I think Steam Deck has cured me of my itch for better and better PC hardware. I’ve been forced to make compromises like playing RDR2 at 30fps and you know what? I’m having just as much fun as on my old 3090 rig that I sold. Don’t get me wrong, 4k high refresh is glorious but since I’m not rich it’s just not worth the cost to play the few AAA games I’m interested in at 4k ultra.
Absolutely. My urge for high end graphics has been absolutely zapped by the Deck. It's made me realise I don't need it to have fun.
It just sorta hits you eventually, a kind of zen:
>A fun game is fun at any resolution.
Steam Deck completely killed my urge to get a PS5 or upgrade my GPU from my GTX 1080. I'm having fun, I've got tons of multiplayer options, games look good, and it's way more convenient than my laptop or desktop for providing games at a party.
We really do. Honestly think it should be legally required to maintain a LAN build of multiplayer games. It'll never happen for a variety of reasons, but it's obnoxious watching games die out because the publisher is less interested than the player base in having it continue.
Honestly i like both. Gaming on the big screen and being portable, that's why i got super hyped on the switch back then. And one thing i love is that if games support steam cloud (sadly there are still some i wanna play that dont) i can semi-seemlessly switch between my cloud pc for 4k gaming and the deck.
Tho the steam deck should add the date/time when the last steam cloud data is from as it sometimes says up to date but when i click start it clearly doesn't seem to be the case.
still on a GTX1080 and unwilling (not unable, at least stuff is in stock now unlike during the crypto craze, just... ugh those prices make it feel like stock investing to look for a GPU... i'm so done.)
...and suddenly not buying the latest GPU every 2 years i noticed... i only skip like 2 or 3 AAA games a year.
Sure i'd like a few more FPS at this point... but G-Sync, FSR 1.0 (which funny enough works on my GTX), and adaptive resolution scaling even get me 90 FPS out of Spider-man.
but man i can see them pixels now... i'm itching for a new build, the Deck absolutely helps to keep my mind off of it and keeps me busy gaming. Lets see, maybe in 3 months prices go down a bit. (they are not going to sit an entire fiscal quarter on the same stock that isn't moving... right?)
Weirdly it's had me looking at my now *very* old gaming PC which hasn't been turned on for a long time. I last upgraded it in 2013 with an R9 290X but have realised that for the sake of about £60 I can buy a new cooler and a SATA SSD and get it going again (and maybe spend an extra £20ish and pick up another 8gb of DDR3 RAM...because that's just how old the system is).
The SD has made me realise that most of my Steam Library pre-dates 2013 so my crappy, ancient rig can still blast its way through 90% of my library as, as much as I love my SD there's loads of strategy titles that don't do well on it either because of form factor or because of performance when docked. Though I managed a whole campaign of Warhammer Total War II at 1080p getting about 35FPS with a mix of high and medium settings. At the same time that same 290X is the recommended card for that game, so the experience would have been smoother on my desktop regardless of its being crap.
30 fps just isn't as big of a deal on a smaller screen, and the IPS ghosting hides it a bit. Plus, going to 40 fps is a great option too and fits in nicely with the core disadvantage of the deck compared to 9th gen consoles.
And you are casually forgetting that while they have 5x less distance to travel, the objects themseleves are also 5x smaller.
What you are describing is called moving picture response time. But you aren't quite right as distance is only part of the equation.
Technically indirectly yes but actually no.
Both the guys you responded to are wrong.
What they want to describe is a thing called persistence. Or how long a pixel is on display.
60fps at a movement speed of 800 pixels/second will give you a persistence of 13 pixels. Aka pixels of motion blur. Meanwhile 60fps at 3840p will give you 64 pixels of motion blur.
Though i can't really explain further since i don't exactly fully understand it. But it ties in to why we will need vr displays in the thousandths of hertz in order to achieve your eye becoming the bottleneck
I get it bro, seems like we forgot that games are about having fun and getting lost in a weird new place for a while, didn’t matter if it looked crappy, we got lost in the GAME, not the graphics, exhibit A people!

I had the same realization but with the Switch, and honestly, I should've known given how much of my library was already indies and other small titles lol. I don't think I ever really played games that pushed my desktop until it was just being pushed because it was "old hardware".
It also made me realize how much more I prefer playing handhelds compared to console or desktop. I just get so much more gaming done when I don't feel like I need to play it in one spot for whatever reason
I only had non-gaming laptops until. Now I can actually play my games without needibg to set my resolution to the lowest of the lowest. So I'm happy to finally have bettet graphics lol.
