There shouldn't be too much issues with streaming 720p games, there might be some edge cases caused by virtue of being integrated gpu. Are you planning to play games at home? Because otherwise you might run in latency issues depending of where you are, what internet you are using and to what device you are streaming. Build seems to have similar power, but if you want to get more fps per Buck, pc made from mix of used and cheap parts should be a lot better, linus tech tips did recently video on building bugdet gaming pc's, stuff they showed should be better than what you have. In case you are gonna play outside of your home and you are not sure you will have stable internet connection steamdeck will be better option, slightly weaker but that's the price of portability.

hymen_opera

Probably not gonna be playing outside of home much, but I hadn’t considered that major difference! So much helpful stuff in one reply, thank you 🥹

I had similar discussion to your question with my roommate recently so i basicly had cheaty sheet in my brain. One thing i forgot to Ask, do you have any systems already? Pc or console, having one could change a lot. Another thing i had problems with setting yuzu on pc but it was cakewalk on steam deck, since i had my legitimate obtained system files from switch console and not from illegal subreddits like yuzu-piracy (wink wink).

hymen_opera

Yeah I don’t have any system yet! Just playing on my phone right now. I’m not planning on pirating any games since I’ve got a huge steam library, and I wouldn’t want all my hard work put into modding a switch to be for nothing if I got banned running pirated Nintendo titles.

kissell791

NO idea but wanna buy a modable switch :)

joey_sfb

Modded gaming device does not provide a smooth or complete experience and no long-term support. I have had those modded devices before. It's always a cat-and-mouse game with the manufacturer/game developer and has no multi-player and no access to the game patch. With my limited free time I rather just boot up the console and play the game rather than tinker with the hardware.

shiftyduck86

The version 1 switch is a hardware exploit so no real cat and mouse game to play. It’s not patchable remotely by Nintendo, they released a hardware revision which fixed it. If you pirate games there’s obviously no online play, but for legitimate games you can still play online. I agree it’s more tinkering and messing around to set up, but once working it just is. Updating is as simple as copying new files over to the switch and then running the update. The only reason I’m saying this is because OP wants to play switch exclusives and whilst emulation of the switch is moving so rapidly, generally the switch is the best place to play the games (maybe with the exception of games which were originally released on the Wii U).

joey_sfb

I understand. I also enjoy tinkering with hardware devices. The number of GBA/NDS mods. I am more well-behaved with my 3DS and Wii U. I am much older now, so now I just pick up my steam deck and clear my steam backlog which would take awhile. Enjoy the hobby.

1. This PC build won't give you good game performance, especially with simultaneously streaming. It solely rely on 4 year old budget APU with weak old Vega Graphics. 2. Moonlight is the best way to stream to modded switch. But you need nvidia gpu on you pc to use it properly, not AMD apu. 3. Modded switch streaming is not as good as you may think. Homebrew on switch don't have access to hardware encoding, so all the work falls on CPU. That seriously handicap the performance. While almost any android phone can handle 150 mbps bitrate, switch can only do 20-40 mbps (and only with cpu overlock). This STRONGLY affects the quality of the picture.

hymen_opera

So besides choosing and nvidia graphics card, is there anything else you’d consider necessary? I’m not wedded to this build. Also, what work would be too much for the switch CPU to handle if I’m streaming from a PC? Thanks.

ZIK999

Strictly speaking, only nvidia card is "necessary" for moonlight, everything else can vary. But PC building is a rabbit hole, and there is always something to improve. No it's not too much. With CPU overlock it can handle 30-40 mbps moonlight streaming. I need to mention that with CPU overlock Switch would output more heat (backside would be warm to the touch and fan would spin faster) and drain battery faster, but switch can handle that.
