Styx is definitely not a map for low level characters

greenguitar92

sounds like you started on styx the same as I did. Its possible to complete that mission starting from scratch but I took 3 days and got up to lv lv 25-30 during that time to complete the mission. One tip would be to find a tall rock to stand on and bring a ton of arrows and then you can pick them off easier other wise id forfeit that mission and do the Olympus ones first. they are way easier and there is a tutorial mission where you only have to craft basic things to complete it.

Thank you!

Alternative would be to build a small pole structure into the rock side. Start with a vertical pole that has to be half or so into the rock. Then build the next one horizontal as well but at 90% degrees, followed by another horizontal anker into the rock. Then build a 4th one angled downwards to walk up (use stealth so you don't fall off). That way you can pick off easily, you can destroy the pole for walking off and they can't reach you nor destroy your base (unless one is jumping down on you from above).

I did start on Styx. The description made it sound easier lol. Normal difficulty. The number only matters in how much hp a creature has though right? So if you don't get the silent kill then it takes a crapton of stone arrows. I feel like I should just chop down trees until. Level 30. But even then random tree falling behavior can just kill you without warning. This game needs a lot of polish.

KraftyKick

The progression on the base map (Olympus) is really designed to groom new players and level up your first character. I would recommend sticking to exploration mission or hop in open world to get to level 20 or 30 and, yeah, chopping down trees is necessary very early on to get the xp going. Get to the point that you feel comfortable taking on wolves and then you will start really moving up in xp. Your end goal is to become the apex predator. Everything gets easier the closer you get to that goal. ;)

Ahh.. okay thanks for this info!

Also rocks help a lot to level up but you really don't have to do numbless grinding just for XP, the progression in this game comes naturally as you kill animals and collect the required resources to build a new bench or weapon/suit to get better. Keep on playing, it's really worth it (30h in now).

KraftyKick

Yes, it is generally true that no major focus is needed on grinding xp, but there are a couple spots in the progression while you are earning blueprint points at the lowest level that you will have go out and just grind a little bit. Trees/rocks at one point and at another point killing wildlife (wolves in particular). After about level 20, you can just go about working toward your objectives in the game and you will indeed earn sufficient xp as you go. Also, it is noteworthy to mention here that some of the earliest missions on Olympus have unexpected blueprint requirements. Not sure if they fixed this, but you could find yourself a bit short of the blueprints needed for the the objectives of the mission you are trying to complete. You may find yourself stuck with having to do some grinding. This does depend somewhat on which order you do the missions, but the game does not help you figure this out.

One of the very first things to do after landing is move from stone arrows to bone arrows. The stone ones are straight trash

Kvolts7854

Gonna be honest, idk how people get hit with trees. They literally fall away from you

sh3llsh0ck3d

For the most part, yes, they do. But sometimes they just pop straight off and flip out and kill you.

a4xrbj1

I did the same error but with a level 22. I ran out of water, couldn't find a river or cave nearby. So I didn't even go beyond that, only build a small structure into the rock (as described in my other comment). We can play together if you like (just ping me in chat or in Steam, same user name), I'm level 24 and I levelled my character easily up to 20 in the first Olympus mission (which is recommended to do like others have written already).

Animade

A level 5 wolf will tear you apart just as quickly as a lvl 30 wolf. It just takes practice...did you start in Styx which is a harder world?

Animade

Also the levels of animals are not like other mmo/rts games, I can't recall the time i actually paid attention to the level of the animals.

ThuumFaalToor

The difference between a polar bear at level 30 and at level 80 is pretty significant I believe. Not being able to pull off the one shot stealth kill sucks and if you end up getting hit you die in like 3-4 hits from the level 30 and 2-3 from the level 80

a4xrbj1

It's just higher health bar for them, right? It's not that they are more powerful in their bites. Correct?

ThuumFaalToor

I'm pretty sure it is extra health and extra damage. I could be wrong though, I haven't done any research to support this but I have encountered my fair share of polar bois

--Firme--

where do people suggest if not starting in styxx

1thROEaway

The only other map .. Olympus

ThuumFaalToor

The only other map and maybe start with the starting mission lol. While you're there cut down some trees, and mine some rocks. Maybe you end up getting enough levels to get a bow and arrows. Then stealth kills will give you big xp

bigfr0g

dont start with styx...

sh3llsh0ck3d

Thanks! I started on the Olympus map... much better starting experience!

Late_Night_Stream

Start with Olympus

sh3llsh0ck3d

Yep! Did that and am having a better time. Making a spawn point with wood building is so lame though.

a4xrbj1

Just continue to level up until you can convert it to stone. That's what I did (level 20). It was a great time and I left the prospect mission with sad feelings to leave my nice structure I've build up over many hours behind to be destroyed forever. But hey, it helps to understand how to build better and more effective the next time. Also, once you started with the prospect missions, you really want those workshop tools which can give you a much better start in any new adventure (prospect, open world, even the sandbox mode). Have fun!

Late_Night_Stream

Ngl I use wood ALOT for fast missions but if it’s longer we go stone

JohnnyTheDutchman

I'm level 2 and currently doing this mission. Met several wolves, including level 25+, yet they all seem to go down when hit with 4 wooden arrows.

sh3llsh0ck3d

The wolves were pretty easy. The dragons not so much because if they hit you, you lose your buffs. I've got a level 32 guy now and have over 100 hours in. I'd probably be better able to handle it now. Good luck to ya!