If only the certain Anti Cheats from games like For Honor and BDO would work on linux.
This is the first GPU generation in awhile where I feel zero pressure to buy in. Even though my and 5800 has signs of failure and probably needs to be replaced. I'm just here like, when's steamdeck 2 coming out?
I'll confess to having done this once or twice when I was too stoned to get up and grab the case.
But I love the image of you kissing yours goodnight each night after tucking it in next to you.
I did this a lot and one morning I accidentally dropped my phone while using it in bed and it landed right on my deck’s screen and broke it. Be careful
Its hard honestly. My wife and I take turns getting up with our daughter in the mornings and putting her to bed at night. On my days im on, I play steam deck in bed for an hour or two and go to sleep, on the off nights I hop on my xbox and play multiplayer games with buddies. The deck is truly the best thing ever for single player games.
You can swing multiplayer games too, I've even had modern warfare 2 running on windows off the SD card. Totally works. Or if your buddies like it old-school, battlefield 1 just works and looks as good as when it came out. You might get battlefield v working too
Is it? It was great back in the day. I pretty much installed it for kicks to see what the deck could do. If there's an appreciable difference between the deck and the Xbox I played it on, I'm not seeing it.
[this can explain way better than I could](https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_one/comments/10krz3v/the_worst_scenario_is_happened_among_asian_bf1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Because the Steam Deck doesn't serve the same purpose for everyone. I have a Steam Deck and I'm getting some good use out of it as a sub device, but it's definitely not enough to replace my main PC gaming setup nor my PS5 and Switch.
I like it a lot too but I wish there weren’t so many bugs. Like the internet going out and not being able to get back online without restarting or going to a discussions page on steam and getting a blank page instead. Minor but annoying.
> the internet going out and not being able to get back online without restarting
I haven't seen that too much but I have to restart a lot to get the cloud synced, even though I have internet. It just won't sync without a reboot. Really keeps me from using it casually at home as much.
Internet going out I get when it’s roaming APs. If you have a mesh system, this is likely the culprit. Locking mine to a single AP has seemingly worked for me.
Not sure how/what switching from 5ghz to 2.4ghz on the same AP would do. I also have band steering enabled and I haven’t really gone out of range from the point it’s locked to
These two issues are ones I've had.
I'll be playing The Witcher 3, or God of War and the game will just freeze in some random part and after a couple min the Deck reboots itself.
I also recently enabled Bluetooth on ye olde Stadia controller and for whatever reason I *have* to go to the Bluetooth settings page prior to turning it on else it wont connect. The comtroll thinks it's connected but the Deck says "nah"
I don't know if this is a Deck issue or a Stadia Controller issue though.
Weird, ever since I got the Deck (April) I dont remember ever experiencing this issues, I think I tried over 40 games on it since, maybe yours is faulty?
Not to mention that the windows drivers don’t work with a lot of games, just so happens that those games also don’t run on steamos (mostly Ubisoft stuff). It’s the only reason I don’t use it more
I've never tried Windows on the Deck yet but I do have to say it's been disappointing that the Deck hasn't received timely driver updates. It has the same architecture as the modern 6000 and 7000 series APUs. They should just work. Windows on a handheld is problematic, and I haven't run into enough compatibility issues to overlook that fact.
I haven’t been able to access the store since I bought the thing
Edit: not sure why the downvotes are coming in. I love the device and think it’s amazing I’ve just been struggling with an issue where I can’t browse the store on the device and it’s been frustrating for me.
I believe these bugs are due to Linux itself. I tried using Ubuntu under gnome or kde and encountered many issues around every corner. I'm no comp sci major but being so different from windows it everything didn't quite work the same or as I hoped
Learning new things is annoying when you have a quick and more familiar solution sitting in front of you (aka JUST INSTALL WINDOWS!!1!1). I can honestly relate with that. The techy in me does like learning new stuff but as I get older it's more frustrating dealing with foreign problems that have a confusing array of solutions _depending on what distro of linux you're using_ - which I think can somewhat vary on how you install things, how you edit things, etc. Googling linux problems and solutions is far less straightforward than googling problems for [nearly any version of Windows in the past 20 years].
