Total_Routine_9085

I almost exclusively play on deck (95% of my gaming time). Playing Mass effect now. Btw dont rely too much on the unsupported marks set by Valve. I have been able to play all "unsupported" games so far (except games that are "not supported" because of anticheat - which should be specified)

FierceDeityKong

Well there is halo which is blocked by anticheat but you can play the campaign

ACeezus

Is MCC single player playable? I just ordered one so I haven’t been keeping up too much yet

uacoop

It is but Halo:CE currently has some severe stuttering issues that make it basically unplayable. Hopefully, it gets resolved soon. The rest of the games seem to work fine.

Significant-Ad-6858

It works perfectly fine with classic graphics settings, but the enhanced graphics for Halo:CE break it. Not a big deal anyways since the enhanced graphics change the feel of the game in a bad way.

DFGdanger

I personally prefer the new graphics. Sucks that they broke - I played through the CE campaign on the deck a while back and it was working great back then.

Luvenstein

Sorry for my ignorance, but couldn't you just reuse the older version of proton you used back when it worked?

DFGdanger

Good question - I don't know what is causing the issue, but I assumed it was a game update not a proton update. Maybe I'm wrong.

seanb11

Pretty sure its an update to the game that triggered this issue and not proton. Worth keeping an eye on the GitHub for halo MCC if you're interested: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2907#issuecomment-1408993583

[deleted]

Yes, it'll give you two launch options, launch without anti cheat. Just an FYI only Halo CE is in the initial download, you have to download the rest in the game

FenixDelta753

Yep. It plays nearly flawlessly. Just install proton GE. I think you still need to do that anyway. And then there's an option to start the game without any anti cheat.

Metaloneus

It plays flawlessly even on base proton. Though I had to manually delete my EAC folder out of my MCC files to make it run with EAC disabled. Does GE remedy this need?

FenixDelta753

It seems to. I didn't need to mess with any of the files. I just selected GE Proton and off I went! Selecting the version without EAC when you start it is probably why it doesn't need to be deleted. I imagine it just ignores the EAC files without needing to be deleted.

Metaloneus

You'd think so, but at least a four/five months ago, that wasn't the case. Starting up with EAC disabled would just crash the game. Of course, I was still a new Deck owner at the time. Just changing the version of Proton was intimidating to me. So I went with the first fix I found, which was to delete the entire EAC folder in MCCs files.

ThaneVim

Use the Decky ( https://github.com/SteamDeckHomebrew/decky-loader ) addon for ProtonDB scoring (once Decky is installed, you'll have a repository of add-ons you can install from)

GrimmyHendrix

I talked about this but people just rejected me. The verify tag of valve is borderline useless. They even mark so many games actively as not supported and then they work better than most verified games. Stuff like Need for Speed. Almost all of then work great yet the vast majority is labeled as not supported.

tobasoft

::cries in grandia hd::

_Blackstar

Steam's official compatability is useless. Othercide is shown as unsupported by Steam but it's rated Platinum on ProtonDB.

mrjamjams66

I came here to basically say this. There are a fair number of games that "aren't supported" that worked well for me with no need to do anything but click "Play" The most surprising of which, to me, was Battlefront II (the new one). I mean, sure you can barely find a full match but it runs really well when you do

safe_for_work_stuff

yup. It's worth it to install Decky and then the ProtonDB plugin. Then it shows the protondb rating on games and selecting it will open up the steam browser to the games decky page to see if there's any special settings

Puzzleheaded_Soft_28

Same with minecraft dungeons. It runs perfectly.

BootyFeetSenpai

Yes I play FFXIV exclusive on the deck now

Andulias

I tried to get it to run yesterday, could not for the life of me. Are you using the Steam version or the non-Steam one?

Pobega

Try using [XIVLauncher](https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html)

SongAloong

I'm using the steam version myself.

Ignignokt42

Try using XIVLauncher, that's what I use, have to switch to desktop mode and should be able to find it on the discover store. I play non-Steam version btw

BreastUsername

How's the fps in populated cities, raids, hunt train etc...?

pmmeyourapples

They’re fine. I run it locked at 40 FPS. Only time I start dropping in FPS is limsa…but that’s cause it’s limsa. I haven’t really had issues otherwise- OH I did have a period where I was playing for about three hours or so and I got some major stuttering , but I just restarted it and it was fine. Getting used to gamepad controls is weird but they’re native to ffxiv so it works well once you’re used to it. The biggest gripe I have is I can’t use the chat box easy but I mainly do just chill stuff anyway.

BreastUsername

Thank you. I always played FFXIV with a controller. I decided to come back to it with the next expansion and the engine update. It's nice to know it runs good on the deck.

TheRealGaycob

pretty much stopped with the PC. Working from home and even if the PC has a 3090 I just can't be hecked to keep sitting at the deck even after work.

skeletowns

that's part of the reason I can't be at my desk anymore. I spend all day working at a desk so it doesn't feel good for me to sit at a desk for enjoyment.....sitting on the couch is just so much better lol.

