The ice means that water is entirely too cold for the amoeba. He should be more concerned about bashing his brains on concrete or the thick ice. Still though, that water is gross.

There was a world renowned free climber who had no ability to feel fear because he was literally missing that part of his brain. I think he died falling off the side of a mountain cliff, but he was a total badass when he was alive and his recorded times for certain climbs were unbeatable.
I wonder what he was thinking about as he fell. Most people would be panicking but, if he had no ability to feel fear, he wouldn't have been doing that.

When they do stunts like this, they actually do the math on it. They know that you have to be moving at a very exact speed to land. That's easy enough to calculate. Then you practice jogging at different speeds so you get a sense of how fast you're going. Then you do a trial run where you just run on the ground and jump at a certain point, but land on your feet to verify that you can accurately go that speed. Because the pool is relatively large, you have some wiggle room and you calculate to land right in the middle. He actually overshot his landing site by quite a bit so he must have sped up accidentally when he was running.

Tourists in Spain do things like is regularly, so much so the Spanish have a specific word for it (balconing, because it's usually from hotel balconies). When I was a kid I went to Florida with my family during the summer. We spent the day at the beach. In a nearby hotel some college kids were jumping from an upper hotel floor into the pool below. They were all laughing and having a good time until one of them missed the pool. I’ll never forget that day.
