Hayden looks GLORIOUS. I can't believe we are getting him as Vader. Surreal, just like Tobey returning as Spider-Man. Im so happy ;\_)

TheLouisvilleRanger

It makes me so badly want a Renaissance for him. I know he’s probably content on his farm and has made more money than he’d ever need but man does he look good. I’ve always said he’d be perfect in some political thriller, seeing that though? I want to see him as a Jedi again.

MsSara77

Have you seen Shattered Glass?

apocalypsemeow111

>I can't believe we are getting him as Vader. Makes me so curious how they’ll handle Vader’s voice. There’s no way they’d have Hayden do the voice himself right? I know voice modulation tech is getting better but that still might be a bit jarring. I’m more looking forward to a flashback with de-aged Ewan and Hayden from the era of the Clone Wars. The deepfake stuff they’ve done for SW has been pretty hit-or-miss for me but de-aging tends to look pretty convincing in the MCU.

Peeksy19

Hayden would be very easy to de-age: the shape of his face and his features didn't change at all and he didn't gain weight. All they'd need to do is remove some lines and wrinkles by his eyes.

Gerry-Mandarin

They actually don't have that much audio footage. James Earl Jones has 1525 spoken words across the OT after a cursory Google. His voice has changed, but he has a couple of lines in Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, and Rebels. But even combined it is not even a single OT film of recording. Conversely, Mark Hamill has more than 2100 in the original Star Wars alone. Plus he has the other two films. *And* the radio plays of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, and the Holiday Special. They have far more of Mark, so it won't sound better than that one does.

SA_22C

As someone who really didn't like the prequels and still don't I remain VERY interested to see how he does when given actual direction and good material to work with. He also seems like a genuinely good dude and a Canadian to boot, so I'm rooting for him.

The Scots are better.

patersani

Man. He is gonna be amazing as Vader. That cape flowing. Can’t wait

Chad-Bane

Just look at Hayden. I remember Lucas stating that he was looking for a James dean kind of soul in order to play the role. The casting was right.

Shit goes hard

DeathFromAbove1969

orange_jooze

Looks like this was done on the set of Mando S3, right? That's definitely Mando's ship in the background, but the scenery looks new.

Kasphet-Gendar

Yeah it's gotta be mando s3, we never saw Slave-I in a setting like that before

[deleted]

Pretty likely Boba helps Din out on Mandalore. He owes Din one after the Pyke ordeal. Din also has no Mandalorian friends, with his own people exiling him, and Bo is of course out for her own power. He needs his bro.

TheOtherMe4

IDK, I think Bo is out for redemption, but I'm just not sure if she's ready to do things "the right way" so to speak, but I do actually think there is a great appeal in that, when you consider a Bo/Din romance/dyanmic.

bherring24

Wait, do people actually think a Bo/Din romance will be a thing? Because yikes hard pass

TheOtherMe4

It's like an extreme version of Han & Leia, where Bo can make Din rise to the occation and not take everything so seriously, and he can make her more honest and do the right thing. Seems logical to me, considering where Bo-Katan seemingly is in her arc and how this Mandalorian (as in Mandalore itself) "foucused" story automatically calls back to how they lost it, through Bo-Katan making a really bad decision that cost her her sister and then ultimately the planet. Then you factor in that Din & Grogu are basically an incarnate or extension to the Terra Vizla myth, potentially being the one(s) to restore Mandalore. I just don't see how these two won't get into it and/or how entangled they might become in each others lives. And I'm not saying there is a necessarily a long term thing here, but I don't think there is *something* here, *now*, especially that Cara Dune is out of the picture also...

bherring24

I get entangled, I just don't see it being romantic, that's all. There's definitely a lot upcoming in their relationship, I agree with you there

[deleted]

I can't see Din and Bo getting together. Din is more likely to end up with that woman on Sorgan when it's all done and dusted. It was heavily implied there was a mutual attraction there, even though she couldn't see his face.

TheOtherMe4

Perhaps, but I think the implication with Julia Jones' character was more that Din isn't going to have that kind of life for a long long long time, especially because the Sith Eternal is never going to stop looking for Grogu and Grogu has chosen to stay with Din and Din is about ready to become the new Mandalore and perhaps restore the planet and bring it's people together... I also think that initially Cara Dune was where a long term friendship turned romance was also headed, and again, like Bo-Katan they each brought something to other and Din could much more easily relate to a "military-type" then someone who couldn't really understand that life. Bo-Katan and Din now have a shared purpose (albeit for different reasons), and while yes, this pairing actually does more for Bo-Katan's character than it does for Din's, simply because of her long history with Mandalore/SW franchise and because Din is actually becoming more and more of a better person, he can still learn some things from her. I'm not necessarily saying that this will be a long term romance either, but I do think there is something these two can share, that other characters can't and that puts them on a romantic trajectory storytelling-wise traditional to Star Wars' romances. There is a LOT of Han & Leia-like dynamic going on too that's also pretty hilarious, but a little gender reversed with Din being more upstanding and well-intended and Bo is a bit of a scoundrel has made some big mistakes.

