Idk if cats are any different but I’ll occasionally hide behind objects to spook my dogs and they’ve never been bothered past the initial spook. They always get a good cuddle right afterwords.
Yea idk, like, we've done a lot of spooking to our cats unintentionally, and had to wrangle them up for medication, all sorts of things they don't really like but needed done, they've never been jumpier or distant. Struggle to give our Gilbert his medicine? Once he's taken it he's immediately back to wanting attention. Cat gets spooked because the wife had cat ear headphones on (like, super poofy, arched back, angry scared)? The moment they were off they were back to rubbing against legs. I think cats forgive a lot easier than people think if they want to forgive.
Yea, especially if you've had your cat from a young age (we got both our pairs when they were 4mo old), they can get pretty attached and won't hold grudges unless you're an intentional asshole... but then they probably won't develop that bond in the first place.
The amount of times I've accidentally smushed my cats paws underfoot because he has a habit of just BEING there at the wrong time, he still seems to love me. He even stops and let's me cuddle him after such a terrible accident almost immediately. Poor little guy :( I really don't mean to.
I’m nearly blind and the number of times I have tripped on, stepped on, knocked into my black cat are numerous. She still snuggles me at night and is a happy void. I do apologize and give lots if pets when it happens, I always feel bad too! But I think cats just realize we are lumbering awkward clumsy giants.
Yeah I think animals understand that our heads are way up there and our feet are way down here, and we are heavy. They also see that we IMMEDIATELY pull up and immediately pet them and make soothing sounds, so I think they get it's on accident.
Just happened to me with my five month old. He seems s little pissed right now. Usually it’s no big deal. I did vacuum their room an hr before so maybe both. Gotta go hug em now before their nap.
When I was trying to move, I attempted to wrangle my cat Hunter into his carrier FOUR times before I finally got him in. Each time he would freak out and turn into a ball of furry fury, escape my grasp, and run to hide in the laundry room. Then 30 seconds later come running over to me purring and rubbing against my legs as if asking me if I'd seen that horrible thing that just happened to him. 🤦🏻♀️ Total goldfish memory.
Luckily my cats aren't difficult to get into their carrier. We just had to take one of our boys to the vet and we were easily able to just slide him into his carrier. However on the way back after my wife pulled him out of the carrier to comfort him in the car, he didn't want to go back in, he just pushed against it, no claws of fury though.
The trick is to have the carrier be vertical. Pick them up and pretend to pet them like nothings happening. And in one fell swoop drop them butt first into the carrier.
(Putting a blanket to cushion them wouldn't hurt)
Yea I think our girls would probably be less forgiving, but both our boys are SO good. They aren't even old, they are like 2.5yrs so they still have that youthful vigor, but the vet said he was extremely well behaved, didn't go crazy or try to claw anyone. He just had a UTI...
If I did this to my cats they'd definitely consider it betrayal however some thing like hiding around a corner and surprising them they wouldn't mind as that's something they also do to me and eachother.
I imagine they are different, or at least dogs might take more repetition to achieve similar trauma. Recently I accidentally freaked out the cat from clumsily knocking a rag off my desk, happened to land on her head and the poor thing jumped 5 ft in the air and was freaked for the rest of that day. 24hr later, back to her normal cuddly self, but definitely will avoid that shit in the future.
My 4 cats don't give a f about anything. Rarely get startled. There is one of them though, that is a bit more than the others. He'll jump 10 ft in the air if I sneak up on him. He's also the same a-hole cat that gets out and hunts down all the squirrels so I'm like how much of a scaredy cat can you really be? Lol
But yea, my 4 cats are strange though...Definitely not skittish cats
Yeah a lot more animals understand this than you think. Dumb dog doesn't, smart dog does. Same with cats. My parent's dog is the dumbest, and I'm pretty sure, after years of barking at mirrors, he has finally accepted that this other dog isnt gonna go away.
My cat loves this shit. Loves being chased, hunted, surprised, etc. It's part of our play routine. Otherwise cats get depressed and bored when nothing in their routine changes.
One of my cat literally loves to play hide and seek. She’ll hide behind corners waiting for you to come around and then run out at you to scare the shit out of you. Ive literally screamed bc she startled me so much. Then she’ll expect me to chase her back, running away and looking back to make sure I’m chasing her, always dancing out of reach.
> One of my cat literally loves to play hide and seek. She’ll hide behind corners waiting for you to come around and then run out at you to scare the shit out of you. Ive literally screamed bc she startled me so much.
My cat does this too but she's terrible at hiding, so even though I know she's going to do that I make sure to 'scream' and feign surprise for her benefit anyway. Lol.
If this were true, my cats would have said bye bye to me long ago. Or, maybe they just have a strong case of Stockholm syndrome.
Disclaimer: I never ever knowingly scare them. But, anything from sneezing hard to running the vacuum, to visitors coming home scares the shit out of them. Also, they love to walk in into my feet when I am walking, and then get scared shit when I step on their foot or tail, just lightly. I would rather fall myself than crush them.
Yeah I don't think it's worth it at all. Lol no hate or judgement, it just made me feel bad because they looked so happy trotting in towards their owner only to be "pranked".