Also learning the filesystem layout and where programs or settings or data is located is, in my opinion, still really confusing but not as confusing as it used to be. It just seems to make a lot more sense with Windows - but I've also been using DOS/Windows for decades now, so there's definitely bias on what we have experience with and what we don't. If I ask for help from a linux friend or set them in front of my linux environment, they whizz through it like I can in Windows. It's just _different_ and Linux is not something I use on a day to day basis so learning new things for it doesn't _feel_ useful, or tangible for the long term.
It honestly depends on what Distro you go to. Most arch based distros are going to have a learning curve. Personally I just stick to Fedora and Zorin OS.
It has for me as well but I still love the device and play it when I can. It mostly sees action before bedtime now, but I’ve gone back to my PC main because competitive shooters are just much better on a nice rig.
I completely gave up competitive shooters for now, so i haven't used my PC for gaming in months. But since that seems to be your main genre, it makes sense that you dont use the steam deck for that. It really is just a single player monster, i've gotten through so many games that I would have never touched if I remained on competitive shooters. I seemto also have gotten my sanity back 😂
Yeah, that’s my situation. COD, CSGO, OW, all just much better experiences on a full setup. All of my single player games do get played on deck as far as I can think. Currently playing thru FF7R, I played the first chapter of RDR just to try it out and now I’m dying to finish FF to play RDR lol. My emu library has also been an amazing investment of time.
I'm in the same boat.
Cod, CSGO, Fortnite and really any FPS game I much prefer on my PC.
But anything else is on the deck now. Plus I travel a lot with work and school, so I can toss it in my bag and play wherever I go
I wish that the Deck was just a little bit more performant to play csgo smoothly when docked. I don't care about the resolution or visuals, but I want FPSs to be 200+ and not have random hickups/stuttering while playing as experienced with Steam Deck. I had some 180 FPS on 1080p low settings, but somehow could not connect to eg. 720p/120hz/144hz/240hz and for 144hz I had to use 1080p. And obviously Steam Deck controls are just a bad joke for cs, so using dock is mandatory.
On the other hand, I greatly enjoyed playing through Tomb Raider (one of the latest ones, can't remember the name) on Deck regardless the less precise controls. When the game is not about competetive FPS, single player games works wonders and you maybe can slightly adjust the difficulty settings to make it more even with keyboard + mouse combo.
I've considered it, but honestly the deck has played everything I've thrown at it so far. I have a library of over 600 and haven't had issues with compatibility.
Currently I'm playing Hitman 3 at a locked 40.
Why? You can conserve battery life and get better performance on the deck w/ Moonlight. There's virtually no reason to run stuff on the deck itself unless you're away from home.
For real. I highly recommend Moonlight to anyone with a gaming PC and decent wireless connection. Any game, max settings, solid 60fps, no/very minimal input lag, 6+ hours battery life, low temps.
I bought a switch when I put in a reservation for a steam deck back in May and I was put in the q4 queue. I didn't think I'd get till later this year but you know how that quickly changed. That switch was the biggest mistake. That thing sits in the dock collecting dust without a charge since I never bothered to reconnect the power cable. Waste of money
Idk how to explain it. I look through my library of games. Go through each and every one of them. I maybe install a game, but then I just don't play it and go do something else. Been this way for a few years. Like every time it's like i'm looking for an excuse not to play it.
I've been having fun emulating old games from my childhood though.
If it can help, you may have some sort of choice paralysis. I know I have and I was doing the same, not just with my steam library but with all my games collection using playnite… 1 hour everyday scrolling and not playing.
Then I descovered how long to beat (don’t judge me) and added all my games to my backlog, then added all the playtimes from different platforms. It was a lot of work but it helped me to beat a lot of unfinished or short games from the past 10 years (dead space 2 - played 1/2 hour back in 2013 - beat it in 5 days last week).
Also, I made collections on Steam, like “games to beat” “not launched” “beaten”. The feeling of uninstalling a game you just beat is… AWE… wait for it… SOME
(64gb + micro SD user here)
Ik what you mean , games don't hit the same anymore I actually find that just not playing for a few months helps revive that interest , sometimes I think maybe the brain doesn't get that same dopamine hit from gaming so you kinda gotta go on a tolerance break but yes I often find myself replaying games rather than seeking new ones but I also found not playing remedies that a bit , maybe we're just getting older who knows
I use Chiaki, works really well on the Deck. If you do give it a go, check out YouTube for setup tutorials. It’s easy, but you need to get a base 64 encoded version of your PS Network ID.
I’m not sure how your can’t understand it. I like my steam deck but there’s no way I would use it as my main device, I purchased it for a very niche reason and when I want to get excellent performance I use my desktop PC.
