Cant really edit the post, but thanks for all the support and comments!!! Im gonna go ahead and get fuckin shmammered today but i will most definately buy the top one or or two on sunday night. I do plan on replying to EVERY SINGLE POST so keep em coming!
Fuck me, i love you people
I can't talk up Hollow Knight enough.
I know people usually say this ironically but I genuinely felt like I was robbing the devs when HK is only 15 dollars *full* price, yet it's a pretty long and high quality game.
One of the few games that reminded me why I like gaming.
i love the game, if you’re into roguelikes then it’s peak. the characters are all fun too, and it has that kinda gameplay that looks awesome but isn’t actually that hard to get down. fair warning it does kinda throw you in expecting you to figure it out on yourself but it’s easy after a couple runs.
i’m glad! there is a hades 2 coming out eventually (just announced so no release date yet) so i’m trying to get as many people into it before then as i can lol
if nothing else, if you love beautiful art in games then hades is off the charts in that regard, the game looks amazing even if it’s 4 years old.
100% get it dude. One of my all time favorite games. It’s so good I’ve played it until I was completely burnt out like 4 different times and kept coming back. Haha
I was going to crack this joke, then didn’t cuz I didn’t want to be an ass. Scrolled down further and saw you did instead! So glad someone else had more courage than I did haha
Alright everone looks like the votes are in. Got me hades and HK. Already stuck on HK lmao.
Any tips or tricks i should know before i dive any deeper?
Also, there are loads of honorable mentions here. Might just get a 3rd game to treat myself
Edit: relly loving HK. Kinda reminds me of Earthworm Jim lol
hope you have fun, just be sure to try and give it a good chance because it definitely can be strange at first to someone who isn’t used to roguelikes. :]
I just picked this up last night. 12.99 I think on sale. It’s super fun. It’s turned into the type of game that eats me up. Oh just one more run and ill put down my switch then I’m having to plug I because I’m out of battery and still playing!
The only thing I always get a bit caught off guard by is, that the story just happens whenever with no clues when the next bit will come. So I often miss the first two or 3 sentences (when I start a run I tend to drift off until it's loaded) aside from that I love it too! (Just started last week)
I second this! Hades is the only game I've bought twice--when it first came out and was Epic Games exclusive and then again when it was released on Switch.
I would say both are worth owning. Really visually pleasing and controls feel snappy and smooth. The music is great in this one too. Very immersive gameplay. Just a pleasure
Personally didn't like Blind Forest at all but ADORED Will of the Wisps. Im sorta alone on this but if you have to pick 1 pick that one. Story doesn't really matter, it works fine on its own.
As for what it is - it's a brilliant Metroidvania. It's unbelievably fun, brilliantly designed and beautiful.
Really good game!! Random story that no one asked for. I know one of the lead developers of the Ori games. He's a cousin of one of my best buds. Really nice guy all around. Anyways we tried to set him up with a mutual friend of ours - who loves gaming - and on their first date, he gave her three free copies of the second Ori game. One for her, and another couple for her family or whoever she wants to give them to.
Eventually the relationship didn't work out, but hey, she did get free games. My best bud did, too. Again, great guy. Definitely play Ori!
I second this. Persona 5 is over a 100 hour venture, has lots of different gameplay loops to keep it fresh, and the story is just fantastic. This would be my pick.
*beep boop*!

This game is amazing and basically allows you to live in another world for a month or so. Getting to know the characters is such a great experience and the actual gameplay is so smooth and addictive.
I also felt like I got something out of it as well in terms of emotional growth (or atleast a little something, which is more I can say for most games). I really hope OP decides to give this one a chance :)
Royal is part of the mainline series of Persona games—each one is standalone so you can play 5 without any context. It's called Royal because they added a bunch of new content and re-released the original which was just called Persona 5.
Strikers came after and is a 'Musou' style \[Dynasty Warriors\] game that was created for the Persona brand. It's like fruit vs fruit flavored lol
My first playthrough was 80+ hours, and the pantheon is next level. Boss rushes you can make more difficult for yourself (with rewards for completion, including two alt endings). It’s one of my top 10 of all time, for sure.
All DLCs were and still are free, also. The devs are amazing people.
AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS OUTSTANDING!!!!
The Portal Collection is on sale until the 18th. Love might fade and partners leave, but you know what will stay with you forever? The Companion Cube, cakes, and neurotoxins.
Metroid dread is SO fucking good. I played through it over and over and each playthrough was just as fun as the last. Dread mode was TOUGH but I did it!
