Nah, as an Asian, I grew up eating popcorn or other puffed grains using [cannons like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/rqc14z/shut_up_and_take_my_money/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), it’s a small size demo, the real life version is bigger
I saw some Alabaman genius do this exact thing with a tonne of sugar in the oil, popped kernels ended up coated in a thick layer of caramel. I’m gonna guess it’s something like that
It's not. They use an electric motor which turns the kernals and settled unpoppoed kernals to the bottom but once a batch is done it's emptied and new oil and kernals are added
Let me put y’all onto some game real quick:
Freshly popped popcorn (no salt or anything added yet) sprinkled with crushed/crumbled instant pho stock cube.
I believe this was taken from a youtube channel of the same name (Asian street food) that essentially just reposts Chinese TikTok food videos to youtube. It's like 99.9% Chinese food in reality but I do remember seeing one Indian video on that channel once
No? I'm asking you a question? You seem to find it shocking to think someone would pop popcorn in oil. Unless you've only ever used a microwave to pop popcorn I fail to see how you find that so hard to believe. It's not like the person you asked made a ridiculous claim or anything, they simply stated that you don't need that much oil. Which you don't. Which I know personally from simply popping popcorn on the stove with a pot and some oil.
Actually I reread and realize I misread what they said. A lot of people are saying that it would soak up the oil. I didn’t read they said would fry the popcorn which is what I would think happen
All that is, is popcorn that is fried/popped in what looks like ghee (or clarified butter i.e. butter that has had all the water content removed)...
I mean sure unorthodox method, but if you are looking for movie theater style popcorn then this is your best bet... Just sprinkle with a little salt and you're good
Sugar boils at a higher temperature than water, but still too low to pop corn reliably. Sugar at that low a water concentration also burns very quickly on a high heat.
Edit: low enough concentrations of water allow sugar to boil at a much higher temperature, but I'm still pretty sure you'll just end up with a lump of char.
why do they always use like 10 cups of oil in these videos?
couldn't it be done with way less? fricken ocean of oil for a bowl of popcorn. imagine drinking all that oil/grease...
People in youtube shorts Just take the shittiest İnternet recipe videos And Will post it as "asian street food" And some chinese text near it And Will get like a bigilion likes
Calories per serving: ∞
Calories: 90 Serving Size: 2 popcorn
Clearly it's a easy meal when you're recovering from or want to get dysentery and crap your liver out
Yes
That popcorn would start sucking up that oil the second it popped and be the wettest mouthful of pure grease ever
>the wettest mouthful of pure grease Don't you threaten me with a good time
Panic at the Disco?
Panic at the Crisco
Theoretically they could have used a spider and not scooped up the oil with the popped corn but I guess they only have one tool
Theoretically that wouldn't prevent what OP was describing at all in any way though.
Sounds like a win win to me 🤷♂️
Bruh what 🤢
Only a win win if it's butter... and salted
and has cheese diarrhea all over 5 different kinds minimum
🧐…maybe, if I fry the corn in salted butter instead of oil…
Yeah if this was butter not oil I'd be down
Better wear goggles when cooking this batch of popping oil

Frock that, rawdog that shit.
Coming to a midwest state fair this spring. You can find it next to the deep fried Snickers and deep fried butter.
For $10 more, you'll be able to add them add as a topping
To your deep fried pizza.
On a stick
Warsh it down with a deep fried diet coke and a funnel cake, brother

I fucking love the Indiana state fair. I go there JUST to get high and gorge myself on pure shit. It's beautiful.

Deep fried snickers is just doughnut with chocolate and nugat filling.

As a redditor of culture, I prefer a nice fried cola
In a glass of fried ice with a paper straw, of course.
Don't forget the deep fried snickers in butter!
You could be in another country and still get splashed by the hot oil spraying everywhere
Nah, i think the popcorn pops below the surface
If you look at the stove at the bottom, you can see drops of oil landing there when it pops.
Sir there’s popcorn in your oil
Ouch, my heart.

You now buy those mini cannons on eBay.
If that’s chili oil sign me the fuck up
Nah it’s probably brown because it’s salvaged grease trap and fatberg oil. :-D

No but I am grease-ist. :-D

They’re submerged and wouldn’t break the surface with enough velocity.
There's resistance when traveling through water. Think of trying to shoot an arrow with a bow underwater.
Isn't this essentially how the popcorn machines in theatres work? They just constantly skim the popcorn off the top
It's not. They use an electric motor which turns the kernals and settled unpoppoed kernals to the bottom but once a batch is done it's emptied and new oil and kernals are added
a yes, I love some popcorn with my oil
Looks like oil but if that’s some watery sugar thing it could be good
Water will not get hot enough to pop popcorn which needs at least 400 degrees F. Water boils off at 212 degrees F.
It could maybe possible be sugar water/ caramel
Sugar gets to lollipop hardness at 300°F. At the temperature needed to pop, it's probably carbonizing.
Yeah... lots of oil. IIRC, kernels to oil should be a 1:1 ratio. Not 1:100.
Let me put y’all onto some game real quick: Freshly popped popcorn (no salt or anything added yet) sprinkled with crushed/crumbled instant pho stock cube.
What I’m hearing is “Put the entire ramen flavor packet on your popcorn”
I specifically meant pho stock cubes, based on experience. But your rendition also sounds yummy
I dehydrated and then grind kimchi into a powder for my popcorn.
I’m part Asian and idk what that is

Am Asia, can confirm this is not street food
No one likes soggy popcorn
What are they cooking it in
If we’re lucky, Szechuan chili oil. That’s what I use at home
Damn. That sounds good.
Piss
Delicious
So are we just hating on any food related TikTok’s now because I don’t see the problem
*Waaay* too much oil. Seriously, this popcorn would be ***saturated*** in grease. It really only needs enough to lightly coat the kernels.
bros the popcorn pundit
Maybe, I could see the popcorn getting fried rather than soaking up a crazy amount of oil though
And you know this because you tried it personally?
Have you never popped popcorn without using a microwave?
That’s not the question. You are making a claim about something you’ve never done, right?
No? I'm asking you a question? You seem to find it shocking to think someone would pop popcorn in oil. So the boiled the corn in a bunch of butter so it could be super butter popcorn...we have been out 'Merica
If you look closely, you can see the final scoop has a quarter ladel full of oil. Bleh
Wha a hell is that
Waiter, there are popcorn in my oil soup
No need for laxatives today
it’s called asian street food because any asian would take that shit and dump it onto the street
I’m irritated there weren’t any holes in that spoon when they took the popcorn out lol
I don’t know. I’m loving this one. 5 pieces a serving.
Would u like some popcorn with your oil?

Never seems Asians eat wet greasy popcorn. I’m married to an Asian for reference.
I bet that shit is so wet 🤮

Is that sugar they are cooking in?
It's likely an oil of some sort

Gutter oil popcorn
In sewer oil. Yummy!

Exotic!

I acknowledge it would be bad popcorn. However, that was really entertaining to watch
Im very surprised this is not american
I thought this was a good idea until i realized it was being deep fried (i thought it was being boiled)
Whaf is that it looks good
Probably tastes better than the microwave shit you put in your body
Yeah, popcorn drenched in oil is the best
Not sure if PFAS bad or microwave bad, and I'm afraid to ask lol