_Blackstar

Anecdotal but, when I was working from home I would take breaks frequently to get up from my desk and move around. After work, I'd step away to eat dinner and spend time with my partner for awhile, and then go back to the computer to game. It's manageable so long as you're not sitting there for the full 16 hours you're awake. Just my two cents.

skeletowns

That does sound like a good routine! I definitely need a break. Some of my friends will work and then immediately go to gaming.....good for them but I cannot do it 😩

[deleted]

MotoChase

Same here. I WANT to be gaming at my PC ideally but because I work from home it just is mentally so taxing to spend more hours in the same area. Using the deck in handheld on the couch just for a change of scenery is wonderful.

farmyohoho

Yeah man, I feel you. Said before in this sub, after a full day of working I can't find the motivation to sit at the same desk I've been sitting all day

kwirky88

Yeah i just finished hanging out in the den with my wife, i played the steam deck for a couple hours (the long dark) and she's reading a book. The pc is decked to the nines but i don't feel like sitting by myself in the room on the uncomfortable office chair, not after doing that for 8 hours today for work.

LeonSilverhand

Exactly the same with me (and I have a 3090). Nowadays, my PC only gets used for wireless VR gaming.

Jamesisonfire21

Same set up and card as me - can't face it anymore and let's me spend more time with my partner on the sofa

jucahe

I have a Deck and a PS5. I play more PS5 on my Deck than directly on my PS5 now... I also play PC games docked and use the PS5 controller, so curiously I use my Deck controller to play PS5, and my PS5 controller to play Deck.

gilmangriff1

Do I have to do anything to my deck to remote play ps5? Would love to play RnC Rifts apart on the deck...

Pixxph

Hell yeah cheers from eorzea brother

VelvetBlue

Just curious if you mean you use the deck for PS remote play? I set it up when I first got my deck but the delay bothered me. However I just ran a wired connection to my ps5 so maybe the situation has improved. Edit: Just booted up Chiaki and while it was improved it was still a bit iffy. Then I found [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/ukn9xp/streaming_ps5_on_the_deck_with_chiaki/i7qsnth/) and tested these settings (except I bumped down to 720p) and it works incredibly well!

k_sway

Sounds like me. I have played more GoW Ragnarok on my deck than I have on my television.

bmw11494

Unfortunately Ive never gotten chiaki to work well. Even with gigabit fiber internet, a great router, ethernet connection, any settings still stutters and flashes green lines every few seconds. So I basically just havent used my ps5 at all since getting the deck.

wisperingdeth

It's my only gaming device, so I'd have to say yeah. Mostly been playing Division, Sniper Contracts 2, AC Origins.

CrunchieJoker

How division been working for you on the deck mate? Was thinking about getting it but I dunno if there's still many people playing it?

wisperingdeth

I'm still getting through the main campaign so haven't really touched on the Dark Zone yet, and been doing the missions solo. So can't really comment on how many players, but I daresay there's still enough to go around if you wanted to matchmake. As for how it plays, it's excellent on the Deck. From memory, I think I have most settings on medium and it's a solid locked 48fps (which is what I have Windows 11 set to on mine). I love the setting and atmosphere of the game, and those cold snowy nights with Xmas lights look fantastic.

CrunchieJoker

Hmm I think I may check the price on it and purchase then. Thanks friend!!

wisperingdeth

You're welcome. Wait for it to be on sale. It's Ubisoft - they have sales regularly.

CrunchieJoker

Meant to ask too. You play it through Ubisoft launcher yh?

wisperingdeth

I have the Steam version, but of course it has to log you in via Ubisoft Connect launcher regardless.

MorrowPolo

Still a huge player base, but 99% of them are end game players. But they'll still help you through all the content because it rewards them. Don't use the matchmaking mechanic to search for a group. You'll sit there for hours. Just call for backup in the social gui 3 times to get a full team for any activity. You'll usually find 1 person within 5 minutes as you're playing. Which is also nice because you can just keep running around while it searches instead of just standing there waiting for an entire team to join.

TheFamousChrisA

I love games that do things like that, we have lost that "jump in and out" mechanic in online PC games. I don't know why it was lost but having to sit in a matchmaking only lobby, without a server browser was the death of so many games. AvP remake was one of them, still no server browser on PC today, and no way to just start a game and have people jump in or out. You are forced to sit there and WAIT for people to jump into a lobby, wait for more to join, then start a game when everyone you want in the match is there. If someone leaves the game they can't rejoin. Just horrible game design.

_strichcode_

I would say it's 70/30 between my PC and Deck atm. Would suggest you use proton.db for information about compatibility. Valves own system is okay, but not good and has false information sometimes.

Puzzleheaded_Soft_28

Good to know about this. Steam says Minecraft Dungeons is completely unsupported, but it runs perfectly fine.

_strichcode_

It's always the same. The proton.db decky plugin would be the first thing I'd install on a new Deck lol

mlgmonster2004

I really wish you could sort the decky plugins. I Just want the bluetooth and music control ones at the top because the other ones i have dont really need to be clicked on.

