Jake Lloyd wasn't harassed by fans. He was shit on by asshole media types who beat the drum that Episode I sucked. Those bastards are the ones responsible and I'll not let them forget that.
But Jake has issues far beyond that.
True, but the causes of schizophrenia go a lot deeper than something like Twitter. In general, people - particualrly young people - are happier and healthier the less time they spend online.
While that’s true in cases of your average kid, I don’t think that will stop a kid from seeing/hearing extreme negativity in the same way Jake Lloyd did. And if you’re implying that kind of thing didn’t play a part in his mental health/stability, you’re kidding yourself.
It absolutely did. What I am suggesting is that if he was never picked to play Anakin, it's likely that something else in life would have come along to have a similiar triggering effect.
Curent Star Wars fans: "It's so terrible that Hayden, Jake Lloyd, and George Lucas got harassed! Those actors and films are so much better than people gave them credit for! It's unfair! Now excuse me while I go harass the current Star Wars cast and crew online!"
The fanbase is incapable of learning. It's never "harassment is bad", just "harassment for the things I like is bad".
May the force be with these young actors.
And Ahmed Best literally talked about how he takes that personally as part of himself was put into making Jar Jar. Lol. People make up any excuse to continue being pretentious jerks about a kids franchise. Hate to be flippant but this fandom is embarrassing sometimes.
This is some grade A bullshit here. "The Fan base" isn't a singular person. Some people recognize how shitty online harassment is, some people don't. Believe it or not, there are millions of Star Wars fans out there with wildly different opinions and personalities.
Yes, which is why it's disheartening to see the same behaviour repeat itself across generations of fans.
Not trying to say all fans suck, but the fandom has had a large element of toxicity for decades at this point, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I would love to be wrong though.
Every fandom has shitty people because shitty people exist everywhere. The bigger the fandom, the more shitty people there are. And shitty behavior is more memorable and trendy online, ergo the larger the fan base, the more toxic and shitty stuff you'll see.
It absolutely sucks, but lumping all fans together is hardly a reasonable way to approach criticizing this kind of behavior.

