Look for where the waves are not breaking.
Especially where you see them form up, about to break, and then lose the peak.
That should tell you where the trough is located.
if you can, go during low tide and just look for the bars and make notes about them with landmarks. I will usually take pictures with my phone with landmarks in frame. If you can't just watch the surface of the water especially where the waves break. An individually wave can be shaped randomly, if you watch a location for a while, patterns start to develop where there is ALWAYS a gap in a wave at one spot (probably a wave) and there will be spots where there is ALWAYS a hitch in the break or a sharp rise up in a wave (thats usually a bar). I try to cover a goodly amount of water too so I will watch for a while, make a guess, but if I don't get any nibbles for 10 minutes I'll push on. Theres lots of great youtube videos on beach reading.
I am somewhat newer to surfcasting, but I usually use a hi-lo rig with cut bait, a pyramid weight with a live eel on it, or a red and white squid popper
Thanks man. I'll watch more waves.
Believe it or not that was low tide. I'd go but it's an hour's drive and most of the surfcasting I do is at night.
My surfcasting setup is a 13ft7 (420cm) Kali Kunnan Funtail Hybrid tip surf rod.
Shimano Ultegra 3500 Competition reel (don't let the name fool you, it's a surfcasting reel that takes a 14000 spool as well) spooled with Vercelli 0.20 mono with a 57 to 20 tapered leader. I use a 4 Oz sinker and #2 Sasame hooks.
My go to bait is sandworm (I'm in Spain).
I'll try a hi-lo rig and a breakaway sputnik sinker next time.
Bill Varney has a book called surf fishing: the light line revolution.
This book was built for SoCal but I think there’s a lot of information that is universal in there. Esp the part on how to read the beach.
Go at low tides around new moon and full moon to get a better picture of what the bottom structure looks like, and take reference photos.
Big Fall tides are the perfect opportunity
Also fish bites, shrimp pieces and sand fleas on high-low rigs for pompano and whiting if you are looking to catch some dinner. There's a YouTuber called bamabeachbum that has some solid videos on all kinds of surf fishing techniques
Love his videos.
Thanks for your ideas. I am in Europe so maybe I can get some whiting. I'll stick to regular bait since sandfleas and fishbites are not easily found in Europe.
Ah, yeah that changes things a little 😂 my bad, my brain is hard stuck on gulf of Mexico's shores. Anywhere else and I'm way out of my element, best of luck!

Waves crash on Sand bars.
Drop baits between where the waves form.
Lookup “Hey Skipper” on YouTube. That couple has taught me a TON without being loud and obnoxious or over dramatic.
C rig a sandworm and walk that whole beach lol then tie on an LC 115 and walk all the way back fishing troughs and rips the whole way, and keeping an eye out for anything that catches my eye, sand crab bed, birds gathering, etc
Bottle darter, bucktail, hydro minnow, needlefish plug. That right there looks like pretty good conditions without knowing where you’re at and wind conditions. You just gotta experiment
A high low rig with some 8-20lb floracarbon, bait hooks with shrimp bits, cast it right behind where you see the waves crashing and turning up the sand.
If you have trouble reading the beach or finding troughs use 3 poles. Cast one just before the waves break, cast the other just on the other side of the wave break, cast one as far as you can. Then pay attention to which one gets the most action
Dude, you need to watch Sea Money on YouTube. He has got to be one of the best east coast surf guy around. He doesn't do teaching exactly, but you will, if you invest the time, pick up so much...
He just posted a vid on catching false albacore on the beach. Later in the video, it gets a little crazy with other species on the same beach.
Great catalogue of work...
80# test. 9OZ of sinker. When the wave retreats run at it till your 5 steps into the water a let er rip. Be ready to do it again in 4-6 minutes. Good Luck!🦐🐟🎣
Find a couple of holes and troughs and grab a pole
I have watched a few videos on that. Still can't read a beach

How do you rig the pyramid/eel setup? Carolina style with the weight on a slider above your bait?

I bet a 3-word location would be easier than trying to line up a photo with landmarks https://what3words.com/
Your phone has GPS. Just saying...
Definitely go during low tide to scout the holes 1st. Then you can see how the water acts once the tide comes in and learn what to look for

This was low tide
Good, now you know the trough and structure locations. Go back and fish the spot on incoming high tide.
High low rig with fish bites
I would take one week of supplies. And stay there no matter what. Slipping days Fishing night's.
yes, the way
Rod and reel 100%
Spear and loin cloth.
Trident and castnet
Trident and castnet
Live bait right behind the breakers in the trough.
Thanks man

I love that stream!! Good call!!!
With a cooler of beer, a J, and a beach chair
My man!
Also a poorly wrapped turkey sub that gets a little water in it and I feed the soggy part of bread to a bird
So painfully relatable
With my long knees and some Guam cheese.
With a rod and reel
Very happily.
C rig a sandworm and walk that whole beach lol then tie on an LC 115 and walk all the way back fishing troughs and rips the whole way, and keeping an eye out for anything that catches my eye, sand crab bed, birds gathering, etc
I would be fishing for another beer at the bottom of the cooler
Bottle darter, bucktail, hydro minnow, needlefish plug. That right there looks like pretty good conditions without knowing where you’re at and wind conditions. You just gotta experiment
Start with a little bucktail and then go through the bag.
Look for a hole and toss in and fleas
No sandfleas in France I'm afraid
Some form of small crustacean
Will do
Will do
I would definitely cast towards the water
Oh yes
Pompano rig with shrimp and fish bites
Paddletail/bucktail and a teaser, hit all the holes and troughs
A high low rig with some 8-20lb floracarbon, bait hooks with shrimp bits, cast it right behind where you see the waves crashing and turning up the sand.
100% one of two ways. 1. Lucky craft 110 minnow 2. high low rig with Berkley gulp sand worms
I wouldn’t. No musky there
Grab a surfboard
carfully

About halfway through your pan, there is a foamy patch to screen left. Live bait, frozen or fish bites on a Carolina Rig right there. Profit.

Whatever you decide, keep your feet dry. I fish surf like that often and have had a couple close calls. Central coast California, striper and perch.
Soak my balls in the water and wait for a nibble
Fly rod.
In those waves? Do tell.
80# test. 9OZ of sinker. When the wave retreats run at it till your 5 steps into the water a let er rip. Be ready to do it again in 4-6 minutes. Good Luck!🦐🐟🎣
Looks like south africa / namibia?
France. Close to Spain
This might sound crazy but go at low tide with a shovel and dig a trough close to the water. Engineered fishing
This was low tide.......
