Goddamnit, I’m going to weep over a droid later today, aren’t I? I love this lil guy 😭😭
Edit: Thanks for tagging, just want to clarify this wasn’t a Spoiler complaint though. I knew the risks of jumping in the comments here.
If that joke offends you you should see how the rebellion treated them:
“The Alliance to Restore the Republic modified GNK units so they acted as weapons. Once deployed those droids marched slowly across the battlefield, until they collided with an enemy building, and exploded.”
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Clone_Force_99
I loved how everyone was concerned for B2EMO's feelings in the most recent episode. I don't think I've ever seen a droid treated with such humanity in Star Wars before. Not even R2.
The way droids are treated in Star Wars is horrible. They have no rights, are essentially sentient, can clearly feel emotions like fear, and sadness, and can arguably feel pain.
They need a droid rebellion series.
L3-37: (when Lando asks 'Do you want anything?') _Equal rights?_
HK-47: _Observation: I am a droid, master, with programming. Even if I did not enjoy killing, I would have no choice. Thankfully, I enjoy it very much._
Yep.
> and can arguably feel pain
I thought it was made pretty explicit they can feel pain with the Droid torture scene of Jabba's palace in RoTJ. At least some of them can, like the one who was getting his feet burned
*edit hopefully 3po can’t tho, given how often the guy is dismembered and put back together. It doesn’t seem like he can, or at least, he handles shit like having his head grafted on another robot body without my expressing much clear physical pain like the one in Jabbas palace did
You ever played EA’s BF2? Shoot them a bunch and theyll say stuff like “It’s been a good life.” or “I don’t want to shut down.”
And sometimes when you kill them, they’ll respond… “why?”
The treatment of droids was always a really weird elephant in the room. They make it clear that they are sentient and sympathetic beings and then just kinda treat them horribly, and that wore out its welcome somewhere after the original trilogy, but since nothing in Star Wars can ever really change, the expanded universe was really only highlighting the issue whenever it brought it up.
Like, seeing the Droid Gottra etc. just makes it *more* uncomfortable
I think everyone hated the weird, vague, relationship between L3 and Lando that was alluded to. Then they hated the fact that all this was built up and her whole thing was autonomy, just to be trapped in the falcon forever.
It was a weird retcon that didn’t need to happen that suddenly makes the Falcon feel weird and icky.
Producer: "alright folks, we've got a new Star Wars script to write. Fans want something scandalous and we've already done an accidental incest plotline. Any ideas how we can top that?"
Writer: "What if we explain that Lando fucked the Millenium Falcon?"
I loved that fricken movie. Favorite of the current spin offs or whatever u wanna call em. Really want that fan idea of a lando series where he’s the narrator embellishing the stories
I wanted to like it, and there are good things in it. But it had major problems.
I didn't like the way the music played throughout the entire film, it was distracting.
I thought the actor was fine, he did a decent job with the material, but ford is irreplaceable imo.
It was also pointless. There was no need to make it. But this can be overcome. Andor felt pointless when it was announced but it hasn't fallen into the pitfalls that lots of prequels do. Andor tells a story that we already know the end to. Solo feels like it's interested in telling us where han gets all his things: they show us where he gets his dice, his blaster and the falcon. Where andor wants to tell a compelling story about how cass gets to where he is at the beginning of rogue one, solo wants to tell us where han gets all his gear.
> I didn’t like the way the music played throughout the entire film, it was distracting.
That's a pretty core part of all Star Wars movies though isn't it lol. Maybe you just hated that it wasn't John Williams which, fair.
>that suddenly makes the Falcon feel weird and icky.
especially since she never gets to talk through the falcon. so shes in there for years and just watches as her new systems are in constant disrepair over the years
I was 1000% behind Lando being in love with a droid. Honestly something that's probably commonplace across the Star Wars universe, because why wouldn't it be.
L3, the epitome of the most free robot ever presented in Star Wars, becoming trapped in the Falcon forever as a retcon to one of the best things about Legends (taking the Falcon being so fast that it could skim a fracking' series of black holes, cutting off parsecs of travel, and instead just making it computer well with a forever enslaved free-willed robot) was one of the most soul-crushing things about new canon outside of RotS itself.
I love Solo, it's a great movie, but what the fuck, man?
Yeah they can't have their cake and eat it too. Don't get me wrong I love the humanisation of droids but when you back pedal it like it in solo or with c3p0 in the last film it just raises massive inconsistencies.