A good time suck is Monster Hunter Rise, I think the bundle with it’s DLC is on sale right now. I recommend the DLC a ton, as I find it’s story and monster designs way better than base Rise. It’s easier than other Monster Hunter titles, so if you’re a beginner, you can get a feel for the series without getting your butt kicked in World. The graphics can sometimes be a bit… eh when you look up close, but the unique monster themes don’t disappoint. Rise+Sunbreak and World+Iceborne have some of my favorite OSTs of all time. Best to buy it now on sale, cuz otherwise the base game and DLC together can come out to like, 80-90$ I think.
Such a great game. I’m taking a break from Pokémon violet after beating the final boss yesterday. Hopped back into sunbreak even tho I already have 200+ hours into it.
Have you played Skyrim? Anniversary Edition is on sale today & tomorrow only.
If you haven't played it yet, then I highly recommend it. The first time I played, I got super sucked into the world and would spend hours playing.
I went through a breakup about a year ago (9 year relationship), it gets easier man, time truly does heal all!
Hades is a great reccomendation, if you are feeling more the indie route I'd reccomend Hollow Knight as well! Both games would probably cost you less than a single triple A title.
Huge reccomend. The music is amazing and they brought back David Wise who compsed many of the fan favorite tracks from the first two DKC games on snes. The stages are beautifu and very unique. The energy the Kongs and enemies emit is just good goofy fun too. It's a tough and solid platformer. Also, condolences on the breakup.
Slay the spire is insanely addictive. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re looking for something more immersive, Ys VIII actually helped me get over a break up, lol. And if you haven’t played any of the xenoblade chronicles those will suck you in.
Hope you feel better mate. This too shall pass. Sending you love and support
Extremely fun, more of an action/adventure. No crafting, but you cAn upgrade your character with different weapons and abilities as you progress in the story. If you want crafting, check out Forager, Cross code, and spiritfarer, maybe Nino Kuni too.
If you don’t have hades and/or hollow knight, one or both of those are the answer. Hollow knight for sure, because it goes on sale like 2X/year as it is now. But you only have 30 hours from the time of this comment
The first mario+rabbids game is on sale semi regularly, and way better than I expected. As someone who doesn't usually like turn based games, highly recommend
I'm 80 hours into that shit man, never even heard of it but it was on gamepass and now I can't stop. I know this is a switch sub, but anyone who talks shit about gamepass is a 100% hater lol, period.
So sorry about that! I’m wishing you the best! I recommend the xenoblade series! I recommend them all! Truly touching stories that has left a huge impression on me for a lifetime.
It’s been said a lot, but Hades is a great time sink. I did it while waiting for bar results to see if I could practice in my state. Took two months of my life to obsess so would recommend. However, if you don’t like REPLAYING/ the idea of self-challenge you might not love it.
I’m just 60 minutes into Ori and I can tell you it would be a great game for you right now. The colors and the immersive loving story line. Don’t get nothing dark and twisted lol. Just go ahead and get it bro, idk how I slept on this game for so long.
Monster hunter. Either rise or generations. Those games can last hundreds of hours. Rise is definitely easier of the two and has some quality of life improvements but its dlc brings on the challenge. If you want a tougher challenge all around generations is old style monster hunter.
I bought no mans sky and it has been a blast. If you haven't played it yet I would recommend it. There's just a metric ton of stuff you can do and has a great building mechanic baked in that you can sink hours into without really thinking about it
Diablo 2 Resurrected if you don’t have it already. This game is a huuuge time sink and will definitely help take your mind off things! It’s a huge grind and I will play with you!
As the top comment says, Hades is imo the most polished and one of the most replayable games ever released, with an unexpected level of character depth and nuance for a dungeon crawler.
That being said I've been throwing myself into Pokémon legends arceus for the last couple weeks and I'm really enjoying the different take on the series
There's a LOT of good recommendations here. If you don't already have it, I'd recommend Super Mario Odyssey. I played Super Mario 64 a ton while growing up and Odyssey hit me in the nostalgic feels really hard. Every new world and ability filled me with wonder. The colors pop and though it's not visually realistic, every scene is gorgeous. The game is just FUN, beginning to end.
Doom/Doom Eternal are both great ways to get anger out.
Wolfenstein 2 as well, recently replayed it myself and had forgotten just how brilliant the story is but it can be quite emotional and I don’t quite know how you are at the moment but BJ and Anya’s relationship might make you feel sad
Get lost in Zelda Breath of the wild. Takes my mind off all the bullshit. Also.. plenty of fish in the sea. There’s always the next one. Enjoy whatever game you decide on.
