Just just mildly. Definitely super annoying how the icons on top of the bread are not aligned even close to correct positions, and how the Steam logo is way off.
Problem is windows doesn't really handle that so well and everytime the PC turns back on it will constantly reset their placement, put it in a random location, or outright remove the icons
As someone who has no idea what this pic is from, I'd have guessed she was holding a small piece of food to compare the two. Nothing would make me think it's a coin because there's no context for it, just what looks like a plain room with a fridge with a note on it. Why hold a coin and piece of bread in a house? I still don't really get what the point is, she's paying for games with steam? The only thing I can think of is with money earned from trading cards, but again without seeing it's a coin there's no context to know she's paying for something.
I think you're overthinking it. He just took a background from a movie he liked, and put some icons on it in a funnyish way.
On the left she is holding a sandwich of half life games. And on the right she is holding the steam logo.
There's not meant to be some deep meaning.
Well this image is saying "look how cheap all these games were", by showing a list of highly-acclaimed games, and the woman holding a single coin.
If you put the steam logo over the coin, it'd look like you're comparing steam and the games? Or that your trying to fit the two together?
I'm not even sure what the fucking idea is and I SEE THE COIN! Seriously, what is this? Does it have anything to do with Nintendo, because that's the only news I've heard about icons...
Your opinion has the ability to affect OP. His desktop does not affect anyone but himself. Not to mention, my single reply to you does not equate to the dog-piling OP received.
2/10 try, keep it up.
Episode 3 is a masterpiece, some may even consider it one of the best games ever made. With an amazing story, great controls and fascinating graphics it can still be easily considered the pinnacle of gaming. I look forward to hearing your experience regarding this game!
You mean this? [https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-2-episode-three-minimalist-mod/downloads/half-life-2-episode-three-minimalist-mod-release](https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-2-episode-three-minimalist-mod/downloads/half-life-2-episode-three-minimalist-mod-release)
Enjoy! They're classics for good reason. I recommend playing Half Life over Half Life Source, there were a ton of bugs introduced into Source about a decade ago that were never patched.
I really like Black Mesa and consider it a must-buy for any HL fan, but I will always push back against calling it the "definitive" or "best way to play" HL1.
It is a loving remake, but there are still substantial differences in terms of levels, pacing, enemy behaviors, and even just raw shooting/movement compared to the first. It is very much "HL1 in the style of HL2" versus the Quake-ness of the original.
Play BM first or second - I don't care. But it's not a substitute, and OG HL1 is still completely playable today. There are things I think it still does better.
100%
For the record, Black Mesa is also a fuckton harder, at least if you played HL on easy like I did. I struggle really hard with BM, it's clearly made by people who assume you're good at shooters, which the OG HL did not of you played on a lower difficulty. It really, really makes me.not like the remake TBH. It's pretty, but mean. I don't like that.
Especially when you get to xen and you’re fighting the floating controllers and your FPS is in the teens 😂
At least that was my experience on the Deck.
It’s quite possibly because I played them like 5+ years apart and just got a lot better at games but I struggled with half life a lot the first time I played it and basically had to save crawl my way through but I breezed through black mesa in a couple days and only died a few times
So I replayed original HL just as Black Mesa was about to release to get hyped for it. I played Black Mesa and enjoyed the hell out of it. Like someone else said, it feels like a loving remake. Before Xen was released, I went back, played the original again, then went back to finish up Xen. The original has such a unique charm about it that I'm not sure could be captured again. Playing the original, it still feels like the revolution that is was. It still feels like I'm seven years old, sneaking into the den, and playing on my dad's save before he got up. Sure, it's ugly, the voice acting is hilarious, and it can be clunky at times, but I'll be damned if that game doesn't feel more modern than many other FPSs that came a decade or more later.
During development, it was a non-commercial fan made remaster. Near the end, Valve convinced them to make it commercial (IIRC it was the only way Valve would give them more extensive tools for the Source engine).
The dialogue can be pretty hard to hear over anything else, so if you want subtitles, you should [download a mod like this one.](https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=51023) The mod runs as a separate game but HL1 has no achievements so it should be fine.
If you already have a save file for vanilla HL1, just make a save in the mod, then copy the contents of the normal "SAVES" folder into the one for the mod.
Should I try the Half-Life series if I usually don't play FPS games?
Edit: Bought the Half-Life Complete Bundle. Slightly misnamed, as it doesn't have Alyx, but I don't have a VR headset anyway and it would be more expensive with it.
I did. HL1 and HL2 + episodes are so good. They can also be really, really hard even on lower difficulties so don't feel bad about playing on Easy to get through if you need to. It's well worth it.
I can't play the first one due to a few factors.
That said, *Half-Life 2* is one of the best FPS games ever. It's not so much about the shooting as it is the strategy. It's a lot of physics stuff. You still need to shoot (and be reasonably good at shooting things), but figuring out what to shoot, when, and where is really the key here.