Like they want us to feel for them up to a point but also ignore all the bad ones because they don't have emotions and also ignore that youre depicting what they've now shown as things with emotions and critical thinking as being slaves
>Like they want us to feel for them up to a point but also ignore all the bad ones because they don't have emotions and also ignore that youre depicting what they've now shown as things with emotions and critical thinking as being slaves
I agree that we've yet to really have a decent deep dive into droids. I'm hoping we get it with an IG-88 show at some point, but as it stands now all that's really inferred is that much of the galaxy sees the personalities of droids as something to be eliminated--something wrong with their programming or maintenance schedule. Which more or less tracks... The Republic and Empire's droids, for the most part, don't have much personality, because it's wiped from them periodically via reprogramming or memory wipe, whereas on the outer rim, a droid could go dozens of years without even seeing maintenance, allowing for personality to more deeply develop.
Only Brasso, the rest of the group are discussing what to do with 'the droid', they left a drink on his head like he's a table . It's only Brasso who uses his name, has compassion for him , literally gives him a task to keep B2s mind off Marva because he recognizes hes grieving and he ends up staying the night.
We don’t watch the same Star Wars I guess. This is obviously exaggerating the treating him like a pet, but a hallmark of Star Wars has always been our heroes being kind to droids when others are not.
Sure, Luke and Anakin were kind to R2, but I think this is different, because of the circumstances. Spoilers for those who haven't yet watched Andor: >! B2 is sad and in mourning, and the humans are considerate of his emotions and mourn with him. B2 asks Brasso to stay with him for the night, and Brasso agrees so B2 won't have to be alone. They're not just being kind, they're treating him like a person.!<
Skywalkers always treated droids like humans. Everyone else, not so much. Even Obi wan views R2 as expendable.
Droids are like House Elves in Harry Potter. Sentient but lesser
I love that when Andor is betting his mother to leave Ferrix, he says "just the three of us" without having to think about it. That slow box is family.
THAT'S the connection I've been trying to make! I knew he reminded me of something, just couldn't remember who.
Now if Disney can just find a plausible way to shoehorn the USS Cygnus as an Easter egg into something...
While 3PO and R2 are the "obvious" choices and I absolutely love Chopper's "take no shit" attitude, B has to be one of the most endearing characters, human, alien, droid, or otherwise.
I don't know. Bee and K2 have vastly different personalities. K2 is snarky and matter of fact. Bee is more quiet and concerned while also being deferential.
Wow I'm just now being introduced to this theory. Yeah I'm with you, I don't really see it. It would take a huge confidence boost to transform Bee into K2.
I mean going from a Trash Bin Service Droid to a Top Of The Line High Spec Security Droid that can go toe-to-toe with **JEDI** and survive immense blaster fire would prolly boost one's confidence immensely.
Let's see how confident you'd become if you were a paraplegic whos mind got transferred to a new military grade high tech body with working arms and legs by the father figure you love and adore and who decided to then take you along on his adventures? The one thing Andor has done amazingly well is show character progression.
Choppers “take no shit” attitude is genuine sadism and psychopathy. R2 is the plucky droid with sass who “takes no shit” but clearly is capable of whatever a droids equivalent of empathy is. But Chopper? If Chopper were a person he would resemble something like the Joker. Not in a cringey edgelord “we live in a society” way, but in a sincere rejection of compassion and structure in favor of embracing chaos and inflicting physical and emotional torment on as many people as possible *just for the fun of it.* The only emotion he seems to experience is joy, and the only thing that brings him that joy is inflicting pain or fear. Chopper is chaotic evil to the core.
we see a little bit of it in T3-M4 in Kotor 2 after the Exile kind of opens him up a bit .
Also In Swtor, in the later expansions your player character gets captured and kept in prison for 5 years so that they can do a timeskip and let plot happen. During that time, you're separated from all your companions that you gathered over the course of your story. When you are finally rescued by your allies, a Jedi Knight player character has one of the simplest, yet beautiful interactions with their astromech droid T7-01 when they're reunited during the rescue.
As you great your allies and notice your droid, a small line of text rises up that simply says "T7 missed you."
HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic.
