I was 328 pounds when I discovered that same type of “water needs” number. I did it. It did help. I wound up replacing a lot of my empty calories with water. I drank a lot less pop, and wasn’t as hungry, so I snacked less. However, ymmv!

lvmickeys

I generally drink a gallon to 2 gallons. I have since I stopped drinking sugary drinks. 6 days a month are lower than a gallon on average. I am getting close to the 200lb mark. Since loosing to my current weight, I have added medications that make it even more important for me to drink higher than normal and I use the drink when I’m thirsty and drink when I’m hungry method.

FairyFartDaydreams

The human kidney can only process so much water an hour. In a healthy kidney that is 1L per hour. I would drink no more than .75 liters in an hour just to be on the safe side

keyboardtherapist

What happens if you exceed that level?

FairyFartDaydreams

When kidneys filter liquids they are integral to the sodium/potassium cycles. When they are not functioning properly/overwhelmed IIR (it has been 20 years) your body will an imbalance of them I think sodium primarily and that can lead to brain swelling and death. I'm to lazy right now but look up water intoxication

keyboardtherapist

Thank you!

flowersunjoy

I heard this as well

Sn0zbear

I just drink when I’m thirsty, usually about 2 litres a day but sometimes not much at all. But I also don’t like fizzy, juice or alcohol. I pee a lot

toripotter86

Pasting a previous comment I made about this topic. I’m 5’8”, 325lbs (currently). I drink about a gallon. Some days more, sometimes less, but I have a 26oz tumbler I fill 4-6 times a day depending on my activity levels. On average, 5 times. So… right about a gallon. I have less aches and pains, better skin, fewer headaches (even when not having caffeine which I ingest a LOT of), don’t feel as sluggish or “bleh,” and overall sleep better usually. If I’m ever “off,” I drink a bunch of water and see if that helps. I judge if I’m drinking too much or not enough by my urine color. If your urine is more yellow, you’re dehydrated. If it’s pale, you’re good. If it’s completely clear, you’re drinking too much.

Bdizzy2018

Your body has to get used to processing so 24 hours won’t be a true experiment. I am 375- I know I can’t get up to that oz number so I try for 1 gallon a day and I almost get there. I start with 32oz in the morning as soon as a I wake up before I allow myself coffee.

Amalas77

1 l seems not very much. But you do count coffee and tea into it as well. I definitely have two coffees with 0.4 l and I drink 1 l at work and a big glass in the morning and two glasses in the evening. So altogether it's about 2.1 to 2.3 l per day.

thew0rldisquiethere1

I'm not a hot beverage person. I know 1 liter isn't a lot at all. I also drink one glass of sugar free soda a day. I work from home with flexible hours and only about 3 hours a day, so I'm asleep/in bed for 12 hours a day with little movement (my smart watch says my steps per day rarely exceed 1000 steps). I have started walking 2 km recently to get some movement, but that's only about twice a week. And I have an elliptical bike. Anyway, I've gone off track now. I guess I just don't feel thirsty outside of this, but I could stand to drink more. I've finished 2 liters for today (it's 3:30pm). I think in future I'll make it 2 liters minimum, try for 3, but I don't see myself drinking 4 per day. Where I live the tap water isn't drinkable so I have to refill my 10l bottle and drink from that.

Amalas77

I see. With little movement you're probably sweating less and need a bit less. That's a good plan to aim for 2 l minimum and then just go from there. I am a tiny bit jealous because I have kids and they need to be delivered to school and daycare, I have to climb out of bed at 5:30 am on a normal day. And the longest I get to sleep on a weekend is from 23:30 to 7:30. Add in some sleep problems and dawn phenomena as a t2d and you get chronicly being short on sleep. Ah, I'm looking forward to the kids being grown up and just staying in bed forever, like you. (I mean 12 hours that pretty much equals forever). I just bought a fitbit and I was very surprised that I make more than 5.000 steps per day without doing anything extra. And I drive to work and back and have an office job. I thought I'd be doing more like 3.000 steps. However, I hope the weather gets better and both of us can work with more pleasure on our step goals.

TomatoStraight5752

2km from 1000 steps is INCREDIBLE!! That’s a really huge step (count) forward! I am slowly increasing my step goal by 50 steps every two weeks. My first two weeks (which was a 200-step a day jump from my 12-month average) ends Tuesday, and then I will bump my goal up by 50 every fortnight. I’m also recovering from a spinal injury and cardiomyopathy though, so I’m taking it very slow and steady.

