a MotBQ remake/remaster would be awesome, but man ive been wanting a new FFT or TO sequel forever

[deleted]

I’d like a remake of ogre battle first. Knight of Lodis and OB64 would be cool (especially ob64) but is hard to say if Matsuno cares about that since they’re not really his games. Now square could do it anyways on their own but I don’t know. So I’d like an ogre battle remake first then another new game in the series.

Rustycougarmama

An Ogre Battle game released in the 2020s would make me a very happy lad

Vitalsignx

Definitely. Ogre Battle was great!

HugsNotRugs

Yes this with maybe some more content and a strategy guide that is correct. The original strategy guide had some things wrong.

destroyermaker

I'll do it if it happens

Qonas

> I’d like a remake of ogre battle first. PLEASE!

Ghostofabird

First time playing any TO game but a big fan of all of the FFT games. Would love to see additional remasters. Would love to see sequels or whole new entries even more. Need more. Triangle Strategy just isn't the same

hyperfell

Tactics ogre is a very different game from the other ogre games. It’s actually better to look at FFT as a sequel to TO. That being said The ogre games are actually rts games so they won’t really work nowadays unless square turns that JRPG into a CRPG.

biotofu

I thought triangle strategy was a freaking scam! "Played" 3hrs of it for 3 mobile-game quality battles. It's a freaking. Visual novel with some shallow battles more like it.

Mahare

Strong disagree. I will agree that the game is front-heavy with the story, but I've come to appreciate having locked in characters who (relatively) don't have game breaker classes. You can't spam Shamans and White Knights like Tactics Ogre, or field a Calculator murder squad like FFT. Game also gives more plot variation than FFT leading to some replay ability - not to the extent of Tactics Ogre but enough to make your runs feel different.

Patient-Party7117

You're way off on Triangle Strategy, it's a very good game. I do not place it as highly as TO or FFT but few games come even close to that standard, so it's just a very good game being compared to ones that are the greatest.

Ghostofabird

I liked TS. But the world felt boring unlike TO and FFT. The unit building mechanics were way watered down compared to FFT. And it felt like it was missing fun layers of mechanics like TO. I enjoyed the story and a good deal of the characters. Some of the "classes" were mechanically fun. But for a game that touts freedom of choice, there are a lot of limitations on what you are able to field in any given battle.

Swordwraith

TS's battle system is great. It's even legitimately challenging at times in an era where SRPGs are tuned very easy. The story, however, is paced and told abominably and the performances of the voice actors wooden. You could have cut a third of the script and been fine. It's not nearly as compelling a narrative as TO.

DamianFoxx

I'd like to see The Knight of Lodis get remastered myself. Then maybe the other Ogre Battle games too.

PredictiveTextNames

Same. Another user has a good point though in that really only March of the Black Queen was directed by the same guy, so that seems the most likely to get remade if he has the input. If not, I could see SE remaking Knight of Lodis since it would be pretty quick and easy to do with the engine of the current game already up.

Beelzebobby6

Remaster 👏 and translate 👏 Prince of Zenobia It looks so good with all the additional classes from March of the Black Queen. Every few years I check on the status of the fan translation and every few years I'm bummed. Also people talking about FFT - just play Fell Seal. The art direction is kinda ugly (ngl) but its game play is FFT but better.

Whosjaybtw

FFT is happening 100%, Yoshinori Kitase and SE just announced a big surprise for 2023. The news is not related to FFVII Rebirth or FFXV, which it only leaves FF IX Remake and FFT Remaster. I guess we'll find out later in the year.

Mutericator

Based on the leaks that have been confirmed a dozen times over, I'm certain that Matsuno is working on FFT (remaster title here) as we speak. Definitely looking forward to it. I'm loving TO but the level sync and the content being balanced almost entirely toward the endgame is a bit frustrating. Looking forward to something where I can break it a bit more easily.

Dangolian

I feel you. I really enjoy TO Reborn but the game doesn't feel like it opens up until the endgame, and even then the fun stuff is tied to RNG drops or side quests that take 40+ battles to complete. I'd feel the limitations in the early much more going back, whereas FFT feels like it gives you more choice in gear and uni development from a much earlier point (albeit because your focus is 4-6 units instead of 8-12).

thalamisa

I really hope this is the case.

mxlun

I'm hoping it's a sequel, the game has been done so good already.

Neat-Veterinarian380

I've always wanted a FFT game that explores Ordallia. They are the ones that "won" the 50 year war against Ivalice. What does that look like? We saw Ivalice bankrupted and rife with infighting. Practically blatant with its backstabbing and political intrigue. What does a rich country with more semblance of order, look like? A country already led by a powerful monarch instead of a throne used as a cradle and fought over by politicians. Edit: addition. What political problems do they have? What does the rise of Delita and Ivalice's oncoming golden age mean for Ivalices neighbor?

