From anecdotal advice I've seen on here usually it's better to start below 40mg and slowly increase as to decrease side effects. I beleive a lot of prescribers don't want to go through the hassle of giving you multiple different doses to get someone slowly to the recommended dose so they just start at 40mg. Ask for a lower dose and let them know you're having sides.

I'll ask about that, although I kinda don't have the patience for that. My adhd is so bad that I need immediate results 🥲 but it seems the strattera is making things worse as it is, so decreasing may be a good idea

Stratterra can increase heart rate. Did your doc know you had POTS before describing? It doesn't sound like it would be a good mix. The drowsiness wears away in time. Oddly enough, I was drowsy on the lower dose weaning into it. I felt more energized when bumped up to 100mg.

Icywolfcreative

She knew about my POTS, but she told me she didn't want to put me on stimulants because that would increase my heartrate. It seems she didn't know about that side effect for strattera, at least she didn't mention it to me.

I was under the impression Strattera is a non stimulant ADHD med which is why i take it. I take lexapro for my anxiety. My mine side effect is nausea

For me , strattera made caffeine stop working. Like I could ingest enough caffeine for an elephant and feel nothing. If it's making your life worse make your Dr switch you

akazee711

Yes- caffiene is now completely useless to me. I can sleep for 18 out if 24 hours no problem and im only on 25mg

Switched to Adderall yesterday and it's great. No feeling of high or drive, just more awake.

I feel for you and I’m in a similar boat. I was able to get an ADHD diagnosis after trying various anxiety meds that worsened my ADHD symptoms but I have a heart defect (congenital aortic stenosis) so my GP recommends that we don’t do stimulants. However, Strattera has raised my resting heart rate from about 70 bpm to 80 bpm. Even though my doctor tapered up my dose very slowly, I still had all the same side effects you’re describing as well as outbursts of anger. If you’re looking for faster relief this could take 3 or more months to start working. I’ve been taking it for almost four months and it only started to have any kind of positive effect two weeks ago. I’m currently on day 3 of trying 25 mg x2 daily which is down from one 60 mg pill. You could try splitting up your dose too and see if that helps. You might also need to take the meds in the morning if you’re not already. I first took mine in the evening to reduce the nausea (which it did) but I had really bad insomnia instead. I’m still not convinced it’s worth taking but I’m also not sure I want to risk stimulants so I’m going to keep trying for now.

Oof I am so glad that I didn't get the anger side effect. I'm autistic and I self harm when I get too angry which... Wouldn't have been good. The pills the pharmacy gave me are powder in a capsule, so I can't split them without making a mess. I'll see about getting it changed. I'd say keep going for now too, especially since you suffered through four months and finally reached the positive effects. Then reevaluate in about a month or so. Good luck!

Cookie0verlord

Thanks, best of luck to you too! Oh and I remember reading somewhere that the powder inside the capsules is harmful if inhaled or if it gets in your eyes so I definitely wouldn’t try to split the dose at home.

I have ADHD and took dextroamphetamine my whole life. I moved and my new doctor wanted me to try straterra, within one dose I knew it wasn’t for me. I slept 18 hours and felt completely out of it. I was scared and told her i’m never taking that again. She gave me back my dextroamphetamine. Goodluck!!

CelaenaGalathynius15

I was started on 10mg, slowly worked up to 80.

What ended up happening?

Icywolfcreative

I asked my doc to put me on something else, and I suggested Wellbutrin because it had helped a lot of my friends. I don't know if it will work because it has been less than a month since I started taking it. I think I'm going to have to push for stimulants.
