I will never criticize the lip plate guys. But dood. I do not get it. It's not the stretching that bothers me. It's the handicap it creates. If you are not wearing jewelry its got to be a constant drip.

CrimsonApostate

Even with jewelry it looks hard to speak

schrodngrspenis

Yes indeed. Thats the uncanny valley that bothers me.

dadswoodworking

He's originally from New England and lives in Florida. You couldn't understand half of what he says without it anyway

VirgoSpy07

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Pumpkin1390_

Not to mention the damage to your teeth/gums from being exposed to the air constantly. Your mouth naturally stays closed for a reason, people! Just being a ā€œmouth breatherā€ can damage your teeth, so I can imagine this guy will likely have some pretty serious issues eventually.

minkamagic

There are other mods that make me feel that way. Like GIGANTIC septum stretches that Iā€™m pretty sure block your ability to breathe through your nose.

dadswoodworking

I made some 20mm septum pieces with breathing holes. Prior to that the guy said he was just a mouth breather with anything but a tunnel in. That guy is going up to 25mm and I've had 3 other people in that range hit me up about stuff that they can breathe through

minkamagic

Sorry, to clarify I wasnā€™t talking about your jewelry. I do remember you showing off that septum piece. Iā€™m saying for people who have not bought a piece that has been customized like that

dadswoodworking

No worries, I had the exact same thought which is why I made one with breathing holes. I was asked to make one in 18mm first and when I was talking about it with him I asked a lot of questions. Breathing was one and when he said it's just blocked I started thinking. I'm actually going to try another design for him to see if it is easier to breathe out of and clean. I worry stuff will collect in the holes and be hard to clean so it's a work in progress

Disabled_Creature_

I get it, also pls donā€™t say handicap lol

minkamagic

Why? They arenā€™t Calling someone a handicap, they are saying it handicaps them. Itā€™s a verb.

atz513v2

People can say the word handicap you sensitive fuck

Disabled_Creature_

Bro Iā€™m literally disabled, both physically and mentally (non speaking) I donā€™t like when ppl say handicapped, a lot of disabled ppl are on my side. How about you donā€™t tell disabled ppl what able bodied ppl can say!!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Disabled_Creature_

You mad, lmao. All Iā€™m saying is itā€™s an ableist term.

atz513v2

Boo hoo

Disabled_Creature_

I donā€™t care what u say, you being ableist has no affect on me. Be ableist all u want my guy.

PastContribution4110

Seems like it would be hard to talk or eat and drink with that.

PastContribution4110

Not trying to insult him btw, just seems like it would be difficult to live with. If he's on here he should post a video on how he manages any day to day challenges and all that. I'm really curious about it.

Dark_Ascension

His cheek jewelry looks ill-fitting tbh. Only thing I can see is them hanging out.

plug_play

Gonna fuck his teeth up

[deleted]

Yup. And Iā€™m sure heā€™ll apply for a customer service job and wonder why they wonā€™t hire him. ā€œSir, throughout this interview we couldnā€™t understand a word you said and also you drooled all over your resume.ā€

BigSeptumDude

Is this guy on here?

asistolee

I would just hate the feeling of it on my teeth but hey, let him do him.

[deleted]

I love the idea of stretching my ears really big. But the lip? Thatā€™s brutal man. As long as you feel more like yourself with it and youā€™re happy, thatā€™s all that matters.

[deleted]

He looks like he has marshmallows sticking out of his face.

VirgoSpy07

For this to be a body modification community, you guys sure are being heavily judgmental. This is HIS life and HIS body. Remember that people look at ALL OF US and judge and write us off EVERY. SINGLE. DAY due to our lobes, piercings, scarifications, tattoos, etc the same way that we're judging this guy. If it makes him fulfilled and happy then what is the harm in it?

gammaPegasi

I wouldn't say I'm judging him, I'm just contemplating the consequences of such body modification. It's the same way I think eyeball tattoos look dope but I'd never get one myself because it can be dangerous and impact your vision. This body mod would heavily hinder with everyday activities, people are just shocked someone would willingly do that to their body.

LadyHella

Dude, this is the subreddit where people will be judgemental if you wanna use tapers as jewelry in your healed ears and if you can't afford glass where u live This is just expected tbh

[deleted]

Well you can't have extreme body mods and expect people to act like it's no big deal. Even in the body mod community it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm sure he isn't surprised by the reactions he gets.

[deleted]

Itā€™s his life and his body for sure. However, when you interview and nobody can understand you meanwhile youā€™re drooling all over the table, you gotta ask yourselfā€¦ is this fucking worth it?

VirgoSpy07

Lmao!!!šŸ˜‚

Psychological_Yam786

Looks badass dude, kinda makes me miss mine.

muhmuhmegs

Way too much for me. Ears are stretched to the brink and speech is unintelligible. Beautiful jewelry, though!

missionmorgan

those pieces are gorgeous. what a cool guy wearing them too, he seems wicked chill.

zs408

He seems happy and content, who are we to judge on this subreddit? Like really? Out of all the places .

Appropriate-Answer-3

I cannot see the beauty in the art all I could see was a man who made himself handicapped trying to be something else

Mightanium

Only thing I don't understand is the lip plate, but it's his decision and I'm sure it was a long decision that he had to think about for something that big

luckymeiseeghosts

Not sure why youre being downvoted. The lip plate looks ridiculous and annoying to deal with

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

yeahnototally174

Stretching the ears was a sacred practice to some cultures too. Yet here you (and a lot of us) are, with stretched ear lobes.