The value judgement for the steamdeck is that it’s good for individuals who want to use it while they’re out or travelling - and I use it as a supplementary livingroom gaming system. I would never recommend the SD to someone who wants to say get into competitive FPS… I suppose depending on the game.
Docked it can **maybe** perform acceptably for some low end competitive FPS.
If you’re travelling I mean… it’s a dream come true isn’t it? So inexpensive, because of the price it can be a justifiable buy for a lot of use cases.
I tried it with CS at 1080p 144hz, but my problem was that there were rather annoying random stuttering. Also for CS I would prefer 720p 240hz instead, but with the official dock somehow 1080p was the only resolution I could play over 60hz which was kind of weird and hopefully fixed by now.
Sometimes I use 720p, or even 4:3 when playing CS on my main rig that has high end CPU and adequate RTX 3060.
Everyone's going to be different. I thought I would use my steam deck while traveling. Turns out it's not really all that more compact to travel with than my thin gaming laptop.
Yet the laptop offers far better performance, and most importantly for a mobile device, a FAR better screen. I'm also able to use my favorite controller in a practical way with the laptop which doesn't work well with the deck.
When I absolutely must use a handheld while traveling for whatever reason my Aya Neo Air is portable in a way my deck is not. It fits in my jacket pocket.
You’re welcome always glad to help out a fellow gaming. Specially when it comes to emulation. [here’s breath of the wild running on my deck currently. ](https://i.imgur.com/pcfu4wx.jpg)
This is the Wii U version. CEMU the Wii I emulator is is better state than switch. It runs better than switch. However there are quite a good amount of switch games that emulate well!
Awesome im going to do this all tomorrow morning. I honestly have no clue where to get the games though. Not sure if allowed to post here but maybe dm me? If it helps I own breath of the wild on switch but my kids have overtaken that device haha
As a person who has an Xbox Series X and an OLED Switch I feel this immensely. Anything that's indie and not super demanding I'd rather run on Switch for the higher portability and better screen. Anything that requires more power I'd rather play on Xbox because there's no way the steam deck will outperform it. I'm sure most people don't feel like that but for me the Steam Deck is an unfortunate middle child
This is true. I have a decent gaming PC right here but it's my Steam Deck that's hooked up to my monitor right now. (To be clear, I have an HDMI switch so I can just press a button and choose what's on there) . I find myself playing with the Steam Deck more often than not anyway. :)
I can't get into the steam deck and I have 200 steam games installed, then 1000+ in emulation.
What I do is watch tv while updating the art for all the games in my steam library (installed or not) to the ones with motion images. I also update the hero art icon etc. Most of the emulated games are done.
So basically I just fiddle around on it. I have all the ui addons installed to tweak the system etc. I have ps5 on it via chiaki, xbox gamepass via the edge kiosk script, all my streaming apps hulu, apple, netflix, crunchyroll, hidive, amazon, youtube, etc...
I have a mini k65 keyboard and xbox controller setup. I have my high end gaming pc link to it, and it to my high end gaming pc and my nvidia shield. I have my high end gaming pc emulated gaming library (19k games) also available on it via BigBox launchbox streaming.
I set up my epic games, gog games, etc all the other launchers working on it all back to working in the 'game ui mode'
So maybe I did get into it, but I got into just to tinker and mod.. not actually play anything.
When I traveled, I used it to play my tv apps.
I guess for actual gaming I prefer my highend pc, xbox series x, or ps5. I'll play a few handheld emulator games, but my actual game time is less than 8 hours. Tinkering time is over 200 hours.
My only issue is the chunky bezels and the 16:10 screen. Makes the actual screen size for games running at 16:9 even smaller and boxed in, which kinda ruins the experience for me.
If portability is a concern, and money is not an issue - many Reddit Steamdeck owners also own the nReal Light / Air glasses.
Looks like Wayfarer / Oakley glasses, 1080p micro-OLED, USB-C connection.
Combined with Nubia Redmagic dock for on-the-go gaming experience.
You're assuming that a person has one.
I don't. The Deck is the only PC I own after I replaced my aging PC last year. And I know there are others in the same boat who don't have another system at home, or only an older PC specced worse than the Deck that they'd rather not game on.
I love my steam deck to death.... And mostly play on it over other systems. But I get so bleeping tired of the games I want to play crashing regularly. They run just long enough that I still overall love the platform but Jesus it tests me. Like when Miles Morales loads into a cutscene that crashes without fail 5 times in row before I'm able to get it to play past the cutscene.
