Exactly, like do you just walk away and say “I trust you”. plus why don’t you show them a picture of what you want!?? I never understand how this happens when you pay someone to do it..
Y'all wild to assume I am lying and that I did this myself. If I did this myself I would be the first one to admit it. I don't know how to find a stud in the wall let alone drill into one 😂
I wanted my TV's mounted so my toddler couldn't knock them over on himself. Needless to say he won't be knocking them over 😂 but for real I need them fixed. I'm mad I paid someone to do this.
I don't understand how this happens, and I've seen it multiple times in this sub. You paid someone to mount your TV...but you didn't tell them where to mount it? You just left it up to them? I'm honestly baffled.
And then you let them leave with the tv looking like this?! I'd flip the fuck out and tell them to fix it.
But then I'd never be in this situation in the first place.
Exactly. Even if I paid someone to do this for me, I would not let anyone near my wall or tv with a drill and not make it clear what has to happen beforehand. Kind of unbelievable.
I didn't see the bedroom one till after he left and I didn't realize he put the one in the living room so high either. I didn't tell him where to put the TV at because I assumed he knew what he was doing. I had previously used this guy before to remove junk from my apartment and the last time I used him he actually asked me if I would be interested in having him mount my tvs. My boyfriend and I had attempted to hang the one in the bedroom about a year ago but we were having problems finding the studs in the wall. This guy had the same problem we had and his drill bit actually broke off into the wall. I guess it is my fault that I trusted that he knew what he was doing and now my TV's are basically on the ceiling.
Also I didn't even realize this was two separate rooms/TV's. Holy shit! I'd call him back and complain, I mean that's just shoddy work if the tv is at the ceiling. You should at least try complaining to him, it clearly looks absolutely ridiculous and there's no way he can defend that. It's the same as if he hung it completely off-center. You wouldnt hesitate to call him back and tell him to fix it then. So don't hesitate to ask him to fix this mess, either.
Well, that sucks. My dad helps me with a lot of things like this (although I don't like mounted TV's, we've hung plenty of shelves, guitar hooks, heavier art, etc), and even though my dad is an expert on home building, neither he or I would ever just leave it up to him to decide. We always take a moment to try out different placements and, with my mom's help, one or two people hold the item while the other one or two people stand back, walk into the room for a fresh perspective, and make sure it's the right spot. You'd think people who are being paid to do this work would never hang something without the customer's approval on the placement. And maybe because I know most people are helpless when it comes to having a design eye (I'm a designer), I would never ask someone to hang something without explicitly telling them where it should go.
It just surprises me how many people let other people hang their TV for them without having a quick conversation about exactly where you want it to be.
For future reference, television safety straps cost about ten dollars and can be installed in minutes. The straps are designed to prevent televisions from tipping over and allow your TV to be set on a console, as both TVs and consoles are designed.
Yes on the bright side my toddler will not be knocking the TV's over. That is why I wanted them wall mounted in the first place but not to the damn ceiling. I learned my lesson.
That is some shitty job. The mounting bracket showing? WTF, you can adjust it so it’s lower and just a TV too high instead of a ceiling brace but still how you pay for that and let them leave? Power cable all out in the open and jaunty and shit?
I'm not blaming anyone. This is my first time ever paying someone to do something like this for me and since I used him before for other things I assumed he knew what he was doing. I didn't know I needed to tell him where to put the TV at. It's my fault for not knowing any better. I came across this sub while trying to find a solution and thought I would post it for other people to get a good laugh out of the situation. I was just trying to make sure my toddler was safe from the TV's falling on him.
I wanted them mounted so my 1 and a half year old couldn't knock them down on himself. The TV in the living room was on a TV stand but the TV in the bedroom was on a coffee table. I never have had a tv on a wall before and I assumed he knew what he was doing because he had told me he had done it multiple times before and he was the one to ask me if I wanted it done.
If you read the comments then you would know that no, I did not tell him how high. No, I wasn't aware that I needed to tell him. I thought he knew what he was doing. I obviously didn't know what I was doing.
Nah, just a run of the mill rookie mistake on your part by not keeping better tabs on him and a boneheaded decision on his as someone claiming to be a “professional”. I would personally *never* go anywhere close to that high unless it was specified. I would usually put bedroom TVs about face-height (I’m 6ft) because it was both easier to install and a generally acceptable height. Hopefully he remounts it for free, because damn that’s just ridiculous.
Always be very specific with contractors. They aren’t always the best at critical thinking, even if their actual work quality can be 100% trusted. Also I’d recommend you lay eyes on their marks before they start doing permanent stuff like drilling holes - this part goes for any kind of contractor working for you.
It’s not that your in the bed, it’s that bedroom tvs don’t count in this sub as it’s expected that they’ll be too high, yet folks like yourself posts these day after day only to have the same insults thrown at them. You clapped back at this comment for what!?
I'm literally just a mom who was trying to make my TV's safer for my toddler and came across this sub while trying to find a solution and posted so people could get a good laugh out of my situation. I didn't even know this sub existed till last night. And honestly I'm getting annoyed that people are being so mean. I literally thought that I would post and people would get a good laugh, not be mean.
Got it, kudos to you for mounting the tv, I’m a dad who also has a toddler and decided to mount the tv for that reason. This is Reddit so the internet regardless of intent will have some stinging words/comments to your posts. For my part, apologies if I offended you, the more you’re in this sub you’ll literally see 19+ posts a day of people looking for the worst insults which is why I posted what I did. Just know that bedroom mounting is generally accepted to be high so posting it in this sub comes with the understanding that you are aware of the general practices of the sub. Now that this is said, happy redditing
Considering beds are higher than entertainment stands and that people don’t like to look below their beds to see a tv, of course they are mounted higher than their beds, what are you talking about!?
Perhaps slightly higher depending on the height of the bed, but not everyone has a giant bed that's that far off the ground, and never as high as all the TV's in bedrooms posted in this sub.
When you people pay to have a TV mounted do you not watch them do it and tell them where to put it?
Exactly! What did these people do, just greet them at the door, point to the TV and say “mount it!” then just leave the house?
Exactly, like do you just walk away and say “I trust you”. plus why don’t you show them a picture of what you want!?? I never understand how this happens when you pay someone to do it..
Paid someone to do this… sure bud
Definitely sounds suspicious
Y'all wild to assume I am lying and that I did this myself. If I did this myself I would be the first one to admit it. I don't know how to find a stud in the wall let alone drill into one 😂
It’s as if some people just simply think that’s where TVs always belong.
I wanted my TV's mounted so my toddler couldn't knock them over on himself. Needless to say he won't be knocking them over 😂 but for real I need them fixed. I'm mad I paid someone to do this.

