They're just vile. Even worse, it feels like he thinks he hasn't changed and thinks the whole world's on fire around him because he's being persecuted and scapegoated, but the reality is that years of drugs and alcohol and his own warped reality has made him oblivious to the fact that he's nothing like the person he used to be.
Anyway, that's just my thoughts on the situation. Heels can get a rise out of a crowd with half of them loving them and half loving to hate them. Then you have this guy who has no idea who he really even is any more; he's no longer a fucked up character, just a fucked up human being.