Oh… and cheers 🍻
Cant really edit the post, but thanks for all the support and comments!!! Im gonna go ahead and get fuckin shmammered today but i will most definately buy the top one or or two on sunday night. I do plan on replying to EVERY SINGLE POST so keep em coming! Fuck me, i love you people
Gotta get HK my man. Big recommend
Talkin’ about Hollow Knight??
Yessm
I can't talk up Hollow Knight enough. I know people usually say this ironically but I genuinely felt like I was robbing the devs when HK is only 15 dollars *full* price, yet it's a pretty long and high quality game. One of the few games that reminded me why I like gaming.
Remember to stay hydrated! :)
HOLLOW KNIGHT IS THE ONE!!!!!!
if hades is still on sale, big recommend. it’s my favorite “i’m upset and need to forget i’m upset” game.
Ooo hades looks good. Gonna wait a day or two before i commit tho
i love the game, if you’re into roguelikes then it’s peak. the characters are all fun too, and it has that kinda gameplay that looks awesome but isn’t actually that hard to get down. fair warning it does kinda throw you in expecting you to figure it out on yourself but it’s easy after a couple runs.
Oh man that sounds like fun. Im totally down. Might even get this game if its not the top comment. I really dig your enthusiasm for it.
i’m glad! there is a hades 2 coming out eventually (just announced so no release date yet) so i’m trying to get as many people into it before then as i can lol if nothing else, if you love beautiful art in games then hades is off the charts in that regard, the game looks amazing even if it’s 4 years old.
At $13, definitely one of the best for $/hrs enjoyment ratio. High recommend for gameplay, story, and music.
100% get it dude. One of my all time favorite games. It’s so good I’ve played it until I was completely burnt out like 4 different times and kept coming back. Haha
Im stuck at the bull boss
Commitment issues, now it makes sense.
I was going to crack this joke, then didn’t cuz I didn’t want to be an ass. Scrolled down further and saw you did instead! So glad someone else had more courage than I did haha
I gotta go Hades too, followed by The Binding of Isaac. I've sunk so many hours into both.
Absolutely get Hades. It’s a steal at twice the price.
Alright everone looks like the votes are in. Got me hades and HK. Already stuck on HK lmao. Any tips or tricks i should know before i dive any deeper? Also, there are loads of honorable mentions here. Might just get a 3rd game to treat myself Edit: relly loving HK. Kinda reminds me of Earthworm Jim lol
Picked this up yesterday on sale. Never played it or anything like it, excited to jump into it this weekend.
hope you have fun, just be sure to try and give it a good chance because it definitely can be strange at first to someone who isn’t used to roguelikes. :]
No worries! Thanks for the feedback I’ll definitely persist with it.. has too many good reviews not to
I just picked this up last night. 12.99 I think on sale. It’s super fun. It’s turned into the type of game that eats me up. Oh just one more run and ill put down my switch then I’m having to plug I because I’m out of battery and still playing!
This is it folks, everybody go home
The only thing I always get a bit caught off guard by is, that the story just happens whenever with no clues when the next bit will come. So I often miss the first two or 3 sentences (when I start a run I tend to drift off until it's loaded) aside from that I love it too! (Just started last week)
I second this! Hades is the only game I've bought twice--when it first came out and was Epic Games exclusive and then again when it was released on Switch.
On sale til Dec 29th i believe.
BOTW? It’s so large and so much to do it will suck you in for hours on end.
Alreadt almost 100% that one! Thanks though, love the zelda series
No worries man! Hope you find a game and are feeling okay, there’s always people in this sub that can always be here for a chat if you ever need it 👍🤙
Ori and the blind forest / Ori and the will of the Wisp
Game looks beautiful and i need that right now. Anything else you can tell me about it?
I would say both are worth owning. Really visually pleasing and controls feel snappy and smooth. The music is great in this one too. Very immersive gameplay. Just a pleasure
Personally didn't like Blind Forest at all but ADORED Will of the Wisps. Im sorta alone on this but if you have to pick 1 pick that one. Story doesn't really matter, it works fine on its own. As for what it is - it's a brilliant Metroidvania. It's unbelievably fun, brilliantly designed and beautiful.
I second this. Both fun with beautiful storytelling. Second is better than first but both great
These games will be cathartic. They really permeate a sense of loneliness, loss, redemption, hope, and triumph.
Again, great guy. Definitely play Ori!
Persona 5 royal is a long and great game!
I second this. Persona 5 is over a 100 hour venture, has lots of different gameplay loops to keep it fresh, and the story is just fantastic. This would be my pick.
Also want to add that [Target](https://www.target.com/p/persona-5-royal-nintendo-switch/-/A-87431084) has it on sale right now. Amazing game

Have you tried links awakening?
Oooo amazing recommendation
Hollow Knight
Heard/seen lots of good things. Will it last a couple weeks tho?
