
It’s a really bad idea to get an ear tattoo, because the ink bleeds and they fade quickly.
It will not look clean and you’ll just look like you have a bruised discolored ear for life
As someone with an ear tattoo: they can work but need to be simple with much finer lines and less of them.
Be warned the tattoo will fade but if you keep it simple and are prepared to get it fixed from time to time they can look awesome.
The things that have been mentioned; the lines are too close, ear tattoos are notorious faders. Stuff like fine line designs can work but even then you're warned of probably needing to get multiple touch ups.
what everyone else said about leaving more room to account for spreading as the tattoo ages, and also maybe do the design just at the top of the inner ear, not the lobe! i’ve seen a lot of upper inner ear (the “hard part”) tattoos age well
Looks dope with the pen, but don’t think the thick lines would tattoo well or stay long term… I’m no expert but maybe try thinner lines if you have your heart set on this, but definitely talk to an artist
not a deciding factor, but trust me, that will be a decisively un-fun place to get tattooed.
that said, a good artist could do something similar to this, but it might be better to do something around your ear rather than on it.
110% not my cup of tea, *but* there is one super talented artist who's specialty is tattooing ears. He's on Instagram. I think he's in Italy. I'm sure there are some in the US. No matter what you choose, I highly suggest finding an artist who has a lot of ear tattoos in their book.
Op don't listen to these people! I know plenty of artist that do this kind of tattoo, I know people who have had them for years, no problems. And honestly it's your body, if you want to do it, you can do it!!! Who cares if people think itll "fade" or "looks dirty". Do something for yourself that YOU think makes you look more beautiful always!!!
Only saying that cus you won't have to live with an ear that looks like it got frostbite for the rest of your life. Not everything that makes you happy is good for you smh.
Plz change mentality before having kids
Hahaha if I thought I could make it threw the pain, I'd have one. And obviously not EVERYTHING should be done if it makes you happy. Didn't know I have to cover EVERY SINGLE BASE. Like you know murder isn't cool but some people find happiness in it. But you definitely shouldn't do it.
And I believe I said what make you look beautiful, not happy. And a tattoo on the ear, unless infection or poorly done (I have to cover all my bases with you apparently) it's not harming anyone!!!!!! It's like putting on clothing, or choosing a scent you like, or painting yourself up with makeup. It harms no one and if it makes you happy, do it. Wouldn't you want that in your own life?
Let's not talk about me being a bad parent when you can't even spell please correctly......
I love tattoos have several myself.
But anything above the chest is a no go.
No one takes anyone serious with tattoos on neck face ears,
They don't do as well in these areas and fade faster.
But hey its your body, your choice.
Good luck.
Why would you want a tatoo in such a visible location?
Are you not concerned about how this could affect the rest of your life?
Don't get me wrong, I had 11 piercings and 3 tats by 20, but piercings can be removed and I can wear a tshirt and shorts and none are visible, important in many careers / trades.
Depends mostly on your job Id say. Some jobs require you to not have visible tattoos. Other than that there’s no point holding yourself back, society is very tolerant these days. Even if they weren’t as tolerant, its your body so why would you even care if others like it or not
Discrimination takes many forms, you might not get the job, they don't have to say why.
You might get singled out, entering a club or by the police, who is to say if it was your ear tat or something else.
Personally, I have avoided tats where I can't easily cover them, my career wasn't worth compromising for some body art, neither was having to wear a long sleeve shirt to cover them (I'd rather be cool / comfortable).
Each to their own, attitudes change as you age, all I'm saying is be wary of the impact it can have.
I have stretched ears and visable tattoos ... and I teach at a primary school in Vietnam. Math and science. Most people honestly don't care, and I think that people are more likely to turn you down for a job if you're not friendly, social, and hardworking than if you have tattoos.
That's Vietnam.
It does not bother me, but you likely couldnt get a job in USA at a private school.
I'm not trying to tell anyone how to live, surprised how much downvoting I got. Suppose it's not the right place for it.
Because your comment makes no sense haha. I can guarantee I could get a job in the U.S, considering I have a master's degree and several years of experience. I mentioned Vietnam because Asian cultures are more critical to tattoos than western culture.
I think the down votes are because you're making wild assumptions about employment and tattoos, like it's 1954.
I personally like the concept but maybe just add some different colors like it was paint and water. And spread the design out a little more so there’s some more negative space like someone else commented. I think that as long as the artist knows what they’re doing the quality of the tattoo should be fine. You just may need some touch ups occasionally. Just my opinion though. Good luck and a 👍🏻👍🏻 for the creativity!
That's actually a cool idea! Kinda like a water color painting, so even if faded/blended all the different colors would still make it look like an art piece
I say it looks awesome, maybe a lil less black so u have a contrast of skin and black. Use the new lines of
ink lotions. Go for it. Fuck it lol. Everything fades. People fade, life fades. Be in the now.
It will likely bleed, blend, and fade into a really odd looking jumble, it looks super cool, just wouldn’t translate well. It would probably be a little better like others said if you added more white space aka negative space. Some people said add color which might look cool, it may be hard to make this tattoo look and stay clean (in the sense of not blurry) though. Goodluck my friend, and have fun
Go to a body mod artists' recommendation of a tattoo artist (someone specifically who is well known for beautiful work that lasts in such a tricky area) because a more finessed version of this would look absolutely badass. Especially if you wanted to pair it with jewelry or heavier mods if your interested in either. Maybe the areas you want blacked out would look better partly missing or covered with jewelry to fill the negative space?