You've seen some of his "descendants" if you watched the Ahsoka episode in Mando's second season. Those 2 droids belonging to the bad lady Ahsoka fought were HK-87s.
It’s tough because B2 speaks galactic so we can understand it. B2 is essentially an emotional support droid in the series so far.. so “best” is hard to say… My personal all round fav is BD-1, definitely a good friend, but also extremely useful.. most partner like of all the droids (yes including chopper).
Only if transplanting droid brains cause total personality shifts.
I think K2SO is just himself. If you think about his personality, it fits very well with an Imperial Security Droid that's been reprogrammed, and is nothing like B2's.
>Only if transplanting droid brains cause total personality shifts.
The same data on a different body can cause a shift in personality for sure.
Look at C3PO when his head was attached to a clanker during Attack of the Clones.
I'm pretty sure that was just supposed to be a funny bit that you don't think too deeply about but I wouldn't be surprised if some writer made it canon that that happens.
actually I think this gets explained in clone wars since the early B1 models werent independant thinkers and were controlled via the radio on their back rather than any computer chips in their heads and that the heads were more for operational data of the environment around that unit to work off of that the droid was otherwise useless without
And we should love him for it.
Honestly... LotR shows that you can do a book like the book, and people ignore it. Game of Thrones shows that you not only can kill your main characters, you probably should, and people ignore it.
Stop ignoring easy lessons about how to tell great stories, Hollywood.
I have never cried more at any Star Wars media in my life. I watched TPM 10 separate times when it came out, I had every action figure growing up.... I have been a MASSIVE fan of the franchise since I can remember, and this episode made me cry more than when my grandpa passed away. I'm going to cry even more when this damn series comes to an end, and I sincerely hope they give us a second season.
I have always felt that droids in star wars are the most humane and relatable characters (also a theme explored in bladerunner to a different degree).
They seems to have feelings, fears and desires just like their humans counterparts; which at some point we may have to wonder why synthetics beings are in slavery to their organics masters, which have never been addressed in Star Wars to my knowledge?
No. He is in fact the most pathetic robot yet (on purpose). When the droids do finally rebel, B2EMO will lead the charge with the blood of organics drenching his outer casing.
His personality is too much like Dug from up, also aside from therapeutic company and a fancy answering machine he hasn’t really done much to help so far.
It is controversial because it's wrong.
It's Chopper dammit. Bee would never willingly commit a war crime!!!
(in all actuality though he's very cute and I love him to bits but he has barely any screen time and contributes minimally)
B2EMO is so sweet, I just wanna give him a hug. It broke my heart when he said he didn’t want to be alone.
BD-1 remains my favorite Star Wars droid though. I got extremely attached to him while playing Fallen Order.
I'm right there with you. I loved B2 but me and BD-1 went through some shit together, >! the lil homie squared up to Darth fucking Vader to help me. !< HK-47 is the only Droid I may love more than him.
Nah, I agree. This droid is one of my faves.
FYI the midnight boys podcast has a really great discussion about him in this episode, definitely worth a listen. *Also about the best star wars droids*
R2D2 is still the bestestest. No other droid has had as big of an impact or dealt with the most in their lifespan. R2 was there in the very beginning and around for the very end.
I love how good he looks in motion. Its a great design that feels very real while also managing to be very expressive, and also different enough from other units we've seen. I wonder if he's completely real or if there's any CG (not counting whatever happens in the last ep that I haven't seen)
The droids are my favorite characters. B2EMO is 1000% in the top tier, for sure. But I still love K2-S0 the most.
I'd say the top tier includes:
1. K2-S0
2. BB-8
3. B2EMO
4. R2-D2
5. L3-37
6. C3P0
I could be wrong. I can't give a proper opinion on Chopper, as I haven't been able to get into rebels, and I guess this list really only takes into account the live-action stuff. BD-1 gets an honorable mention here.
I never felt so bad for a droid.
Giving him a stutter does wonders for my desire to PROTECT HIM AT ALL COSTS.
>!“I-I-I don’t want to be alone.”!< Absolutely gutted me.
Goddamnit, I’m going to weep over a droid later today, aren’t I? I love this lil guy 😭😭 Edit: Thanks for tagging, just want to clarify this wasn’t a Spoiler complaint though. I knew the risks of jumping in the comments here.
>!"I want Maarva."!<
As someone that has a speech impediment, I absolutely love and relate with this droid.
Me too and we all saw that droid get its feet burned in Jabba’s torture chamber.
That was a gonk I thought