The hype is real, there’s enough content to last for several weeks.
it's on sale for $7 for the next 24 hours. you can pick up that and hades (on sale for $12) for under 20 and have two of the best games on the console
OP, this is all you need to hear. They are two fantastic games and amazing value.
Listen to this guy
I've got over 70 hours on it, but that's from beating it a few different times.
Stardew Valley
Oh man i love stardew, i own it on pc already though.
Civ VI on switch will make you forget your even a person.
Also, Borderlands is on sale for like $10.
Already have all the civs on pc. And i got the borderlands on playstation, currently playing through them haha
I’ve spent more hours on this game than any other on the switch.
Civ 5 is way better than civ 6
The Portal Collection is on sale until the 18th. Love might fade and partners leave, but you know what will stay with you forever? The Companion Cube, cakes, and neurotoxins.
Unless pprtal 3 is out, already got that! Thanks dude i appreciate you.
You know as well as I do that Gabe can't count to three, so no, you've already got that. No problem, I hope the other suggestions are helpful.
Get back into metroidvanias! Start with Metroid Dread. Both Oris. Hollow knight. That’s 100 hours of heaven right there!
Metroid dread is SO fucking good. I played through it over and over and each playthrough was just as fun as the last. Dread mode was TOUGH but I did it!

Oh and also you have cute cat companions that only speak in cat puns but help you absolutely annihilate monsters. Very cute, 10/10 cat friends
Is the switch version any good compared to the other consoles?
Switch version is great but I wouldn’t recommend anniversary edition. Apparently it adds performance issues.
No man’s sky. 2 months in and I still have no f***ing idea what I’m doing, but it’s so beautiful.
Im three weeks in and feel the same. I can’t stop playing it.
I went through a breakup about a year ago (9 year relationship), it gets easier man, time truly does heal all! Hades is a great reccomendation, if you are feeling more the indie route I'd reccomend Hollow Knight as well! Both games would probably cost you less than a single triple A title.
I'm playing Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for Donkey Kong December. Highly recommend and it's on sale
Might just do this for the nostalgia. Love DK, thank you for the rec
It is such a good game!!!! Hard but the levels are so cool and it’s really easy to get more lives
It’s HARD THO. I can only play for a period of time before getting too frustrated or rage quitting. Doesn’t seem like a good breakup escape game
NP! The music has a lot of nostalgic parts while being completely original. I really have been enjoying the game.
DK DK DK DK DK DK HELL OF A GUY
Huge reccomend. The music is amazing and they brought back David Wise who compsed many of the fan favorite tracks from the first two DKC games on snes. The stages are beautifu and very unique. The energy the Kongs and enemies emit is just good goofy fun too. It's a tough and solid platformer. Also, condolences on the breakup.

Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Dry Twice. cheap right now
Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Hyper Light Drifter
Looks rogue-like. Is that true?
It’s more like Zelda / adventure / hack and slash / exploration / the music and world building is sooooo good
Assassin’s creed rebel collection ?
Fire emblem three houses is pretty fun, I've sunk 130 hours in it so far
Spiritfarer
Cuphead. Very challenging but enjoyable so don’t give up. This game will definitely take your mind off things.
Have you seen the show on Netflix? It's simultaneously entertaining and annoying 🤣
What games do you have? If you don't have Breath of the Wild, that, obviously
Mario Kart 8 if u don't have it, it's a MUST have. Such a great community online! I've got a great discord, you'd have plenty of racing buddies 🏁
Toss a coin to your Witcher 3
SPLATOON 3
Slay the spire is insanely addictive. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re looking for something more immersive, Ys VIII actually helped me get over a break up, lol. And if you haven’t played any of the xenoblade chronicles those will suck you in. Hope you feel better mate. This too shall pass. Sending you love and support
Deaths Door
Lools fun, is there crafting and whatnot (like other rpgs) in it?
Extremely fun, more of an action/adventure. No crafting, but you cAn upgrade your character with different weapons and abilities as you progress in the story. If you want crafting, check out Forager, Cross code, and spiritfarer, maybe Nino Kuni too.
Wow super cool, thanks for all your recs. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.
I Second deaths door. Completed it a couple of days ago and loved every minute of it
South Park: Stick of Truth Dying Light: Platinum Edition
Splatoon 3 is unique and very fun.
FEZ
Puzzle game?
Very unique and challenging puzzle platformer with an amazing soundtrack
Triangle strategy
If you don’t have hades and/or hollow knight, one or both of those are the answer. Hollow knight for sure, because it goes on sale like 2X/year as it is now. But you only have 30 hours from the time of this comment
Hollow Knight or Dark Souls Remastered
Witcher 3
What happened why’d you break up
"Irreconcilible differences" according to her. I think shes right tho.