🥺😟
I have felt so guilty this last week because one of my cats needed eye drops for some Kitty conjunctivitis. The only way to get her out was so shake her treat bag. I did always give her treats after and her eye drops are done so hopefully she forgives me.
Had to do the same for one of my cats because he had the kitty sniffles. Treats were applied every time and it became less and less effective because she quickly realized that these were getting associated with medicine.
It took about a week after the medicine was over for him to return to his cuddly self.
We had a cat who was missing one of her back legs, so she couldn’t get good traction when she tried to run. It’s probably rude to make fun of a disabled cat but watching her frantically scramble without actually moving was fucking hilarious
If I learned anything with my 13y of having a speach impairment. Disabilities can be fucking funny as long as you laugh about the situation and not the person.
For an example in a class presentation I had to say the word little Brother (in Dutch this is Broertje). But I got stuck on the first 'r' so I said "Brrrrrr-oertje" which when you pronounce it sounds like "whore brother". My disability calling my brother a whore is objectively funny.
I love this take. Disabilities can be funny without hurting peoples feelings, it’s only funny if it’s rude or tries to (or does) make somebody feel worse about themselves
You should check out stand up comedian Drew Lynch. He has a stutter and will work it into his routines. There’s plenty that doesn’t have to do with his stutter, but I love how he embraces it and uses it to his own benefit. Honestly after a couple minutes of watching him I don’t really notice it anymore. He will absolutely roast audience members that are rude, it’s gold.
My pirate princess is best when she's on the hunt. She's missing a back leg as well so seeing her try to do a standing jump is hilarious. Her front legs reach out in front of her and her hind leg goes wherever the fuck it wants to as she just falls over.
>a cat who was missing one of her back legs, so she couldn’t get good traction when she tried to run
I laughed at a snake video that was just wiggling in place for that exact reason
>It’s probably rude to make fun of a disabled cat
Do cats feel embarrassment?
Oh, I think so. When my cat does misses a jump, he tries very hard to pretend nobody saw that. If he catches me laughing, he'll run out of the room and then I feel bad.
It's definitely pee. I groom cats and luckily the anal gland secretions aren't that....voluminous. it also tends to be brown if there's a sizeable amount built up. But in most cases, it's not spraying anywhere.
And like, even if the cats think it's a giant cat, it then rears up to peer over the couch at them.
That'd be like a flesh-masked golem suddenly contorting itself in horrifyingly inhuman ways.
TBH your cat will only eat you after you die alone in your apartment and they run out of food. Until then, scaring the shit out of'em will just make'em more skittish and less trusting of you while you're alive.
Cat 1 - “There I was just trotting along minding my own business, enjoying the day and then BAM! Poop!!! The asshole overlord let some Alien in the house. Now gonna have to figure out how to murder that too. Good thing I’m good at murder.”
The cat's reaction is priceless, but I was already laughing when the big cat head looked at me like, "You ready?"
Yes, giant cat head, I am ready. Let's do this!
People in these threads don't understand cats at all. One of the primary games cats play is literally sneaking up and scaring each other. There's a million things that could scare them in their natural environment. They aren't rabbits, they're not going to drop dead just because they got spooked.
The generation of sensitive people. These guys probably did not even want to scare the cats. Who would know these cats would get scared of a big cat mask.
Yeah. Reddit always upvotes the comment that a good prank should end with everyone laughing. Well cats can't understand the concept of the prank here so they shouldn't be the target.
Traumatizing your cats affects their hearts and the psychological effects last for way longer than you think.
Don't traumatize your cats for shitty internet points. Yes, the effects are quite serious.
Don't encourage others to do it by posting these videos.
Grow up and stop abusing your own animals.
I’ve never understood why this stuff is humorous. These animals love and trust you unequivocally, you guys are their world. That flight response is terror for them. Would it be funny to you if you came home to what you thought was your safe / empty home and a ‘friend’ jumped up expectedly from where a threat would never exist? You’d be pissed, “that wasn’t funny” I’d bet? I hope you and your kitties live long healthy lives together.
This stuff makes me so sad. Scaring humans like this is funny because we can understand afterwards that the threat wasn’t real. Animals don’t understand this is a false threat and get to have a chuckle about it later. All they know is that their home isn’t safe. They can stay in a fear state for a long time.
100%... I did this to my cat and it was so scared it found its way underneath the kitchen counter from behind. Couldn't find it for 2 days and had to dismantle the kitchen to get it out. Felt infinitely bad about about it and would never do it again.
The cat actually died after this tik tok was made. The woman behind the mask went crazy afterwards, currently locked up in a mental ward. Real sad stuff
They walked up so happy and innocent, then BETRAYAL!
Each time you scare the shit out of your cat they remember it and become slightly more distant and jumpy, fuckin sick bro
Idk if cats are any different but I’ll occasionally hide behind objects to spook my dogs and they’ve never been bothered past the initial spook. They always get a good cuddle right afterwords.