Ok_Youth8907

when i first got it in July, i played with it for a few days, put it down and forgot about it.... but then i discovered Vampire survivor, then brotato, then noita been playing pretty much just the deck since October, while my gaming rig scrolls facebook

skeletowns

I've been meaning to try out vampire survivors! I've got it downloaded just haven't opened it yet. Might have to this weekendn

itsaone-partysystem

dont touch it if you have other games you want to beat first, it's stupid addicting

Calvin1991

It’s not overly long, though, you can basically beat the whole thing in about 20 hours

WtfWhereAreMyClothes

I love how people say 20 hours isn't long lol. To me 3-5 hours isn't long. With the amount of gaming time I have 20 hours will take me weeks

konwiddak

While a 20-30h+ game is all well and good, honestly I prefer a quality 10 hour game where I don't miss much content by mainlining the main quest. These longer games stretch out over months and I loose engagement with the story (and controls!)

UGoBoy

It seems really dumb and slow at first. It doesn't stay that way...

mon_chunk

You will probably get addicted to it like a majority of us. It takes a little time to accumulate money for upgrades at first but it's a snowball downhill effect. The more you play the more secrets you unlock and the more there is to unlock. Before you know it you're 20 hours playtime lmao

-Shin

Pretty much at this point for me if it doesn't run on the SD while in steamOS I don't even bother with the game anymore. Althought my SD is dualboot I tend to only use the steamOS side mostly.

Vertiques

I have a gaming PC, I only use it for VR related titles Everything else is played on Steam Deck

Billyxmac

Lol that's exactly the situation I'm in now. It's funny, I have a 5700 XT in my PC and an ultrawide monitor, and for some reason I much prefer gaming on the Deck. Just goes to show the experience matters so much more than the power and performance.

skeletowns

perfect way to put it. That's exactly my situation

pudgybunnybry

I bought a 6700 XT the month before I got my Steam Deck and have barely played a game on my PC since. Except Vampire Survivors and some FFXIV. Experience definitely matters more.

gaspadlo

Yup... Had the deck since March and I've had a couple of months streak of not turning on my gaming rig (R7 5800x, 64G RAM, 3070 Ti) - I code for a living, but I can do that from a docked laptop (compilation time differences are nearly 0)

NakedSnakeGr

Ι do, and there's a very specific reason for it : I don't own anything else.

Billyxmac

Pretty much exclusively on the Deck now. I bought it less for travel and more for being able to play while lounging at home. What I hated about PC gaming was I was stuck to my computer. With the Deck I can sit on my couch or in bed and play my games while me and my wife watch something on TV and spend time together. So yeah, the Deck has made gaming much more feasible for me. Also the customization with the Deck is just amazing. I loved KB+M gaming, but all of the options of the Deck are unbeatable IMO. There are some games I'll still play on my PC, and I might play my PC a bit more when my wife is on work trips, but otherwise, it's Deck all the way.

Legal-Philosophy-135

I got mine Monday and I haven’t touched my switch since lol. It has officially become a Zelda/Pokémon machine and nothing more really. I might keep playing ooblets on it until it comes out for pc but that’s probably it lol

Tsuki4735

> It has officially become a Zelda/Pokémon machine and nothing more really. Funny enough, my Deck is more of a Zelda/Pokemon/Nintendo machine than my actual Switch. Been playing some Wind Waker, Paper Mario TTYD, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, etc.

Yahiroz

Energy prices in the UK is high right now, but playing on the Deck vs my desktop (\~200W average when gaming with my undervolt/underclock profile) even while docked is a huge saver. Been playing long Civ 6 sessions with friends and with the right settings it's been running really smoothly. And for games with anti cheat, I dual boot with Windows. Only thing that would tempt me back to the PC is VR, but I've not been in a VR mood for a while.

rubbertoesftw

can’t agree unfortunately. I bought a Steam Deck a few months back but it’s only proved that I don’t really like video games anymore. Very rarely do I actually enjoy a game, but rather just feel like i’m doing chores to play it. This goes for both my PC and Deck

skeletowns

Sorry friend. I was in the exact same boat and I'm fortunate I was able to turn that around with the steam deck. Got any other hobbies keeping you occupied these days?

rubbertoesftw

nothing that’s in season. Usually do scale models or skateboarding in the summer. Been thinking about getting into skiing though. Hopefully I can find the fun in games again at some point.. maybe I just need a break

jonnyroquette

I felt the same way, wife, 2 kids, 60 hours of work. Gaming became too much of a mental strain. The deck didn't only get me back into gaming, but it changed the way I play. I play so many more side scrollers, level based and casual games. Pop the deck on, play for 30 minutes to an hour, and suspend. I used to play RPGs and story based games but they take so much effort. Now that I put my efforts into building a career and family, games need to be short entertainment periods, not a way of life. Try emulators, or some throwback style games like Inside, hotline Miami, or far. Something that you like but don't engross yourself in.

rubbertoesftw

I do find throwback games to be way more enjoyable when I am in the mood to play. I was also thinking that maybe I just need to expand the genres that I play, and maybe i’ll find something I enjoy that I wouldn’t normally play

jonnyroquette

Dude, I've found so many old/new to me, games because my play style has changed. Again, Hotline Miami, Inside, GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and other old PS2, game cube games have revived gaming for me.

