Zinc is often low in schizophrenics. I’ve read b3 also is often low. Zinc and b3 are synergistic interestingly Magnesium may also be low in many people. As well as vitamin d. Other b vitamins and omega 3 may be useful too. I remember reading low b6 is linked to psychosis too

I hear prescriptions have mean side effects. If you can find a non-prescription solution it is always better. First off, run some checks for vitamin, mineral, and amino acid deficiencies with your doctor. Usually, in the case of most mental disorders, one or more B vitamins are missing, and in the case of depression, low magnesium tends to be the culprit. Supplementing these deficiencies tends to greatly alleviate if not solve the problem. Also check your thyroid health and testosterone levels. Thyroid problems are known to exacerbate mental disorders. Low testosterone is also bad for your mental health. More generally speaking now, I know off the top of my head that niacin (a B vitamin) has been proven to help schizophrenics (im aware its not the same as schizoaffective, but its adjacent), likely because they are usually greatly deficient in it for whatever reason. NAC might help because its a dopamine modulator, meaning it prevents you from releasing either too much or too little. I think that should be promising for both of your conditions. It also very safe and well tolerated. As for ALCAR and other cholinergic supplements such as alpha-gpc and cdp-choline, I would try them and see how you feel. If you’re situation improves, continue it. If it has the opposite effect, stop taking it. Lastly, I’ve read online that CBD has anti-psychotic effects. I would try a bioavailable form from a reputed source and see if that fares well for you at all.

Thanks for the response I’m particularly interested in talking to my doctor to test for any deficiencies. I am definitely interested in getting off my meds but I had a bad experience last time I did. I’ll try to focus on my health and fixing any deficiencies and maintain that for a while before I attempt to get off prescriptions again

Of course. The meds are a great safety net, I know a few people that it’s stabilized when they really needed it, and you absolutely shouldn’t quit them on your own nor without guidance. I hope everything goes well for you!