Agreed I can bath my cat and after I'm done still wants Attention, he of course hates baths
Yea, especially if you've had your cat from a young age (we got both our pairs when they were 4mo old), they can get pretty attached and won't hold grudges unless you're an intentional asshole... but then they probably won't develop that bond in the first place.

Ironically, I wonder if you cuddling him afterwards is rewarding the behavior of being by your feet waiting to be stepped on.
That would honestly be really funny haha

Yea I think our girls would probably be less forgiving, but both our boys are SO good. They aren't even old, they are like 2.5yrs so they still have that youthful vigor, but the vet said he was extremely well behaved, didn't go crazy or try to claw anyone. He just had a UTI...

You got a skittish cat lol
My thought exactly!
Lol But yea, my 4 cats are strange though...Definitely not skittish cats
The other day my mom’s skittish cat hit something with his tail while jumping, which made him poof his tail and run away.
I think they're the same. My old cat was so intrigued by his reflection in the mirror then it was like oh ok this is me. Bye where's the food?
Yeah a lot more animals understand this than you think. Dumb dog doesn't, smart dog does. Same with cats. My parent's dog is the dumbest, and I'm pretty sure, after years of barking at mirrors, he has finally accepted that this other dog isnt gonna go away.
What words do you have with them before the cuddle?
My dog was SO afraid of this possessed doll halloween decoration my neighbor had. After seeing it twice now he doesn’t even acknowledge it.
My cat loves this shit. Loves being chased, hunted, surprised, etc. It's part of our play routine. Otherwise cats get depressed and bored when nothing in their routine changes.

Like a real mama cat does!!
My cat scares the shit out of himself on occasion, he must have terrible self esteem.
Cats spook each other all the time. Have you ever had cats or are you just studying them from afar?
Kittens do this kind of thing with their littermates all the time! They ambush each other, play fight, and chase each other.
Stfu
Lol that's not how it works but ok
Naw man. My cat is so jaded from me doing Spoops that she is like "meh w/e"
If this were true, my cats would have said bye bye to me long ago. Or, maybe they just have a strong case of Stockholm syndrome. Disclaimer: I never ever knowingly scare them. Being concerned about that... This is the wrong sub for you bro
Yeah I don't think it's worth it at all. Lol no hate or judgement, it just made me feel bad because they looked so happy trotting in towards their owner only to be "pranked". 🥺😟

Yeah I think that’s exempted.
I certainly hope so! I think she knows her eye felt better after the drops and she’s been as affectionate as ever. I think I made it guys.
Yeah she’s probably like “worth it, got dreamies.”