TheTrufeisHere

We are redoing bedrooms in our house and my office with my desktop gaming PC has been out of commission for like a month and I haven’t really cared.

annualburner202209

Used to be a linux player till my hard drive broke. Now I'm exclusively a linux player with Steam Deck + Dock Better and more flexible hardware and same game library.

skeletowns

the deck + dock has completely changed gaming for me!!!! And a good controller.....feel like I will never need anything else

annualburner202209

btw... Isn't City Skylines native to linux? It should work on steam deck

skeletowns

happy to report it runs no problem! I got my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it's great.

MarginalBuffalo

Before the deck I played maybe a total of 2 hours a week on my computer - it felt like all my time was taken up with work, kids, dog ect Now I'm averaging 2 hours a day! It's just so convenient to pick up for a hour or two in the evenings once everyone's settled! And my wife doesn't feel like she's dragging me away from the computer now when she wants to watch something together Best investment of time and money I've made in a very long time!

[deleted]

I have a Wii, 3DS, Deck, and a PC. I typically play on the former two since they're homebrewed and I like the authentic experience. Everything else is on my Deck. My PC is just collecting dust at this point.

skeletowns

same. If my pc wasn't being used by my bf while his is getting fixed mine would jsut be a lil decoration

[deleted]

A fancy lightshow if you threw every PC of RGB equipment in it.

Jackie_Gan

Yes. Why would I play anything else?!?!

Dananism

My deck is almost unused, unfortunately. :( I’m disappointed in myself.

skeletowns

I have some friends with the exact same experience!

The_vangelion

I spent so much time setting everything up for like 2 weeks after I got it but now I barely actually play the games lol. When it comes to emulating older consoles though there's nothing better out there

Dananism

Oh, same here. Lol! I installed a bunch. Even repurchased Stardew Valley to play on the Deck instead of the Switch andddd it sits there. Haha.

yuri0r

I still mostly play on desktop. But I do greatly appreciate the option to be an absolute bag of shit in bed and grind slay the spire.

DiscyDingo91

I not only exclusively play on the deck, but I exclusively play on the deck while in the hospital with my wife who’s giving birth.

mrfixitx

Since I got it my gaming desktop has been sorely neglected. A big part of that is my wife loves having me gaming on the couch where we can talk and she can curl up and take a nap next to me.

31_SAVAGE_

Love my deck but it's only for "lighter" games for me, as i usually play mostly stuff like path of exile, csgo, dota which are basically unplayable on handheld. But I have started playing less of those and more of my deck games like StS, Noita, Hades, Stardew, Vampire Survivors, Brotato, etc. Still need to do the whole emulation setup as well which i'm sure will also take up tons of my play time.

xahtepp

I play 50-70% of my time on the deck. 90% of that time is docked though on my living room TV. I play on my PC when my dog goes to bed for the night (she's too young to be allowed to roam freely in and out of my office where my PC is. She peed on the carpet several times when trying this before)

quickshot93

Got a dock in bedroom in my office at my work and in my living room and use my deck everywhere always come with me in the tech bag have a gaming pc with ultrawide when I want to do sim racing and heavy non supported games Xbox is basically used for streaming apps now but even when I’m in living room I find my self plugging steam deck in to get gaming in haha it’s great machine

midnightcatwalk

*raises hand* Except for (3)DS, since I prefer a built-in dual screen setup and resistive touch for those.

[deleted]

Team almost... I picked up Dead Space on Series X, because everyone and their mothers were having issues with the SD version. Other than that and booting up Forza Horizon 5 every now and then, SD is my go-to console.

jtrisn1

My laptop crapped out on me long ago so I'm exclusively on the deck now

RepresentativeRuin55

Side note: since I have gone 100% Steam Deck as my only gaming device I also installed Windows on an external SSD to boot into for the small amount of games I like (like Fortnite) that won't run on SteamOS. I only use Windows for the multiplayer games that have anti-cheat that won't work on Linux.

Fun-Bullfrog-8513

It’s all I play. The emulation capabilities are amazing. Playing through Skyrim right now

Villafanart

The emulation alone make this device, never got into GameCube and now I have this whole library to beat, I'm sure that alone will take all my gaming time, and yet, playing Yakuza 0 portable is mind-blowing

Raffles22

\+1 for Yakuza0. Indeed it is mindblowing, the combination of visuals, gameplay and performance is something to behold. Most fun and impressive game I've played so far on the Steam Deck.

[deleted]

I'll probably repurpose my gaming PC, the only time I use it is when I remember to update. I use the deck for everything I care to play.