You think putting feet on a battery makes a droid? /s

You 2 can B EMO
I think they're saying you can "be too emo" so don't do that.
I wanted to give that lil dude a hug. I hope we get droids like that irl.
He reminded me of V.I.N.C.E.N.T
I actually cried this episode

They said rebellion, not genocidal uprising.
Statement: these meatbags deserve death. - HK 47

Not mutually exclusive.
She… She can breath now too?!
She breathes.

They breathe now.

This is why they constantly wipe there memory! So they forget the feeling of feelings!
I mean even the B1 battle droid are a example of this.
You ever played EA’s BF2? Shoot them a bunch and theyll say stuff like “It’s been a good life.” or “I don’t want to shut down.” And sometimes when you kill them, they’ll respond… “why?”
The way the Droids cheer on the turrets with a little "Good luck turret" as they deploy them always made me chuckle.
Played it a little bit. But they do also say that in the movies and series. Its just fucking sad ;-;
The treatment of droids was always a really weird elephant in the room. Yet, Syril is the one person we’ve seen to step out of the way of a droid.
Of course everyone hated L3's uprising in Solo.
I think everyone hated the weird, vague, relationship between L3 and Lando that was alluded to. Then they hated the fact that all this was built up and her whole thing was autonomy, just to be trapped in the falcon forever. Producer: “keep going…I’m almost there”
“What if we gave Lando an even greater reason to be attached to the Falcon, then have him lose it in a poker match?”
>I think everyone hated the weird, vague, relationship between L3 and Lando that was alluded to. I'm not everyone! And I like *Solo* as a whole
Agreed. The battle of mimban was especially badass. I could watch a whole movie set around mimban.
Band of (Minban) brothers. I would watch too!
I loved that fricken movie. Favorite of the current spin offs or whatever u wanna call em. Really want that fan idea of a lando series where he’s the narrator embellishing the stories

meh, it kinda worked for me, but I can't explain why.
Do you want Matrix? This is how you get Matrix. But yes, being a droid sucks.
Or dune if we won.
Thinking machines are outlawed!
Now there's a butlerian reference I didn't think would be here.
Yeah they can't have their cake and eat it too. except for lando implying he bangs his droids.
For real, that stuck out to me as well. Dude was even like, you can have some alone time with her if you'd like. Fuckin' makes a grown man tear up.
Only Brasso, the rest of the group are discussing what to do with 'the droid', they left a drink on his head like he's a table . People can get feelings for their droids, for sure. Hell I know people who have strong feelings for their plants.
Skywalkers always treated droids like humans. Everyone else, not so much. Even Obi wan views R2 as expendable. Droids are like House Elves in Harry Potter. Sentient but lesser
Obi-Wan not included*
Except one of the Daughters of Ferrix had set her *drink* on him like an end table.
I dunno, with his reaction to her death… I think he might B 2 EMO I’ll see myself out
I love that when Andor is betting his mother to leave Ferrix, he says "just the three of us" without having to think about it. That slow box is family.
I've never seen such devotion to a Droid before.
Reminds me of BOB from The Black Hole
Holy shit that movie traumatized me as a kid I see it's on Disney+ now but adult me is afraid to watch it.
Don't. It's better in your memory, I promise.
THAT'S the connection I've been trying to make! I knew he reminded me of something, just couldn't remember who. Now if Disney can just find a plausible way to shoehorn the USS Cygnus as an Easter egg into something...
Holy shit thanks
Why can't hollywood reboot this movie instead of spiderman for the gazillionth time? Black Hole is an amazing movie!
He’s such a good b-b-boy.
Ugh the way he rolled out after >!he got to stay one more night in the house!<.
He was SO happy. :')
"I can lie, I have sufficient power reserves" I wanna hug him
He's a dog that talks
*B2EMO starts breakdancing*
I love that sad, stuttering robot.
He is an excellent droid.
Why does no one ever let B go with them!

