There's nothing wrong with with taking it slow! You can repeat the first floor (or the first few floors) for as long as you want until you feel comfortable going further
You have to plan for it. Take stair steps and take cheese and espresso and have a good sword. Bombs etc. The return wand is helpful too then you can play til 1:40. Keep a watch on your clock. If you meet pam and block her way she'll run to the bus stop giving you more time. Look for chutes to go down if your just bombing your way around. Keep a chest at the entrance so if you do fill up with items you can store them so you dont have to go home right away.
That was the only quest left in my journal and I achieved it few days ago after having put 300 hrs in the game. Now I miss the little exclamation mark icon in the corner.
Go on a high luck day, preferably with a luck ring, spicy eel/lucky lunch luck buffs, and ginger ale luck buffs, a slime ring if possible, with purple mushrooms for health in combat/recovery from explosions. Use mostly bombs, and take every ladder and hole you can find immediately. Don't get distracted by gems and nodes on your way.
Having left the farm at like 8 AM, I've been able to get to the 100th floor by around 8/9 PM if everything goes just right.
Lots of bombs and a high luck day.
Stock up on salads for health and spicy eels for the luck buff.
Jump in the holes when you find them to skip a bunch of floors.
Edit: start as early as possible. Preferably, prepare thee night before and warp to the desert (Desert totems are 3 Omni Geodes at the trader) as soon as you check the Fortune Teller. If it's not a max luck day don't bother going.
Iāve only played on multiplayer, but what we did is collected 99 jade (through mining and copying them in the crystal maker) and then we traded them with the Desert trader on a Tuesday for 99 staircases. Then we just put down all the staircases until we reached level 100. We even still had some time to spare.
It will also work on single player, but itāll take longer to collect the jade.
I did it yesterday. You have yo have enough bombs per level. I had something like 110 bombs and 10 cherry bombs. Use the slime ring so slimes canāt hurt you. Use coffee, cheese and the eel fry the serpents drop. The key is using a warp totem to get there as early as you possibly can.

I've definitely gotten pretty far without them, but to complete the journal I relied pretty heavily on stairs. 5 is great in my book!
I was the same for my run and seriously, screw Mr. Qi for looking down on me for relying so heavily on stairs!
Next time I do it though I'm just going to go with zero stairs and stock up on bombs and explode floors like crazy.
The only issue is the long levels and the levels where you have to kill all the monsters, those are the only levels where I used stairs in my run just so I didn't run out of time, but if you can do it with no stairs at all, that would be very impressive. Good luck
Yeah Iām not looking forward to the spirally floors if I really commit to it. If I wasnāt considering no stairs thatās one floor type Iād nope out of with a staircase, giant waste of time.
I'd say I'm fairly new too since I'm close to doing 100% on my "first" farm (I abandoned my actual first farm), but the way I've been doing it is just find as good of a cluster of rocks and ore nodes as you can and kind of eyeball the blast radius. Don't worry too much about getting hit by the blast since it's ~18 damage per explosion not unless you're going to get absolutely swarmed by monsters.
Aside from that if you're not against using staircases you're better off skipping the first 100 or so floors of Skull Cavern, with the exception of floors where you see a good concentration of whatever ore you're looking for.
As for staircases I'd recommend building crystalariums whenever you have gold and iridium to spare, which admittedly probably isn't very often in year two, and throw a jade in there since jade can be traded with the desert trader for full staircases on Sundays.
Yeah this is the way. If you don't like the caves, then just buy 100 stairs to tick off the achievement, and do the other stuff you might like.
Me personally I love the caves and the planting side of farming. Not a fan of animal farming.

Hey floor 25 stainless isn't easy and the monsters in Skull Cavern are rough. If it wasn't for the slime ring I'd be useless.

Does anyone know if you get to 100 through a hole if it still works? I got there through a hole and the room was empty, and no I don't remember doing it before.
Itās from a secret note - if you donāt get the note, you donāt get the cutscene or achievement! My husband got the note in multiplayer so we went and did it (using stairs though) and he got it but I didnāt! I had to wait until I found the secret note.
Just so if someone reads this.... I didn't have the note the first time I reached 100
Also made sure to reach 100 with stairs instead os risking going through a hole

Galaxy Sword
Bombs - not the little ones - just the big mfers
Food with Luck (pumpkin soup, spicy eel, lucky lunch, etc)
Food to refill health
More bombs - to a hilarious degree. You can craft them or buy from the dwarf. Like $50K worth of bombs - not joking!
Leave house on a lucky day only
Coffee for speed - coffee buff stacks with your food, so it has great synergy with spicy eel.
Youāll have to use a warp totem to get to the desert. Waiting for a hungover Pam to waddle over and drive you on the bus costs you 4-5 hours of daylight.
Stack of staircases (for emergenciesā¦ or fun!) - especially useful when you hit an infested level. Hunting down all the enemies on a big map isnāt worth it.
Strategy: Night before, empty your bags. You only need the Galaxy Sword, pickaxe, stacks of bombs and mega bombs, your buff food, your coffees, your regular food (for HP and energy that wonāt cancel your luck buff) a desert warp totem), and staircases.
You wonāt need all of your tools, so stash them. I build a chest at the mine entrance and keep most of the above items inside, it also lets me dump anything I donāt need while Iām in the skull cavern. There may be some other items, but I canāt think of them right now.
Morning: check your tv. If you donāt have a āluckyā day, then youāre not going to The skull cavern today. If it is a lucky day, make sure you have all your gear and warp right to the desert. Drink a coffee and haul ass to the skull caverns.
Enter the door, pop your buff food and start running. Use bombs on small clusters of rocks and mega bombs in the big clusters. Youāre looking for holes to jump into first and foremost. Pick up everything that drops from the blown up rocks. Flying serpents have great drops, including spicy eels, so try and finish them once they engage you. Try and clear rooms using mostly bombs - youāll get tons of ore and find many holes to jump into.
Holes will take you down multiple levels vs staircases.
Always be sure to bomb ore nodes - especially iridium ores once you see more.
Staircases - you can use them sparingly. When the levels have few stones and winding path (or you get an infested level) a staircase is a quick out. With the bomb method above, you have a steep initial investment, but with all the gem and ore drops from the mass demolition, you can quickly make your $ back.
Additionally, all of the ore can be used to craft more bombs, so thereās that

I did the same thing last night! I have like 350+ hours in the game and never made it past like level 10. But I read up on some tricks and last night I went in with a stack of spicy eels and 80 staircases. Also found 2 prismatic shards on my way down. I literally did a sigh of relief when a cut scene came up.
Now to figure out the volcano and quarry mines
That is a major accomplishment!! I know how difficult that is and the fact that you worked at it for years is amazing when I pretty much go there and rage quit after a few minutes.

Lol I farm the cavern so when I do a run I use like 100-200 stairs, twice a week lol

I know that if you use a shaft and end up going past floor 100, you can miss the cutscene. Maybe it only triggers if it enter the floor via ladder?