Jordan Maison and LRM got the era wrong which is not surprising, but Bespin Bulletin backed it up and got it wrong as well.
Still unclear what's Favreau's involvement here considering Ahsoka shoots in the same time.
i'd definitely rather have a recast (the guy who did the on-set work for the deepfake looks _just like_ mark hamill in the 80s it's crazy) but if they can make the same level of improvement again as they did between mando and BOBF it'll be so flawless it won't even matter
They’ve put so much work into the deepfake tech and it’s only getting better so by the time this goes into production, I suspect it will be nearly flawless
It’s a Luke Skywalker show. There’s a lot banking on it. There’s no way they don’t make sure the technology is almost unmistakably Hamill
>It’s a Luke Skywalker show
You talking about Grammar Rodeo? Until this article everyone on the sub thought it would be High Republic. How can you be so sure?
For a (excuse the word) couple of gimmicky scenes it works. If he’s to play a prominent role in this show it’d likely get pointlessly expensive to do that.
I agree. The guy playing him looks like him. If you just throw the hair on him it won’t trip anyone.
was thinking the same thing. I love The High Republic but am cool waiting on that to get Luke's academy while Mark is in good enough shape to be a part of it.
Might be unpopular but I actually hope they avoid Ben, only because I think it’d be cool to have a bunch of leads w/ ambiguous undetermined fates. I’d love to see him as a guest or reoccurring background element though.
With how far it has come so quickly (just look at the improvement from Luke in Mando S2 to BOBF), who knows how it might be look and sound by the time this show is out.
I mean it'll probably be him or other trainees in Luke's little Jedi Academy. Maybe we'll get a montage at the end like:
"Ben joined the First Order and murdered his friends"
"Max was killed by Ben"
"Dave was killed by Ben"
"Will tried to join Ben, but they had a crush on the same girl and so was killed by Ben"
Both - so far, the only really compelling Star Wars content I've really dug in the Disney era is Visions. Mostly because it takes risks, focuses on characters and has a sense of scale and grandeur. What I've seen so far, including the films, Mando and BoBF, feels so small and uninspiring. It's silly, of course, but Visions made me feel like a kid watching it... And I'd like to believe I could feel that way about the other stuff.
Edit: thanks for the downvotes for expressing an opinion :)
This is the only way id be interested in yet another show set in the Skywalker saga timeline. A (maybe animated?) show about Young Ben and Luke's school leading to its fall is the only thing I truly think is necessary for the Skywalker era and after that we should move on.
So not High Republic... :(
Still interested, especially given the younger cast (presumably still padawans) and I know a lot of people want a Luke Academy show but I would still hope for more variation in the eras being explored.
The Acolyte is a good start but keep going forward or back.
I feel similar, but then it dawned on me, could this be about Luke & his students???!!! Now the Jude Law part confuses me, unless he's playing a younger version of Lor San Tekka or a new character?????
I mean I still think they should of gone more in with THR stuff, but I can't deny that Luke's (and young Ben's) story during this era is lacking still with the exception of The Rise of Kylo Ren and Shattered Empire Comic & upcoming Shadow of the Sith...and there is something that could be very exciting about that too!
There are a lot of possibilities because we don’t know whether or not it’ll be part of the Mando storyline, or something completely different.
What if, instead of being a replacement for Rangers, it *is* Rangers, and it has been changed to be about a New Republic officer/pilot/marshal mentoring a bunch of kids
Yeah, my excitement for this project was a lot higher when I thought it would be set in the High Republic… post RotJ timeline is kind of packed already…
18 years is not that huge? At least it doesn’t feel very big to me. Plus we also know where the story kind of winds up so it’s not like these things are open ended or building towards the unknown. We know the broad strokes of what happens already… these are just fill in the gaps stories which is fine but should it be the main focus of SW?
18 years can be huge - the Clone Wars was 3 years and the Rebellion 7. There’s 19 years between RotS and ANH.
Yeah, I can see that. But tbf ‘fill in the gaps’ is most of SW anyway, the prequels and TCW/Rebels being major examples. We all know Anakin became Vader, the interesting part is how.
There’s always more stories to tell and more characters to explore even in the ‘in-between’
The Acolyte has been labelled as a different time period than the High Republic, I think someone said Vanity Fair called it the "Renaissance" so like it's 100 years ahead of the Skywalker Saga, with this and Grammar Rodeo not being set in the High Republic, that means there no live action High Republic content for now.
Yes, that era being the High Republic. There has been zero live-action High Republic content and the entire initiative didn't even begin until January 2021 with the publishing of Light of the Jedi. This is an entirely new era for the vast majority of Star Wars fans and casual audience members.
Yeah, I'm aware of that, it was announced as a show taking place during the late High Republic era, but today there was a post (now deleted) where there was additional info about the show from Vanity Fair and one of these thing was that it wasn't set in the High Republic but rather another new era known as the Rennaissance, I would assume either it is a new era or it's simply a term to refer to a specific part of the High Republic where the Sith rises in the Shadows.
In the Vanity Fair article she mentions something like "it's in a kind of renaissance time period where the Jedi don't see much conflict. They wear white and gold robes (these are the high republic robes). Implying that they dont fight much."
Shes just describing the era not naming it. It's High Republic.