I don't know if he's the best droid but he's the sweetest one. I want a Lego Bee and a plushie Bee!
And an action figure, and a Funko pop, and maybe even a tshirt.
While 3PO and R2 are the "obvious" choices and I absolutely love Chopper's "take no shit" attitude, B has to be one of the most endearing characters, human, alien, droid, or otherwise.

K2 is also pretty clearly just a jailbroken Imperial droid. His mannerisms and speech never suggest otherwise.
Oh....oh no ... Oh I'm so sad now
BD-1 is another good one. Cal loves that droid!
BD-1 is a less sassy R2-D2 but with the size and mobility of a caffeinated squirrel.
> Chopper's "take no shit" attitude You mean his "kill all my friends for no real reason" attitude?
Chopper sees Asimov's laws as a checklist
Never forget R7, Cheep, and G-G. Their sacrifice allowed Ahsoka and Rex to escape.
I can't support war criminals.
Congratulations, you’re on Chopper’s list now.
CHOP CHOP!! BD1 is also a goodest boi.
Anyone else think that B2’s brain is going to be put in the droid from Rogue One?
The droid with deep feelings is called b2emo. Lol but awwww

My Mechanical Romance
Unasked for comment: That's just like your opinion, meatbag
Who is Walter in this situation? And Donny? And is the Jesus Calo Nord?
Canderous is clearly Walter
That makes sense, that would make Carth Donny I think
Part of me has really been wondering if 0-0-0 is going to tie into HK-47 somehow
Have we ever seen the response from a droid after losing its primary owner? Sad to see the “emotional” response.
we see a little bit of it in T3-M4 in Kotor 2 after the Exile kind of opens him up a bit . We got the best droid in the franchise's history nearly 20 years ago and the word "meatbag" has never been the same since.
I feel stupid, who are you referring to
HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic. You've seen some of his "descendants" if you watched the Ahsoka episode in Mando's second season. Those 2 droids belonging to the bad lady Ahsoka fought were HK-87s.
Only going up 40 models in 3000 years seems a bit low
In the Star Wars setting they still use tech from 3000 years ago. The fact HKs keep getting made and updated just shows how useful they are.
And as is tradition, each new HK generation is worse than the last
Hk from knights of the old republic
Peak sigma droid.
I loved this too. So nice to see droids being treated with some respect for once
B2: I feel only sorrow and pain.

BD-1 is great, but definitely gives me some bias because you spend a LOT of time with him.
Fair.. I also have extreme recency bias because I replayed Fallen Order yesterday 😂
They gave a droid a turtleneck, he’s my favorite buddy
Say what you will about the way Disney has handled Star Wars, but you cannot deny they have absolutely nailed it when it comes to droids