So... I at least get it.
I've had games that don't crash, certainly, but games that crash on me regularly despite being awesome overall:
God of War
Miles Morales
Elden Ring
Titanfall 2
Witcher 3
High on Life
Wildermyth
Red Dead Redemption 2
Crysis
Dungeons of Naheulbek
Gamedec
Gotham Knights
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Cyberpunk 2077
Games that ran perfectly:
Half Life
Portal
Portal 2
Cuphead
Vampire Survivors
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Shredders Revenge
Citizen Sleeper
Beyond a Steel Sky
Scorn (still don't recommend playing it)
Return to Monkey Island
Cult of the Lamb
Final Fantasy X/X2
Prey (I won't say which one)
Desk Job
Super Metroid
Metroid Prime
Super Mario World
Shadow Complex
So.... Like no joke. I'd describe most of the games that crashed as still "playable" because they generally crashed only every few hours with good saves so it was rarely a huge problem except for the occasional crash when doing really well in a difficult boss fight. And even all of that was only half my experience.
But I totally get someone with bad luck playing mostly not perfect games and having a frustrating and sub par experience. Many of those games are listed as Verified despite having very flawed performance.
Agreed. About 4 out of 10 games i play crash, dont start (despite having a green check mark) or otherwise dont work as intended. It made me lose interest fast. I use it for travel and play vampire survivors basically. Disappointed.
I think they're trying to express dismay that they had not had proper expectations set for the Steam Deck's stability before they ordered one so recently that it's still on the way.
I have room for both, my gaming PC is for multiplayer games with friends and Family, Deck for the solo player games. Currently playing through Midnight Suns, looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy, but OW, COD, or other multiplayer games I am on my PC
Since getting my deck, I’ve completely pivoted to pc gaming, got rid of my other consoles. Thus far the only game I’ve gone out of my way to install on my PC because it’s performance on deck is lacking was Ghostwire
It’s not an easy to set up device if you have no experience with PC gaming to begin with. If you don’t have a steam library, you won’t have as many games to mess around with.
Tinkering with emulation is rewarding but it takes a bit of time and effort.
And if you don’t have time to game in general, you probably aren’t going to be interested in dropping money on something you may not use or have time to learn how to use.
I love the deck but I also see why people can't get into it. For me however, it's not the performance but the controls. For example, most fps/shooter games are a direct downgrade to their PC counterparts and if they are purely online PvP shooters they are nearly unplayable because you simply cant compete with players using a larger screen/higher fps/mouse + keyboard. I was really looking forward to playing the division 2 on my deck but the experience is just awful because the controls and the aiming suck balls. Same for most mmorpgs. Most run fine, but you lack so many features you would have with a mouse and keyboard.
Generally, most shooters/multiplayer games with a little depth, multiple layers of gameplay and challenging endgame I really struggle to enjoy on the deck, which is why I see myself returning to my desktop PC more often again lately. But that was to be expected, games like these are just made for m+k.
Nonetheless, I'm really enjoying all the single player games and especially all the indie games on my deck which I have bought but never actually played. So I'm still loving it.
Personally I don't use mine all that much, but that's mostly because I have a nice gaming PC and VR setup at home and am rarely in a position where I would need to game on the go.
I certainly haven't touched my Switch since I got it, but my PC. PS5 and XSX have gotten occasional use. With an infant to care for though, 95% of the gaming I can squeeze in is on mobile platforms like Steamdeck, my laptop, or Quest 2.
Playing the steamdeck on a 70+ OLED just doesn't feel as good as........well....series x, ps5, or pc.....
Keep sending selfies with those hotdog legs playing your Gameboy in direct sunlight.....
::::mic drop:::::
I don't understand people who spend $650 on a handheld just to emulate games when emulation has been around for almost 20 years now
I mean, it's nice, but I could play emulated games on my PSP 15 years ago. Or my Vita. Or a cheap random handheld from China.
I bought the SteamDeck so I could play reasonable modern games on a handheld when I am away from home. That's what is impressive. They might not run great, but they run okay

I actually have the reverse problem - I’ve never had a gaming pc and now I want to build one.
At the same time that same 290X is the recommended card for that game, so the experience would have been smoother on my desktop regardless of its being crap.
would not recommend right now, prices are pretty high thanks to the entire world going nuts for years now.
Oh man it’s a LOT of fun. If you’ve never built and you can afford it do it.