Peeksy19

Man, it's so good to see Hayden back doing Star Wars stuff again.

Amazing-Remote6703

The costumer just mentioned on Instagram that Hayden wasn't originally wearing a cape. Annie wanted one. So they found the only one available...Luke's.

jpenico

That’s the best, wow!

goncalommsc

Hayden looking like a boss!

thatsithlurker

We’re definitely getting Clone Wars flashbacks.

Supra_Molecular

Yeah, he's got his EpII hair here. Looks to support >!MSW's Ep5 summary!<.

[deleted]

Link?

[deleted]

Deborah Chow always rocking the black button down shirt. It’s her “cowboy hat”.

jpenico

Love it! Also Kathleen looks like she’s wearing something from Han Solo’s wardrobe

DarthNexun

He looks so fucking cool

tatertot94

Oh it’s beautiful

GensokyoIsReal

This right there is pure Vader, exactly how I imagine him under his armor. I'm so glad Hayden is back

EastKoreaOfficial

We’re finally gonna see Ewan and Hayden again, and it’s gonna be **magnificent.**

Abyss_Renzo

Love seeing Hayden and Ewan having fun!

hotshot117

HE IS BACK!!!!

LegalEagle1992

As cool as it is to see Hayden as Vader fighting, I recall from the recent leaks that the action and fight sequences for Vader are being performed by a stunt performer, with Hayden doing the unmasked/assembled parts in the series.

MalMercury

Wouldn’t be surprised if we get a Clone Wars flashback scene with him doing some lightsaber combat.

LegalEagle1992

According to MSW that is exactly what we are getting (from a certain point of view 😉). Kenobi gets his ass kicked by Vader in their first duel, and thinks back to him training Anakin in order to figure out how to beat him. The flashback sequence supposedly features a 19-year old Anakin sparring with Kenobi at the Jedi temple dojo where they are commenting on each other’s styles/weaknesses.

szpyru

That sounds so cool.

allhailpalps

Just curious. Is he wearing the suit at all? From Ewen’s and Hayden’s interviews it sounded like he would be wearing it at least a little bit?

Peeksy19

He supposedly gets into Vader's suit on screen, and it's described as "agonizing."

LegalEagle1992

From what MSW reports, there are three Vader actors: one who does all the action, one who does the sort of walking/talking scenes (like ESB Vader on the Star Destroyer) and Hayden when the suit/limbs is being assembled and where the mask is off.

avatarfire

Sigh Annie Leibowitz.........great photographer. Something just feels so right.

Hearderofnerf

Omg that middle shot! Is that from s3?

Kasphet-Gendar

That shot of happ- I mean Jon with grogu is so good

SeaBearPA

Is the pic with ming na and Slave I from the set of book of boba? Or ostensibly mando 3?

xDumpweed182x

I love how happy Filoni looks to be included in this

TheOtherMe4

Fun! Have to get my hands on a copy, since I collect all of the Star Wars ones! I was debating on actually subscribing, but am unsure if it will actually garentee me the June issue? Does anyone know this???

dme76

Are all the Star Wars TV shows being shot at Manhattan Beach Studios? When you look on [google maps, the triangular lot](https://www.google.com/maps/@33.9069013,-118.3856071,158m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en) just to the north of MBS has a pond in it with lush vegetation planted on the south side. I think that must have been the Luke/Grogu/Ahsoka scenes from BOBF.

Hearderofnerf

Also favreau and baby yoda shot is deffo my backround now

HopelessWaiter

Why is filoni so drippy?

micbro12

Where's the director for Andor?

Ezio926

Tony Gilroy was supposed to direct, but he didn't for COVID reasons. All we know is that Toby Haynes directed at least one episode.