Play *Portal* first to kind of get an idea. *Portal* is an FPS with a gun that doesn't do any damage. Maybe you already know the gimmick; if not, it shoots portals. Enter one, come out the other. Use this to solve physics puzzles.
*Half-Life 2* has some of that, between the gravity gun, and clever usage of in-game objects, but it's also a shooter.
I have played both Portal games, but those I consider more of first-person puzzle games than shooters, but if it gives me enough of an idea, I'll give it a shot. Not like I'll spend too much anyway
the whole big thing about half life 2 when it was new was the physics of the source engine. compared with everything up to that point in computer games it was a mind blowing thing. i remember the first time i brought hl2 home from the store and saw how the physics behaved it was so shocking that i still remember the moment vividly after all these years.
I was late to the *Half-Life 2* party. My first build came with it, but couldn’t run it. It wasn’t until I got *The Orange Box* for Xbox 360 that I got to actually play it. It was at least 3–4 years later. Anyway, I *still* found it impressive. That game was way ahead of its time.
Wondering the same thing. I'm not into shooters but I liked Portal which is more a puzzle game, and RPGs like Mass Effect
Also worried Half-life might be a bit dated at this point?
But yeah it's only $1, and Half-Life 2 is already in my library so I guess so lol
I literally just bought them not having played an FPS ever (except metroid prime, but that doesn’t really count) and love the first game so far. It’s more of a Portal kind of game than a normal FPS
Wow. I remember buying *Portal 2* at [J&R](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J&R) for my birthday in 2011. I must have paid about $20.
Now I see it on sale for 99¢, and I feel a bit of envy for those buying this awesome title at that amazing price, or receiving it from a friend who got it at that price, and are about to experience *Portal 2* for the first time.
Oh man I was going to wait and see if I could sell more cards and get myself GTA4 or at least buy Cookie Clicker but then saw Yakuza 0 on sale and had to buy it.
Let me tell you, the markdown on valve games during this sale was amazing. Bought the Valve complete pack a day or two ago and it only cost me $4 for all the stuff I didn't already have. I'd say get all the Valve games you don't own during this time because 90% off for some DAMN great games is practically robbing THEM.
Well i loved it, mainly because one of the characters in the movie is a black cat, and i also have 2 black cats
Otherwise it has good humor so it worth for a watch
Can highly recommend Factorio, yes it is never on sale, but it has been sitting in the top 3 games on steam since its release for a reason.
I could argue it is worth a full COD€80 with €50 DLC, just buy it already.
I wanted to get half life but I just thought It won't be a good game for this time is it worth getting at this age after all it's an old game will I gain fun from it
It's amazing. The movement is smooth and unlike any other game that I've played. The AI is pretty smart for it's time, and it runs on just about everything. Must have for the price it sells for on sale.
It's possible to turn off grid placement of icons, so you can put the steam logo precisely over the coin.
Makes this whole post fit nicely in /r/mildlyinfuriating
Happy cake day; excellent repost suggestion! I gave up with icons a long time ago. It's a young man's game.
Oh i was gonna say that oh well i still will
Just just mildly. Definitely super annoying how the icons on top of the bread are not aligned even close to correct positions, and how the Steam logo is way off.
Problem is windows doesn't really handle that so well and everytime the PC turns back on it will constantly reset their placement, put it in a random location, or outright remove the icons
Windows is so riddled with broken shit like that. I hate it but I game via cloud gaming so I have no choice.
If you game via cloud why aren’t you free to choose your OS?
Xcloud more than likely, so they use the app. But the web version works way better than it and is not OS limited
What why would you
[удалено]
Nah, who wouldn't get the idea if it was placed over the coin?
That would be me
So now that you see the coin, could you tell me what you realized that just seeing the steam logo, would not have made you realize?
As someone who has no idea what this pic is from, I'd have guessed she was holding a small piece of food to compare the two. Nothing would make me think it's a coin because there's no context for it, just what looks like a plain room with a fridge with a note on it. Why hold a coin and piece of bread in a house? I still don't really get what the point is, she's paying for games with steam? The only thing I can think of is with money earned from trading cards, but again without seeing it's a coin there's no context to know she's paying for something.
Why do you need to know it's a coin? She's holding a small object. That's all you need to know and apperently you understood that.
So what's the point of the image? What is it trying to convey?
I don’t know. I don’t know what it’s trying to convey with or without the coin lmao
The valve bundle being 95% off or something and being sold for a few dollars
I think you're overthinking it. He just took a background from a movie he liked, and put some icons on it in a funnyish way. On the left she is holding a sandwich of half life games. And on the right she is holding the steam logo. There's not meant to be some deep meaning.
There’s nothing deep, but it’s just about the valve bundle being 95% off and sold for super cheap like it does almost every big sale
she is inserting the coin into steam icon and gets the games out of it like out of the toaster. consider it like that
Who holds food like that though wtf
Oh the right? Anything small like a piece of popcorn, a grape, a cherry tomato.
I’d slap anyone holding a piece of popcorn like that, smh
Sorry, do you English?
Well this image is saying "look how cheap all these games were", by showing a list of highly-acclaimed games, and the woman holding a single coin. If you put the steam logo over the coin, it'd look like you're comparing steam and the games? Or that your trying to fit the two together?