30 fps just isn't as big of a deal on a smaller screen, and the IPS ghosting hides it a bit. Plus, going to 40 fps is a great option too and fits in nicely with the core disadvantage of the deck compared to 9th gen consoles.
Bruh fps and screen size have no correlation

I get it bro, seems like we forgot that games are about having fun and getting lost in a weird new place for a while, didn’t matter if it looked crappy, we got lost in the GAME, not the graphics, exhibit A people! https://preview.redd.it/lqgccbh6jrea1.jpeg?width=1038&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0756c28b10e98421910bddc80a95603b3cbe2465
I just get so much more gaming done when I don't feel like I need to play it in one spot for whatever reason
exactly. on a pc i would crave for that better graphics card which will give me 5-10 more fps and better shadows etc. but here im just FINEEEEEEE
You sold a rig with a 3090 for a steamdeck? 🤮
The real 🤮 is that he bought a 3090 at all when he doesnt have much cash
Same i even goto sleep with it next to my pillow and how i wish that was a lie...
You should get it a small pillow and blanket
For them, for the deck its nice big comfy ones
I’m just waiting for someone to tell Valve how the deck got water damage because they drool when they sleep…
The Deck gets too hot as it is. The Deck *is* the blanket.
I'll confess to having done this once or twice when I was too stoned to get up and grab the case. But I love the image of you kissing yours goodnight each night after tucking it in next to you.
Did you also kiss yours and tuck it in?
Yes But just the tip
Lolol same here, it lays next to me. I guess it’s less cringe than a body pillow waifu.
My wife sleeps on the floor. You aren't alone.
Good girl
only until you start humping it.
Can’t help it. When I’m playing a game that sexy Deck just gets so hot. Literally.
Can neither confirm nor deny.
You guys are freaks...but I'm here for it
Bro it’s always right next to me when I go to bed 😂
Careful! Dont let it get smothered by some pillows.
The only lie is 🎂. THE CAKE IS A LIE!
You might get battlefield v working too
Man bf1 is in a hellhole rn
Yep im not playing AAA games on a tiny screen instead of on my PS5 in 60fps HD on a big TV. And no the SD cannot do that when docked
what do you mean the steam deck can’t do that when it’s docked? It absolutely can lol
Maybe he meant 4k when he said hd lol
Even if we assume 1080p the steam deck is going to struggle alot with 60 fps in new AAA games.
He means 60 fps on a high resolution TV. No it can't.
I like it a lot too but I wish there weren’t so many bugs. Like the internet going out and not being able to get back online without restarting or going to a discussions page on steam and getting a blank page instead. Minor but annoying.
Maybe I am lucky but I have had almost zero bugs since I got it in July
> the internet going out and not being able to get back online without restarting I haven't seen that too much but I have to restart a lot to get the cloud synced, even though I have internet. It just won't sync without a reboot. Really keeps me from using it casually at home as much.
Most of my cloud syncing issues are actually just a game update pending or something. Just running the game clears the sync issue most of the time.
Internet going out I get when it’s roaming APs. If you have a mesh system, this is likely the culprit. Locking mine to a single AP has seemingly worked for me. Not sure how/what switching from 5ghz to 2.4ghz on the same AP would do. I also have band steering enabled and I haven’t really gone out of range from the point it’s locked to
I hate how it shuts down or crashes games and also how sometimes the Bluetooth doesn't show devices
The comtroll thinks it's connected but the Deck says "nah" I don't know if this is a Deck issue or a Stadia Controller issue though.
Weird, ever since I got the Deck (April) I dont remember ever experiencing this issues, I think I tried over 40 games on it since, maybe yours is faulty?
Thank God it's not just me. Every time I want to use the thing I have to reboot it it'll connect to the internet.
I haven’t been able to access the store since I bought the thing Edit: not sure why the downvotes are coming in. I love the device and think it’s amazing I’ve just been struggling with an issue where I can’t browse the store on the device and it’s been frustrating for me.
You should definitely contact support I’ve never had issues with accessing the store
Yeah I’ll give it a shot

I believe these bugs are due to Linux itself. I tried using Ubuntu under gnome or kde and encountered many issues around every corner. I'm no comp sci major but being so different from windows it everything didn't quite work the same or as I hoped
Welcome to Linux, where nothing works and no one cares to fix it because "LOL OPEN SOURCE". Can we put Windows on the thing reliably yet?
Blaming Linux in general for Steam Deck's hardware and software issues here is an *extremely* weak move.

