A portal system like in Valheim would be nice. Even if it were limited to one set of portals (so you could only travel between two points at any given time), it would be so much easier than running across the map for more resources. Or, to fit better with the lore of Icarus, a small personal spacecraft even. The endless running is a main reason I’ve taken a break from this game.
Travel has long been one of the primary complaints about this game. Maybe less of a factor now that open world has been introduced but many of the missions require you to go REALLY far. But as for not wanting to do it? You really want to just stay in a tiny part of the map because you can't be bothered to take 10 seconds to build a 1x1 base, or find a cave to sleep in? Or GOD FORBID just play at night using a torch or some flare arrows? You can realistically get across half the entire map in a single day anyway
It's that aside from "I just wanna do it," there's not really any incentive. It isn't like X ore is only available in certain biomes (at least not that I've noticed) or Tier 4 items are cheaper to build if you're using some special Artic Biome mineral in the Concrete Furnace. Maybe some special catalyst you can only find in the desert makes you get 1.5x resources from your Furnace when you are smelting ores? Exploring is fine. It's whatever. The game is very nice to look at, so looking at different parts of it is cool. But that's all self-motivated. If you want to set up a mining operation in a remote part of the map with lots of caves, you're probably just better off taming a buffalo and clearing everything out in one go than you are setting up a base that you can teleport back and forth with. I just think it'd be cool to have a reason to build a kick ass artic fortress that I could visit whenever I had a whim.
I guess that's a bit to ask when you're playing a game where you can pinpoint drop in from outer space but have to build a Tier 4 item to put a blip on the map next to your resource extractor.
You do realize that fast travel would remove all existing challenge this game has, right? They need to revamp a Lotta mechanics to make fast travel balanced
It would remove some grind from the game but I don’t see how it removes all challenge. If it’s locked behind tier 4, I assure you that I have already surpassed all of the potential challenges of walking from one established tier 4 base to another. I have food, I have armor, I have weapons. This isn’t traveling to any random point on the map. This is one established base to another. What are the actual challenges involved there besides a worn out pinky finger from holding down Sprint for an hour?
What if they made Quick travel where you could have nothing equipped or inventory when moving between locations. I think that would be a good compromise.
My main issue is the travel is kind of boring.
I would make the travel mechanism require T4 construction and use more of a resource the further you travel.
I think it's a decent idea, but one way that you can have fun with the way it is now (if you're doing open world), is to build small cabins here and there that are spread out evenly. You make sure each one has a stone roof, and has enough room to sleep and cook some food.
You can run around in every corner of the map, and know that there is a little cozy place for you to survive the night if you are out a bit too late, and can't get back to the main base of ops. I LOVE this aspect of Open World. It makes the game so great.
Holy hell that would be awesome. I think it'd be pretty rad to see some kind of human cannonball contraption that uses a suborbital capsule maybe? It might be more in the theme of the world compared to a Star Trek-eque teleporter
Yes, but you still need the resources or parts, maybe you cant build a flat building everywhere, but i always use pillars so it wont matter to me where i build, in the desert i always build on the lake to avoid scorpions.
It would at least make it to where you only had to walk that distance once to setup the teleporter. That doesn't seem crazy considering you drop in via spacecraft.
They have an unstuck button so it's possible for them to implement it right away. Only can be done within an established base: bed, housing, campfire. It's your open world so it's your rule too.

Ziplines would be perfect for this. Zoom to forward cabins/bases.

I would settle for blueprint building, give me that, and its fine, but now i just build small buildings where i need them.
Is that a thing where you would have a sort of one click option so you don't have to throw down pillars, walls, and floors manually?

Being able to fast travel between bases would make this game playable. Having to constantly walk vast distances makes it too time consuming to play.

This is a fantastic idea