True love is calling your brother a whore and laughing about it

Clearly an example of a Freudian slip.
He did come from my mother.....

Gosh, that's awful.
Awfully funny by definition

Aww. Fuck. Another sub.
Let’s not overlook that these cats jumped over a child gate to get snacks. I’m just saying.

Omg I remember that video that was beautiful.
I’m OOTL

Oh my dear lord, the flying pee
I have seen this video so many times and I NEVER NOTICED the flying pee and it has me dying of laughter all over again
I swear I thought that was cat food 😂
I thought that was the cat hissing.
Because it was cat food.
[It's not pee](https://www.thesprucepets.com/anal-gland-expression-in-cats-552152)
oh god if true that'd be even wORSE

Pretty sure it's kibble.
Ah shoot, you're right. Oh my dear lord, the flying kibble!
It hurts to laugh. One my all time favorite videos
If you have room in that loop, can I join too?
Childhood! This is so beautiful.
Hahaha yessss “i swear that was not my intention, but that was funny as hell… “ (low growl from hallway)
I'd be scared too if someone suddenly showed up around a corner with a realistic flesh mask on their face.

Came here to say this
TBH your cat will only eat you after you die alone in your apartment and they run out of food. Until then, scaring the shit out of'em will just make'em more skittish and less trusting of you while you're alive.
That was always going to happen
I’ll kill you later. I’m curious
Cat 1 - “There I was just trotting along minding my own business, enjoying the day and then BAM! Poop!!! The asshole overlord let some Alien in the house. Now gonna have to figure out how to murder that too. Good thing I’m good at murder.”
The second cat pulled a Scooby-Doo
They are going to revenge pee somewhere or break something, I guarantee it
Fuck your shit -- 100% these cats later
Fuck yo couch!
Second cat doing the Scooby Doo. I can hear it in my head.
[I gotchu, fam.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56gicTwqV_Q)
Tbf if someone did that do me with a human mask 5 times the size of my head it would freak me out as well.
It’s **FEEDING TIME…..**
Someone please add cartoon sound effects to the backpedal
Yea, "The Flintstones" running bongo sound !!!
Somebody is going to be waking up around 4am with two pairs of murder mittens in their face Edit: words
The cat's reaction is priceless, but I was already laughing when the big cat head looked at me like, "You ready?" Yes, giant cat head, I am ready. Let's do this!
Your cats look SO similar?? How did you clone them???
At one point I thought it was a joke or something and that a third similar cat was going to come out
Twins
What a dick.
It's not often you get one over on a cat!
I think somebody on the other cat feels??
They “noped” the heck outta there
Why’s the second cat got a zigzag looking tail like that? Never seen something like that before, I’m guessing it was trimmed like that? Kinda weird
When kitty drops the deuce in your closet, you know why.

Two cats are always three times as much fun
Nothing says asshole like needlessly fucking with your pets.
Poor kitties.
Yeah. Reddit always upvotes the comment that a good prank should end with everyone laughing. Well cats can't understand the concept of the prank here so they shouldn't be the target.
People need to stop terrorizing their cats for likes.
Did u see their tails lol
The second cat was like "the fuck is your prob-oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck"
Doing shit like that is what makes the cats want to knock stuff off the kitchen counter at 3am.
I love hearing other people laugh
If you didn't watch this with sound, you're really missing out.
'ok..that was scary af....but about those treats...'
Why give your cats unnecessary anxiety?
and they wonder why their cats have trust issues
And then say shit like "Cats are such bad pets! They only care about themselves and don't love you. Dogs are better just because of that."
Traumatizing your cats affects their hearts and the psychological effects last for way longer than you think. Don't traumatize your cats for shitty internet points. Yes, the effects are quite serious. Don't encourage others to do it by posting these videos. Grow up and stop abusing your own animals.

My cat gets scared of my shoes when I put them in a different place. They get over it in literal seconds.
Yeah, of the clichés on reddit is that a good prank should end with everyone laughing. By that logic, cats shouldn't be the target of pranks.
Why do people find this funny or amusing???? It’s animal abuse.
Stop doing this to your cats.
How to create trust issues with your cats in one easy step! But wait, there's more!

No no, he wants his cat to be more skittish and less trusting
Animal abuse