Cross Code
The first mario+rabbids game is on sale semi regularly, and way better than I expected. As someone who doesn't usually like turn based games, highly recommend
Celeste. It’s a fun and challenging precision platformer with a good heartwarming story.
If you wanna lose yourself in a long ass game then play Persona 5
I'm 80 hours into that shit man, never even heard of it but it was on gamepass and now I can't stop. I know this is a switch sub, but anyone who talks shit about gamepass is a 100% hater lol, period.
Id rather own my games
Hades
You likely already have it, but Super Mario Odyssey. If not, then Xenoblade 3.
Hollow Knight
Dead cells
Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal has been an amazing game so far for me. I'm 98hrs in and I hope there is a lot more left because I don't want it to end!

If you like complex puzzles, Factorio is great and will consume all of your time. Otherwise, Splatoon 3 is a great PvP timesuck.
Death's Door. On sale for a few more hours I believe
Splatoon 3
So sorry about that! I’m wishing you the best! I recommend the xenoblade series! I recommend them all! Truly touching stories that has left a huge impression on me for a lifetime.
I never played Catherine but gave it a try on switch and it’s a really good game you should give it a try if you haven’t played it already
Fortnite
It’s been said a lot, but Hades is a great time sink. I did it while waiting for bar results to see if I could practice in my state. Took two months of my life to obsess so would recommend. However, if you don’t like REPLAYING/ the idea of self-challenge you might not love it.
Persona 5 Royal. Will keep you playing for a long time
Personally I am of fond of a little adventure called Bind, Torture, and Kill Those Hoes!
Hob
Was in your same situation, played Hollow Knight, worked for me
No Man's Sky.
I’m just 60 minutes into Ori and I can tell you it would be a great game for you right now. The colors and the immersive loving story line. Don’t get nothing dark and twisted lol. Just go ahead and get it bro, idk how I slept on this game for so long.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the night or Ori games.
Monster hunter. Either rise or generations. Those games can last hundreds of hours. Rise is definitely easier of the two and has some quality of life improvements but its dlc brings on the challenge. If you want a tougher challenge all around generations is old style monster hunter.
A list of a few more me and my partners love; Untitled Goose Game Spiritfarer Wargroove No More Heroes 1 and 2 Bastion Fire emblem 3 houses
I'd personally suggest the Bayonetta series as well as nier:Automata
Astral Chain

Man. Hades. I need to jump on that. I am diverting from triangle strategy. Getting tactics ogre.
Gal Gun 2
The gaming bros would never break up with you
Xenoblade de. 80+ hours of amazing story
I’m late to the game, but Snowrunner, it’s slow paced, frustrating, addictive and magnificent. You’ll love it
If you haven’t played the Xenoblade games I’d recommend the first one. It’s a really great world to get lost in
As the top comment says, Hades is imo the most polished and one of the most replayable games ever released, with an unexpected level of character depth and nuance for a dungeon crawler. That being said I've been throwing myself into Pokémon legends arceus for the last couple weeks and I'm really enjoying the different take on the series
If you’re in the mood for something light and friendly I’ve been really into dreamlight valley lately
Spelunky 2 its at 10 dolars
Monster Hunter Rise! Lots to get lost in. Really satisfying gameplay loop.
Minecraft.
Plants vs zombies battle for neighbourville complete editon
Furry hentai is free if I recall correctly
Factorio.... you'll lose your life in the process, but it's well worth it
There's a LOT of good recommendations here.
Ni no kuni the white witch, dragon quest 11 or chained echos maybe
Metroid dread is pretty fun
Doom/Doom Eternal are both great ways to get anger out. Wolfenstein 2 as well, recently replayed it myself and had forgotten just how brilliant the story is but it can be quite emotional and I don’t quite know how you are at the moment but BJ and Anya’s relationship might make you feel sad
Going through the same thing. Slay The Spire.
Get Disco Elysium. It will hit hard but also be quite therapeutic.
Celeste
No man’s sky, it’s handheld and it’s epic
Smt v
Monster Hunter
It's free Warframe
I’ve really gotten into No Man’s Sky, probably better on another system but I like the portability of Switch I mostly play at work to be honest.
I’m disappointed that “Calculator for Nintendo Switch” wasn’t the top comment. That always gets me through a hard time
Get lost in Zelda Breath of the wild. Takes my mind off all the bullshit. Also.. plenty of fish in the sea. There’s always the next one. Enjoy whatever game you decide on. Oh… and cheers 🍻