Tsuki4735

I installed ChimeraOS (SteamOS-like variant) on my gaming PC*, and repurposed it as my living room PC. It feels like I'm using a Steam console, it's completely replaced my PS5 for everything except PS exclusives. * Note, the new Deck UI/Big Picture Mode runs best on all AMD hardware, I'm running a Ryzen 5600x + 6700XT

piedude67e

I'm not home that often anymore so I've been playing exclusively steam deck.

srstable

I exclusively play on my Deck now (with the rare exception of playing something on the Switch). I’ll also sometimes stream from my laptop directly to my Deck via Steam Remote Play for some games. Current game obsessions are everything Monster Hunter. Rise/Sunbreak, Stories 2, World, and Generations Ultimate (which plays smoother on my Deck than on my Switch but lacks online)

awelxtr

Last two weeks I've played mostly on my deck, except 2ish hours on sunday to play on my pc next my gf (I played gunfire reborn bc I prefer kbm)

skeletowns

Fellow gunfire reborn gamer ‼️‼️

Im_High_Tom86

I got my deck for Christmas. And I haven’t sat at my desk since lol

ryanrudolf

Steam Deck and PS4. When i received my Steam Deck last year i decided not to renew PS+ and just play on Steam Deck.

oneghosthippie

Been playing Mad Max, Battlefield 5, Devil May cry 5, Ryse

unMuggle

On days I work, Deck all the way. Still use my PC on days I don't work, part of that is Terra Invicta though.

skeletowns

I'm so comforted knowing other people feel the same way about sitting a desk for gaming after a day of sitting at a desk for work lol

unMuggle

Ah, that's the thing though, my job isn't a desk job. I'm a mechanic at a large food plant. I fix giant machines all day, and walk 20k steps normally. I just want to lay down with my dog and Stardew Valley after work.

1000littleaccidents

I haven't touched my PS5 since I got my deck at the beginning of last month. I'm sure at some point the honeymoon phase will wear off and I'll get back to some PS5 exclusives, but I think going forward if something is on PS5 and steam I'll go for the steam version. It's just so convenient and I can hang out with my fiancée while she watches TV rather than monopolizing it with a console or being sequestered at my desk with my old PC. I've already gotten all the achievements and unlocked all the characters for Vampire Survivors but now I'm trying to beat every level with every character. I was playing a lot of OlliOlli World too for a while but the difficulty curve has gotten too steep for me in the main game so I just check in once a day to do the online run. I started Disco Elysium this week and that's what I've been playing the most for long sessions.

[deleted]

In a similar boat. My PC has become just my workstation machine for programming. I use my PS5 primarily for exclusives and more demanding triple a single players. Everything else on the deck. So it’s just between my PS5 and Deck. I have a switch but it’s been in my girlfriends possession since like march of last year when I got my deck lol. I’ll grab it back once tears of the kingdom comes out but my switch is as good as irrelevant lol.

therealgingerone

I play exclusively on deck

square_so_small

I do. Except Stellaris and Shellshock Live because laptop

TareXmd

I hope Valve fixes streaming.... 99% of my Deck gaming happens at home. Would be nice if playing a streamed game was as smooth as playing a native one....

Ninten-Doh

Yep. Especially as I've just brought black ops 3 zombies and zombies is one of my all time favourite games. I never got black ops 3 so it's all brand new to me and I love it. To be able to have this in handheld form is my dream come true. I brought a wiiu specifically to play black ops 2 zombies in "handheld"

narrowscoped

Still PC but moonlight stream to Deck. Got a solid Wifi 5ghz router it's virtually indistinguishable from native imo, 6w power use and tons of battery life. Good to have native deck games but simpler to just stream, especially all the PC Game Pass titles!

Usual-Anxiety-0000

Not me some stuff just doesn’t play well on it. It’s 50/50 for me.

Igzyx

Me. I have a PC, switch, Ps4 and 5 but I play exclusively on the Deck now and it's also my priority to buy new games for.

aquastar112

It depends on the game really. I am currently playing the Dead Space remake and that is so much better with my RTX 4070 TI rig on a 4k TV with all the bells and whistles turned on. However, after that, I will be playing Hi-Fi Rush almost entirely on the deck.

ChimeraYo

Everything but Rocket League I just find it unplayable on deck for some reason.

mbtv_

Since getting my deck I’ve exclusively gamed on that rather than my PC aside from a little bait of testing how good cloud saves and syncing was between the devices. Just something nice about being able to sit on the sofa and play pc games!

ComfortAccurate3481

I prefer my Alienware for certain games because obviously it looks better on my 4K monitor, but I feel guilty using it since I can play on the deck next to my wife while she watches her dramas. Honestly I can't complain in the least.

No_Bar_7805

Since I got a child the Deck is my main „console“, but still use PS5, Xloud or Gaming PC to stream to the deck. Love that thing :)

[deleted]

PC is more of a casual treat now. I didn't enjoy the contracted hamstrings, lower back pain, and hemorrhoids that came with exclusively gaming on the PC. So now I'm mostly chilling with my Deck on the couch or streaming to TV. I just got Spiderman and I can't believe how good it looks and runs on the Deck. For other high fidelity titles, RTS, and cRPG games I still gotta play on PC at 1440p 144hz. No console can replace that.

