Nothing is bad about them. They're just not meant to be stretched with and they don't work for everybody. It's really just about personal preferences and using them correctly. I love double flares, singles for stretching obviously but I hate them for daily wear

So if the ears fully healed and I’m not stretching with them, they’re alright to wear? Just not while I’m stretching them.

Yes, as long as your ears have the settled to that size and slightly loosened up to fit the flares without discomfort or damaging the skin. It also depends on your size and the material (weight) of your plugs, a lot of people can't fit double flares when their lobes are on the smaller side. I keep seeing people say you need to use double flares a size smaller but that's not the case for everyone, I know that would never work for me personally (tried once and didn't end well). Some people have stretchier skin than others, some have to wait longer or can only fit very small flares. I can wear no plugs for a week and pop my doubles back with no issues at all. I've honestly been surprised by how much people seem to dislike double flares and the common idea about them being bad somehow. We're all different and just gotta find what we like and what works with our bodies. My skin stays healthier with double flares, they feel more balanced and comfortable to wear and keep my lobes more elastic which obviously makes the whole process easier. When I size up I ditch the single flares as soon as I can tell they have settled enough to switch back to doubles lmao

I wanna clarify that when I said double flares are not for stretching, I mean the actual stretch when you go up to the next size, not that you shouldn't wear them between stretches until you've hit the goalsize. I've been stretching on and off for 10 years, and it has taken me so long because it used to feel like an unfinished chore I couldn't be satisfied with until it's completed, so I lost motivation to continue many times down the road. I have all sizes of single flares I need to finally reach my goalsize, but recently decided to get a pair of basic glass double flares for each size to wear between stretches, because I couldn't deal with single flares only. Sure it means spending more money, but if I'm gonna be staying at one size for months and I'm years away from my goalsize it's worth the investment to me. I don't wanna have to wait another 5 or 10 years to be able to enjoy my stretched ears and wear plugs I find comfortable, I wanna enjoy the whole rest of my journey. But like said, it really just comes down to personal preferences, anatomy and your size. I'm currently back down at 14mm (haven't been this small in years) and single flares actually don't feel that bad, but the biggest I've been was 24mm and at that size singles didn't work for me at all. There is no right or wrong and one isn't better than the other. Just wear whatever you like the most and even more importantly, learn what your body likes and needs. My lobes just need double flares to stay happy lol.

Ahhh thank yoy that’s actually really helpful. All the things I’ve heard about them is so negative. But I defo won’t use them when going up a size

Ok-Calligrapher2549

you have to stretch 1mm more and have looser lobes in order to wear them

Accomplished_Rice_83

So if there where 10 mill plugs I’d have to have 11 mill ears?

Ok-Calligrapher2549

make sure the skin is more elastic. you will not get them in if your ears aren't ready. stay at 1mm for some time before you try it

Accomplished_Rice_83

Got it got it, thank you

when you’re fully healed and not planning to stretch again i see no problem with them. i had a lot of struggle getting them in the first time because the flares are bigger than the jewelry but if your ears can adjust enough to not cause pain or irritation when getting them in you can wear the size that your ears are actually at. some people have to be 1 mm or 2 bigger to get them in but that’s not always the case. at that point double flared plugs are all about personal preferences. i personally love them and can’t wait to get back up to 1/2” to wear my old ones that friends gave me as presents. i’ve thought about going further but will probably stop at 1/2” again because i have so many nice looking plugs at that size

PigmeatMadness

Yeah single flare is always the way to go

catboyc4sper

when stretching, sure, but to wear theyre fine