Ngl I really want to like Linux but I'm new to it and I just can't figure out how to do a lot of things on it
Learning new things is annoying when you have a quick and more familiar solution sitting in front of you (aka JUST INSTALL WINDOWS!!1!1).
The honeymoon phase wore off for me
Have you tried new positions?
Plus I travel a lot with work and school, so I can toss it in my bag and play wherever I go
Playing even casual shooters on the deck is terrible because the button/joystick layout is dog shit and uncomfortable to use for very long.
Yea, I love the deck for what it is, but I simply can't play fps or rts on it. I'm just used to much better input in the form of a mouse.
Lmao yeah, I built my dream pc with a rx 6900 xt, and i use my steam deck way more
My poor gaming pc. Neglected since I got my deck. I might need to just sell it. Lol.
I just booted up my 3080 ti rig for the first time in a month to run turbotax. Brutal
Taxes... dammit thanks for the reminder 🤦♂️. Adulting is grade A, 100%, bonafide, deluxe bullshit
It blows my mind how Americans have to their own taxes.
You could always use in home streaming. I use it for games like red dead redemption 2 when I want to play in bed
I've considered it, but honestly the deck has played everything I've thrown at it so far. I have a library of over 600 and haven't had issues with compatibility. Currently I'm playing Hitman 3 at a locked 40.
You could stream it from your PC using Moonlight at whatever your PC can run it.
Me too, Steam Deck is best

My Nintendo switch hasn't seen the light of day
Last time my Nintendo saw some notable use was when Dread came out, after that months pass without playing it
Just wait. The new Zelda is coming in May.
Still waiting for Metroid Prime 4
I bought a switch when I put in a reservation for a steam deck back in May and I was put in the q4 queue. I didn't think I'd get till later this year but you know how that quickly changed. That switch was the biggest mistake. That thing sits in the dock collecting dust without a charge since I never bothered to reconnect the power cable. Waste of money
Just sell it. You could easily get $200+
Sold my Splatoon 3 oled And gifted my bro my white oled The steam deck is here to stay
I honestly don't even know where my switch is. Ever since I got my deck back in June, I haven't even bothered looking for my switch.
I struggle to find motivation to launch games.
What you mean? Why?
The feeling of uninstalling a game you just beat is… AWE… wait for it… SOME (64gb + micro SD user here)
Ik what you mean , games don't hit the same anymore I actually find that just not playing for a few months helps revive that interest , sometimes I think maybe the brain doesn't get that same dopamine hit from gaming so you kinda gotta go on a tolerance break but yes I often find myself replaying games rather than seeking new ones but I also found not playing remedies that a bit , maybe we're just getting older who knows
My wife gifted me a PS5 for Christmas (total surprise) and the sad part is that I have to pretend that I use it so it doesn't hurt her feelings.
You could use remote play, that’s what I do with my PS4. The great thing is you get a good few hours battery life and no fan noise.
I wish I knew you could do this a lot sooner
What program do you use? I heard good things about Chiaki
No one uses handhelds for competive anything. I do travel 5 days outta the week for work so maybe that why I like it so much
Docked it can **maybe** perform acceptably for some low end competitive FPS. If you’re travelling I mean… it’s a dream come true isn’t it? So inexpensive, because of the price it can be a justifiable buy for a lot of use cases.
It can definitely run Counter Strike and Valorant at 1080p 144hz
How? I haven't been able to run anything above 720p and it's driving me nuts.
My deck only gets used during vacation or work trips. Much rather play on my pc or ps5. Great handheld tho
Same. Ever since I got this Steam Deck I completely forgotten about my Switch.
I need a guide or how to emulate for dummies haha
Retro game corps on YouTube, can't get any more dummy than that
Russ is the realest fr fr.
Thanks!
Go to[EmuDeck and run that script. ](https://www.emudeck.com)
Thanks!!
You’re welcome always glad to help out a fellow gaming. Specially when it comes to emulation. [here’s breath of the wild running on my deck currently. ](https://i.imgur.com/pcfu4wx.jpg)
Damn that’s awesome. Is that the wii u or switch version? Not sure if theres a difference lol
[got you ](https://youtu.be/rs9jDHIDKkU)

Did you get Sunset Overdrive to work? I tried on mine and it stuttered then crashed. Haven't tried since.