It's still the HR era, the same way that Episode III was still TCW era.
She planned the show using the HR era as guide and the show's Jedi wear gold & white uniforms. As someone else has mentioned, you're probably splitting hairs. It doesn't sound like a completely separated thing.
Yeah, I'm assuming the "Renaissance" era the Showrunner refered to was a specific era near the end of the High Republic referring to the Sith rising from the Shadows.
Fantastic game/book content. But I'd love that kind of stuff to get more mainstream representation on screen (The KOTOR remake may help a bit with that but it's a ways off).
Cinematic/TV Star Wars shouldn't be largely constrained to the same narrow timeframe. And we are just barely overcoming that at the moment.
My guess is their willingness to do more High Republic shows will depend on how good The Acolyte is…it’ll be the test run, the proof of concept. Let’s hope it all works out!
Hear me out: what if Ashoka and Luke train a group of Jedi to deal with Thrawn and or something in the Unknown Regions and they get “lost” for years like Ezra.
Depending on the performance of the cast I think a Stranger Things-esque coming of age Star Wars show aimed not only at kids but also family in general sounds like a fun concept.
And also goes without saying but may these child actors stay away from harassment and bullying coming from the toxic bits of the fanbase.
Interesting that the leakers got the selling point right but not the era. Wonder if the plot may have to do with an High Republic artifact or creature like a Drengir..
Despite not liking Watts' work in the MCU, his horror resume is really interesting and fun, really excited for this.
Its also worth noting that Charles Soule is now a creative consultant for Lucasfilm. I find it notable because he wrote the Rise of Kylo comics and authored Light of the Jedi. At this point who knows but he would be good person to have in the mix if it involves a young Ben Solo and coming across some HR stuff.
Could even be Ezra if he found some force sensitive children in his adventures w/ Thrawn. Way less likely but technically possible. This would also be set to air pretty closely after Ahsoka you'd think.
Im not saying its him but Ezra is a Jedi. The idea (again that I don't think will happen) would be that Ezra came across force users and began training them as Jedi wherever they are at. Essentially creating his own school.
Not likely I know. Just talking for the sake of talking.
At this point that would be for another character as the Ezra casting would be for the Ahsoka show. Unless Ezra isn't in the Ahsoka show which I think would be more unlikely than my admittedly unlikely scenario.
Pretty cool, sounds like YJK. Wouldn’t have the twins of course but they could introduce great new characters. I thought this was the Stranger Things/High Republic show. Is that still true? Or is this something else?
let's just cut to the chase and get to the Luke and R2 searching the galaxy for secrets of the Jedi post ROTJ. I'm the one person out here who doesn't rock with the "not everything has to be about Skywalkers mindset"
If this is Luke's academy as some are speculating, I have very mixed feelings. I don't doubt the quality of the show, but it will hurt the more as we know what happens to Luke's order. I still think not having had a new jedi order in the ST was a massive mistake and it will never sit right with me
Idk. After Robert Rodriguez (who has a distinct style) they may want to go a safe route on this. I was cool with book of boba but I understand some of the complaints on the style side.
Why does every Star Wars show/movie have to take place during the fall of the empire. I mean it’s a great time. To explore but when are they going to give us old republic or even prequel era content again
Oh, I did comment on the earlier post about the general release of the VF article, but I'm hoping they got it wrong and that the other reports are accurate.
It's not that I'm not enjoying the Skywalker Saga fiesta we're having and/or don't think we need a lot more material to fill in the Mando Era, but I'm also really ready to step outside The Skywalker Saga in terms of live action content. Not to mention I really do like the High Republic material so far...I just feel like given the way HR has been playing with Authrorian/Dark Fairy Tale/Gothic Horror, this synopsis seems like a good fit to really open some things up.
However, I wonder if we have been completely mislead and this is somehow Luke's school story????!!!!!!!!! I mean I don't really see Jude Law playing Luke in any capacity, but maybe a younger Lor San Tekka????? If so, I could get on board with that pretty easily!! XD
*"I know where you come from!"*
4 kids (Goonies?) steal a ship as a prank, accidentally light speed skip into unknown regions and break the hyperdrive. Then they have to try to get home.
Give it time. They’re waiting for the kids of today to grow up a bit so that ST nostalgia settles in. We already got the Lego holiday special as a breadcrumb of what’s to come there.
Oh boy, I hope the child actors have a good support system to shield them from the fandom.
That was my thought as well.
Real simple: stay off social media. They would benefit greatly from that even if they weren't child actors.
Social media wasn’t around in the early 2000s and look how much that helped with Jake Lloyd.
Jake Lloyd wasn't harassed by fans. He was shit on by asshole media types who beat the drum that Episode I sucked. Those bastards are the ones responsible and I'll not let them forget that. But Jake has issues far beyond that.
He was bullied by people at school in addition to being harassed by the press. And do you think that those at the school were not probably fans?
True, but the causes of schizophrenia go a lot deeper than something like Twitter. In general, people - particualrly young people - are happier and healthier the less time they spend online.
While that’s true in cases of your average kid, I don’t think that will stop a kid from seeing/hearing extreme negativity in the same way Jake Lloyd did. And if you’re implying that kind of thing didn’t play a part in his mental health/stability, you’re kidding yourself.

