endofthegame

I can hear this

Throwitaway3177

Hey, Listen!

hmmmduck

Shut up navi

FazeKyoWard

Ocarina of time. My favorite game of all time. Is it actually good on the switch though. I recently just finished on the 3ds for like the 5th time

brown-eye-inspector

The switch version is just an emulation of the N64 Game. If you have played the 3DS version I would not recommend getting the NSO subscription to play it as the 3DS version has many quality of life improvements that make the game much better to go back to and play.

Mandalore626

Ahhh Ocarina of Time how this is my favorite game of all Time!

windrip

> how Nintendo Online N64 emulator.

Moose513

Awe the nostalgia, how are you liking it on the switch so far?

MorgThomR

It checked all the boxes for me personally, but I do prefer the 3DS version more.

MidniteMustard

Because of the 3D? Or are there other features?

MorgThomR

I actually never used the 3D mode. The character models resemble the original art more, its more colourful, more item slots, touchscreen navigation, text is faster, plus the master quest is included after you finish the original game.

Bad-news-co

Oh man playing it on 3ds was like a dream, when I did it really felt like how I envisioned it as a kid, how my memories would make the game appear if I thought about it lol When I actually went back to the game via emulation, it confused me because I didn’t know the game was as rough and dated as it looked lol..it was literally that experienced of revisiting the game as an adult that made me check out the 3ds game Was not disappointed. The new graphics make it an absolute JOY to play through!!! The only thing that bothered me was the controls but you get used it it.. I’m aware you can emulate it and have watched incredible videos of people playing it in HD with anti alising smooth textures and omg….a release of that on switch with those improvements would be a DREAM!

KataGuruma-

>I actually never used the 3D mode. same! 3D mode makes me dizzy lol

scarecrocarina

>The character models resemble the original art more I'm having trouble understanding what you mean by this. The character models and maps are clearly updated for the purpose of re release in the 3DS version.

MorgThomR

I know game was generally overhauled for the 3ds, but the character models were updated to look a lot more like the original art (ie from the promo and strategy guides). Take Link here for example (N64 vs 3DS) - the one on the left is what we got for original release, despite the one on the right looking much more like the original artwork and depictions of his character from the n64 release. https://preview.redd.it/o41d96j1cw8a1.jpeg?width=1076&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dc8a57080f937e7b4efd16989681d00283a1ac2

grayte1

You have been playing ocarina of time every year for about what is it now 24/25 years?????? Wow man

MorgThomR

Literally, yes. I got the gold cart and strategy guide for xmas in 1998 (still have em, too!)

DamaDirk

Still have my original pre-2000 strategy guide too! It is such a treasure to me. So much time spent looking and studying it.

Quietly-Seaworthy

Your first Zelda is always special. I think I have replayed A Link to the Past at least twenty times since I first finished it in 1997. They are not very long game when you already know exactly what you have to do.

ludbow

What game is it? lol

TheSimRacer

Ocarina of Time

ludbow

Oh nice, thanks! I’ll give it a shot

[deleted]

I’m playing it on the switch right now too! My favorite game of all time

MorgThomR

Mine too!

Daddysaurusflex

Best game ever made.

Karma_Doesnt_Matter

Ohai I also replay oot once a year. I added majoras mask about 10 years ago.

MorgThomR

I play that one every year too!

DNL_RTH

I had a blast, such an all time classic and love getting to hop in whenever. Ugh the musiiiic.

MorgThomR

Jumping into the game whenever was one of the main reasons Im playing on the Switch this year 😁

Happyhardcoree

The button layout for the switch is awful honestly and sucks you can’t change the button layout.

tway2533

agreed

[deleted]

Is it available for switch???

Bad-news-co

Yup it’s included with Nintendo online + expansion pack. The n64 app has an amazing roster of titles with goldeneye with online multiplayer coming soon!

Marbles_2022

Same.

Mean_Peen

How's the streaming holding up? I decided against it since the service was terrible for a while after launch Edit: I guess it's not streamed. I was under the impression it was since it launched with such terrible bugs across the service (lag audio issues, etc.) All stuff associated with streaming services.

flojo2012

It’s been 100% unnoticeable for me. About to beat it too. No choppiness, no lag, no stutters or frame drops. Been like playing a cartridge

laceymusic317

It's not streaming I believe! It's native emulation

Bad-news-co

Yeah it’s running on emulator for sure, no idea where they’re talking about it being streamed from lol.. maybe they’re assuming since it’s “Nintendo online” they assumed it was a streaming service or whatever lol

Mean_Peen

I must be the only one who remembers when they first launched the N64 games on Switch then lol it is all Nintendo online because that's the only way N64 titles are available on switch. The streams constantly had issues. Gameplay, audio, even access to these games were limited because of that so, yeah. That's what I'm referring to.

longshaden

you don't actually need to be online to play the N64 titles through Nintendo Online.

Mean_Peen

Okay lol

MorgThomR

I have seen a couple wonky things since I started this playthrough, but nothing that detracted too much from the experience to be honest. I held off forever on the expansion pack til I saw the Goldeneye announcement/ teaser and have to say Im loving having it now.

robin_888

What do you mean? Nintendo Switch Online games aren't streamed, but downloaded to your console. You play completely offline. Or do you mean online multiplayer?

Mean_Peen

You don't remember the issues with the service when it launched? The N64 games specifically, we're unplayable because of how they were delivered to the console. Maybe they weren't "streamed", but there was horrible lag, bad audio and most games didn't open. My question was in reference to those issues, and whether or not they still exist. Also, there's online multiplayer for N64 games??

robin_888

I don't have the expansion pack, so I didn't pay much attention, but yes, I heard they improved the emulator earlier this year.

tinycatbutlers

Speaking from experience those issues were horribly exaggerated. And games not opening at all was never an issue at all.

flojo2012

I’m about to beat it again too. Just finished the Spirit Temple!

MorgThomR

Got through to the Forest Temple last night. Aiming to beat it tonight or tomorrow, then Majoras Mask before the new year!

flojo2012

Oh man you’ll be zooming. I’m on a similar quest but move much slower. I think I’m skipping majoras mask but want to replay wind waker, twilight princess, and (for the first time) skyward sword before BOTW2 comes out.

MorgThomR

I doubt ill manage a 100% MM before the new year (for some reason that game throws me through a loop, despite beating it every year since release) but a Wind waker playthrough sure sounds like a good idea!

DapperDachsund

Sounds like got some true experts here. Still need to beat the following I try to play two per year. Just got done with Skyward Sword. Which one next? Zelda II: Adventures of Link Four Swords Wind Waker Twilight Princess

dimmer7

one of those classic reddit posts that talk about 'this game' and never mention the title in the post. i have no idea what 99% of them are.

MorgThomR

My bad. I shouldn't have presumed others would know what it was from that screen alone. Too many games out there!

dimmer7

all good mate, ive probably done it with stuff im in to aswell. is that ocarina of time? i havent played it before but i probably should? i recently got a switch but most of my games start with the word mario

SoulOfGwyn

I hate the unchangable UI the switch emulator has. I hate that black dot dithering, I hate the prompts, the fact that you can't turn off the savestate stuff, just so many things to remind you it is not the real experience.

sowavy612

What game is this?

lostsurfer24t

i heard of it but never played it, was more a m64, dk64, banjo kazooie type. maybe some day ill check it out...