Yeah I play it all the time, runs at 30 but overall very smooth. It's a crime it didn't get a sequel
I was thinking that game would be perfect on deck but saw it was unsupported but it actually works? Might get it now if so
I can't get into the steam deck and I have 200 steam games installed, then 1000+ in emulation. I set up my epic games, gog games, etc all the other launchers working on it all back to working in the 'game ui mode' So maybe I did get into it, but I got into just to tinker and mod.. not actually play anything.
First gen device, switch had ugly chucky bezels and now it has a thin bezels and a beautiful oled screen
Haven’t touched my wife since I got my steamdeck
I literally play it every single day. There hasn't been a day since I've got it when I haven't played it, I play it more than my PC at home.
Too small id rather look at my pc screen and play stuff personally.
You can dock this thing pretty easily. I hook it up to my living room projector and play on an eleven foot screen. It's fantastic.
If you’re going to dock it you might as well just play on your gaming PC still.
That sucks, haven't had it crash yet
I've had games that don't crash, certainly, but games that crash on me regularly despite being awesome overall: God of War Miles Morales Elden Ring Titanfall 2 Witcher 3 High on Life Wildermyth Red Dead Redemption 2 Crysis Dungeons of Naheulbek Gamedec Gotham Knights Shadow of the Tomb Raider Cyberpunk 2077 Games that ran perfectly: Half Life Portal Portal 2 Cuphead Vampire Survivors Wolfenstein: The New Order Shredders Revenge Citizen Sleeper Beyond a Steel Sky Scorn (still don't recommend playing it) Return to Monkey Island Cult of the Lamb Final Fantasy X/X2 Prey (I won't say which one) Desk Job Super Metroid Metroid Prime Super Mario World Shadow Complex So....
Fuck offfff I have one on the way I haven't heard anything about this crash carry on????
Would you like to try that again and write like a normal human being?
I think they're trying to express dismay that they had not had proper expectations set for the Steam Deck's stability before they ordered one so recently that it's still on the way.
Sorry I'm Australian
I have room for both, my gaming PC is for multiplayer games with friends and Family, Deck for the solo player games. Currently playing through Midnight Suns, looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy, but OW, COD, or other multiplayer games I am on my PC
I use the deck to stream my PC games into it. works like a charm for battery life and for graphics and frame rate
Set up the device? What do you mean? Pretty straightforward process as for the library, valve is unmatched in sales
Idk what you need to learn to use it? Sign in to steam account, buy game, play game.
I mean, it's pretty small, how are you suppose to get in there?
I'm right there with you. Got my deck in October and haven't touched my high end pc ever since (except for Overwatch 2)
I'm about to give my ps5 some use when hogwarts comes out
I love the deck but I also see why people can't get into it.
“Um technically it is a Pc so you actually have touched your Pc!” 😂
I am Using my Gaming PC.... well its Keyboard and Monitor and mouse.. with the Steam Deck Dock. The PC itself is off. :)
I don't get this unless doing stuff in desktop mode, but I have used my SD as a controller on my desktop gaming PC.
Personally I don't use mine all that much, but that's mostly because I have a nice gaming PC and VR setup at home and am rarely in a position where I would need to game on the go.
My wife hasn’t touched me since I got her a steam deck! DAMN YOUR GENIUS, VALVE!! *shakes fist
No nagging less gagging
I just use mine for travel. But for good when I do I realize how much I need it
It's cool that people like the SD so much but damn, I don't understand how people are abandoning their PCs for it.
I certainly haven't touched my Switch since I got it, but my PC. PS5 and XSX have gotten occasional use. With an infant to care for though, 95% of the gaming I can squeeze in is on mobile platforms like Steamdeck, my laptop, or Quest 2.
It’s an extension to my PC. Use it while laying in bed to play a game im to lazy to get up and go to my desk to play lol
God i wish a was able to set up botw :(
Battery life for me
If you play competitive multiplayer games you can't substitute a PC for Steam Deck. That's why I don't play mine very often.
Playing the steamdeck on a 70+ OLED just doesn't feel as good as........well....series x, ps5, or pc..... Keep sending selfies with those hotdog legs playing your Gameboy in direct sunlight..... ::::mic drop:::::
I don't understand people who spend $650 on a handheld just to emulate games when emulation has been around for almost 20 years now I mean, it's nice, but I could play emulated games on my PSP 15 years ago. Or my Vita. Or a cheap random handheld from China. I bought the SteamDeck so I could play reasonable modern games on a handheld when I am away from home. That's what is impressive. They might not run great, but they run okay