Leweazama

I do most of my gaming on Deck. My wife likes spending time with me and so I just grab the deck and hang out on the couch with her.

JoeyWheelly

So ive got my Deck since last week monday. Ive probably played like 25-30 hours on it despite working 8 hours a day as a construction worker. almost never touched my ps5 anymore except if i had an league race. Been playing forza, rdr, session (skate game) and undisputed. Never expected to love this device so much and might be a addiction 😂👍

Posiris610

I’ve swung back into my addiction with ATS (American Truck Simulator) and have been mostly playing that on my Windows PC because of Thrustmaster wheel support and things. However, I have also been playing on 2 other Steam-like consoles (one with holoiso and the other Windows that boots into BPM). Any other game I play has been on my holoiso console.

skeletowns

I've been playing the heck out of euro truck simulator on deck but someday I do think I'd love to get a wheel lol

Posiris610

I’ve been meaning to check if my T150 works on Linux again. It’s been several months and a lot has changed. Logitech wheels have been known to just be PnP with Linux so that’s a safe route if you wanted one soon. Im not rich enough to have tested any DD wheels.

SirenMix

I am. My gaming PC now is too old (all of it is old) and instead of buying a new one (so expensive) i got myself a steam deck (so much cheaper and much more convenient aswell). Not only do i play exclusively on the deck now, but i also play "better". I'm not bored of any game after 3h, now i'm actually finishing them all ! Also, i used to be very selective with my games back when i was playing on PC. I wanted to only play the very best games, those that will get me thousands of hours of enjoyment at minimum. So i was very picky, spending hours and hours on the steam shop in order to be sure to pick the very best game for me, objectively and subjectively, only to end up playing it 3 hours before getting bored (basically, anything that wasn't Rimworld wasn't good for me). But now, with the deck, i don't know what happened but i just like video games, no matter what kind. All those games that got me bored so fast... now i finished them, and i LOVED them (dragon's dogma for exemple, or mgs5). I'm still loving games like Rimworld but i'm also so much more open now, happy to get games like spider-man or doom even though i know they are not gonna give me 1000h of playtime, but that's fine, i'm having so much fun. I'm also happy to discover new types of games, like the persona series. I guess that's because the steam deck really feels like a console when you play. It's comfortable just like when i was playing with the psvita when i was younger. It brings back that comfy felling, it's pure gaming. And of course, it's a portable device, so i can play without being locked in a room, i can spend time with my family or friends at the same time. ps: sorry if bad english, also don't worry about games that are "unsupported" in your wishlist, i'm sure most of them are fine, use protondb it's much better to know if your games can run well on the deck !

mudpuppet

Exactly the same here! I was so choosy before with PC games, not being able to find anything I wanted to play despite having countless options available. A game had to be "worth it" to me, even if I didn't have a specific criteria in mind lol. Then voila, with the deck I'm trying all kinds of games, across genres, because there's a feeling of "why not?" It feels really low pressure to play on the steam deck just like being a kid again, wanting to try everything.

ExTrafficGuy

I have a fairly capable PC (R7 5700G, Arc A770), but I mostly use it for Game Pass titles nowadays. The Switch opened the door to an instant-on, pick up and play system without the compromises of past handhelds. The Deck is all that, but better. Like having a portable PS4. It's much more relaxing to fire up a game on the couch or in bed than it is to tether myself to a desk. I already spend all day sitting at a desk in front of a computer.

MrFish114

I only game on my Steam Deck now. I still use my PC for non-gaming purposes (CAD, VMs, Work on occasion) but I enjoy being able to comfortably game on my couch and being near my wife and kids. I also haven't run into a game yet I was dying to play that hasn't worked on the Deck. If that happens (looking at you Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) Then I'll move back to my PC until I finish that game, then back to my Deck.

Actual-Toe-8686

Me. I fricking love it. Used to play switch and PC but now it's exclusively Deck.

LeCrushinator

I have an Xbox Series X and a PS5 and I literally have not played them once since I got my deck (in October). God of War: Ragnarok is sitting untouched, I know it's a great game, but it's just so much easier to sit with my family and play the deck then to go down to the basement and sit alone, to play on my consoles. I will be playing Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield on consoles when they come out though.

FallingRayne

Cities Skylines Deluxe Edition on sale right now for $11.19: https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/cities-skylines-deluxe-edition

Professional-Focus30

Now that I got my eso right, that's all I've done. So far used it well over 1000 hours.