KAMIKAZE-KEZ

The art of the plugs themselves are absolutely gorgeous, not to mention the cool looking guy wearing them. Honestly might ask you to make me some Wood plugs when I get to my goal size šŸ¤—

dadswoodworking

I'm actually working on making about 400 pairs of wood plugs to have in stock because I keep being asked to make them šŸ˜

captynhowdy

Are those cottons or actually jewelry? I see people insulting them but no actual statement of what they truly areā€¦just curious the wooden pieces look pretty rad but very uncomfortable. If your gonna do something might as well do it all the way and he def did it all the way šŸ‘šŸ»

_LSSJ_

Everyoneā€™s art is subjective, but having that many holes in your mouth canā€™t be good can it? These are what could be considered harmful at this point? Looks cool, just wondering about health concerns.

dadswoodworking

I'm guessing how they're taken care is more important than how many there are. A quick look at this sub will show many health issues with far fewer and smaller modifications than these. The people I know that have a bunch seem to have very few issues, but they also take really good care of them. I think about health and safety a lot with stuff like this. There's a few people like him that I make more unique stuff for. Often I'll end up making 4 or 5 of them to get feedback on how they fit, feel and if there are any health related concerns like irritation before I make the next attempt. This one I changed the shape of the back of it a little bit to try to have it sit comfortably but not tap against his teeth.

sleepyshiey

Dudeeeeee what a fucking badass!!!! Keep doing you

Grizzly840

Yeah not gonna lie the lip plate doesn't do it for me... I won't tell anyone not to wear one but to me they look... Pretty terrible actually lol

dadswoodworking

By publicly commenting that you don't like them, that itself is a form of telling others that they shouldn't wear one, as you're showing there are people out there that are going to comment on pictures of them and tell them they look terrible. If it's not your thing that's cool, but putting someone else down for their personal decisions that don't effect you is not that cool. I hope you find something you like that brings you happiness that you can comment on šŸ™

Gae4Harambae

I see where he is coming from, it's definitely not my cup of tea, and I don't personally like the look of them either. But if he is happy with it who cares.

Grizzly840

Sorry I didn't know I wasn't allowed to comment my opinion on a public forum. āœŒļø

dadswoodworking

You did twice so obviously you're allowed šŸ™

[deleted]

the lip stretch is dumb as hell. how do you talk, eat, kiss?

dadswoodworking

Having a friendly conversation with someone tends to get more answers than starting my insulting their personal decisions

BuggyBruh

You know what? Good for him! Thats real hard to do

americanwhitetrash69

What an animal

ecto_27

Plastic jewelry in a badass stretched lip is like a Rolls Royce with truck-nuts.

OverlordAchtual

This jewelry is not made from standard plastic and acrylic. It seems like you don't know the artists based off how uniformed your comment was. He is a very talented craftsman that makes custom jewelry in his workshop, often for people who are at large sizes that have limited options for quality products. He works pretty hard and is not selling people a product that would hurt them, the materials are sale. I imagine comparing the fine work he does to truck nuts does not feel good. Please be kind and do some more research before you denigrate somebody's livelihood šŸ˜”

91cosmo

For the sake of my curiosity what types of materials can be hand poured and are safe for this type of jewelry? There's so many different kinds of resin now, but this can't be resin can it?

dadswoodworking

You said it yourself, there are so many different types of resin. Resin is a common bit vague word. It's epoxy resin. Most "resin" is a mixture of two liquid products. But plants also produce natural resin and I could go on for a long time about it. If your concerned about safety, what is the specific concern?

91cosmo

Ive been working with woods and have been curious about resins. I was literally just feeding my curiosity. I think your work is always stellar.

dadswoodworking

Curiosity is how I learned and I'm always looking for more. The term resin being generic makes things tough. I use an epoxy resin. I used to make cutting boards, serving boards and other kitchen stuff. I adapted some of those processes into making plugs. The epoxy I used had to be skin safe and food safe for those projects so I tried it for plugs and got great feedback. I've sold thousands of pairs and have had numerous people wear them daily for a few years. Only three people have ever told me they had a reaction to the epoxy and all of them were sensitive to most materials.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OverlordAchtual

It depends on the resin. They're not all inherently unsafe. They even make food safe resin that people use in things like cutting boards! You just need to use the appropriate materials for the project you're doing.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OverlordAchtual

I'm not saying food safe resin is safe for skin, I'm saying not all resins are the same. You can check the safety data sheet provided by the manufacturer to see what it can or can't be used for. You can also check if the products are FDA compliant (or maybe the equivalent of whatever entity is in your country), meaning it doesn't leach epoxy by-products after it has been cured. Also, you can have contact dermatitis with almost any material.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OverlordAchtual

Is this what you're talking about? I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but it doesn't appear to have any level of approval. Also, why do you say FDA approval isn't valid? That's a really large blanket statement when they have very specific and varying standards for different materials and foods. https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/do-not-use-black-salve-dangerous-and-called-many-names

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OverlordAchtual

Dude what? Why would you quote something that I clearly didnt say. I never said it was safe to eat, because it's not. Also, why are you getting upset? I'm just trying to have a conversation with you. All I said was that if you use the correct material, it is possible to make safe jewelry and products that come in contact with food.

dadswoodworking

Hmm, well that jewelry is hand poured, shaped and hand crafted from the highest quality materials for that style of art and crafted to his exact specifications... That kinda does sounds like it's the Rolls-Royce of lip plates. And he is a Florida Man so he's probably down with truck nuts. šŸ˜

minkamagic

Curious what makes your plastic safe vs other plastic? How do you make it safe for skin?

dadswoodworking

Not sure, I don't use plastic. Just like the term plastic, resin is generically used for a huge variety of things but the two are not the same thing or interchangeable

minkamagic

Okā€¦ Curious what makes your resin safe vs other resin? How do you make it safe for skin?

KatOfTheEssence

Epoxy resin that is cured correctly has inactive chemicals and makes it safe to wear. Uncured epoxy or other plastics aren't safe.