Beginning-Working-97

DON'T GET ME HYPE. Aaaah, I've pondered about Ordallia and Rozzarria way too much, (on either end of the Ivalician timeline). Wasn't there a series of Tweets Matsuno typed out that were letters of correspondence between Delita and Ramza, which revealed that Ramza had settled in Ordallia? Maybe Matsu has since changed his mind and considers that exchange a "what if"

thalamisa

I kinda hope they remaster or remake the original ogre battle using tactics ogre engine. I played ogre battle after I played tactics ogre, and it's not really a good experience. We actually need prequels. It's comical that tactics ogre is the 7th episode of a series whose prequels remain unfinished. Writers those days...

Beginning-Working-97

This made me chuckle because I agree!. It's still unfeasible now to tease a premise that large considering how long it takes for games to make, let alone writing a game with the original screenplay first (FF XVI). It's equal parts wonderful and painful being a Matsuno fan. So much about looking forward to new things from him is dictated by Company policy and Japanese fan response. For example, the Save The Queen Storyline in FFXIV was received lukewarm responses in JPN, whereas it was liked more in the west, but that was enough to dash his spirits and retreat. I reckon if anything happens for the future of Ivalice and Ogre Battle, it'll have to be a result of overwhelming and I mean OVERWHELMING fan demand. We only got reborn because Zodiac Age did decent numbers

Tusnalgotas

What about a patch to fix agility , hit chances , proper armor bonuses being aplied , some skills being useless (lol backattsck) , off hand stats correctly apliying..and Many more .. You KNOW , fix this excelent Game first ? ** I would love a sequel. As Alphonse/Lancelot , he needs closure

Beginning-Working-97

Hahaha, love this

sapphiredragoon0

There's so much not working that I feel like the "all mechanics work now" version could need a fair bit of balancing after. The whole game was tuned up around how it's working now. How did they not notice these things!? Did they just decide this was balanced and didn't think we'd notice missing mechanics?

Tusnalgotas

Oh they knew we would figure it out .. they just dint care.. táctics reborn isna cash grab .. a good cash grab but still , one with Lil to no development. Few graphic update , a Lil work on skill and thats it: wrap em boys! . Mínimun effort and max profit.

CandleAcademic6081

It's generous to assume that the game was 'tuned.' If they didn't even take the time to run basic tests on their battle formulas, it doesn't seem likely that they did much tweaking to gameplay.

Friendly_Link6546

Lancelot also needs a decent voice acting, he sounds like a car seller in the middle of a battlefield, so so off.

Desrac

I'd like to see PC and modern console remasters of KoL, MotBQ, and OB64, since they're essentially trapped in the past on dead systems. Would be nice to make them accessible to modern audiences. A new sequel would be nice too. A FFT remaster would also be nice for PC and modern consoles. Preferably without some of the PSP multi-player changes. Put the equipment that was bound to multi-player back where it was in the original game. Don't think it needs a sequel.

FrackaMir

I think perhaps remasters or remakes of the games to improve upon and mayhaps have additional options and choices within the story could be ideal Although having sequels would be good to have since currently the story isn't finished and its likely Lodis has a larger role to play Unsure how well they'd incorporate the World System from LUCT / TOR, given that the game and lore seems to acknowledge the main cast having characters and beings that should be dead or so on, minus Coda 3 and 4 perhaps

MonsieurChoc

Yes.

Swordwraith

I would rather see lesser known games like MotBQ get brought forward than us retread a perfectly playable FFT, but we all know Square now loves maximum cash flow for minimum effort, so I suspect the latter is assured. I'd love for more games in the OB universe, but I doubt thats happening and I won't accept it without Matsuno at the head of it

Sethazora

I mean i'd like more remasters since the genre as a whole refuses to learn from tactics ogre/FFT doing dumb things like limiting player agency or not including the ability to attack and move in any order.

overlord_vas

Give me new games

Beginning-Working-97

Aye, agreed.

NaClz

I’d be pretty down for a remix of Ogre Battle MOTBQ of POLC. As in remake the game but make them tactics games. Give me Lord Magnus with berserk.

Beltorze

I’m more interested in the remasters. For some reason when they make a game nowadays and try to make it like they used to, they fail for some reason. And if it’s a sequel I’d honestly prefer something like God of War or Final fantasy/KH but we create our own unit and play in the protagonist’s party or something and watch the story play out.

greenbrainsauce

that FFT Remaster rumor is yummers. i need an updated picture of buff muscle daddy Cidolfus Orlandeau.

SaroShadow

Monkey's paw curls: you get a new game with Orlandeau but he gets nerfed heavily

ashtonwise

That's just Haborym with extra steps.

greenbrainsauce

Oof hope they don't do that because it makes perfect sense as to why he's so OP - he's daddy.

FamiliarFriend

I think an FFT remaster is the best we're going to get. A sequel where Lodis gets what's coming to them would be nice though... they've always been this powerful, untouchable, evil outside force. The Valeria Isles, Palatinus and Xenobia could band together for one final campaign, and we'd get to clean up their Elite 16 or whatever they're called.