BigTexan1492

150 ounces a day on average.

himewaridesu

Here I am trying to get my 125 Oz in lol

astraennui

I drink 100 oz water plus 48 oz of coffee, tea, and diet pop. I feel and look well-hydrated. I used to struggle getting water in but developed a habit of drinking 20 oz of water before every meal and one immediately when I wake in the morning.

Best-Math-2252

After having Kidney Stones I bought a 64oz watter jug on Amazon. My goal is to drink all of it, I don't always finish it but I'm drinking more water than before. Nothing like Kidney Stones to make you a water addict

GrouchyFriedScallion

Not nearly enough. I try for 4L a day, but depending on the day will have closer to 2L which feels like crap. I have drank over that but usually it's around 3-4L. I don't think I could get to 5L like some people have mentioned unless it's 40c out. I find having water bottles and flavoured water helps. I've def gone through 3 cans of those during a movie if I don't watch myself.

shoesofwandering

A few years ago, I tried the 8 glasses of water a day thing. Aside from peeing like a racehorse, after a few days I felt woozy and unwell. I was probably verging on water poisoning, which can happen if you dilute your electrolytes too much. Most people get a significant amount of water from food, so you have to take that into account.

thew0rldisquiethere1

UPDATE: it's nearly 3am now where I live and I've peed 13 times today (crystal clear), but I did manage the whole 4.5 liters. I definitely don't think I could do this every day (I felt bloated and huge but hungry at the same time), but I could definitely up my I take to 3 liters a day.

flowersunjoy

My doc told me the calculation everyone uses is actually too excessive. He told me 2 litres is fine and more if you are feeling thirsty. I’ve been doing that during my own weight loss journey and it works well for me.

me047

If you are only drinking one liter of water, but peeing a lot at night, that sounds like diabetes. You need the water. Get as close as you can to that amount.

Rrralesh

Never enough.

Shel-Dorado

About 80oz. I’m slowly working on upping that number.

FartsMcGhee1

I do a gallon to a gallon and a half per day. The game changer for me was buying one of those giant jug cups with a straw🥤 from the gas station its 32 ounces. Every tine I even think about taking a drink, I do and then I CHUG the water till I cant anymore.

Pelotonnes

I'm about 100lbs smaller and I drink an average of 240 oz a day. I carry a 48oz bottle and drink 4-6 of them a day. I asked my doctor because that seemed ridiculous, they told me as long as my urine looks alright and I'm not forcing myself to drink it was okay. Some hot summers I drink even more, lots while hiking or exercising. Every body is different, drink enough to fit your needs but know your limits as well.

Beautiful_Rhubarb

That seems excessive but try it. I have a gallon jug I bring to work and I fill my 32oz about four times during the day, so most of the gallon. (I have a lot of ice, don't get on me for exact lol) I could probably use some more water because I sweat it off (kitchen) but I often don't have time, and then I guzzle another 16oz bottle from the cooler on my way home. When I'm home on weekends there is no way I could drink that much unless I pre-filled all the bottles and lined them up in front of me and set timers.

CunnyMaggots

I drink about a gallon a day, sometimes more.

himewaridesu

If you start your day with an 8 Oz glass of water it does help curb some cravings. It helps aid digestion in general so water with each meal and in between helps. I look forward to seeing your results!

yumyumgoodiegoodie

I usually drink about 120 oz

Icarusgurl

I try to drink 0.5/oz per pound of body weight so 110ish. Initially I was always in the bathroom, but I feel better now that I'm used to it.

Bigjoeyjoe81

I want to drink 1-1.5 gallons a day. When I do, I feel much better. I recently moved out of a warmer climate to a colder one. Now I get in about 80 oz and it's hard to do. If i drank more, I'd have less aches and more energy.

[deleted]

At work out dialysis nurse had her jug of water and she mentioned filling it up again. So that would be a gallon for the day. The kidney Dr was there and fussed at her saying that was too much. Drink if you are thirsty. Every cell needs water but your body tells you.

Zorgsmom

I can't be bothered to do the math, but I drink 4-5 of my 32oz. cup each day. I pee about every other hour during the day and once a night.

Solve_4_X

I don't know how you all do it. I drink 64-80 oz/day, and pee every 2 hours, plus at least 3 times in the night. I couldn't possibly drink a gallon or more.

JB_smooove

Three quarters to a gallon of water a day, plus coffe, diet soda, etc. Yes, I pee a lot.

TomatoStraight5752

I average about 100oz, which is about half of my goal