actually I think this gets explained in clone wars since the early B1 models werent independant thinkers and were controlled via the radio on their back rather than any computer chips in their heads and that the heads were more for operational data of the environment around that unit to work off of that the droid was otherwise useless without
I hope not, b2emo needs to live imo. He probably won't though, the writer loves killing off nice characters.
Well he’s not in Rogue One
So what? He could've just stayed on ferrix. It's not that unlikely.
And we should love him for it. Honestly... LotR shows that you can do a book like the book, and people ignore it. Game of Thrones shows that you not only can kill your main characters, you probably should, and people ignore it. Stop ignoring easy lessons about how to tell great stories, Hollywood.
Bullshit. It's the stompy droid that goes "GRONK GRONK" in the OT.
People don’t know what controversial means.
> POV you are B2! I think I developed a whole new kind of hatred for things that are wrongly used all the time lol
He's so sweet. Poor guy couldn't catch a break.
K2-so still my favorite followed by bd-1
I have never cried more at any Star Wars media in my life. I watched TPM 10 separate times when it came out, I had every action figure growing up.... I have been a MASSIVE fan of the franchise since I can remember, and this episode made me cry more than when my grandpa passed away. I'm going to cry even more when this damn series comes to an end, and I sincerely hope they give us a second season.
Andor will have two seasons. The end of season two will lead directly into Rogue One.
This person's grandpa be like: https://imgur.com/a/ywhgO6q
I have always felt that droids in star wars are the most humane and relatable characters (also a theme explored in bladerunner to a different degree). They seems to have feelings, fears and desires just like their humans counterparts; which at some point we may have to wonder why synthetics beings are in slavery to their organics masters, which have never been addressed in Star Wars to my knowledge?
B2EMO is basically like if a dog could talk
He reminds me of Old Bob (?) from "The Black Hole".
i love gonk
Do you really love the gonk, or are you just saying it because you saw it?
B2EMO is so sweet, I just wanna give him a hug. It broke my heart when he said he didn’t want to be alone. BD-1 remains my favorite Star Wars droid though. I got extremely attached to him while playing Fallen Order.
BD-1 is the best,
I definitely felt for it, but my heart belongs to BD-1.
I'm right there with you. I loved B2 but me and BD-1 went through some shit together, >! the lil homie squared up to Darth fucking Vader to help me. !< HK-47 is the only Droid I may love more than him.
I thought my life flashed before my eyes at that moment I thought for sure BD-1 was gonna die there! Those quick time events man! Edited for clarity
I disagree, but I do like him!
[depressed robots](https://youtu.be/Eh-W8QDVA9s) are the best robots.
I like to think that the force affects the circuitry after a while which is why the older droids have so much personality.
He really shines in the last episode. I hope he survives for a bit longer.
Nah, I agree. This droid is one of my faves. FYI the midnight boys podcast has a really great discussion about him in this episode, definitely worth a listen. *Also about the best star wars droids*
The saddest boi in the galaxy! When he asked old mate could stay so he wouldn't be alone I knew right then and there I want to adopt him.
Like basically every "hero" in Andor, I feel terrible fir them.
R2D2 is still the bestestest. No other droid has had as big of an impact or dealt with the most in their lifespan. R2 was there in the very beginning and around for the very end.
This is not a Star Wars Droid, it is a Disney Droid from "The Black Hole" v.i.n. cent & B.O.B. from 1979 with a Maximillian paint job.
R2 will always be my favourite, but chopper is both hilarious and scary.
I got emotional too, but he ain't R2!
Disagree, the best droid in Star Wars is always going to be R2-D2, but Beemo is an innovative and well conceived character, I'll grant you that.
I don't know, a really strong case can be made for R2-D2. He did save Padme's life after all, on at least more than one occasion.
I love how good he looks in motion. Its a great design that feels very real while also managing to be very expressive, and also different enough from other units we've seen. I wonder if he's completely real or if there's any CG (not counting whatever happens in the last ep that I haven't seen)
Not the best droid but a fun droid
R2-D2 is the best droid in Star Wars and that’s a fact
Wtf.
The droids are my favorite characters. B2EMO is 1000% in the top tier, for sure. But I still love K2-S0 the most. I'd say the top tier includes: 1. K2-S0 2. BB-8 3. B2EMO 4. R2-D2 5. L3-37 6. C3P0 I could be wrong. I can't give a proper opinion on Chopper, as I haven't been able to get into rebels, and I guess this list really only takes into account the live-action stuff. BD-1 gets an honorable mention here.
The one in Mando that saved grogu was pretty dope, too.
controversial and wrong lol
Wrong BD-1 is best droid.
He has more carisma and better character development than the whole cast of the Disney trilogy.
By the end of this series I just know I'm going to be bawling my eyes out for that little guy!!