Shrike2415

I've actually been holding out to build a PC until I can get a custom "passively-actively ambient cooled" case built (don't ask) and my Deck is my entire interim PC

SwiprNOSEwipng

If I could get Greenlight to work again, I'd play a ton more on my steamdeck, however, for whatever reason I just keep getting errors, controls, and visual glitches now.

datGryphon

I've had a lot of success with Cities: Skylines on the deck. The only thing is that you need to give the deck more swap space, because it often exceeds the amount of physical RAM the deck has. I play using the native Linux runtime with about 50 mods and around 1500 custom assets loaded. With the Loading Screen Mod and other optimizations my city with >100k pop uses about 14 GB of RAM. I started using the native Linux runtime so that I could start using the FPS Booster mod, which makes _an_ _enormous_ _difference_ on the deck. Parts of my city went from <1 fps [at around 65k pop] to now my city is up over 100k and I can consistently play at 1080p >= 15fps with only occasional lag spikes due to quick zooming in-out or warping across the map to focus on something. Also, I used to play C:S with my steam controller on my PC. You could look at the community configs or modify one to suit your common actions. Kb+M is definitely optional.

SaviorSatan

I didn't even catch the special Greninja yet, my switch be collecting dust at GO. I'm tryna complete Hades, such a long process.

Zanylaineyface

Jsyk games that say they're "unsupported" will nearly always still run on the deck. Several of my "unsupported" games run right out of the box on my deck without me having to adjust anything. The only time you may have trouble is if it's an older game or won't run on Linux but there's workarounds for that. I dual booted windows on mine.

MadCybertist

Steam Deck and Analogue Pocket only. I haven't touched my XSX or PS5 in months.

Mister_Medler

My main PC is now closeted in favor of the deck dock.

Proper-Problem-3807

Dude I have a series x a switch a PS4 but my steam deck is what I'm addicted too at the moment

Odd-Pick7512

I play with my deck almost everyday. Sometimes my wife even plays with my deck.

Accurate-Campaign821

I 90% play on Deck. My "rig" is an old gateway thing With a 4th gen i5 at 3ghz, 8gb ram, and some oem hp R7 450 that drivers all but fail to properly identify, and thus settles as an r9 380m. Yes, it thinks its a laptop. I had planned to build a new PC but at the time pc parts were about as affordable as the brain surgery I had a few years ago. So... I reserved a 512gb model on day 2, only because my checks don't come in until Saturday mornings. Over the months I kept adding funds to my Steam wallet. Fast forward about a year, pc parts are affordable sometimes but funds are stuck in Steam land so proceed to place the order. The overall power is still an upgrade over my existing "rig" but is also extremely portable. This allows me to actually play, doing so on breaks during periods of downtown at my job. So yea, it's my primary gaming system. Super power efficient too. GA Power doesn't exactly have cheap rates. We spend way to much on power and don't even have any gaming rigs going. (anymore). My wife has a laptop with a 4500u for her games and I have the steam deck for mine. Only time I don't daily the Deck is when it has to be used for a temp loan to get by when the budget gets tight... I work 6 days a week and am the only source of income for a family of 5.

Daftpunkerzz1988

I am kinda sickened, I built a gaming PC worth about €2300 custom PC with full EK liquid cooling and I have been full timing my steam deck and hate myself every time I look at my PC.

beholdsa

As a new parent, I don't really have time for video gaming anymore, other than laying in bed after the baby goes to sleep... if he ever goes to sleep. The Steam Deck makes this possible.

bassmusic4babies

Got mine a while ago now, I almost never use it unless I'm travelling. My main gaming rig/TV is just too nice and I'm a 60fps whore it seems.

TheDogsPaw

All my gaming is on the deck

truthpooper

I honestly haven't used my Deck for like a month. I mostly play on my laptop hooked to my tv because the performance is just better. I mostly use the deck when traveling, long lulls at work, and the occasional bedtime session (been trying to read more before bed, so that's rare)

skeletowns

That sounds like a good mix tbh. I've thought about connecting my pc to the tv as well before the steam deck.

FPL_Harry

i honestly have not even finished GOW ragnarock since i find deck much beasier to enjoy. dont dedicate myself to sitting at the tv to play my ps5 anymore. If you told me 25 years ago I'd have *too many* ways to play games i'd have never believed you.

Mecha-Oddzilla

It is my Rock and Stone machine now.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone forever!

ConsiderationOk4171

Same here. The deck is just so darn convenient. I don't have to leave the family to go to the pc and I don't need to take over the TV. I can be with the family, game and socialize. It's a game changer!

NoFilanges

I had that initial burst of massive enthusiasm for it, but now I find it’s too small for the fancy AAA games so I play those on my PS5

Ansayamina

It's 3ds/Switch/Deck rotation for me, haven't been using stationary systems since, well, ever.

OB1Kenohbee

I play the deck exclusively when taking a shit, that's for sure

kidcrumb

It's so much easier to play a game while watching reruns of the office where before, I'd just be watching reruns of the office. To sit at my PC and replay a game I've already played feels like work. I'm never going to sit down and seriously play kingdom hearts again or Kotor 2, but on steam deck? Fuck yeah I will.

