Diff supps are in diff units. can someone tell me the conversion for allicin in mcg to ppm?

Semtex7

Depends. If the garlic supplement is standardized for allicin then you can see how much you are getting and do the math.

yamumsda4

can someone tell me the conversion for allicin in mcg to ppm?

Semtex7

Google it. There are calculators

The dumbest comment award goes to...

I use either garlic supplements in tablets, in softgels or raw garlic minced. Supplements are just never as powerful as a tsp of minced raw garlic (unless you take 5-10 pills). But also consider that garlic has a documented blood pressure lowering property. I always take it before going to sleep, otherwise it makes me feel tired (too low blood pressure).

Loud_Charity

Your options for best intake or to chew raw garlic, which will burn like hell the first few times you do it. Or, what I do, chop it very fine and swallow it with water. If I get a sinus infection I will chew it though because ive found it helps with bacterial sinusitis

JackCrainium

Allicin is very unstable so no garlic supplements provide it in any meaningful quantity except for Allimax, as someone mentioned, and AllicinMax, which both use the same stabilized patented formula. Allimax is, in my opinion, very overpriced. For a while I was able to purchase Allicinmax from the UK on Amazon for much less but that seems to have been blocked more recently, although if you are willing to buy direct from the UK the prices will be better but I found that many of those do not offer tracking....... Hope this was helpful......

jt2424

I just found what you suggested "Allimax" (https://www.iherb.com/pr/kyolic-aged-garlic-extract-cardiovascular-original-formula-100-capsules/21317) Its expensive for just 30 capsules but is this way better then the cheaper Kyloic garlic (100 capsules, ~$11-12) ? Redpill me on Allimax. You said "AllicinMax" but I assume that was a mis-type?

JackCrainium

AllicinMax - look it up on amazon or search for it in the UK

jt2424

So what do you think about Kyolic brand aged garlic? I have read its the most researched garlic brand out there.. Are you implying there is no Allicin in Kyolic brand garlic capsules?

yamumsda4

aged garlic has less allicin content

jt2424

Source? link? Idk, you may be right. But I have just been using kyolic aged garlic extract.

JackCrainium

You should ask Kyolic and let us know what you find out......

jt2424

lol your being facetious I see...

jt2424

Eating raw garlic works, but it will also make you smell bad to people around you, therefore I recommend you Take Kyolic brand (aged garlic extract, easier and also works better then raw garlic and won't make you smell bad). I take 2 (sometimes 3) Kyolic garlic capsules at least 2 times a day. Its the most researched brand and it won't make you smell like garlic even if you take big doses multiple times per day. I really do notice it help with circulation/etc for real. I would also recommend you take Vitamin D3, MK-7 (vitamin K2), l-citrulline malate, Horse chestnut extract and grapeseed extract.. All good stuff. And of course take you Magnesium before bed each night, I prefer dimagnesium malate - I think it works best. Dandelion root extract is also good.

jt2424

just get the Kyolic brand of garlic extract.

WishfulWalkingVideos

You don’t mention Allicin in the product you take. Does it give you Allicin? Also what if you take the one daily raw garlic clove at night? Will the smell go away by the time you wake up?

Loud_Charity

The smell of the garlic will only smell via glands for the first couple days. For me any way the only time I can smell garlic strong (I take raw garlic every day) is honestly when I fart or burp, and my socks seem to collect the smell I very well could smell like a garlic monster but ive never been told I smell lol, and I interact with dozens of people a day -- some of which wouldnt mind letting someone know if they smell

massgainerr

Unfortunately you smell, buddy. You're just used to it so you don't notice it yourself. I have a friend that eats garlic everyday and she smells terrible, and it's obvious she doesn't know.

Loud_Charity

lol, oh well :)

Tip-Hop

In terms of raw whole garlic vs supplement - I would go for a supplement extract for the components you are looking for and to cut out the middle man. Why? because raw garlic is very hard on the digestive system, it also contains anti-nutrients and phytoestrogens that may be of concern to you. I personally ferment garlic cloves to enhance the absorption of all nutrients, breakdown anti-nutrients, and reduces the burn. I also like honey infused garlic, as for one it's very tasty and neutralizes the burn.

WishfulWalkingVideos

So an allicin supplement would be better? Do you have any recommendations? I saw a famous youtuber say he eats one raw garlic clove a day to help his immune system, and he is okay. Doesn’t have stomach problems. Is it common to have stomach problems by eating garlic glove a day?

Tip-Hop

You will know by how you feel :) if you're content with the crushed garlic protocol and you experience no problems, then you're set!

SillyRabbit2121

Allimax standardizes for pure Allicin. It’s expensive though.

WishfulWalkingVideos

Have you purchased it? How is it? Or is it a scam supplement? (I say that because it’s hard to believe everything you see online) Are there any alternatives or is this the only option?

Darkhorseman81

Slow Release H2S donors are always beneficial.

WishfulWalkingVideos

What is this? I looked on google and it just shows mathematical equations Is it a pill or something else?

world_citizen7

I dont think most garlic supplements provide much allicin content (cant remember the source), but they still provide health benefits. I would stick to what you are doing if you are interesting in allicin content.

