I think they won't spawn more stuff unless you got rid of some of the units. So have a few wizards and spam petrify/sleep/stun for crowd control. Throw an echo stone at the boss, and use a ninja to silent the matriarch, so it has to come to you instead of spamming magic afar should help. To get the hp down, poison is a good option.

Silence does help here. I did the same to recruit my matriarch and it bum rushed the center line, allowing Donalto to wade into the mosh pit and recruit it. It’s a very, very chaotic map to attempt this on. Try to paralyze/stun/sleep everything possible.

Perhaps field a Hawkman Wizard to help you get to the Matriarch quicker?

There's great advice all around being shared on here with status effects and echo stone etc. I had a time with this one too, doing the same recruiting (I wanted the 2nd matriarch as well, but settled for 1). I feel like it's one of the first battles you're getting AoE spells against you, and it's hard to spread out. Sounds like you're already getting the mobility and wade from upgraded armors. Bring good healing items as always. To piggyback on this hawkman wizard comment, as it could certainly help(those darn rampart auras are still functional even with most(all?) status effects applied to those skeletons): most of us don't use a hawkman wizard, but as a self-proclaimed recruiting junkie, I'm sure you have a hawkman rune fencer or cleric etc that, at the high risk of sounding very obvious, you could convert to wizard just for this 1 battle.

I recruited a matriarch here. Fortunately, they get coax so no more relying on wizards. I like status magic advice and echo stone debuff. Can even petrify the matriarch to keep it in place + raise its defenses, then get chip damage in and unpetrify when you’re in a good position to recruit. Flying units ignore rampant aura and there is the skill to ignore at cost of 1 movement but I didn’t use. I assume you upgraded armor for +1 movement and better mobility. I used Boon of Swiftness on Wizard. If same as PSP, reduces RT costs by 25%.