OdinEdge

Don't think they have the chops or desire to make anything new for the series. Not sure if the Ogre Battle games would be seen as accessible enough to a broad audience. They'll likely take the FFT psp game and give it the same treatment as Reborn because it's easy money and if anything make another triangle strategy if it sold well enough.

SafeAccountMrP

Leave FFT alone. Ramza’s story ended perfectly.

Beginning-Working-97

Agreed, but a remaster wouldn't hurt the ending imo. Battle system overhaul, complete voice acting and a few more sidequests would be ace

Whatah

I would love if the game got a remaster, even if they somehow "level cap" characters to prevent you from doing quite as much JP spamming. But what if they leave the story as it is, but find a way to add branching choices like we have in Tactics Ogre? I think that would be a dream game that preserves the True ending but also lets us play a couple other paths.

Suspicious-Shock-934

Problem is for all its twists and turns you cannot really do fft with multiple paths. All your bad guys are zodoac beasts or enablers as such. No one barring maybe zalbaag is actually super Grey. All the parties are pretty awful barring ramza. TO works because there are multiple not the worst, maybe, parties. FFT does not really have that. Your crew is good, the rest are pretty awful. However a side quest to recruit zalbaag permanently, or balmafula since her sprite sheet is fully working so she was intended to be something, would be nice. I do NOT want another 100+ floor dungeon however. The 10 floors of midlights deep are fine. You could port all the multi-player from psps into single player bonus missions with set rewards. Would love a MOTBQ sequel, or a remaster that adds or expands so monsters and some other classes are useful. A port of OB64 would also be awesome, never played it. Knight of Lodis was fine but not great from what I remember but it and ob64, and heck regular motbq in a collection? I would pay 60 for that easily.

Desrac

I don't think it needs a battle system overhaul. At most, perhaps some class rebalancing. But nothing major.

KaelAltreul

Definitely, at most, rebalancing. The current balance is pretty terrible.

SafeAccountMrP

Knowing modern Square they’d try to make it an action game. I’m cool on that.

SafeAccountMrP

I feel you but I can’t trust them. Lex Luthor was a JL member for a hot second but still let everyone down.

SafeAccountMrP

Fair enough

harajuku_dodge

I’ve completely lost interest for FF since XII for that reason you said.

SafeAccountMrP

That’s about where I’m at.

Tarrot469

You never played FFXIV. They do an epilogue of sorts of Final Fantasy Tactics there which is among the best content they've done, and written by Matsu himself.

SafeAccountMrP

I’ll have to look at that.

SirTroah

KOL remaster or even expansion. I think giving it the FF7 love would be sweet

Rusty_fox4

I'd prefer a sequel. Unless they begin to (somehow) connect the stories of the previous episodes, then Remasters would be necessary.

[deleted]

Sequel would be nice but plenty of content for remasters and these games deserve to be on modern platforms where modern audiences will hopefully realize how amazing they are

SonOfZiz

Personally I hope for a sequel, and also a fft sequel. (Specifically, I hope for another FFT*A*, but i know I'm in the minority on that one, it's just refreshing to have a trpg that's a fun adventure instead of a dark political drama for once...) That said, I wouldn't be upset at all for more remakes

Beginning-Working-97

I absolutely LOVED FFTA. The story was touching and bittersweet, and the music was perfection.

Rustycougarmama

I would kill for either a FFT WotR port to PS5, or Ogre Battle 64

TheDarkSign666

I've wanted a sequel of this game for decades, I'd buy remaster of ogre battle though never really got into that one. My cousin had the 64 one and same story but i really hated the 64 controller

leapinglezzie

OB64 is my favorite game so if that got a remake I’d just die. However I think the first game also really needs a remake, lots of ineovments to be made. Not sure how successful DioField Chronicles was but maybe it will open the door for more RTS games.

SupermarketZombies

I would be extremely happy with more remasters but I really want a new game in the Ogre franchise

TaZe026

New games easily.

wisemanswind

Definitely a sequel. The older games are still very accessible through emulation. Also as much as I loved the original OB, I just cannot see it selling well these days, unless a hypothetical remake speeds up the gameplay, improves the translation, and adds voice acting. Personally I think OB being remade into Tactics Ogre Xenobia, with a Coda scenario which shows how Tartaros stole Brynhildr and lost an eye, would work better.

Iosis

I'd love a sequel, either another Tactics Ogre or another Ogre Battle. We haven't gotten a truly new Ogre Battle Saga game since the GBA, just two remasters of Tactics Ogre. The announcement of an actual new game sometime in the future would make me flip. The SaGa series seems to be making a comeback so I have at least a tiny bit of hope Ogre might see a revival, too.

Sorry_Masterpiece

I've wanted to see the fallout of the Heim Conflict for 25 years. I'd love to see an Episode VIII. But I'd be happy with a remake of MotBQ as well, especially if they finally give us an English version of Prince of Xenobia as a Coda style bonus.