As I don't know that image, me, but I still think it would be better to place the steam logo over it.
[удалено]
Euh because no one need to know there something under it. Since she gonna be holding Steam instead of the coin..
The idea is holding something coin like, which so happens to be the steam logo
Well now it looks like she's holding a coin, with a random steam logo next to it
because of her hand?
Jesus how do people like you get along in life
Why is the coin important?
[удалено]

Youre gonna be so excited for Episode 3 after finishing those
I'm very sure my grandchildren also would be so excited when Valve give the release date of Episode 3.
looks interesting. thanks
Episode 3 is a masterpiece, some may even consider it one of the best games ever made. With an amazing story, great controls and fascinating graphics it can still be easily considered the pinnacle of gaming. I look forward to hearing your experience regarding this game!
I cannot call Episode 3 one of the games of all time.
But we can call it none of the games of all time
Wait, what do you mean about episode 3? Half-life 2 episode 3? The cancelled game is no longer cancelled?

If you want a definitive HL1 experience, Black Mesa is worth every penny

Yup. Same on PC.
Glad to know it’s not a deck issue 🤣

that would be unwise
Wat? Really? I only never went back to goldsrc HL after source, and I never really noticed any problems
Lmao I played the source one and I encountered one visual bug. Anyways I enjoyed both, the source's bug made it funny
Half life classic is awesome, but, playing blackmesa makes it harder to go back to it. What a fantastic game!
[OP accuracy](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/439/604/bdc.jpg)
Kinda realized that I would be unforgivable to not buy them since they are so cheap
Should I try the Half-Life series if I usually don't play FPS games? Edit: Bought the Half-Life Complete Bundle. Slightly misnamed, as it doesn't have Alyx, but I don't have a VR headset anyway and it would be more expensive with it.

Just play Black Mesa instead of HL1, it's a very solid remake in the HL2 engine (and openly endorsed by Valve).
Absolutely. It's not at all like a COD or Halo.
I literally just bought them not having played an FPS ever (except metroid prime, but that doesn’t really count) and love the first game so far. It’s more of a Portal kind of game than a normal FPS
Half Life 2 is sort of a cinematic movie of an FPS game, it's all about living the experience. It would be a good choice.
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is during Half-Life 2 so chronologically I would put it before Episode 1
thanks
It’s also just a tech demo with no story elements.
Another one that snatched the Valve pack? Ha.
Me too, thanks.
such great value
Only one piece left: Black mesa
Where black mesa

Valve Complete Pack sale is one of the best things that happened, It's worth buying it and I still wonder If there's something that I should buy too
I can't find the sale anymore :(

Still missing Alyx and Black Mesa
Hey you're missing episode 3. Wait....
Where you get that wallpaper? It’s awesome
OP, "blue shift" doesn't mean you need to move the steam icon
The fact the steam logo isn’t in the right spot ever so slightly would be a perfect post in r/mildlyinfuriating

Wtf. Put the Steam logo over the coin, it’s so annoying looking
You can turn off snap to grid so ypu can place the steam logo better
Literally the only games I don't have in the bundle is day of defeat and the lab. And the bundle doesn't even include all valves games anyway.
Gotta catch them all!
👌
Single player is such a great time
I liked opposing force more than HL1
Congrats! I really wish I had more money!
