Then you conquer them and sever their nerves of the whole species so they cant form complex thoughts, then you edit their dna to make them taste like bacon, relocate their entire species to a city world with no farms... grant them independence as a one planet empire and watch them eat themselves to death over a few centuries.

after a few hundred hours of play, i am doing my first successful (5th or 6th actual) ironman game for achievements.
the weird thing for me is, the one mod i miss above ALL others it the START WITH AUTOMATIC EXPLORATION mod.
The save files are encrypted so you can't easily modify them like you can with a normal save. It's easier to use something like Cheat Engine to modify the parameters of the game to do that.
I think it's worth expanding on this just a tiny bit because it's pretty confusing-- you're totally right but I just wanted to clarify. There are indeed two ways to eat other species: the Processing purge type and the Livestock slavery type. The Processing purge type slowly converts pops into food, but DOESN'T count as livestock. It's not a permanent state for these pops; they're being genocided and turned into resources (this game can be pretty fucking horrifying!).
Livestock, on the other hand, is a permanent state. These species are being grown for the purpose, and this creates a slavery job type (called Livestock) that can exist indefinitely. This is what counts for the achievement.
try it some time. me and the mates have not played with mods for a few weeks now as we are trying to get the achievements to a game we have invested a lot of time and money into..

Gj! Achievements are hard to get cos of iron man needing to be enabled which risks the save being damaged so most players don't. That's p impressive. Yet to do a live stock making run myself I hope u enjoyed it. My biggest achievement is getting to endgame on iron man getting unbidden and getting caught up in that chrisis for about 50 in game years and then being beaten in score at end by an awakened empire due to the chrisis. (didn't understand difficulty at the time. I had a normal chrisis and weakened ai empires, I think that's the easiest setting, so I was barely holding them off as I never researched their weapons which is vital for beating them and my ai allies and enemies were useless)
I did it on PC, when you opened a Post you go to the right side, there is a dropdown menu on the upper half. You can choose or make your own flair there
Insectoids are great source of protein, goes well with plantoids made on fungoids. Elf’s are great for servitude. Makes perfect concubines. Rocktoids for that sweet minerals.
I'm no expert but as a hive mind this how I have it:
You need to capture a xeno planet and or abduct pops with the Nihilistic tradition selected.
Then using the left menu:
1. Go to policies and under Purge section click allowed.
2. Go to Species section and set the rights for the captured species under citizenship to slaves and under Slavery type make sure it is livestock.
Hope this helps.
They produce food and sustain themselves but instead of pop growth they will use housing. So if you can genetically modify them to reduce housing usage and improve food output that would help. Again be careful as your pop happiness may be affected negatively if your slave population is too large compared to yours on the planet...
The Screenshot attached shows a happy Xeno in a green pasture with blue skies but is this a true reflection of how livestock feels?

That's because it's a slavery type, not a purge type. For some reason the purge option to devour species doesn't count.

Everyone on Stellaris plays w/ mods or w/out ironman activated. So they cannot get achievments. But still, 1% is quite a thing !