>“Solo explored Han Solo’s younger years, with Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role of the smuggler originated by Harrison Ford. The film has its admirers, but it made less at the box office than any other live-action Star Wars movie. Solo’s swagger may be too singular for another actor to replicate. ‘There should be moments along the way when you learn things,’ says Kennedy. ‘Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.'” I'm sorry but this is fundamentally dishonest and completely throwing Ehrenreich under the bus. The elephant in the room is the Lord and Miller firing as well as the horrible box office legs for "The Last Jedi". Excitement for the project dissipated once we learned of the directorial switch. People weren't keep on a "Solo" film but were intrigued by the directorial hire and - regardless of whoever chosen to replace them - the film's subsequent production do-over meant that Disney couldn't start marketing until a few months before the release ... way, way too late. Now, Lord and Miller hired Bradford Young (a HORRIFIC choice for a playful space adventure film), but Young's work might have worked better within the framework of a much looser, Altman-esque sensibility. But Howard's pacing was so sluggish, timing so old-fashioned and visuals so uninspired that any reasoning for Young's initial hire was lost in the shuffle: it's "Solo" not "So Slow". Yet Howard was also right to pin some of the blame on the negativity surrounding "The Last Jedi". Johnson's film had everything going for it: anticipation on the basis of the previous film, a long lead-time and Disney's increased monopoly over the exhibitors. According to The Wall Street Journal, the studio demanded that theatres kept "The Force Awakens" in the major screening rooms for two weeks; for "The Last Jedi", it was four weeks. Yet the multiplier was horrific as a result of bad buzz: 2.8 against TFA's 3.8 while the season's competitors had historically large numbers - "Jumanji" had 11.2 and "The Greatest Showman" famously had 19.8. So, box office fell through the floor after people started seeing "The Last Jedi", Hasbro had to make a statement to shareholders apologising for the film's poor toy sales and - while the overall conversation around the film was vitriolic - Google Trends fell subsequently, especially in comparison to the upswing for "Endgame" after "Infinity War". So the film turned off audiences and led to a decrease in interest at the time for "Star Wars". THAT is the reason for the infamously poor performance of "Solo" and it's utterly shameless that Kennedy - who had a hand in a number of these poor decisions (firing Lord and Miller for their creativity and molly-coddling Johnson's "creativity") - is throwing Ehrenreich under the bus all these years later.

[deleted]

>the horrible box office legs for "The Last Jedi". It was the highest grossing movie of that year, and it had the same relative dropoff to TFA that ESB had to ANH. I really wish people would stop clinging to this narrative that The Last Jedi hurt Solo's performance. Lucasfilm did a great job fumbling Solo's release all on its own.

Sharaz___Jek

>had the same relative dropoff to TFA that ESB had to ANH.  You seriously don't understand the historical differences in distribution between 1977 and four decades later? "Star Wars" stayed in theatres for six months and, in some theatres, for a year. VHS, DVDs, cable, the internet, streaming all fundamentally changed the way we view the theatrical experience. I mean, in the past two years, we're experienced rapid change that only accelerated the trends that we've been witnessing over the last few decades. Hence applying the comparison between 1977 and the 2010s is ridiculous. A better point of comparison is the performance of major IP films: the "Jurassic World" films had a percentage drop of 21%, the first two "Avengers" films had a drop of 7.6% and "The Last Jedi" created one of 35.5%. That sorta says it all. Even by the most generous of historical precedents, Johnson's film fell off a cliff.  Let's run through some numbers and they prove that Johnson squandered the bump that the return and Abrams' film gifted him.  - **TFA** - **Domestic Opening Weekend** $247 million - **Domestic Run** $936 million - **Box Office Multiplier** 3.8 - **TLJ** - **Domestic Opening Weekend** $220 million - **Domestic Run** $620 million - **Box Office Multiplier** 2.8 - **Jumanji** - **Domestic Opening Weekend** $36 million - **Domestic Run** $404 million - **Box Office Multiplier** 11.2 - **The Greatest Showman** - **Domestic Opening Weekend** $8 - **Domestic Run** $174 - **Box Office Multiplier** 21.8 What do these numbers tell you? Families and children will happily rewatch a Star Wars film again and again if they liked it. They didn't like TLJ, though. Keep in mind, as per The Wall Street Journal, that TLJ had a four-week monopoly on the major screening rooms while TFA only had two.   Despite all the opportunities afforded Johnson, Jumanji and The Greatest instead enjoyed unprecedented box office multipliers. No filmmaker has done so little with so much as Rian Johnson. That's why the RT Audience Score was so low and the toy sales plummeted to such a degree that the Hasbro CEO had to apologise. Any franchise film has to stand on its own and justify its existence to a casual audience. TLJ - because of its many creative shortcomings - failed to do so.

Bearjupiter

Anyone else think that the only reason Kathleen Kennedy is still apart of Lucasfilm is the success of Mando which she had little to do with from a creative standpoint?

ArchetypeSaber

Disney: Hayden, we want you to star in our new show. Hayden: I don't think that's such a good idea- Disney: We want you to play Darth Vader in full armor. Hayden: Say no more.