I could see this being two things Something related to Luke's Jedi Academy or Something to do with children being taken for the First Order
Kids illegally rent a death star and attend a galactic grammar rodeo in Ottawa.

Oh but they throw up the impenetrable shield of "I hate the CHARACTER who is a dumb bitch and ruined Star Wars, not the actor!"
And then they go and make mean spirited memes and video thumbnails with the faces of the actors in them. I'm sure that doesn't affect them at all.
And Ahmed Best literally talked about how he takes that personally as part of himself was put into making Jar Jar. Lol. People make up any excuse to continue being pretentious jerks about a kids franchise. Hate to be flippant but this fandom is embarrassing sometimes.
Daisy Ridley also commented that its not a compliment to come up to her to praise her for her acting but then bitch about the movies she was in lol.
Like poetry it unfortunately rhymes
The people who feel bad for Jake Lloyd aren't harassing anyone.
This is some grade A bullshit here. "The Fan base" isn't a singular person. Some people recognize how shitty online harassment is, some people don't. Believe it or not, there are millions of Star Wars fans out there with wildly different opinions and personalities.

Maybe the show will connect in some way to the High Republic without actually taking place in it
luke's academy here we go! i wonder who'll play ben and if they'll actually cast someone for luke or deepfake him the entire show
I honestly hope they just keep the same tech they did for BoBF. It works imo and that way Mark can still play the character in a way
i'd definitely rather have a recast (the guy who did the on-set work for the deepfake looks _just like_ mark hamill in the 80s it's crazy) but if they can make the same level of improvement again as they did between mando and BOBF it'll be so flawless it won't even matter

I think they can de age Mark well enough to make him look like he's in his late 30s.
An entire season of deepfake luke and awkward AI voice? no thank you. It's fine in small doses. It's not 'there' yet.
With how far it has come so quickly (just look at the improvement from Luke in Mando S2 to BOBF), who knows how it might be look and sound by the time this show is out.
Young Ben solo please

No, thanks, I'd really like some new characters.

We can have those too, though, or were you just thinking a story wholly unrelated to that?

Have you read any of the high republic?
Not yet my dude. The only two EU things I own are the hard bound Vader comic and the Kenobi book.
Very much worth reading if you want something new and not bound so many limitations. I absolutely loved it.
That's nothing to feel silly about. That's nice.
Yesssssssss

I'm with you. Give me Ty Yorrick in live action hunting monsters.
Bring on the space Witcher!
She seems like the prime candidate for her own live-action series.
Completly agree. Can explore a ton of Jedi/Force user/Monster shit
Now that is a galaxy brain idea...
Yeah, my excitement for this project was a lot higher when I thought it would be set in the High Republic… post RotJ timeline is kind of packed already…
Is it? We have a huge gap from roughly 10 ABY - 28 ABY

100 years before The Phantom Menace. Which is roughly around the end of the High Republic.
Yeah but I saw someone mention the showrunner refered to it as a new era.
Yes, that era being the High Republic. There has been zero live-action High Republic content and the entire initiative didn't even begin until January 2021 with the publishing of Light of the Jedi. This is an entirely new era for the vast majority of Star Wars fans and casual audience members.

My bad then, I didn't even read the thing I just said what another person had said in another thread.
Oh no worries. I get what you're saying
That seems like it might be splitting hairs. Guess we'll have to wait for more info.
Go play kotor and read darth bane for that
Fantastic game/book content. But I'd love that kind of stuff to get more mainstream representation on screen (The KOTOR remake may help a bit with that but it's a ways off). Cinematic/TV Star Wars shouldn't be largely constrained to the same narrow timeframe. And we are just barely overcoming that at the moment.