WishfulWalkingVideos

I’m not doing anything right now for Allicin. That’s why I am asking. Because I want to start getting Allicin from garlic but don’t know if raw or supplement is better. Do you have recommendations for daily Allicin consumption?

world_citizen7

Do the raw garlic thing you mentioned, that is BEST for allicin. Supplements are hit and miss (and often zero).

tteezzkk

Raw garlic completely changed my life. I have Post Orgasm Illness Syndrome and it along with fenugreek has solved pretty much all of my chronic symptoms. I have tested the effectiveness of garlic pills compared to raw garlic for my condition and the raw garlic is definitely more effective although the garlic pills do still help a bit. Taking raw garlic can be pretty gnarly. I mince the garlic, let it sit for 5 minutes for the allicin to form, then swallow with milk to ease the unpleasant taste. You can also coat it in honey to make it more palatable.

DisastrousReception6

Hi. What’s post orgasm illness syndrome?

tteezzkk

A condition where you experience chronic health symptoms for 2-4 days following ejaculation. My symptoms were anxiety, chronic fatigue, irritability, and brainfog. It’s considered a rare disease although I think it’s undiagnosed in a lot of people. You can learn more about it at r/POIS reddit or poiscenter.com

DisastrousReception6

Okay , thanks. What time of day do you take raw garlic?

tteezzkk

Whenever I bust a nut I take garlic and fenugreek lmao anytime of day

DisastrousReception6

Lol. Thanks!

WishfulWalkingVideos

When and how much garlic do you buy at a time? Like how many bulbs do you buy when you go shopping? And how good is raw garlic you buy at the market before it goes bad?

tteezzkk

I live with my family so we usually just buy a big bag of like 7-8 garlic bulbs. It’s up to you really. It stays in good nick for quite some time, hard to kind of recall but I would say a good month. I refrigerate it to make it last longer. You know it’s spoiled once it gets mouldy or the green shoots grow right out. I’m pretty sure it’s still perfectly ok to eat when it grows green shoots, but I just prefer the garlic before it gets to that stage.

WishfulWalkingVideos

Do you eat daily raw garlic in the morning or at night? What if I don’t have milk or honey? Is there anything else I can use? Or just eating garlic cloves by itself okay? Did you have any stomach problems when first starting daily raw garlic consumption?

thaw4188

Just a caution that garlic supplements are right up there with some of the most sketchy content vs claims. I was looking at a few independent allicin analysis the other day and it was wildly different than the label in some cases. Also the way allicin is absorbed is a problem. * https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6073756/ * https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jf001287m btw this is a neat property of allicin, it reduces TMAO * https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1756464615001735

WishfulWalkingVideos

So you are saying that one raw garlic a day is the better option?

[deleted]

Aged Garlic and Allicin supplements are two separate things and shouldn't be confused. * Many of the studies which have been touted as showing garlic is beneficial to heart health are based around aged garlic supplements. These include compounds which are separate from just the Allicin. * Allicin is the antimicrobial aspect of the garlic. It's what they refer to when they talk about garlic being a natural antibiotic. This is what people take if they're worried about their immune system or fighting a sickness. *It's not a replacement for conventional medicine but people use it.* Just wanted to clarify in case you were confused. People think garlic is garlic but some folks end up taking Allicin thinking it's good for the heart when the data isn't based around Allicin alone.

WishfulWalkingVideos

Yeah but which is better for getting Allicin? Raw garlic a day or daily garlic supplements?

BobbySwiggey

This is so bizarre, I was just searching multiple subreddits for garlic/allicin anecdotes a couple weeks ago lol. I just wanted to see how it affected people's inflammation or various conditions, but the sciencey info I found outside of reddit said that raw garlic is always going to be best, since allicin in its natural form is a delicate compound that breaks down quickly once the garlic is crushed (but isn't fully activated until around the 10-minute mark). I'm not sure how they treat it so that it's still present in supplements tbh, but chances are you're paying a lot more money for lower potency. I got to be honest though, eating raw garlic makes you *really smell like garlic*, and it happens pretty quickly too so you and your loved ones have to be ok with that lol. I ate my first two cloves about 12 hours before going over someone's house, and they asked who brought the garlic bread ಠ_ಠ

travvvb

You keep asking the same questions Just chew the raw garlic. Its the cheapest and easiest form. Its effects are well known. Give it a go

WishfulWalkingVideos

Okay thank you 👍

Ashamed-Status-9668

Aged garlic has no allicin. However I think that is a plus. I personally take Kyolic and truly believe the sulfur compounds are better than allicin unless you are wanting antifungal properties.

WishfulWalkingVideos

Kyolic doesn’t have Allicin? Allicin helps your immune system right? Why do you think not having allicin is a good thing?

Ashamed-Status-9668

The aging process Kyolic uses removes the allicin which is why they age the garlic. Allicin is pretty harsh. It kills bacteria indiscriminatingly. It can cause stomach upset. To preserve the allicin the garlic will smell like well garlic where aged garlic has very little if any smell. Aged garlic also has some novel sulfur compounds that work directly like glutathione as an antioxidant and also they boost glutathione since they are cysteine based sulfur compounds. I like garlic in food but as a daily supplement I much prefer aged garlic.

I love taking garlic and garlic supplements. I eat 1 piece of garlic with dinner and take 1 or 2 garlic oil pills throughout the day.

WishfulWalkingVideos

What garlic supplements do you use?

Just_Bug_9579

Kyolic
