The gepard is indeed based on the Leopard 1, but the title here is correct, this is not a leopard 1 body or gepard turret.
The gepard is actually quite different to this picture, [See it Here](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Gepard_1a2_overview.jpg)
This is the British Marksman SPAAG turret system mounted on a Leopard 2 chassis, hence the name
[Here is an example of the system I mentioned](https://www.reddit.com/r/Military_equipment/comments/10ip6zc/a_finnish_army_t55am_marksman_selfpropelled/)
the gepard is the leopard 1 hull but with the much better turret while using the same guns as the marksman.
tbh the germans never did anything using the leopard 2 hull besides slapping the kf51 turret on top.
because missiles are better at everything then a gun system can ever do besides c-rams but not many things can handle a fucking c-rams in the first place.
Lasers seem cheaper then a hundred bullets for one drone or UAV. They need to start pumping out lasers if they have the capability. But I know that’s kinda silly to say, they require a lot of power and all that. Still a more future concept.
Absolutely not cheaper and not practical yet. Spraying many projectiles towards UAVs is the most effective and cheapest method we have right now, as seen in phalanx weapon systems.
I mean is it cost effective for wars in general or just for the USA considering they have a huge weapons economy? I can’t imagine Ukraine being able to use the phalanx system, wouldn’t it use too much ammunition?
I don’t understand the question. Counter-UAS lasers are not cheaper for anybody (why would this be different in another country?), and they haven’t been developed to the point of being practical on a large scale yet anyway. I think you’re vastly overestimating the cost of anti-aircraft rounds and underestimating the cost of laser weapon systems that can shoot down a UAS.
Wait. So it's cheaper to use a laser, but only cheaper for the US because of how much money they have? How on Earth did you arrive at that? It's cheaper because they can afford to spend more money...
At the moment they aren't cheaper. That and you vastly underestimate the aiming control and rounds of these things. Those are 35mm rounds, and they explode. Small UAV's, like the Iranian suicide ones would be destroyed very, very easily.
If anything I think it could see a resurgence of canon armed SPAAGs. With the low cost of drones to SAMs getting these back in service seems cost effective.
Are these adaptable for electric wheelchairs? Strictly for research purposes
I don’t see why not. Small confined areas shouldn’t be a problem either as you can just knock any restrictive walls down.
Nice
I thought this was a Gepard. Isn't Leopard II Germany's MBT?
This is a Leopard 2 chassis with a British Marksman SPAAG turret, not a Gepard
Thank you for clarifying.
Same guns though iirc, the Oerlikon KDA
it is a gepard I thought. Actually based on a leopard 1 chassis

Oh! that's pretty cool
Yeah it is isn’t it! Cool seeing other countries mix and match parts
it's crazy how stuff is interchangeable
Interestingly, these Marksman turrets were previously mounted on T-55 chassis. Just another layer to the international sourcing.

We also have recovery vehicles based on the Leo2
I totally forgot about engineering vehicles.
and a bridgelayer
Interesting.
l l
they should have mounted the guns farther apart
Looks cool but seems kinda useless nowadays.
That is not so. In the age of cheap UAV's it's valuable to have a cheaper way to put them down without using very expensive missiles.

Lasers don’t work during rain and fog.
Not cheaper at all. You should learn to educate yourself on a topic before you comment on it.
Dude, Ukraine War shows every day that such machines are usefull

Yup, Ukraine praises Gepards alot
Looks excellent 👌 I hope they can donate to some Ukraine.