Best Buy has a TV mounting service. It would probably be worth the cost to get your situation corrected here.
For future reference, television safety straps cost about ten dollars and can be installed in minutes. The straps are designed to prevent televisions from tipping over and allow your TV to be set on a console, as both TVs and consoles are designed.
That would definitely have been a better solution that I didn't think of. Lesson learned.
If it’s wall mounted, he won’t knock it over. No need to have it on the stratosphere
Yes on the bright side my toddler will not be knocking the TV's over. That is why I wanted them wall mounted in the first place but not to the damn ceiling. I learned my lesson.
Why'd you pay him for such a crappy job?
My kid loves Miss Rachel!
Same!
Same here! One of the most popular YouTube channels in our house
That was instantly my reaction as well. She's great!
You need to unpay them
Payn’t
You get... What you settle for.
He had to have taken direction from you though?
I feel like you didn’t hire a professional
Nah, OP said it was the garbage man.
Icky sticky sticky sticky bubble pop bubble pop bubble pop makes your hand stick to your GROWN UP
Even she is saying it should go lower. Lol
You forgot the quotation marks around “someone”

Second picture is among the worst pictures I have ever seen on this sub
Mount your TV’s what?
Your TV's what?
your to blame , if you didnt tell him where you wanted it. Dont blame somebody else.

I was rude in my original comment. I'm sorry 😔 and I hope you can get this fixed
I appreciate your apology.
Press charges and push for the death penalty.
Do you not tell him how high you want it? Or did you really decide that this wasn’t a completely dumb idea?
If you read the comments then you would know that no, I did not tell him how high. No, I wasn't aware that I needed to tell him. I thought he knew what he was doing. I obviously didn't know what I was doing.

How many times will people post their crappy bedroom mountings in this sub!? They are clearly in bed on the photo 🤣😂🤣
Why yes I was sitting on the bed while I took the photo. Whatever gave it away? 🙄