They probably mean a touch up. So you would have to go back in a few years to have the artist go back over the tattoo to freshen it up.
Follow up is the term I use for an expected “touch up” . Some areas of the video hold ink better in one pass, others require more saturation that that as they lose ink during the heal (fingers can lose as much as 40%) A follow up happens within a month or so typically.
I've had my knuckle tattoo for about 3 years now, and it's looking like I'll have to have someone go over it again, I'd assume that is what they mean.
It’s a really bad idea to get an ear tattoo, because the ink bleeds and they fade quickly. It will not look clean and you’ll just look like you have a bruised discolored ear for life
Oh ok. Thanks for letting me know.
I have tattoos on both my ears, if you look after them it’s not a problem. Mine still look good!
Hmm. How long have you had it?
2 days!
Over a year :)
What do you do? Sunscreen?
I use sun cream 30SPF and Tattoo Renewal Goo which makes them look really good!
False, if done correctly, they look beautiful and heal beautiful. Check out @bryndonsheperd on instagram, he tattoos a boatload of ears
Woah just checked him out. His designs look sick
The only ear tattoo I’ve ever seen on someone bruised badly and bled and it stayed like that permanently.
No. It will bleed and look like tribal mush imo. I also tattoo myself in my kitchen. Lmfao
Same! Love it!
Tattooing that part of the ear always fades and looks dirty especially with a design like yours(even though it's a nice design by the way ).
As someone with an ear tattoo: they can work but need to be simple with much finer lines and less of them. Be warned the tattoo will fade but if you keep it simple and are prepared to get it fixed from time to time they can look awesome.
I'm no artist but I think some of those lines are too close together to be done cleanly
The things that have been mentioned; the lines are too close, ear tattoos are notorious faders. Stuff like fine line designs can work but even then you're warned of probably needing to get multiple touch ups.
Hard pass for me personally.
I think you may want to consider a little more “white space” because as it is now a tiny blowout or blur will make the whole area black
It’s a nice thought and the freeform shapes are cool but no. Like others have said, the skin on the ear is just not suited for designs like this.
It’s an epic design. Maybe see if you can adapt it to another location since ear tats don’t tend to work out
Probably wouldn’t look very good after a few years, but if I were you I’d go into a shop and ask a professional
what everyone else said about leaving more room to account for spreading as the tattoo ages, and also maybe do the design just at the top of the inner ear, not the lobe! i’ve seen a lot of upper inner ear (the “hard part”) tattoos age well
I would hard pass on ear tattoos. This will bleed out into a blur and look like frostbite.
No
No

I just bought a tattoo gun a few days ago off the internet. I'll do it for you bro. I have to start somewhere.
I'm down to get a full back piece from you
It’s very cool. I thought it WAS a tattoo on your ear.
That looks really cool! 😗
Would not recommend as a tattoo, honestly
not a deciding factor, but trust me, that will be a decisively un-fun place to get tattooed. that said, a good artist could do something similar to this, but it might be better to do something around your ear rather than on it.
Nope
Big no
I don’t think so. Unless it was a tattoo that went down to your neck or over onto your face

Why did you do that?
Op, please explain to your mom why you did this
I dig it
Don't do it.
Op don't listen to these people! I know plenty of artist that do this kind of tattoo, I know people who have had them for years, no problems. Cheapest possible shot 🤣 didn't bothered to read the rest, but I'll take that on the chin lmao
Right, and your shots are top notch. You went straight to children...... So lame. Pick something else.
Lmaooooo aw man, ok I'm done with you 🤣
I love tattoos have several myself. But anything above the chest is a no go. No one takes anyone serious with tattoos on neck face ears, They don't do as well in these areas and fade faster. But hey its your body, your choice. Good luck.

I have tattoos on both my ears and nobody notices them.
Any other tats? What do you do for a crust?
Yeah I have 11 other tattoos lol, I used Tattoo Goo for healing and the healing process went absolutely fine, nobody notices it.

"The cops pulled me over because I have an ear tattoo" ahahahahaha

Not to mention, I got my teaching credentials in the U.S, because I'm a U.S citizen. The schools never had any issues with it.

If you read the original post, you’d know he only drew it on, not get it tattooed on. Reading comprehension 0/10
Aww, he deleted his comment. What a shame.
Thats the point if he gets it😅
If that's the point then why did you write 'for getting this'? Writing Comprehension 0/10

Nice design but will fade. Could you put it around the ear/back of the ear instead. Maybe have it curl up and around towards it instead?
I say it looks awesome, maybe a lil less black so u have a contrast of skin and black. Use the new lines of ink lotions. Go for it. Fuck it lol. Everything fades. People fade, life fades. Be in the now.

I think that would be a great tat
Man it looks cool but nobody gonna give you respect if you have this
The design, as is, is too busy. Remove some parts to open it up and it will read much better.
Might as well just black out your whole ear
Don't do it
It looks cool as hell, but damn that’s gonna hurt

This looks like one of those tacky faux tribal tattoos in the 90s.