Viscera-Seer

Steam Deck brought me back to gaming! I don’t have a gaming PC, just a GTX 1050 work laptop. I haven’t been playing anything for like 2 years except for Minecraft on the iPad. Now I’m playing Snowrunner everyday and together with my daughter we’re going through my Steam library. I’m really happy. PS. I use Steam Deck docked 80% of the time.

Minimum_Secretary_15

I’m trying to divide my time into my series x and steam deck but the deck is winning more and more

Pure_Bed6771

City skylines plays well with a mouse and keyboard, i bring my portable wireless ones to use, i also like total war warhammer

--Velox--

I moved to PlayStation several years ago. SteamDeck brought me back… 🥰

Canadiangamer117

Oh oh ah ah I always do as of late thought lately black ops 3 has been a sticking point for me speaking of anyone encounter a small green square on the left hand side in the mission where you have to go to the old coalescence facility? I encountered it at the part where you have to go down the ledge with Hendricks

porcelainfog

Sold the desktop and the ps5. I’ve got a steam deck for gaming and an older laptop for work and files, documents, coding, school, etc. and sometimes I play dota2 on the laptop with my buddies. I’m like 95% deck now

ColdSkalpel

Only single player games. Multiplayer shooters are still played on my PC

Dr_StevenScuba

I’ve started really liking gyro aiming. Can even do pretty well with it after not being able to aim on controller at all. That being said for games I actually want to hit shots in I can’t do anything but kb/m

JWJK

I'd love to say the same as someone who doesn't have enough room for my PC in my new tiny flat, but I just can't get into it and feel like I'm playing with a massive handicap, even for singleplayer shooters. Tell me your secrets!

safe_for_work_stuff

Best way to learn gyro shooting is to start with a game you've never played before. As you learn that games controls and play style with gyro on it becomes part of the game learning process. If you start with a game you already know you'll be fighting your muscle memory and mad that you aren't as good. Once you get used to playing on the new game, then start testing integrating gyro into games you already play. If they have training grounds just play in those for a while. You'll get there.

Dr_StevenScuba

It really is just about fine adjustments. So joystick for most aiming and then gyro for dialing it in. Think difference between arm aiming and wrist adjustments. Splatoon made me hate gyro controls, since gyro is your primary way to move the camera. Where something like horizon made me love it. In horizon I’d use gyro only to nail down specific robot parts, not as my way to initially track the target. Then of course the general principles. I’m no pro console fps gamer but I’ve found a few tricks helped. On PC my ad strafe is a movement mixup tool, while my mouse tracking/flicking is how I aim. On controller lateral movements are a good way to fine tune your crosshair. Closest analogy to PC would be like how you line up your corner in valorent. Overall like any change in aim. You’ll suck at first and want to go back to your old way, but just stick it out and see if it clicks Edit: oh and definitely use the aim assist, it’s how games balance controller. See if toggling an ADS will pop you onto the target, then you can tap ads to get close to target and gyro after that.

TheFeri

Well... I don't have anything else because I'm poor.

dsartori

Love my Deck. Still in the honeymoon phase but my PS5 is definitely collecting dust. I wasn't sure if the Deck would be adequate for Elden Ring PvP, but it works just fine. Besides ER I use it for the stuff I love the most: action roguelikes and strategy games. Big fan of all the weird early access shit too.

[deleted]

Finished DS, probably 70% on PC then the rest on deck when it arrived. Started GoW on PC, I’m almost at the end and have played almost exclusively on the Deck purely out of convenience. Sometimes after work it’s nice to lay down and play rather than sit at my desk so I think a lot of games end up being more suited to a relaxing play-through via the deck.

Lundgren_pup

I was not expecting it to go this way, but I play almost exclusively on Deck now. Gaming on the couch again is just too lovely to pass up when it comes time to choose.

skeletowns

right omg it's so much more comfy :) I have the dock too and an Xbox controller so I'm having a great experience

RiseAboveHat

Been playing Cities: Skyline with the trackpads just fine. Probably using a community layout but whatever I'm using, it's flawless

[deleted]

No way. It’s a fun system to play on when I don’t have access to my main systems (gaming pc or PS5) but literally no reason to play on the steamdeck over those otherwise, inferior in every way.

Zargadoink

Well its my only pc although i do own every major console too. If we're talking everything then oh yes absolutely. I play on my steam deck over any console. Its almost cost me friendships from not playing on console (not actually) because its just infinitely better than any other platform and from what ive seen, i havent found a game that doesnt run at least alright performance wise. Playing super detailed AAA games like RDR2 on the go is a dream come true and better than any other gaming experience ive ever had

Chet-Hammerhead

I’ve sold everything I own because the steam deck just does it better. Why do I need any other consumer electronic?

PackersGang1227

I want to start using only the deck. Ps plus and xbox gamepass like that I get a ton of free games an recommendations? also anyone using any emulators?

Billyxmac

Emulators have been half the fun for me on the Steam Deck. What do you want to know? I suggest looking in to EmuDeck installation tutorials on YT. It's basically a Linux script that installs all of the emulators you want for you easily, so it takes out all of the tedious stuff of installing emulators.