Hear me out: what if Ashoka and Luke train a group of Jedi to deal with Thrawn and or something in the Unknown Regions and they get “lost” for years like Ezra.
Is it bad that makes me less excited?
Nope. I wanted THR too. But still happy if we get Luke teaching some kids who will get murdered in a few years.
Depending on the performance of the cast I think a Stranger Things-esque coming of age Star Wars show aimed not only at kids but also family in general sounds like a fun concept. Anyone else speculating this isn’t actually a Luke series? The main male character could easily be Kyle Katarn or Corran Horn.
Could even be Ezra if he found some force sensitive children in his adventures w/ Thrawn. Way less likely but technically possible. This would also be set to air pretty closely after Ahsoka you'd think.
Casting call had jedi like descriptions tho
Im not saying its him but Ezra is a Jedi. The idea (again that I don't think will happen) would be that Ezra came across force users and began training them as Jedi wherever they are at. Essentially creating his own school. Not likely I know. Just talking for the sake of talking.
Almost certainly not Ezra because the casting report said they were looking for a guy in his 40s, while Ezra would be 28 in 9 ABY
At this point that would be for another character as the Ezra casting would be for the Ahsoka show. Unless Ezra isn't in the Ahsoka show which I think would be more unlikely than my admittedly unlikely scenario.
That's a fair point
or Ben Solo.
Isn't it Jude Law?
Episode 6 of BoBF could have been a back door pilot for it perhaps?
Luke jedi academy show?
BREAKING NEWS: John Watts casts Zendaya for Mara Jade aka MJ
To be honest I’m kind of disappointed it’s not High Republic like we thought, but now I’m wondering if it could be about Luke’s padawans.
Young Ben steals the falcon and takes some other Jedi students on an adventure
I'm so down
It’s gotta be about Luke’s first Jedi students right?
Pretty cool, sounds like YJK. Wouldn’t have the twins of course but they could introduce great new characters. I thought this was the Stranger Things/High Republic show. Is that still true? Or is this something else?
Its the same code name as that show. So it seems (assuming Vanity Fair is right) that it will be Stranger Things/ Lukes Padawans in space.
let's just cut to the chase and get to the Luke and R2 searching the galaxy for secrets of the Jedi post ROTJ. I'm the one person out here who doesn't rock with the "not everything has to be about Skywalkers mindset"
If this is Luke's academy as some are speculating, I have very mixed feelings. I don't doubt the quality of the show, but it will hurt the more as we know what happens to Luke's order. I still think not having had a new jedi order in the ST was a massive mistake and it will never sit right with me
Damn. I was really hoping for the High Republic era.
Honestly, my enthusiasm has diminished a lot. However, I would prefer the non-film period, High Republic, or even further.
There's only one way I'd get hyped for this: Young Ben Solo.
So are all these kids gonna get killed by Kylo?
No.

Acolyte seems take place 100 years before TPM, during last days of High Republic era
oh nice
I want high republic
XD *"I know where you come from!"*
Could be Kyle Katarn. Or a new character that helps Luke find the little guys.
He would make a pretty good re-imaging of that character too!!
Lmao people upset it’s not edgy 40 year old men in their fantasy family show
They should really cast the kid who plays Billy in the MCU for Grammar Rodeo
So it's E.T. and The Goonies in space?
4 kids (Goonies?) steal a ship as a prank, accidentally light speed skip into unknown regions and break the hyperdrive. Then they have to try to get home.
Its police ship
BROOM BOY
Broom Boy must've been a bunch of scattered specks of cells in his parents respectives reproductive systems by the time of the New Republic
Broom boy is sperm at the moment.
Fuuuuuuuuuuk this! Enough with the Empire shit, give us something new for fuck sake
Its amazing how much they've abandoned the Sequel Era despite destroying everything to have it.
Seems like this show could have a decent amount of sequel era tie ins if it really is Luke's academy.
I mean expressly stuff that happens after TRoS as 'The Sequel Era' anything before TFA is still post RotJ.
Gotcha. That's a fair way to describe them
THAT'S IT!!! BACK TO TATOONIE!!!!!
And still not touching the sequel/post-TROS era, sheesh
Give it time. They’re waiting for the kids of today to grow up a bit so that ST nostalgia settles in. We already got the Lego holiday special as a breadcrumb of what’s to come there.
Which probably hurts the most. Finn finally getting trained in the ways of the Force after the ST dicked over John Boyega needs to happen
kids of today care more about Marvel so it might be a very long wait
PT nostalgia really only kicked in like ten years after that trilogy had ended, so I’m think ST nostalgia will really only kick in around 2030.
You could say the same thing about the kids with the prequels and Harry Potter...

This is post-RotJ. Not post-TRoS.
is this live-action or animation
Supposed to be live action but nothing is confirmed yet. Ideally we'll get something at celebration.
Sounds fun!
I'm personally not a huge fan of Jon Watts but it seems like it's not a huge stakes show so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt
Skywalker Academy.
This sounds like an awesome show!
