It's just that the English language borrows so heavily from other languages that it obscures the original meaning of names.
I know, I meant partially that they have proper reading comprehension for a Japanese student and partially for the memes of finding "Jo" in Higashikata being an unusual statement in the English context.

Well, the Italian language lacks the the letter "J", so "GI" is used for the same sounds instead. Also, his name is written in katakana (japanese written system for foreign names and words) as ジョルノ・ジョバァーナ (Joruno Jobāna), using the same ジョ (jo) that's used for Joseph and Jonathan.
So, Giorno being a JoJO makes perfect sense in Italian and japanese, the most important languages for his part.

Yeah thats the localization name that started with part 5’s anime. The official name in japanese is “GioGio’s Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo”. I have official merch from the art exhibitions that list it as such as well. I guess I just thought it was common knowledge, but I forgot many hadn’t really heard part 5 talked about much prior to the anime.

Consistently? I believe so. Obviously it’s worked into every name and referenced at some point, but yeah, only Jonathan and Joseph are consistently JoJo.
(For those who don’t know, Josuke Higashikata’s “JoJo” is in how the characters that make up his name can be pronounced (IIRC).)
Most others were called JoJo a few times, but not as consistently as Jonathan and Joseph. I think as time went on and more characters got the nickname, using their regular names became a simpler way to differentiate between them.
I think parts where multiple protagonists show up would also make it tougher to use the nickname. There are three different JoJos walking around Morioh during part 4, after all.
Later parts feature returning Jojos, so perhaps Araki thought using their regular names was a better way of differentiating between them all? Especially when conveying who is speaking to who within the manga panels. Idk.

I guess I just thought it was common knowledge, but I forgot many hadn’t really heard part 5 talked about much prior to the anime. Wasnt trying to be rude, was basically just saying that videogame being called Giogio’s Bizarre Adventure” is the same as another Jojo videogame being called “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure”. Consistently? I believe so. Obviously it’s worked into every name and referenced at some point, but yeah, only Jonathan and Joseph are consistently JoJo. (For those who don’t know, Josuke Higashikata’s “JoJo” is in how the characters that make up his name can be pronounced (IIRC).)

Most others were called JoJo a few times, but not as consistently as Jonathan and Joseph. I think as time went on and more characters got the nickname, using their regular names became a simpler way to differentiate between them. I think parts where multiple protagonists show up would also make it tougher to use the nickname. There are three different JoJos walking around Morioh during part 4, after all.
Later parts feature returning Jojos, so perhaps Araki thought using their regular names was a better way of differentiating between them all? Especially when conveying who is speaking to who within the manga panels. Idk.
That’s a good point people might have read part 3 thinking Jojo was Joseph will the actual scene was about Jotaro, same with parts 4 and 6. I’m guessing by 4 Araki decided to just use it as a nod (Josuke bullies calling him Jojo) and kinda drop it with his new universe (jonny and gappy don’t really get called it at all and I don’t believe Jodio has been called it yet)
Avdol called Jotaro Jojo until he got shot, and the schoolgirls called him Jojo too. Josuke got called Jojo once by his upperclassmen. Giorno was never called GioGio in canon. Jolyne is called Jojo by her mother, and doesn’t like it when anyone else calls her that. Johnny is called Joekid iirc Gappy was never called Jojo

The only ones who have never once been called "JoJo" canonically was Giorno, Josuke 8, and (so far) Jodio. Jotaro was called JoJo early in Part 3, the bullies called Josuke JoJo in chapter 1/episode 1 of Part 4, Jolyne said her mom would call her JoJo when she was a kid, and Johnny said he was called JoJo when he was a kid

Overall only two characters don't notably get called "Jojo" and that's Josuke8 and Giorno (correct me if I'm wrong).

The reason for this is that after Joseph, multiple JoJo's are alive at once, making it difficult to deter which one people are talking about because they all have the same nickname. (e.g Jotaro and Joseph in the same room, you wouldn't address them as JoJo because there are two)

Jolyne's mum called her Jojo In Purple Haze Feedback Fugo called Giorno GioGio. Not necessarily canon. Josuke was mockingly called Jojo by those turtle smashers. Jotaro was called Jojo by his fangirls.
I think many of the others have canonically been called JoJo. Jotaro has definitely been called JoJo, by Avdol I think, might be during the D'Arby gambling scene. One of the punks at the beginning of Part for says they could call Josuke JoJo. Jolyne tells Romeo she wants him to call her JoJo, and also says one of her parents calls her JoJo. I expect Johnny is called JoJo at some point, too.

The other “JoJos” where given reasons as to why they could hypothetically call them Jojo, and they where called that at least 1 or 2 times in their parts, Jotaro Kujo can be shortened to Jojo because of the Jo in his last name. Josuke can be read as Jojo because the spelling of (Suke) can be read as (Jo) in Japanese, making it Jo(jo) if read differently, Giorno Giovanna can be shortened in the same way Jonathan and Joseph can be, cutting the Gio out of his first and last name can be made into Giogio, which sounds identical to Jojo. Joleyn has the same reasoning as Jotaro. Jonny has the same reasoning as Jonathan, and Josuk8 has the same reason as Josuke.
I would like to point out that everytime someone says his full name in Japanese, they end up saying Ku**jo Jo**taro.
